The mission of law & disorder is to expose, agitate and build a new world where all of us can thrive. But how do we get there? How do we build a world many of us have only seen in our dreams? That's where we believe the artists come in. So, each week we feature an artist, holding down a weekly residency with us, helping us to imagine a different, more liberated world. This week's Resistance in Residence Artist is French-Caribbean, singer, bandleader, and bassist, Adi Oasis, whose music brings out the sounds of vintage soul, funk and disco, with a modern vibe. Chuck enters May with yet another ski injury (or two), just like the one he got at the start of April - the mountain beat him up. But what compels him to return again and get back on the mountain? Inspired by the tremendous beauty of Mammoth Mountain, the destination of his latest ski adventure, he cooks up an FSQ episode that aims to make a metaphor out of the big mountains through music: Mountains represent our challenges that we must push through. This episode runs through tunes carrying the title "Mountains" including several northern soul stompers, an epic 10 minute Prince remix, and mountaineering tunes by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yello, and The Vision (Ben Wesbeech and Kon). The third hour has fresh burners from new releases by The Illustrious Blacks, 79.5, Yuksek, B.J. Smith, A Man Called Adam, Adi Oasis and many more. Tune into new broadcasts of FSQ, Thursday from 3 - 6 PM EST / 8 - 11 PM GMT.For more info visit: https://thefaceradio.com/fsq///Dig this show? Welcome to the latest episode of Bops & Bangers, the GRRRL Music podcast where we dive deep into the world of female-driven music. In this episode, we're talking about the cult of Taylor Swift and the phenomenon that she has become. We'll explore how her fans have elevated her to an almost mythological status and what it means to be a "Swiftie". We'll also take a look at the world of big arena shows and how female artists have been taking over the stage in recent years. From Beyonce to Lady Gaga, we'll examine how these performers are creating experiences that go beyond just the music. But it's not all about the big names. We're also spotlighting some rising stars in the industry. We'll introduce you to Billy Raffoul, whose unique sound is a blend of blues, rock, and folk. We'll also discuss meija, whose soulful voice and introspective lyrics are making waves in the indie-pop scene. Plus, we'll talk about Mimi Webb, whose emotional ballads are resonating with audiences around the world. And we'll introduce you to Adi Oasis, an up-and-coming artist who is making a name for herself with her dynamic vocals and catchy hooks. So, whether you're a die-hard Taylor Swift fan or just looking for some new artists to add to your playlist, this episode of Bops & Bangers has something for everyone. On y revient. As broadcast November 10, 2022 with plenty of admiration for the keys. Tonight we begin marking the 20th anniversary of Johnny Griffith's passing. Griffith was the long-time man on the ivory for The Funk Brothers, who were Motown's in-house band, and thus you have the passing of a man whose licks made soul what it was in the golden days. Lots of new soul to explore in our Sampled funk and soul first half tonight, with tunes from The Winston Brothers, The Allergies, Object Heavy, Avantdale Bowling Club, Allen Stone, and so many other worthies. Dan Lloyd joins us once again for our AMPED rock ruckus after that, with highlights from Gina Birch, Narrow Head, and David Knudson, and a tribute to the wonderful Mimi Parker, the drummer and vocalist for Low who succumbed to cancer this week and will be most dearly missed.#feelthegravityTracklist (st:rt)Part I (00:00)Marvin Gaye – I Heard It Through The GrapevineThe Winston Brothers – Free RideThe Allergies – Sometimes I WonderTurtlenecks feat Miss Rachelle Jeanty – Break FreeObject Heavy – For The BetterAdi Oasis – Get it Got it Part II (31:25)The Harlem Gospel Travelers – Do You Know The ManAvantdale Bowling Club – Rent 2 HighThe Green with Allen Stone – Coming Home (remix)Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad – Jax Is BusyGhost Funk Orchestra – PrismFela Kuti – Ariya Part III (63:26)Gina Birch – Wish I Was YouWeird Al Yankovic – Now You KnowNOFX – Punk Rock ClichéCreeper – Ghost BrigadeLow – Just Make It Stop Part IV (96:19)Everclear – Year of the TigerNarrow Head – Moments of ClarityDavid Knudson – No Ways No Means (ft. Adeline - "Stages (feat. KAMAUU)" from the 2021 album Adi Oasis on Unity Records. French Caribbean singer and bassist Adeline makes funk-fueled soul that's as joyful as it is political. The Paris-born, New York-based artist might be best known for fronting the nu-disco band Escort but broke out on her own in 2018 with her debut self-titled album. In it, she tackles difficult subjects that are close to her heart, such as immigration and feminism, while still making your booty bounce. For her third record in almost as many years, Adeline channels the fear and confusion brought on by the pandemic but reveals those ideas in a groovy, dancefloor-ready way. The record's opening track and our Song of the Day, “Stages,” blends a surfy guitar riff, funky bass line, and an exuberant verse from New York rapper KAMAUU for a song that touches on the challenges the music industry brings. Adeline says this about the song: “Stages” is about my journey in the music business as a young black woman, but it's relevant to indie artists in general, and everyone who's hustling to reach their goals. I've had many experiences of not being taken seriously, of people making me feel like I'm not good enough, and of being hit on by fake aspiring collaborators who turned out to have ulterior motives. ‘Stages' is my self-affirming chant reminding me that ‘I'm not going to take sh*t from anybody anymore. I got this. I trust myself'. Having KAMAUU on the song felt perfect because not only is he talented beyond words, but he's also been a great advocate for me as a female producer.” “Stages is also a reminder to myself that no matter where I am in my musical journey, I'm right where I'm supposed to be. When people discover a “new artist”, they often don't realize they're actually seeing the result of years and years of hard work. And while it's tempting as an artist to compare ourselves to other artists who might seem to be having more success, every stage is a win -- a necessary step towards the next one. There are so many different ways of measuring success, and every artist's journey is unique. I get to create this story in the way that works for me.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
