Getting Better Results With Muscle Confusion Through Varied Workouts Click Here for a FREE 15 min Zoom Consultation With Brad: In the podcast episode, Brad Williams from Over 40 Fitness Hacks delves into the concept of muscle confusion and the necessity of constantly challenging the body for better fitness results. He addresses the common issue of stagnant progress in workouts and explains that when individuals repetitively perform the same exercises, their bodies become efficient, resulting in burning fewer calories over time. Brad emphasizes the importance of breaking habits, particularly for the over 40 crowd, as sticking to the same routine leads to diminished effectiveness. He describes how the body adapts to familiar exercises, utilizing fewer muscle fibers to complete them, ultimately expending less energy and burning fewer calories despite potential strength gains. To counter this plateau, Brad advocates for "shocking the body" by introducing variation into workouts. This involves changing exercises, angles, muscle groups, and even incorporating different fitness modalities like yoga, Pilates, hiking, or boxing. He highlights that this variety keeps the body guessing, preventing it from becoming too efficient and ensuring a higher calorie burn. Beyond workouts, Brad underscores the significance of diverse stressors on the body, including unconventional methods like cold immersion, saunas, red light therapy, and breathing techniques. These stressors prompt the body to adapt but caution that the body's efficiency will plateau eventually. He concludes by stressing the importance of maintaining a varied routine to avoid fitness plateaus, recommending that individuals find activities they enjoy while staying committed to dieting goals. Brad shares a success story about a client who saw progress by diversifying his exercise routine and concludes by encouraging listeners to break out of workout ruts and embrace variety for optimal fitness results and an improved quality of life. There are three main reasons why people will change up their program: 1) they have plateaued, 2) they aren't seeing results fast enough, or 3) they have no idea how to program (4th reason would be simply to change up the fun). In these situations, we want to change up our program because we are just impatient with the process, and believe me, I use to change up my programs a lot too. In reality, you do not have to change up your workouts, simply change how you perform the workouts, higher your intensity, and find new ways to attack that muscle, for example: drop sets, giant sets, burn outs, progressive overload, ect. You don't need to change your workouts all the time because the body needs time to adapt and how else will you gage your progress if you're always changing it.  Key Takeaways: The main reason why people change up their programs that never work The reason why you should not change your program What programming is and why you must be patient with the process  If you have any questions you want answered or wanting to talk to me directly, head over to: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/ask Check out all our partnerships: https://www.trainhardlivestrong.com/Partnerships Flex Pro Meals: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ : Code/ TrainHard to save 20% OFF Host: https://www.instagram.com/matthew_fitness_trainer/ Athletic Beings Training & Apparel: www.athleticbeings.com / www.athleticbeingstraining.com Podcast Website: www.trainhardlivestrong.com/podcast LiquidIV: Liquidiv.com / Code: TrainHard / Save 25% off your entire purchase FNX Fit: https://fnx.grsm.io/TrainHard / Code:Trainhard / Save 15% off your entire purchase Flex Pro Meals / 20% off your 1st order / Code: TrainHard: https://www.flexpromeals.com/ YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/MatthewFitnessTrainer Train with Coach Matt Anywhere: www.EliteHIITPerformance.com

Mike Vecchione is another fantastic comic that was great to me in my early days. He did such a nice thing for me 15 years ago, I still think about it to this day, and I remind him of that kind deed. We both worked The Laff House early in our careers and we both share some stories from there. Mike tells his most recent bombing story and we talk about his move from Philly to New York City, and the grind that comes along with moving to the comedy Mecca of the world. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora.Mike Vecchione is an Italian-American comedian and actor whose stand-up has been described as “rapid-fire delivery, swiftly moving from joke to joke and hitting his punch lines like a boxer working a speed bag.” Mike has made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show, Comedy Central, Netflix, SiriusXM and more. Based in New York City, Mike headlines all across America as well as internationally. In 2020, Mike will appear on the big screen alongside Pete Davidson in the Judd Apatow-directed movie The King of Staten Island. Mike will also appear on Netflix's The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show.In 2019, Mike appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for the third time and had numerous appearances on Comedy Central's This Week At The Comedy Cellar. In 2018, Mike appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon for a second time, did Montreal's Just For Laughs for a third time, and released his second comedy album, The Worst Kind of Thoughtful which was named comedy album of the year by Vulture and SiriusXM.In 2017, Mike appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and in two episodes of TruTV's Comedy Knockout. In 2015, Mike appeared on Conan on TBS and Inside Amy Schumer. In 2014, Mike appeared on Comedy Underground with Dave Attell on Comedy Central, was again a semi-finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing and Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen. He also released his first comedy album, Muscle Confusion. In 2010, Mike won the People's Choice Award for the New York Comedy Festival, was a semi-finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing, and was selected to perform at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival (New Faces). Later that year, Mike went on to perform on the Tonight Show starring Jay Leno and shot his own Half Hour Special for Comedy Central. At the end of 2003, Mike moved to New York City. He has appeared on Comedy Centrals Live at Gotham, Comedy Centrals Fresh Face Debates, and Russell Simmons Presents: Stand Up at the El Rey Theatre. Mike also had a guest appearance on the IFC hit show Z Rock.Mike Vecchione was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and graduated High School in Boca Raton, Florida. In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about how often to change exercise routine. Training in general or doing some type of workout decreases the result if you are doing the same thing because your body will adapt to it and then it stops adapting. There is a thing called muscle confusion and that is basically the idea of changing your workouts to keep your body in constant confusion. But if you also change your routine too frequently and you don't let your body fully adapt, your gains will also be limited because you are not reaching the maximum potential of that workout. Recommendation: • Do the same workout for 3 to 4 weeks (example: 3 times a week with a 3 different workouts) until your body actually adapts and gets used to it, then change it. NEW SERIES! I will break down 2-4 topics each week of things I believed when I was 16-20 years old and how dumb I was now that I look back at it. This will go on until I finish every bullet point I have wrote down in my notes so enjoy and let me know how this has helped you! 6:48:00-23:45:00- Body part splits (full body, push pull legs etc were useless) What body part splits are Monday = chest/back Tuesday= legs Wednesday= Shoulders/Triceps/Biceps Thursday= Chest/Back Friday= Legs Saturday= Shoulders/Triceps/Biceps Why this may work for a short period of time and why it may not Why I believe full body part splits are more beneficial More focus on compound movements Hard hitting more focus on pushing heavier weight More volume and frequency/sets hit on each muscle with a full body split Better recovery w/ full body 3 sets, 4 sets x 3 21 4 sets back x 3 12 sets 4 sets shoulders x 3 15 sets 3 sets 1 arm press x 3 5 sets of core x 3 15 sets More flexibility with full body If you miss a body part split workout you need to wait a whole week to hit that muscle. Full body you can do a M,W,F split and not feel stressed to workout 24:00:00- 30:20:00- Training volume (sets per body part/ reps) Due to my thinking of body part splits I would do 12-15 sets or MORE per body part per workout. Which would leave me with about 30-35 plus sets per body per week. And based on progressive overload to gain muscle I would have had to do 45+ etc sets and continue to build more and more sets per body part to see growth and strength increase to the point I would have to be doing 120 sets per muscle per week at this point Realistically and proven by science , TEAM 3DMJ and Brad Schonefeld has shown their followers many studies citing that 6-10 sets per week per muscle group is more than enough to see growth By going to full body I hit 4-6 sets one workout 2-4 the next 2-3 the next puts me at 11 sets per body per week leaving me room for growth, recovery, etc. What is training volume, and why it is so important 30:30:00- 36:41:00- Muscle confusion, needing to change your workouts every workout! This was one I really stood behind during my college days No joke I'd be in the gym 4-5 x a week and thought every work out every week needed to be different than what I did last week or my body would get used to what was doing and not growing so it was always trying to confuse the muscles and it was legitimately spinning on a hamster wheel again and again seeing no strength gains or growth for 3-years DON'T FORGET!!! There’s a couple things we should know about our muscles when it comes to muscle memory, recovery and seeing results. Muscle memory is when our muscles conform to over and over repetition. If we do enough reps of something or do something enough times our body will do it without thinking about it.    When it comes to muscle confusion we want to do keep our body guessing and avoiding this particular muscle memory so we can continue to see results.    To avoid plateau's which means we aren’t seeing results anymore we need to continue to change up workouts, try new things, new exercises and movements. We can also increase reps and decrease weight, or reduce reps and increase weight.   There’s many things we can do to create muscle confusion and changing up workouts by doing just that. Keeping changing it up so you can continue to see results!

In this episode, Nikki chats with certified personal trainer and host of the Cut the S#iT Get Fit Podcast Rafal Matuszewski about how to take a results focused approach to fitness and nutrition that goes beyond the fads. They discuss: - Marketing versus application and why buzz words like muscle confusion often don't mean anything - The benefits of focusing on consistency instead of novelty - How following health and fitness trends isn't always a bad thing, but individualizing the process will often get you a better result.  About Rafal Matuszewski: Movement is medicine. I firmly believe that many people who deal with pain can improve their quality of life by simply moving. There are fundamental patterns as humans we should be able to perform. But, in today’s world, we live in, we are set up for failure. Being able to squat, crawl, climb, lunge, push, pull, and of course lifting things off the floor are all movement qualities we used to possess, but quickly lose as we age and become inactive. I coach patients and clients from the ground up. Build the fundamentals first, then challenge the system. The last nine years of my career I’ve seen clients from all walks of life. Weight loss, strength, performance, rehabilitation, you name it. All have different goals and outcomes, but all follow the same training principles for building foundational movement patterns. As a trainer obsessed with helping others who suffer from painful movement, I bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance. My ultimate goal is to have you moving and feeling better, faster so you can enjoy life and get back to activity.
