Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep. 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are elevating our thinking and rising above for a new perspective. Life can be chaotic and the world may seem out of control but WE don't have to get lost in the minutia trying to figure it all out. Are you shaking your head because you've had one of those days? I'm sure when you woke up this morning you had high hopes to soar through the day focused on only the positive only to get pushed and pulled into every traumatic, anxiety-induced, over-the-top issue possible. Ok breathe….stay with me here, what if, none of that needed your time and attention? I'm not suggesting and out of body experience here but let's imagine ourselves floating up above all the problems of the world. From here we look down to put things into perspective. What do you see? I love this visual and use it often. It reduces a mountain back down to a molehill. It allows me to prioritize when everything seems to want the same amount of attention, and it opens my eyes to the fact that I don't have to spin every plate or catch every ball.  Everyone can picture a mouse maze, right? Now, don't you know the mouse wishes he had your perspective right now? All he wants is some cheese, he's hungry, he can smell it but from his vantage point, he only sees obstacle after obstacle, dead end after dead end. From your perspective, you can see the right path to the cheese without any problem - “Go there…no no, take a left, now a right, RUN You got it!” The chaos of life can feel like that mouse maze where we keep going in circles and getting now where. It's a very difficult environment, but everyday you go out and serve honorably and bravely. Remember you are honored, cherished and loved. Keep up the great work.  When you get up in the morning what are you thinking about? Are your thoughts focused on the negative? Are you focused on your anxiety or stress? Are you worried about money and how you are going to pay the bills? Or, are you focused on the positive in your life? Are you grateful?  When you start your day off in the negative, there is a pretty good chance you are going to remain in that mindset for the duration of the day #mindset.  We have all stubbed our toe(s) at one point or another right? Did that experience send you in a tail spin for the rest of the day? I know it has for me in the past. But, you don't have to stay in that mindset. You have the power.  Remember YOU control your thoughts. Your mind is a garden. What you PLANT in your mind will grow. Before you get out of bed I want you to start thinking about the positive in your life. I want you to be grateful. It's that time of the year, when we prepare to say goodbye to one year and welcome in the next… and more than ever we are ready to say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. I gave up making New Year's Resolutions a few years ago. When I first heard about One Word, I thought “I can do that.” and that I probably needed that. I need to shift my thinking from choosing a resolution and something I had to DO all year long, to a word that would be my ‘mantra' and help me BE the person I wanted to be. I wanted to choose that One Word that would inspire me to be my best and help me keep my focus for the whole year. I wanted to be able to LIVE my word. Last year, my #OneWord2020 was Brave. Little did I know that I would live my word in so many ways during the past year. I encourage you to find your #OneWord2021. I don't have my word…. Yet. I know it will come to me. My word always chooses me. Take time to reflect and listen. Be open and your One Word will find you. You can also ask yourself these questions- What do you want to focus on? What do you need more or less? What needs to change? Where do you want to see growth? Once you find your word or your word finds you- Write it down, make a poster or graphic, paint a rock or canvas, put it on a coffee mug, or make jewelry (a friend made a bracelet for me with my word from 2019 and I looked at it every day while wearing it). The ideas are endless! The key is to keep your word front and center so you can see it and LIVE it! Once you have your word, share it….. A couple weeks ago, the 2018 Major League Baseball season kicked off. If you follow MLB, my guess is that you have high hopes and expectations for your team this year. But the reality is that in spite of all the blood, sweat, and tears in the next few months, 29 of the 30 teams playing in April will not win the World Series in October. One of the aspects of baseball that makes it unique (and beautiful) is its focus on failure management. Failure is an inevitable part of baseball – not just for teams, but for individuals. In what other place in life can you fail 7 out of 10 times and still be considered a smashing success? In baseball, if you can manage your failure that much as a batter, you will be a raging success. Twenty three times in the past 140 years, an MLB has a pitcher thrown what is called a “perfect game”—a game with no hits or walks. That may seem fairly common, but that breaks down to about 1 in every 20,000 games. Therefore, to be successful as a pitcher also means to learn to manage the inevitableness of failure. When it comes to our lives, nobody likes failure, but there is another side to failure that we experience in life we will be talking about this weekend. It is more powerful than that feeling of failure or temporary setback, nd when you experience this in your life, it can set you back weeks, months, or even years.Researchers have found the single most often expressed emotion in daily conversation is love: A child to a parent, a friend to a friend - expressions of caring and affection are more common than anything else that we say.But the second most commonly expressed emotion on a daily basis is regret: “I wish I had shown up on time. I wish I’d spoken up. I wish I hadn’t eaten that. I wish I’d been saving my money. I wish I’d asked her out. I wish I hadn’t asked her out.” We are continuing our conversation on Sunday called “Five Words that Will Change Your Life.” This Sunday, James Stewart and I will be having a conversation around the word “sorry.” How do you deal with regret in life? How do we reconcile with people that we have hurt? Are there areas of our lives that we need to say “sorry” for that we aren’t even aware of?

Happy New Year! 2018 is now officially upon us. I know it’s common for us to make a new year’s resolution at this time. However, this can be tricky for a number of reasons.  On this week's episode, I share the process I use to set my intentions and goals for the new year. The key to this process is a series of questions I ask myself. Stop counting the days towards payday- start budgeting regularly Your life will become to much easier Budgeting doesn’t mean to restrict yourself It gives you the ability to plan your life and figure out how to structure your money Not looking at your finances doesn’t mean you’re doing a good job. In the long run its going to help you dramatically! [5:4] Categories to have in a budget Savings is number 1- take money out your account IMMEDIATELY Rent/Mortgage Transportation Food- Groceries & Eating out Vacation- build in categories even if they’re not once off Build out sections depending on whats important to you. [7:40] How to manage spending within your means It doesn’t have to be tough Cutting back can be rough Sometimes writing stuff down in a journal is really helpful to keep yourself accountable If you can live without stuff then let it go They key to getting rich is to living under or below your means “Roughing it” is probably not that bad [9:58] What to do after a binge weekend Life happens, sometimes you won’t be able to save as much as you want In future periods you can cut back Sometimes your budget may have been too unrealistic Moving money into other categories is totally acceptable It’s totally ok to go over budget just don’t make it a habit [11:43] Common apps you can use for budget Mint is great Budgeting can be difficult if you’re uncertain Many apps sync with all your accounts.
