Standing balancing posture in hatha yoga

This video was filmed at the Sunrise Circle Amphitheater near Bolder, Colorado in 2021. Hey, it's Cha Wilde, and we are on top of a mountain today! Let's soak in this beautiful connection between the earth beneath us and the sky above while we move through today's practice. Introduction and Grounding We're sitting here, feeling the stability of the mountain, grounding into the earth, and opening up to the heavens above. Let's start by sitting in a meditation seat, feeling our roots extending deep into the ground, finding that connection between stability and freedom. 00:00:52 - Exploring the Chakras We're going to journey through the chakras today, starting at the root and moving all the way up. As we move, embody the elements—feel the earth in your root, the water flowing in your sacral, the fire lighting up your solar plexus, and the air moving through your heart. Let the energy flow freely through each pose, each breath. 00:16:29 - Standing Poses and Balance Now, into standing poses: Mountain Pose, Tree Pose. Feel the strength in your core, the steadiness in your feet, but also allow for the playfulness of balance. Wobbling is okay! The balance isn't static—it's about constantly finding that center again. 00:24:25 - Floor Poses and Backbends We'll move into floor poses now—Downward Dog, Forward Folds, and backbends. As we stretch, strengthen, and open the body, keep connecting with your breath and engaging your core. Embrace the intensity, feel the fire in your practice, and let go where you need to. 00:28:55 - Relaxation and Closing We're wrapping up with Shavasana, lying still and taking in the sounds of nature around us. Feel the peace of being here, on top of this mountain. Reflect on how regular yoga leaves you feeling—loose, light, stretchy, present, and deeply relaxed. Stay here as long as you need, soaking in that mountain energy. Namaste! ------------------------ ✨ Welcome to Cha Wilde's YouTube channel dedicated to healing. Tree Pose is probably the asana most loved by kids yoga...it's relatable, a challenge, and a chance to be silly when trying to balance. in grown up yoga, Tree Pose looks real different...it's often the pose we use to judge our balance talent (or perceived lack there of). there's actually a lot more to it...and it gets more fun the nerdier you get. dig in, geek out, have fun...and probably be sore the next day.
In this bonus episode, Melanie leads a Slow Flow vinyasa class, with Tree Pose as the peak pose, set to a soundtrack with all your favorite alternative and grunge Gen-X music. The actual class length is 56 minutes. Props are optional, but it is recommended to have one or two blocks, a strap, and a blanket if you'd like some extra support. Yoga teacher Jenni Rawlings and Exercise Science professor Travis Pollen discuss a selection of yoga alignment cues that don't make sense! These cues all have one thing in common: they are each used inconsistently across similar (or the same) positions. By examining these carefully-chosen examples, we gain insight into whether or not these cues are actually important. And we improve our ability to think critically about the information we're taught!Yoga alignment rules covered in this episode include:Stack the shoulder over the wrist in plank poseStack the shoulder over the wrist in side plank poseDon't let the feet turn out in wheel poseDon't jump back to straight-arm plank pose; instead, jump into bent-elbow chaturangaDon't transition from closed-to-open hip poses or vice versaDon't place your foot on your inner knee in tree poseGround your inner hands down in down dogInternally rotate your hips in forward foldsCatch the outer ankle in bow poseEnjoy this engaging and eye-opening discussion for yoga, movement, and fitness geeks!Resources mentioned in this episode:Jenni's email newsletterStrength for Yoga Remote Group Training – ongoing, interactive monthly strength program for yogis designed by Jenni & TravisOnline yoga class library & yoga anatomy workshops with JenniStrength for Yoga email newsletterSara Paige, who inspired the idea for this episode! website / InstagramYouTube video: Should We Shift Forward Onto Our Toes in Chaturanga?YouTube video: Is Turning Your Feet Out in Wheel Bad?YouTube video: Is Jumping Back to Plank Bad for Our Shoulders?Blog post: No Foot on the Knee in Tree Pose? This beginner level yoga sequence is a vinyasa flow which is meant to link your movement with your breath. We will gently warm up with sun salutation A, and then hit a peak pose... TREE POSE. One of my faves. Tree pose is so more more than standing on one foot. It's a balancing pose which is also a hip opener. Love love love. Enjoy a playlist created for you, as well as this gentle vinyasa sequence. This sequence was created by Kristen - RYT and Founder of Zen Lab. This sequence is great for any time of the day - before work, during lunch, after work, if you need a quick break. It has the elements of a vinyasa flow to help achieve a meditative state so that you can clear you mind and move on with your day feeling focused and energized. Have you ever heard a yoga teacher give a warning and you’re not sure of the reason behind it? Maybe it’s something like, “Don’t put your foot on your knee” when you’re doing Tree Pose. We’re going to talk about things like that today not from the perspective of what’s right and what’s wrong but more from the perspective of how can you analyze statements like these to better determine how to apply them to your body (or your teaching).

Whenever I level up, I feel a little off balance, at least for a short time. This happens whether I am choosing to level up, of if the universe knows I am ready for the next level. It’s sort of like riding a bicycle for the first few times. I remember being scared to go fast, but until I gained confidence in speed, I just wobbled and fell over. Deliberate movement and confidence helped me find balance.I do yoga sometimes as a form of exercise and there are some poses (like Tree Pose) that require balance. But this balance is not found in going really fast, it’s found in being aligned. My breathing, my spine, my consciousness, my focus all come into play. With yoga, balance is all about alignment and focus. Our body gives us clues when we are out of alignment. An emotion felt in the gut or tension in the shoulders, or irritability caused by insomnia. But what if we look even deeper? What caused the insomnia? What caused the emotion or tension? To find balance at the core, our core beliefs must be in alignment with the highest truth. We are surrounded by natural flow. Seasons, sunrise, sunset, law of the harvest, ebb and flow. What happens when we resist the natural flow of things? Even an off-hand comment like: “I am not looking forward to winter” can throw us out of the natural flow of nature. We know that winter will follow fall. Yet for some reason we try to fight against it. And then we blame winter for our misery. What would our experience of winter be like if we said instead: “I love fall and I anticipate that winter will be equally as enjoyable” What is one area of your life where you have seen the signs, but either ignored or rebelled against them? Even blamed its inevitability on your unhappiness?Patterns can easily be interrupted by simply welcoming, embracing the inevitable and finding our own balance within it. It is possible! And life is so much easier when we do.Today, I Give Myself Permission to Flow With My DayI am at choiceI have the capacity to flow with whatever comesI have many things that I can do to right now to find balanceI am naturally balancedI am clear and aware of my cluesI am hopeful in the season of changeI welcome each seasonI feel bright hope in my inspired shortcutsI am joyful in giving my time to the most important prioritiesClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. Thanks for tuning into Mike’s Yoga Podcast. Today, we’re going to look at the Tree Pose (aka Vrksasana). We’re going to explore the stability of the standing leg by focusing attention towards the heel of the standing foot. We’re also going to do Prasarita Paddotanasana - the wide-legged forward extension. You might need some blocks for underneath the hands if you can’t reach the floor: the aim is to keep your legs and your back straight in this pose. You should be in good health - that doesn’t mean that you need to be flexible: that comes with time. Consult your doctor before you practice if you have any health concerns. Lauren and Sami chat about how they can't find spaghetti squash in Spain, how the desire to control shows up in their lives, and how finding balance in tree pose is an exercise in finding then releasing control.
This is a 60-minute Classic Flow. The focus of this class is symmetry – front to back, side to side, to the front of the mat and to the back, clockwise and counter-clockwise. We explore all sides of the mat, and with them, all sides of the body. A fair share of hip opening and posterior chain activation comes into play as we hold, flow, and balance on the hands and on the feet. This class explores symmetry of movement, and you are invited to be a passenger on this yoga adventure. Let me drive, and just focus on the posture, the movement at hand. Worry not, you will be even and whole by the end. This is an exercise in trust and in restraint. The pace of this class is moderate, but it will make you work. Classic Sun Salutations A and B get a make-over, and not one Vinyasa transition (high-to-mid plank, up-dog, down-dog) makes an appearance. If you ever find yourself thinking that yoga classes have a formula, this may make you think otherwise. Flying Frog is one of our peak poses, and so is Tree Pose. An all-around core-activating segment invites every side of your torso to the party. You will feel well-worked. How can you not, when you have held a forearm plank? If you get easily bored, this class is for you. If you love routine, this class is also for you. You will feel at home while also discovering something new about your practice. Enjoy!

For this year's summer series, Jason and I are focusing on "Building a Sustainable Yoga Practice." Over the past year we've talked about injuries, fear of injuries, predatory teachers and we thought -- LET'S FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE FOR PETE'S SAKE. Let's empower ourselves to create a yoga practice that serves our needs. For the first episode, Jason and I talk about which poses are taught as beginner or "easy" poses and are actually torturous for us to execute. And the inverse of that -- which poses are thought to be advanced, but have always been pretty accessible to us because of body type. My hope is that this talk will help unravel that sense of competition (either with others or just with ourselves) that we all feel from time to time on the yoga mat. The truth is that certain poses that are easier and more difficult simply because of the body you're born with. That means that those awe-inspiring poses you see on Instagram may not be a reflection of skills and years of study, but rather just something that that person is able to do naturally.
