Luke 20:1-2 - Passover Week Confrontations

Pastor Mike Impact Ministries

Play Episode Listen Later May 28, 2025 5:27

Aswe come to this chapter, we need to remember several things. It's Passoverweek. Jesus has finished almost three and a half years of ministry, healing thesick, raising the dead, giving sight to the blind, feeding the hungry, preaching to the multitudes, teaching His disciples, confronting the Pharisees, scribes, and hypocrites. All this has taken place now for three and a halfyears.  Jesus has publiclyrevealed Himself as the Messiah. He's come into Jerusalem on Sunday of Passoverweek. He is the Lamb of God who has come to take away the sin of the world. Thecrowd, the multitudes, believed and trusted that He was the Messiah to deliverthem from the Romans. When the Pharisees asked Jesus to rebuke them, Jesussaid, "Even these stones would cry out if they didn't recognize who Iwas." He had publicly revealed Himself. Yet, there was a group whorejected Him, and they were the spiritual and political leaders of the Jewish nation. On Sunday, Jesus ridesinto Jerusalem. On Monday, Jesus cleanses the temple. Now on Tuesday, Jesus isconfronted by the scribes, the high priest, the lawyers, (that's who thescribes are), and the elders. Three groups of people, representing thereligious and political leaders of the day for the Jews, confront Jesus. Verse 1, “Now ithappened on one of those days”. We believe the day was Tuesday specificallyin this passage, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel.Jesus has come back on Tuesday of Passover week. He is teaching and preaching. He's loving the people, teaching them the gospel. “The kingdom of heaven is athand; the King is here”. He is telling them wonderful things about who God is,who the Savior is, and how salvation and peace can come through trust andbelieving in Him.  He is preaching thegospel about Himself. Isn't that amazing? Because the Gospel is all aboutJesus. So, Jesus is preachingand teaching the Gospel, and that's when the chief priests, the scribes, andthe elders confronted Him. These people are incensed. The fact that Jesus ispreaching and teaching and the crowd has received Him, brings them to the pointthat they have to do something about Him. It says “they confronted Him”,means they came upon Him suddenly. They hope to catch Jesus with a questionthat will humiliate Him, and expose Hm to be against the leadership of theRomans politically. Then He could be crucified, stoned, or killed.  They'd already tried tostone Him on several occasions. Now they're going to use the tactic of getting Himto break one of the laws of the land so that the Romans will put Him to death.Of course, that fulfills the Old Testament scripture about how Jesus would die,not by stoning but by crucifixion. Read Psalms 22, and Isaiah 53. Theyconfronted Him and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authorityare you doing these things, or who is he who gave you this authority?" The priests had theirauthority from the law of Moses; they got their authority because the Leviticaltribe had been set apart to be the priests of the people, and the high priestcame from that tribe also. The scribes, these were the lawyers who had beentaught by the rabbis. They understood the law, they interpreted the law. So,the lawyers had their authority from the rabbis. The elders, these were theleaders of the different clans, the different tribes. They'd been chosen fortheir wisdom, leadership, and ability to lead. Probably on Monday night, thesethree groups of leaders have gotten together determined how they would confrontJesus on Tuesday. But Jesus is ready forthem. When they ask, "Where did you get your authority?" they'resaying, "We have authority, but who are you? Where does your authoritycome from?"  We can't wait to talkabout the answer the gave them and how He turned the table on them over thenext few days.

You can ask a lot of people if they have heard of Jesus? But what is vital is who they personally know Jesus as to them! It's one thing to call Jesus: “Healer, Helper & Holder” but oh how it changes when you put “MY” before it!*Text Matthew 1:18-21 (KJV) .Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus : for he shall save his people from their sins.#1 Healer*Text Matthew 1:21 (KJV)  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus : for he shall save his people from their sins.Note “he (Jesus ) shall save his people from their sins” #4982 (sode'-zo)to save, that is, deliver or protect (literally or figuratively): - heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be made whole.Q. Selah. 5 I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. You know how it is: something is bothering you, worries, anger, insecurity, fears. Your whole mind is so absorbed that everything revolves around it. It seems as if there is nothing else and as if this thing determines your whole life. A vicious circle spins faster and faster and a gravitational force of negativity takes effect so that you are totally absorbed to the point of being paralysed and can hardly form another clear thought. A prison. How do you break out? With virtually the same tools. Our thinking and our will allow us to occupy our thoughts with what we allow and want. There is always something positive and hopeful in everything negative. Be it just standing in front of the mirror and smiling at yourself or saying a good word to yourself. That breaks these chains of negativity. If you need support: Read Psalms in the Bible - until you find THE words that have the necessary explosive power. And then take a deep breath of new freedom. I wish you an extraordinary day!

Email me your thoughts, comments or questions at caniberealpodcast@gmail.com ○ Read: Romans 1:16-32 ○ Lesson 1: "the righteous will live by faith." § Righteous can be defined as: acting in accord with divine or moral law; free from guilt or sin § Righteousness means right relations between man and God ○ In verses 18-32, Paul lays out how the wicked live, and explains that God's wrath has been revealed against sinful humanity § God has made what may be known about Himself, plain to us □ Verse 20…"For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities- his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." ® God has revealed himself not only in history but also in the beauty and order we experience in the His created world. ® Read Psalms 19:1-6 ® Read Acts 14: 15-17 □ Verse 21…"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile (completely ineffective) and their foolish hearts were darkened." § Part of God's wrath involves abandoning individuals to the consequences of their wickedness □ It says 3 times in verses 24-32 that "God gave them over…" . God won't take your free will away ○ Read Habakkuk 4:2 (NLT) § ""Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God."" ○ Read Zephaniah 2:3 (NLT) § "Seek the LORD, all who are humble, and follow his commands. Seek to do what is right and to live humbly. Perhaps even yet the LORD will protect you- protect you from his anger on that day of destruction." ○ Read Galatians 3:11 (NLT) § "So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."" ○ Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV) § "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." ○ Remember the lesson: the righteous will live by faith. When judgement day comes, those who believe will stand before God clothed in the righteousness of Jesus ○ Read Isaiah 61:10 § "I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels." ○ And those who are godless are under God's wrath. Do not be misled, thinking that being a "good person" or doing "good things" is enough ○ Read Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind." --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rachel398/message

Email me your thoughts, comments or questions at caniberealpodcast@gmail.com • So the word for 2024 that I believe God gave me is: "I the Lord will make you succeed." ○ Brief Background ○ This took place after the period of the captivities of the Assyrians, the Babylonians, and the Medo-Persians. The destruction and burning of Jerusalem and Solomon's Temple by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC was a catastrophe, but the temple's destruction and its restoration 70 years later was prophesied by Jeremiah. ○ The events recorded in the Book of Ezra takes place approximately 14 years before the events recorded in Nehemiah. (Ezra was about rebuilding the Temple, while Nehemiah is about rebuilding the wall around the city of Jerusalem) ○ Side note: the events recorded in the Book of Esther take place during the period of time that the Book of Ezra covers. ○ Nehemiah, the author of this book, had a job in the king's court as the cupbearer. Nehemiah had the trusted position of serving wine and of making sure it was not poisoned by tasting it first himself. This position allowed Nehemiah to be present at top-level conferences and privy to state secrets as well as the personal life of the king. Nehemiah had the king's ear. ○ Read Nehemiah 1 & 2 (especially Nehemiah 2:20) ○ "I the Lord will make you succeed." § You will succeed because God said so! □ But with that, you need God to succeed! Don't make the mistake thinking that you can do it by yourself or by our own strength or willpower. □ Read Proverbs 3:5-6 ® Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. § However, what God has promised to make you successful in are the things that He has placed in your heart to do! □ Read Psalms 37:4 ® Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. ◊ Remember, that when you truly delight in the LORD, you delight in the things that he does, thus transforming you. You will desire the things that God desires. □ Read Jeremiah 29:11-13 ® "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." § You will face opposition, trials and hard times, but take heart! God has given us everything to live a godly life! □ Read 2 Peter 1:3 ® By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. CD 1572 Becoming Conquerors by Colossians - session 13Sunday Morning July 23, 2023 - (Donnie's Birthday!)"WALKING & TALKING in WISDOM”We have spent the past few months in the Epistle learning from the Apostle Paul by the Holy Spirit how to live a life of victory! As He gets ready to close this letter he reminds us how much our words and works influence those around us! Jesus taught from the beginning that His purpose in our lives was to make us into “FISHERS of MEN” and to accomplish His highest level of call. If we live and die only to ourselves then we have missed out on His Will and Way! With that being said open your Bibles to our text:*Colossians 4:5-6 (KJV) “Walk” in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 6 Let your “SPEECH” be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.#1 Note: “WALK” #2 Note: “SPEECH”#3 Note “WISDOM”#1 Note: “WALK” - figuratively to live and follow as a companion- in everyday life the Lord Jesus desires to direct our lives to His fullness!*Reread Colossians 4:5 (KJV) “Walk” in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.*Read Matthew 4:17-22 (KJV)  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 18 And Jesus, “WALKING” by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.*Read Psalms 45:6-7 (KJV) (see Hebrews 1:8-9) Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre. 7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above THY FELLOWS. (= COMPANIONS)#2 Note: “SPEECH” - (log-os) something said including the thought behind it.*Reread Colossians 4:6 (KJV) Let your “SPEECH” be alway with GRACE, SEASONED with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.“with grace” - divine influence upon the heart (see Ephesians 4:29) - How?“SEASONED” - to be prepared!"SALT" #217 (hal'-as) salt, figuratively prudence or being wise in life with preparation for the future!*Matthew 5:37 (KJV) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.#3 Note “WISDOM”*Reread Colossians 4:5-6 (KJV) “Walk” in wisdom toward them that are without, REDEEMING the time. 6 Let your “SPEECH” be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.Note “WISDOM” - (sof-ee'-ah) CLEAR AND WISE.See James 3:13 (KJV)  Who is a “WISE” man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of “WISDOM”.Note our lifestyle of walking and talking in and by wisdom will REDEEM the times. "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people." Titus 2:11 Restoration is possible - nothing is ever beyond repair. When Jesus was on earth, He referred to God more as Father than any other term. He repeated it so often that it would make mischief to deny the same. His apostles repeated the same in all their letters. Peter says we were born of the word (1 Peter 1:23). James says He is the Father of lights, and we are a kind of first fruit of his creatures (James 1:17,18), and the writer of Hebrews affirms he brought many sons unto the glory and that we are His brethren (Hebrews 2:10,11), John exclaims Beloved, now are we the sons of God (1 John 3:1,2). Jesus, upon His resurrection, says to Mary, 'go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God (John 20.17). So, this is a fact that cannot be denied about us. One of the most popular parables of Jesus was that of the so-called prodigal Son (Luke 15.11-32). In that chapter, he talked about a man who lost one sheep, left the 99 to seek the missing one, found it, and called his friends and neighbor to rejoice with him. He also talked about the woman who lost her coin, sought it, found it, and started a celebration. He now concluded His narratives with that of the man and his two children (You should read that story again, it's always a delight). 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." As the story goes, the younger son came to collect his portion of the inheritance, went away into a far country, and spent his life in riotous living. In today's parlance, you will say he went into drugs, prostitution, robbery, occultism, and whatever you might think of. And what happened? He got burnt, the law caught him, or he destroyed his body. All that said, he never stopped being a son. The moment the son realized how far he was gone, he came to himself and said I would go to my Father. Thank God, he knew who his Father was, 'The LORD who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy. ( Read Psalms 103.8-10). He knew the Father only offered forgiveness and reconciliation. He does not delight in judgment. He will not forsake; rather, He heals, restores, and sets apart. He finds the purest gold in miry clay and turns sinners into saints. God is always in the business of reconciling humankind to Himself, offering salvation to men or women who are yet to be saved, or restoring fellowship to any believer who has gone astray. Nothing speaks of our Father's character, desire, and power more than when people are restored. That's always God's desire. Amen. Matthew 11:28 says, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Amen. Prayer: Father, I thank you for the gift of forgiveness and restoration I have in you. Today, I choose to renew my mind to your love and walk in the light of the same. Thank you, Father! Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-divineo/support

When you think of God's righteousness, what comes to mind? Do you think of how God requires all people to be righteous and our inability to meet that standard? Do you think of God's commitment to punishing sin? Do you think of God's promise to save all those who believe? In this episode, we look at how God's righteousness is rooted in God's character and four aspects of God's righteousness: rectoral, retributive, redemptive, and remunerative. Read Psalms 22:1-31. The global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is going to impact our future in similar ways to world wars and other global crises. We have a duty to tell our children about God’s work amongst in these days. As yet unborn generations are relying on our faithfulness to teach our children about God and his loving concern for us. As we teach them about the Lord, so we will encourage them to tell their children about him too. If we fail to witness about God and his rescuing work amongst us to our children, then we are in danger of breaking the chain of God’s influence in the generations to come, a chain that reaches across thousands of years as one generation faithfully told of God to the next generation. The gathered church family can help in this, of course. They can help to teach our children the truths of the Bible, whether it be in Sunday School, Kids’ Church, Messy Church or many other ways of teaching about God these days. But they must hear it from us too. Their Bible knowledge must be reinforced at home. If you have children, what are you telling them about God’s loving work during this global pandemic, in particular? And if you don’t have children, think about those children under your influence – grandchildren, nieces and nephews, godchildren, neighbours’ children, children at church. What could you tell them about God in the days ahead? Let’s ensure our children hear about our loving, faithful God, who gives hope and victory even in the most difficult circumstances. THINK IT OVER Think about the following: o How would you explain your faith in God to a small child? Who could you share that testimony with today?

The psalmist remembers that God’s concern for us doesn’t begin on the day we are born and end on the day we die. It reaches back to the days before we were born and will reach ahead into eternity. The psalmist recalls that God brought him safely from his mother’s womb, having loved and cared for him since the dawn of time. No one else could help him in his time of need. God loves you. Read Psalms 22:1-31. Sometimes, when we find ourselves in a traumatic situation, we can feel that everyone has abandoned us. Just at the very moment we needed them the most, not only does God seem far away (Psalm 22:1) but our family and friends seem to have deserted us too. Their absence mocks our affliction, and the pain and hurt we feel deepens. And that makes us feel less than human. It dehumanises us. The psalmist describes feeling like a worm, a creature despised by the Israelites as one who could destroy their crops in an instant. When we feel the sting of abandonment or rejection, the best thing we can do is to keep in mind the hope and victory that God promises us. Eventually, the psalmist feels able to proclaim that future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord and everything he has done (Psalm 22:30-31). Our church family can help in this. They can be the hands and feet of Jesus, reminding us of our worth to God and to his family and helping us to remember the hope and victory we have in him. If you’re feeling broken and abandoned today – somehow, less than human – then reach out in God’s name to them today, and trust in his promises and his people. This week we focus on David’s cry of lament in Psalm 22. As God responds, David chooses to gather with his people in worship. This can help us search for the stars in the midst of our own trauma. Read Psalms 22:1-31. What do you do when God seems a million miles away? What do you say to God when you are struggling through a major trauma in your life? It’s easy to gather with your church family and to worship when things are going well. But sometimes you find yourself in a really difficult or traumatic time in your life. What do you do then? One thing you can do is gather together with others and simply voice your complaints to God. That’s what the psalmist does here. He laments that God seems to have abandoned him. God seems far away, and it hurts. In the midst of his difficulty, the psalmist cries out to God, but God does not answer. He lies awake at night, pouring out his heart to God, but nothing seems to make his situation better. Of course, God hadn’t abandoned the psalmist. And he won’t desert you either. God has promised he will never leave us. He will never abandon us. So, you can cry out to him your complaint. He’s listening. He may answer and act in his own time. He may remain silent for a while. But he will fulfil his promises to you. One day, you will gain the victory. Hallelujah! THINK IT OVER Think about the following: o Where have you found your faith in the middle of your struggles?

MEMORISE: Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. Psalms 92:13 READ: Psalms 92:12-14 12. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; MESSAGE: Anyone can be whatever before God. You can choose to be any of His creatures and you can be a servant. Well, being a servant gives one a degree of access to God but you can go further by being a child. In fact, the reason Christ died is to make us sons, co-heirs with Him. As a co-heir with Christ, you have access to everything He has. You have free access to God, you can call upon Him anytime and ask for anything you want. You have a right to call Him Father. Romans 8:15 says: “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” You will also flourish like a palm tree planted by the rivers of water because you are planted in His house, you are a son. Thus, you will achieve success in whatever you do. It is very easy to become a child of God. Just confess your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Study the word of God and constantly communicate with your Father. KEY POINT: You can upgrade your relationship with God if you have been acting like a servant. TUESDAY 4TH OF MAY, 2021 THEME: GOD GETS ANGRY TOO MEMORISE: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalms 30:5 READ: Psalms 30:1-5 1. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2. O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3. O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4. Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. MESSAGE: In this end time, many preachers tell their congregation that God is love -so loving that He cannot hurt anyone. Some even say that there is nothing one can do to provoke God that He will destroy one. Well, there is no doubt that God is love. However, saying that He cannot be provoked to anger is a lie of the devil; He can get angry. When a fellow takes Gods mercy for granted and continues to sin without control, God will be angry. God is angry with sinners. Psalm 7:11 says: “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” The wicked in the scripture above are sinners. However, our memory verse says that His anger is for a moment. When a sinner genuinely turns from his wicked ways, God will deal with him as if he never sinned. Are you taking Gods love for granted by committing sins? Stop making God angry; confess and forsake your sins today so that He can show you mercy. ACTION POINT: God is angry with sinners, don't be one. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 8-9, Luke 23:23-56 AUTHORS: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE PASTOR (MRS) FOLU ADEBOYE

THEME: COMMAND YOUR DAY MEMORISE: For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalms 30:5 READ: Psalms 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will lookup. MESSAGE: Morning is the best part of the day because different things happen in the night; those in the kingdom of darkness meet in the night. No wonder the Bible says weeping may endure for a night, but when the day breaks, new things happen. Morning comes with joy and new hope. Therefore, it is important to speak in the morning and the best time to do this is at midnight or dawn. Proverbs 8:17 says those that seek God in the morning will find Him. It is also important to command the day to your advantage because the Bible says in Matthew 13:25 that while men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares amongst the wheat and went his way. So, when you wake every morning, don't be quick to upload your WhatsApp status or look at other peoples status. Upgrade your status with the Lord on your knees. Speak with your Heavenly Father first. Hear an instruction on how to go about the day, mention your name and speak positive things into your life and the day. KEY POINT: Those that seek God early will find Him. Lament is one of the ways that we worship God, but it is not a way that is easily understood. On this podcast, we dive into what place songs of lament have in our walk with God, particularly their use – or non-use - in our churches today. We discuss with our guest, singer/songwriter Seth Brown, why that is, and why we need to consider intentionally making them a part of both our corporate and personal worship. Resources: Right Now Media videos and study guides: (Not a member of Right Now Media? Actress, producer & filmmaker Roma Downey gives the show a call from her home in California to give insight about her new film Resurrection. The film chronicles the events surrounding the Crucifixion and Resurrection (and beyond) primarily through the eyes of the disciples, including what life may very well have been like for them post-Resurrection--the dangers they faced, the persecution, and the growth of the church despite opposition from Caiaphas & the ruling elders. During the conversation, Downey says, "We hope this movie helps spread the gospel. Maybe somebody who doesn't even know about anything about Jesus might watch the movie because they hear it's a good movie and for the first time are exposed to the story. So we just pray for transformed hearts." She adds, “We haven't been able to go to church together. We haven't been able to be in community for awhile. I'm hoping this film sets a fire in people's hearts. It's great preparation for and celebration of Easter.” That her hope is to encourage should not be totally surprising. Downey was nominated for multiple Emmy & Golden Globe awards for her role as the angel Monica on the CBS series Touched By An Angel for nine seasons, with her character primarily one who encouraged. Downey also produced the mini-series The Bible for the History Channel and been involved with numerous other media efforts. Resurrection is currently available at www.discoveryplus.com. Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon to break into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3. Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30. Add egg whites to vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave his life to give us life. Read john 10:10-11. Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let theme taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27. So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 c. sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because he loves us. He wants us to know and belong to him. Read Psalms 34:8 and John 3:16. Beat the mixture with a mixer on high speed for 12-15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3. Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid. Read Matt 27:65-66. Put the cookie sheet in the oven; close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and let them seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matt 27:-65-66. GO TO BED! Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 & 22. On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the first Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matt 28:1-9. HE HAS RISEN! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Since families can't do everything they might want, discuss those activities that are most important and least important to your family. Sermon Notes for Lessons for Children Are a Gift of the LORD; the Fruit of the Womb a Reward I probably don't have to tell you children are a very sensitive issue in the church for a number of reasons: First, you have some people who haven't been able to have any children, and they feel judged or misunderstood by others.Second, some people have a lot of children and they feel…judged or misunderstood by others. Finally, you have some people who only have a few children and they feel…judged or misunderstood by others. As we begin let me tell you my desires for this message… First, I want to share what God's Word says about children… If you have no children, 15 children, or any number in between, by the end of this message I hope you'll see children as they're described in God's Word. And this applies to all of us: Obviously, it applies to people who have childrenIt also applies to people who are younger and will children in the futureIt applies to people who are older who might not be able to have children anymore, but are in the position to teach younger people about children.

Charmaine Rayment is a voluntary missionary at Jews for Jesus. She has a real passion for worship ministry. Sister Charmaine has agreed to become a contributor to a podcast series called “A Life of Worship”. This is the first part of a teaching series entitled “David: The Heart of a Worshipper”. Music is from Matt Redman. Below, you will find some notes from the episode. Follow our Spudcaster page for more podcasts. Notes from this episode DAVID – THE HEART OF A WORSHIPER PODCAST 1 Creation – perfect worship on earth existed. After the fall – different attitude in man’s worship of God as demonstrated with Cain and Abel (Gen. 4:3-7), and Aarons two sons Nadab & Abihu (Lev. 10:1-3). Worship always has been and always will be manifest in our lifestyle as a result of our relationship with God. Know God personally – (Spiritual re-birth vs dead religion). Worship is a response to God’s revelation about Himself. DAVID One of the characters in the Bible through whom we can learn so much about worship is David – The sweet singer of Israel (2 Sam. 23:1). A man after God’s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14 & Acts 13:22). DAVID’S CONTRIBUTION TO WORSHIP Established the Tabernacle of David whereby he appointed some of the Levites to minister in music before the Ark of the Lord (1 Chron. 16). Wrote Psalms (73 of the 150 Psalms in the Bible are attributed to him) and made musical instruments for the musicians to use in their worship (1 Chron. 23:5; 2 Chron. 7:6; 2 Chron. 29:26). Was given the blueprint for the building of the Temple of Solomon (1 Chron. 22) and set apart those whom would minister in music during the worship in the Temple. SHEPHERD – HUMBLE BEGINNINGS What was it that God saw in David? We are not told what David’s relationship with God was like during this period but it was during this season that he was anointed by Samuel as the future king (1 Sam. 16). The fact that God tells Samuel that He had chosen the future king amongst Jesse’s sons, tells us that God saw something in David. In 1 Sam.13:14 Samuel already tells Saul that God has sought out a man after his own heart. SEASON OF FAVOR King Saul – season of favor (harpist and armor-bearer). SEASON OF HARDSHIP King Saul becomes jealous of David and his success and plots to kill him. In the process Saul enlists 3000 men to chase, capture and murder him. David now has to flee for his life and for the next 7-8 years with the 400 men that have joined him, lives in hiding as he flees from Saul and his men. Read Psalms 18; 34; 52; 54; 56; 57; and 59 which were written during this time. SEASON OF FAVOR Anointed as King of Juda and reigns over Judah for 7 ½ years. Anointed king of Israel and reigned over all Judah and Israel for 33 years. David commits murder and adultery thus breaking 2 of the 10 commandments (2 Sam. 11). David repents when rebuked by the prophet Nathan (2 Sam. 12). Psalm 51 reflects David’s penitent heart. David’s son Absalom conspired against him in order to take over the kingdom (2 Sam. 15-18) and again David has to flee. Psalm 3 reflects once again David’s faith in God to deliver him from his enemies. In having looked at the life of David, we can see that no matter what the circumstances were, David always placed his trust in God and as he experienced God in his life, he responded in worship. PODCAST 2 WORSHIP WITH A HEART LIKE DAVID. David earnestly sought to know God and as a result, he knew the God whom he worshiped. David fully engaged his heart in worship to God and was fully surrendered in His worship to God. David learned to worship God in any situation and expected his perspective to be changed during worship. David didn’t take approaching God’s throne lightly. David embraced the sacrifice of worship. David’s honesty with God drew him into worship. This is obviously not an exhaustive list of things we could learn from David’s worship. But I hope it’s enough to encourage us to worship with a heart like his that says, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!” (Psalm 57:7). In having looked at the life of David, we can see that no matter what the circumstances were, David always placed his trust in God. David didn’t just know about God (He also would have had access to the books of Moses and would have known about the numerous times that God guided, protected and provided for his people), but he knew God as he had personally experienced God in his life. The question is, do we have that kind of relationship with God?

Do you ever feel like God is silent? Have you felt as though your prayers are going nowhere? We often mistake God’s silence as a sign of His absence. In today’s episode, Jodi will share a personal story of when she experienced God’s silence and what He revealed to her during this time. She challenges us to recognize even when God is silent He is still actively working in our lives. Consider reading the following verses and write them on sticky notes or 3x5 cards. Then place them around your home, car, or workplace to remind yourself of God’s truth in this matter. Ephesians 2:22, 3:12, 3:20 Romans 8:26-27 Psalms 31:21-24, 34:15, 40:3, 149:1 Read Psalms 34 and see that trust causes our hearts to rejoice in Him. P.S. Jesus said, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.”Matthew 18:19-20Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.Psalm 133“One of you shall chase a thousand, but two of you shall chase ten thousand...”Deuteronomy 32:30GOING DEEPER:As believers in Christ, we are all called to be united in Him. How has the COVID-19 virus made this easier or harder? God answers our prayers in many ways, and not always in the ways we want. Describe a time when your prayers were answered. Describe a time when they were not answered. Were you grateful for the "unanswered" prayers? How regular or developed is your prayer life? Do you pray alone, with family, friends, or your LifeGroup? Have you seen a shift in your prayer life during this season of COVID-19? If yes, in what way? How can your LifeGroup help you take a next step in developing a stronger prayer life? How do your earthly relationships impact your relationship with God? Is doubt always a bad thing? Read Psalms 42-43; how do you see the Psalmist being honest about his doubts? How do you see him take his doubts to God, instead of using them to turn away from God? 2. Can you think of other times when Jesus presented the Gospel as an ultimatum, a choice that required an urgent, decisive response? See Luke 18:18-27 for one example. 3. Read 1 Peter 5:6-11. What does this passage tell you about Satan’s power? How should we respond in light of Satan’s power? Is God trying to scare us, sober us, encourage us (or all of the above, or something else) through these verses?

Read Psalms 139:1-12My wife recalls a time in her childhood when she imagined herself as a character in a storybook being read by someone—someone greater than herself. This was her first sense of God's existence and presence. The concept of God being all-knowing—omniscient—can be assuring and scary. My wife's childlike sense of God's omnipresence opened up her realization of His omniscience and omnipotence.Of course, she didn't think in those terms as a child, but she began to understand how God was nearby and everywhere at the same time, all-powerful, and knew her as He knows all things.King David doesn't use these theological terms either but described each of them in this psalm, as he did other psalms of worship. He had a very personal relationship with God.David understood God wasn't distant from us even though He is much greater than we are. David understood God's sovereignty and His attributes without losing sight of God's personal nearness. Not only was David aware of how well God knew him—he knew God.Psalm 139 gives us great insight into the relationship King David enjoyed with God and how well he understood who God was. We can see his great love for God and his intimate relationship with God. At the same time, David's reverent awe of God is evident.David exclaims—"You know me." He understood that God knew his very thoughts and motives—all of them! David's son, King Solomon, later declared—"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7).David's awareness of God's greatness didn't cause him to cringe in fear but gave him great assurance of God's love and mercy.Have you experienced a sense of God's nearness in your life?God wants us to know Him as He already knows us—in an intimate, personal relationship.

We explore the Imprecatory Psalms invoking judgment, curses and calamity upon one's enemies. Psalm 35 is one such psalm and is quoted some seven times in the New Testament. We learn the voice and context of this psalm as Christ in the midst of his passion and death. The voice is Christ and as we pray this psalm, we pray in union with Christ, our redeemer. We discuss the general dis-ease we have with such psalms and the wider stories of violence in the Old Testament.
