Sean welcomes back massive friend of the show Luke, from The Howdy Beans Podcast! to discuss the first Wallace and Gromit film. What follows is a celebration of English television. With the shops shut on a Bank Holiday, A Grand Day Out (1989) sees an inventor Wallace and his pet dog Gromit travel to the moon in their home-made rocket ship, in order to replenish their cheese supplies. Because you can't have dry crackers can you?Discussion Points:-In the preamble, Sean and Luke still don't see eye to eye on Signs (2002), Bruce Willis's later film roles, and Gladiator II.-The genesis of Wallace and Gromit and the labour of love from Nick Park to get this film made. -"Let's bow to the inevitable"-Sean and Luke try to avoid tangents.-The size of Wallace's "door-stop" cheese slices.-Aardman films over the years.-The cooker on the moon and his dreams of skiing on Earth. -The death of Boomerang, CITV and Cartoon Network.-Luke is still disgusted with Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (2023).-Luke and Sean discuss subsequent Wallace and Gromit films The Wrong Trousers (1993), A Close Shave (1995), The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005), A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008), and Vengeance Most Fowl (2024).Raised Questions:-How many aliases does Luke actually have?-Where's Sarah?-Do you need to describe Wallace and Gromit for the Americans?-Is it ridiculous to call this Wallace and Gromit, the one with the most unrealistic?-How did this film save an entire cheese?-Do you remember surround sound speakers around the room?-Is 'reverse-recency bias' a thing?-Is Moon Cheese just a different variety?Time stamps:0:09 Introduction and Sighs2:09 Signs Discussion5:28 A Grand Day Out Overview10:25 Nick Park and Aardman12:05 Wallace and Gromit Characters16:57 Animation Techniques23:03 Peter Sallis and Voice Acting28:08 Personal Memories of A Grand Day Out30:32 Favorite Wallace and Gromit Films37:49 Nostalgia and British Culture55:14 Ending Reflections1:01:04 Film Length and Experience1:02:53 Aardman's Future and Challenges1:08:15 Podcast Promotion and Closing RemarksNamed TV Shows:-Creature Comforts (1989-Present).-Brum (1991-2002).-Mr Bean (1990-1995).-Open All Hours (1976-1985).-Still Open All Hours (2013-2019)-Come Outside (1993-1997).-Mr Benn (1971-1972).-Pingu (1990-2006).-The Clangers (1969-Present).-Fireman Sam (1987-Present).-Joshua Jones (1992).-William's Wish Wellingtons (1994-1996).-The Queen's Nose (1995-2003).-The Demon Headmaster (1996-1998, 2019).-My Parents Are Aliens (1999-2006).-Jungle Run (1999-2006).-50/50 (1997-2005).-Get Your Own Back (1991-2004).-Cow and Chicken (1995-1999). -The Cramp Twins (2001-2004).-Ed, Edd and Eddy (1999-2006).-Dexter's Lab (1996-1998, 2001-2003).-Recess (1997-2001).-The Powerpuff Girls (1998-2005)-Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999-2002).-Hole in the Wall Game Show (2008-2009).-Shaun the Sheep (2007-Present).Thanks for Listening!Find us here: X: @YourselfReviewInstagram: reviewityourselfpodcast2021YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReviewItYourself Hosted on Acast. For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, Josh Parham & Daniel Howat to review and discuss the latest film in the "Wallace & Gromit" franchise: "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl" starring Ben Whitehead, Peter Kay, Lauren Patel & Reece Shearsmith. It is the sixth "Wallace & Gromit" film and the second feature-length film after the Oscar-winning "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" (2005) with the return of the villainous penguin Feathers McGraw from "The Wrong Trousers" (1993), which takes revenge on Wallace and Gromit by reprogramming their robotic garden gnome Wallace has become so dependent on. What did we think of the story, the stop-motion animation, the comedy, and the continued adventures of everyone's favorite Aardman creations? Presenting episode 117 of the Skwigly Animation Podcast! In this episode we look back at the incredible world of Wallace & Gromit, whose hotly-anticipated new feature-length outing 'Vengeance Most Fowl' will premiere in the UK on Christmas day! We also welcome the film's co-directors Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham as well as star Ben Whitehead (voice of Wallace) to learn more about the duo's latest adventure, which sees the return of the franchise's most beloved villain Feathers McGraw, known for his chillingly mute performance in 1993's BAFTA and Oscar-winning The Wrong Trousers. Gromit's concern that Wallace is becoming too dependent on his inventions proves justified, when Wallace invents a “smart” gnome that seems to develop a mind of its own. When it emerges that a vengeful figure from the past might be masterminding things, it falls to Gromit to battle sinister forces and save his master… or Wallace may never be able to invent again! The 70-minute long film will be the pair's first feature-length outing since 2005's Curse of the Were-Rabbit and is set to premiere on the BBC/BBC iPlayer this Christmas followed by a global release on Netflix in the new year. Presented by Ben Mitchell and Steve Henderson Produced, edited and music by Ben Mitchell Interviews conducted by Ben Mitchell and Steve Henderson

Coraline  is a dark fantasy horror children's novel by British author Neil Gaiman. Gaiman started writing Coraline in 1990, and it was published in 2002 by Bloomsbury and HarperCollins. It was awarded the 2003 Hugo Award for Best Novella, the 2003 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 2002 Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers. The Guardian ranked Coraline #82 in its list of 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. It was adapted as a 2009 stop-motion animated film, directed by Henry Selick under the same name.   Coraline is a 2009 American stop-motion animated dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Henry Selick and based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name. Produced by Laika as the studio's first feature film, it features the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Ian McShane. The film tells the story of its titular character discovering an idealized parallel universe behind a secret door in her new home, unaware that it contains a dark and sinister secret.   Just as Gaiman was finishing his novella in 2002, he met Selick and invited him to make a film adaptation, as Gaiman was a fan of Selick's The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. When Selick thought that a direct adaptation would lead to "maybe a 47-minute movie", the screenplay had some expansions, like the introduction of Wybie, who was not present in the original novel. Selick invited Japanese illustrator Tadahiro Uesugi to become the concept artist upon discovering his work when looking for a design away from that of most animation. His biggest influences were on the colour palette, which was muted in reality and more colourful in the Other World, similar to The Wizard of Oz. To capture stereoscopy for the 3D release, the animators shot each frame from two slightly apart camera positions. Production of the stop-motion animation feature took place at a warehouse in Hillsboro, Oregon. Bruno Coulais composed the film's musical score.   The film was theatrically released in the United States on February 6, 2009 by Focus Features after a world premiere at the Portland International Film Festival on February 5, and received critical acclaim. The film grossed $16.85 million during its opening weekend, ranking third at the box office, and by the end of its run had grossed over $124 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing stop-motion film of all time after Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The film won Annie Awards for Best Music in an Animated Feature Production, Best Character Design in an Animated Feature Production and Best Production Design in an Animated Feature Production and received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film. It has since developed a cult following in the years since its release.   Opening Credits; Introduction (1.20); Background History (9.33); Coraline Plot Synopsis (10.37); Book Thoughts (12.26); Let's Rate (31.40); Introducing a Film (33.14); Coraline Film Trailer (36.35); Lights, Camera, Action (38.55); How Many Stars (1:00.24); End Credits (1:02.03); Closing Credits (1:03.30)   Opening Credits– Epidemic Sound – Copyright . Flushed Away is a 2006 computer-animated adventure comedy film directed by Sam Fell and David Bowers, produced by Cecil Kramer, David Sproxton, and Peter Lord, and written by Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais, Chris Lloyd, Joe Keenan and Will Davies. It was the third and final DreamWorks Animation film co-produced with Aardman Features following Chicken Run (2000) and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005), and was the first Aardman project mostly made in CGI animation as opposed to starting with their usual stop-motion. The film stars the voices of Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Ian McKellen, Shane Richie, Bill Nighy, Andy Serkis and Jean Reno. In the film, a pampered pet rat named Roddy St. James (Jackman) is flushed down the toilet in his Kensington apartment by a sewer rat named Sid (Richie), and befriends a scavenger named Rita Malone (Winslet) in order to get back home while evading a sinister toad (McKellen) and his hench-rats (Nighy and Serkis). -- Audiomorphs is an Animorphs podcast which is actually not so much a podcast as a bootleg Animorphs audiobook. MONSTERBATING: “You can hop, but you can't hide”. Join film enthusiast and blogger Tony Cogan (Coogs Reviews) as we discuss Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit and the 1931 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, two films about experiments that go wrong and result in the creation of a monster (don't you hate when that happens?). Also, enjoy an episode that covers some of the same ideas: Jurassic Park/Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein/Son of Frankenstein at https://anchor.fm/dashboard/episode/elsfomas well as Apple, Spotify and other streaming services. Don't you hate it when something goes a little wrong? You create a person out of spare body parts and they go on a murderous rampage. You create dinosaurs out of DNA and they go on a murderous rampage. You create a serum to get rid of the bad part of you and you go on a murderous rampage. You create a mind manipulator for bunny rabbits and you end up going on a murderous rampage of…well, vegetables, but the principle is the same. Sounds like it's time for Episode 64 of Pop Art, the podcast where my guest chooses a movie from popular culture, and I'll select a film from the more art/classic/indie side of cinema with a connection to it. This time, I am happy to welcome as my guest, film enthusiast and blogger Tony Cogan, who has chosen as his film the stop motion animated comedy Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, while I have chosen the pre-code horror film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, both films about scientific experiments gone wrong resulting in the creation of a monster. And in this episode we'll answer such questions as: How do you pronounce Jekyll? What does a director do on an animated film? How were the special effects achieved in Dr. Jekyll…? What is the difference between American and British horror/sci-fi films of the 1950s and 60s? Why did Wallace Beery tie with Frederic March for Best Actor at the Oscars? Just what is it about animated films and their increase in popularity? What's innovative about the opening scene in Dr. Jekyll?
