Discover the hidden spiritual lessons in holiday tales—from Rudolph to the Yule Goat! --- Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/ This podcast episode explores the profound spiritual and cultural significance of holiday stories, particularly Christmas and Yule traditions. Charlie and Brian delve into the universal archetypes found in these narratives, such as the "child of light," miraculous births, and outcasts who prove their worth. They discuss classic tales like _Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer_, _A Charlie Brown Christmas_, and _Frosty the Snowman_, emphasizing themes of community, resilience, and personal growth. Modern stories like _Die Hard_ and _The Grinch_ are also examined for their deeper spiritual lessons, including the fight against toxic masculinity and the transformative power of redemption. The duo highlights how traditions, whether global or personal, emerge organically and foster a sense of belonging. They touch on Scandinavian Yule traditions like the Yule Goat and explore how contemporary stories continue to evolve, reflecting the challenges and needs of their time. The conversation underscores that storytelling is not only an art but a form of spiritual practice that shapes individuals and communities, helping them navigate life's challenges. The Yule Goat is an ancient Northern European symbol of the midwinter solstice, a time when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. The practice of dressing up like a horned goat for Christmas has many examples in Scandinavian history, though only echoes remain. Friend of the show and historian of religion Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen has for the past few years aimed to remake a new tradition. Inspired by animism, carneval, Krampus processions in the Alps and samba he has started a Yule Goat Parade in the center of Copenhagen which this year will take place on the 16th of December. We talk to him and mask actor Petter Madegård about the thoughts behind the parade, the old concept of beings of darkness bringing the light at the turning point of the year, and the importance of renegotiating your relationship with the absolute Other. This week on Wow! That's Not Normal, Chanelle & Jensen break down the insanely funny and silly story behind one of the most famous Yule Goat displays called The Gävle Goat. Now, why exactly are we discussing this? Well, it just so happens that every year during Christmas time, they build the dang thing, and it gets fricken destroyed. Typically, the goat is usually burned in various ways, but there's also been many other attempts at destroying it including someone who actually was able to steal the thing. This goat sounds pretty dang cursed if you ask us!

A far cry from the holiday you likely know, and possibly(?) love, our modern version of Christmas is rooted in paganism. You might be surprised to learn that underneath the surface of festive holiday cheer, December 25th has historically been a holiday synonymous with telling terrifying tales and advising children on how to avoid torture and being eaten. Oh, and mistletoe! Before it was used a shrubbery to trade lip spit with someone under, it was known for a far more nefarious purpose…murder! Check out this winter holiday episode of Death Party for the history of Christmas' much more sinister origins, complete with introductions to Krampus, Frau Perchta, and the ever-popular Yule Goat. The Great American Urban Legend

Emerging from Austrian Alpine folklore is a half-goat, half-man demon. He carries a wicker basket or burlap sack and can be heard lurking in the shadows by the tell-tale jingle of copper chains and shackles that adorn his waist and arms. His long, thick fur - brown and black - cascading down from his head to his ankles limns his muscles, corded and taught from years and years of hard labor in the depths of hades. Giant, spiraling horns breach his skull and careen upward, a fiendish stretch toward the heavens. He walks on great, cloven hooves that click and clack as he stalks his victims, striking fear in the hearts of all who hear. Claws born of fire and sharpened by hate - made for rending flesh - clasp leather whip and birch rod. These for penance and pain. A serpent’s tongue, long and pointed, flicks about tasting the panic and dread of his prey. And eyes so black, the black of his soul, peer to and fro, ever searching… ever seeking those that he might punish.According to legend, Krampus is the son of Hel… HEL… not HELL. Hel is the daughter of the trickster god, Loki, and the Norse goddess of Niflheim - the underworld. These Norse gods were revered and worshipped in pagan Norse religions for centuries. Krampus was not known as he is today during this time. Instead, he would often manifest as a Yule Goat, a pagan Norse figure traditionally associated with the Winter Solstice. It wasn’t until somewhere in the 15th or 16th century when Christianity began to gain popularity in Europe and beyond - Post-Inquisition, The Crusades and Criticism of Corruption that Germany and Austria’s YuleTide celebrations started to become less and less about Yuletide and the Yule Goat and became more focused on Christmas and a much cheerier YuleTide character, Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas of Myra, yes a real-life person, was sainted in 800 AD and is known as Nicholas the Wonderworker due to his generosity and legendary habit of secretly giving gifts. Jay and Zee with Jerry Nordun take a look at three countries and how they celebrate Christmas. Japan is very interesting. Rather than gathering around the table for a turkey dinner, families head out to their local Kentucky Fried Chicken. The tradition began in 1974 after a wildly successful marketing campaign called "Kurisumasuniwakentakkii!" or "Kentucky for Christmas!" One to the Philippines where the city of San Fernando holds LigliganParul (or Giant Lantern Festival) featuring dazzling parols (lanterns) that symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. Each parol consists of thousands of spinning lights that illuminate the night sky. The festival has made San Fernando the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines."Finally to Sweden where The Yule Goat has been a Swedish Christmas symbol dating back to ancient pagan festivals. However, in 1966, the tradition got a whole new life after someone came up with the idea to make a giant straw goat, now referred to as the Gävle Goat.
