Karen Waller is a photographer based in Adelaide, South Australia. It was Karen's ICM images of agave plants that first caught my eye but digging into her portfolio I found she's also a fantastic aerial photographer and an accomplished portrait photographer with an amazing and diverse portfolio. Karen's creative journey started in childhood when she was encouraged to draw and paint and she went on to gain a degree in Visual Arts. Although photography has become her chosen medium, her work is still informed by the painter within. Karen's courageous curiosity has shaped a photographer who's work is quite unique and our conversation covers how she discovered ICM photography, how she has been able to use photography to get through difficult times, how she approaches new portrait subjects in the supermarket as well as the stories behind some of her most memorable photographs. I loved meeting Karen, I hope you do too. Before we can communicate the value of what we do to our customers, we first need to learn to value ourselves, our time, and our work. Today's episode is all about value, and who better to discuss this with than Jed Taufer, host of the This Conversation podcast, and someone who has had a positive impact on my own career. There are a number of factors which value is built upon, some of which are objective, and some of which are subjective. Jed, through his years of experience on both the studio ownership and photo lab sides of the photography industry, has created a list of game changing factors relating to value, a few of which he shares with us today. Among other topics, we discuss mentors, minimalism, and the “hire slow, fire fast” approach Jed and his business partner and wife Vicki have adopted. Timestamps: [0:01:02] An introduction to today's guest, Jed Taufer, host of the This Conversation podcast, and what we are going to discuss in this episode. The long awaited video discussing Wacom Tablet Vs iPad for graphic designers and illustrators to work on illustrations, sketches, logo design, making concepts and more. ►►► Check out the gear discussed in the video links below... Which device or combination of devices is best for your creative process. In this video, I want to talk about the features and benefits of each device, but more than anything I want to talk about the usefulness of each device because I think this is what will ultimately help you make the right buying decision! iPad Pro ( https://amzn.to/2P46D2w ) iPad ( https://amzn.to/2yggknF ) Apple Pencil ( https://amzn.to/2y5LfCR ) Wacom Intuos Pro ( https://amzn.to/2QlApQH ) Wacom Intuos ( https://amzn.to/2QqHkbw ) I don't believe there is a perfect answer to this question. There is not a one fits all solution. I think that whoever is looking for one of these devices has a specific lifestyle that would fit well with one of these choices. A lot of people are wondering if the iPad better than Wacom Tablet or is the Wacom Tablet better than iPad? Should Let's jump into the content talking about the Wacom Tablet Vs iPads and see which device is right for you. Should you buy the iPad Pro/iPad or the Wacom Tablet? 1. iPad The iPad paired with the Apple Pencil is a great device for anyone who finds themselves commuting by train, bus, Uber, or plane. Basically, they are on the go a lot and they have time to sketch, and brainstorm ideas. It is a small device for tight spaces making it the prime candidate for this lifestyle. Apple has done a great job with their pen (Pencil) making it responsive to pressure sensitivity and palm recognition. From a specification standpoint, this is a very well engineered product. The way technology is today I am not concerned about any of these products being good enough to purchase. They are all excellent choices. the question is which one fits your needs. 2. Wacom Tablet The Wacom Tablet is something I am most confident using and what I mean by confident is I like the feel and experience of using a Wacom Tablet. It is a very intuitive device. It is a device I have used for a long time and it has been very beneficial to me. There are a few big reasons that I like the Wacom over the Apple iPad / Pencil combination. The first reason is posture. A lot of times when we are using touchscreen devices we can easily get gravitate towards bad posture. This is dangerous. Spending hours and hours at a desk and behind a screen is dangerous enough as it is, but then add in hunching over a screen and you multiply the damage. A Wacom Tablet allows you to retain appropriate posture as you work. The second reason I like this device so much is that it has a very natural feel when you slid the Pen across the surface of the Wacom Tablet. IT resists similar to how the paper would resist it is not stick rather coarse. So it mimics that paper like feel we all adore. The Wacom Tablet is an excellent Hybrid between sketching digitally and on a piece of paper. ------- Support My Channel With Patreon! ►►► ( https://www.patreon.com/bengkaiser ) SOCIAL Twitter ► @bengkaiser Facebook ►/bengkaiser Instagram ►@bengkaiser WHERE I LEARN: (affiliate links) Lynda.com ► http://bit.ly/2rQB2u4 Envato ► http://bit.ly/2CSoROx edX.org ► http://fxo.co/4y00 MY FAVORITE GEAR: (affiliate links) Camera ► http://amzn.to/2BWvE9o CamStand ► http://amzn.to/2BWsv9M Compute ► http://amzn.to/2zPeLvs Mouse ► http://amzn.to/2C0T9hq TubeBuddy ► https://www.tubebuddy.com/bengkaiser Host Gator ► http://bit.ly/2CBonPO ( Get 60% off Website Hosting with the link ) DISCLAIMER: ALL LINKS IN DESCRIPTION ARE AFFILIATE LINKS Thanks for Supporting Our Channel! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bengkaiser/support

"Location is not a barrier...it doesn't matter where you live, whether you are in a more rural destination or New York, if your work's good, you're going to get noticed." Our first international guest joins the show this week as Aussie, Tyson Beck comes aboard the podcast. Tyson is the founder of Posterizes, an international digital design collective that creates digital art for the NBA. Posterizes has launched the design careers of many independent designers, including Tyson himself, who just wrapped up a project with Topps trading card company. We discuss how Tyson got started in design and the importance of social media (expecially Instagram) when it comes to getting discovered and landing your dream clients. Controversially, we touch on the difference between inspiration and stealing the work of others – why one can be a good thing and the other a disaster; as well as debating the merits of going to school for design versus just starting working. Tyson's work can be found at Posterizes, Instagram and Twitter. Mentions include: Tyson Beck on Twitter Tyson Beck Instagram Aussie Rules Football West Coast Remix Posterizes Posterizes Instagram STN Digital Dariusz Ejkiewicz Ishaan Mishra Caroline Blanchet Ryan Hurst Wacom Tablet Nike's The Baddest Campaign Horse Clothing Co Australia My next guest is Matt Walker. Matt was an associate art director at ESPN and the design lead behind ESPN's Fantasy Sports line of products. Most recently he helped CBS Interactive on their fantasy sports line and currently freelances under his studio, Walk Design.

Every good illustrator knows the advantage of using a Wacom tablet with Adobe Illustrator. In this episode we'll take a look at the power of using pressure sensitivity. When you plug in a Wacom tablet it doesn't automatically set your tools to be pressure sensitive. I'll show you how to set your brushes to really take advantage of your new tablet.
