Focusing on some of the little things that are fundamental to building a long term relationship, Turecki also highlights the importance of self-awareness, pattern recognition, and the distinction between lust and love. And when it comes to modern dating, Tureck’s advice is to not write someone off too soon and instead of relying on dating apps, suggests being proactive and resourceful in meeting people face to face, such as volunteering or joining groups.    Guest: Jillian Turecki Relationship coach, host of the podcast, ‘Jillian On Love.’ and author “It Begins With You: The 9 Hard Truths About Love That Will Change Your Life.”

And so we meet someone, they're amazing, we're attracted to them, and we unconsciously project our ideal onto this person." - Jillian TureckiRelationship coach Jillian Turecki delves into one of the most confusing and painful relationship transitions: when a seemingly perfect partner begins showing concerning behaviors months into a relationship. She explains the psychological dilemma that makes walking away so difficult—after six months of connection, we're already emotionally entangled, living out our dreams of partnership, and dreading a return to the dating world. This attachment creates a devastating crossroads when red flags emerge, requiring tremendous strength to address them directly rather than ignoring them or immediately ending the relationship.Turecki reveals the unconscious patterns that set relationships up for disappointment, particularly our tendency to project an idealized blueprint onto new partners. She describes how we place them on pedestals, making their inevitable fall that much more jarring when reality sets in. The transition from honeymoon phase to committed relationship brings a mirror to our own unresolved issues, creating a critical juncture where communication becomes essential. The real test of relationship viability isn't finding someone perfect, but finding someone willing to have difficult conversations, while also examining our own unrealistic expectations and intolerance for the imperfections we ourselves possess.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter

Despite navigating a complex relationship with her father, who struggled with severe bipolar disorder and narcissistic personality disorder, she emerged with deep insights into how our earliest relationships shape our adult connections. As a relationship coach, she brings a nuanced perspective to the intricate ways childhood experiences influence our choice of romantic partners, often leading us to unconsciously seek out relationships that mirror our earliest emotional wounds. Her personal story of growing up in an emotionally volatile household, where hypervigilance became a survival skill, offers powerful lessons about healing and transformation. Turecki shares her professional expertise on why many people unknowingly marry someone similar to the parent with whom they struggled most, exploring the unconscious patterns that drive our relationship choices. Relationship coach Jillian Turecki is here to share incredible advice to help you realize how you can choose the best partner for yourself, help you navigate your relationship, tips for getting out of relationships ruts, and more! Jillian has a gift for concise, pithy insights that can be life-changing (she has been a relationship coach for 20 years helping people transform their relationships with themselves), and in this episode, she explains why we all need discipline and curiosity, how we all can always control our own behavior, and the importance of transcending the urges of the primitive brain so you can start to become more self-aware and change your relationship patterns.  This is a great show to listen to if you're relationship, but particularly if you are single and looking for a partner—Jillian will tell you how to break negative patterns in your relationships and avoid creating stories and getting into your head too far, why so many women often go for the Bad Boy and men often go for the Baby Bird, why resentment is the killer of relationships, and more helpful advice to help you navigate your relationships, whether you're single or partnered up.    TIMESTAMPS: The mind is a battlefield, so we have to work hard and make a choice to do something different in life. [00:52] Most relationship problems stem from something that's going on in our own life, like not being happy, fulfilled, satisfied, or your low self-esteem.  [05:23] We often end up telling stories about the person we are in a relationship with rather than learning good communication.  [08:07] How do we extricate ourselves from the pattern of assuming? What is the story I'm telling myself? [13:28] These problems are not part of a flawed childhood, it is just part of being human. [16:19] Everyone is in control of their behavior. [22:20] The two things that matter in a relationship is who you choose and who you show up as. [24:49] You want someone who embodies the qualities and the character traits that you need in order to function in a relationship.  [29:31] Why do some women go for the bad boy? [33:33] Some men are attracted to a woman who is a broken bird. Her vulnerability is what attracts. [39:16] In general people want to live their life with someone who loves them. [42:58] Do you have to love yourself before you can be in a relationship? [46:47] Sex complicates things.  Get to know someone on a profound level before you take it to sex and playing house with each other. [50:18] Men like to hunt and pursue women. The problem is they don't understand what happens to the woman after he catches and beds her.

What life habits keep our brain healthy? How does our mind respond to trauma? And why does the way we talk about suicide and mental health make such a difference to those who are struggling? We discuss all these topics with neuroscience researcher Dr Daniel Almeida. World Mental Health Day has recently shed a spotlight on our psychological wellbeing. So we decided to republish the sound mental health advice we learnt from our guest Dr Daniel Almeida from episode 255 in October 2021. Daniel has been named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in science. His incredible work as a neuroscience researcher in the Douglas Research Centre at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, involves psychological autopsies to understand the molecular impacts of severe childhood abuse on the brains of individuals who died by suicide. As you can imagine, this episode is full of difficult yet important topics. But what struck us most about Daniel was how upbeat and positive he is about his work and the difference it's making to people's lives. Daniel kindly shares his top 5 healthy brain habits that we can all adopt to improve our mental wellbeing.  If you, or someone you know needs help with their mental health, please use one of the resources in the links below.  Mental Health Support Suicide Prevention Lifeline (US):https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: https://afsp.org/suicide-prevention-resources Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: National Helpline (US): 1-800-662-HELP (4357). We've all experienced it: the gut-wrenching pain of a heartbreak and the eventual struggle to understand the dynamics of relationships.  In this episode of Habits and Hustle, we dive deep into the intricacies of relationships, discussing everything from the psychology behind relationship patterns to the role of stress, selfishness, and fear of rejection with Jillian Turecki. Jillian enlightened us with her distinctive insights on topics such as the reality of soulmates and the idea that a long-term relationship requires continuous choices. We also took a hard look at trauma bonds, anxious attachment, and the importance of becoming radically self-aware to break destructive cycles. This conversation was not just intellectual but also deeply personal, as it drew from Jillian's experiences and expertise. Finally, we shifted our focus to some of the more nuanced aspects of relationships. We ruminated on gender differences in emotional connections with sex, pondered over the concept of safety for women due to their vulnerability, and tackled the vexing issue of lost attraction in an otherwise fulfilling relationship.  Jillian Turecki is a certified relationship coach, teacher and writer who for 20 years has taught others how to transform their relationships with themselves. Under the tutelage of Tony Robbins and world renowned family therapist Cloe Madanes, Jillian is certified by the Robbins Madanes Center for Strategic Intervention. Fueled by an insatiable curiosity about what makes a relationship thrive, Jillian has helped thousands through her teaching and writing revolutionize their relationship with themselves so that they transform their relationships with others.  What we discuss: (0:00:01) - How did Jillian becoming a relationship coach? (0:11:02) - Are our relationship expectations realistic or selfish? (0:22:47) - How to break bad relationship patterns (0:33:35) - Busting myths about relationships (0:40:30) - How important is emotional connection in sex? Key Takeaways: There's no such thing as one soulmate. People come into our lives for various reasons and not everyone who feels like a soulmate is. Not everything is meant to be a life story. Some people come into our lives to wake us up. Some people come into our lives to help us through a period of time. Some people come into our lives to show us some adventure.  If you lose attraction towards a partner, you have to understand why. A couple can bring it back if they understand the why and they work on the why. And especially if there was once a lot of attraction in the beginning. It is something that typically can be resurrected as long as the other things are sort of rectified and worked on.  We learn about our attachment styles and we learn about what we're experiencing on the attachment spectrum, based on who we are relating to. And it's also very dependent on what else is going on in our lives. For example, if we're going through a very difficult time in our lives, we might become more anxiously attached to someone because we think on a subconscious level that this person is going to rescue us and is going to make it all better.  Learn more about Jillian: Website: https://www.jillianturecki.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/B4smb80j8Am/ Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jillian-on-love/id1640172049?ls=1&itscg=30200&itsct=qcode_podcasts&at=1001l36mQ&ct=JOL-Chartable My links: Website: https://www.jennifercohen.com/ Instagram: @therealjencohen  Learn more about your ad choices. The importance of understanding issues in a relationship aren't just about the other person, but as much about yourself Taking responsibility for your love life is not about blaming yourself How we need to love ourselves before we can love others well Important medicine for relationships:  accountability, forgiveness, and truth The biggest problems in a relationship is trying to change the other person and relying too much on the other person to make you happy Asking “how can I change to help you change?” When a relationship is failing, we often go into survival mode and neglect to see our role in the relationship How we need to keep acknowledging our appreciation to our partners Our “emotional home” is the pattern of what we do when we're stressed How all of our emotional patterns come from fear The critical role of cCommunication in relationships Remembering that we should be listening more and talking less How you think about your partner's intent when feeling hurt or angry Jillian Turecki Links Jillian's Website Jillian's Podcast Instagram Facebook By purchasing products and/or services from our sponsors, you are helping to support The One You Feed and we greatly appreciate it. In this episode, Relationship Coach and Teacher, Jillian Turecki and I talk all things relationships.  We start off with Jillian sharing a little about her childhood and what led up to her finding her passion in the world of relationships.  Jillian shares some hardships she went through during her "dark night of the soul," from the breakup of her marriage to her mother's diagnosis with stage 4 lung cancer. We chatted about the "unshakeable courage" it takes to face our fears and learn the relationship and communication skills none of us were taught in school.  We talked about the importance of changing the way we see ourselves, the importance of authenticity, the unlearning that must be done, learning how to "feel enough," and actually "make ourselves happy."But most importantly, we chatted about the importance of working on ourselves.  As Jillian says, “Every relationship that I've ever had, had one thing in common, and that was me.”  Hence we need to stop saying "it's all them."We chatted about marriage counseling, why that often fails, and why Jillian prefers to work with individuals, as opposed to couples.Other topics included Jillian's thoughts on dating apps, love verses compatibility, how to keep romance and sex alive in a long-term relationship, twin flames, soul mates and so much more! Jillian Turecki is a certified relationship coach, teacher and writer who for 20 years has taught others how to transform their relationships with themselves.Under the tutelage of Tony Robbins and world renowned family therapist Cloe Madanes, Jillian is certified by the Robbins Madanes Center for Strategic Intervention, a renowned coaching program known for its innovative strategic solutions to the most difficult relationship problems.
