This week it is all about Southeast Asia on the ASPI pod. To kick off, Gatra Priyandita speaks to Thomas Parks from The Asia Foundation about geopolitics in Southeast Asia. While there's a lot of attention on the US-China rivalry and its implications for the region, Gatra and Tom focus on the different regional dynamics in Southeast Asia, including ASEAN, regional challenges and the relationships that countries like Australia and Japan have in the region and how they have changed. Zooming in on Indonesia, Gatra Priyandita speaks to Natalie Sambhi about Indonesian politics and foreign policy and Australia's relationship with Indonesia. They discuss Indonesia's vision for the world and how it aligns with Australia's, the roles both countries can play in shaping international rules and norms and how to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, including through education. The Vamana Avatar of Vishnu ,comparatively speaking,is less dicussed about and the temples for Vamana and Vishnu revealing himself as Trivikrama are limited. Vamana's famius temple from where He took His step to measure the world given to Him by Mahabali is in Kerala and there is a Temple for Trivikrama ,when Vishnu measured the world is in Kanchipuram,Tamil Nadu. The incident narrated about Vamana Avatar is this. King Mahabali ,Grandson of Prahlada and son of Virochana was found harassing the Dhanavas and Lord Vishnu took the Avatar as Vamana,Dwarf to discipline him. Mahabali, because of his pious nature and the boons he had received, was difficult to vanquish by any done by warfare. So,when Mahabali performed a Yagnya,Lord Vishnu,in the form of a Dwarf,Vamana took part in the Yagnya. It is mandatory to gift Brahmins, the Realized ones,at the end of the Yagnya. When Vamana, the Dwarf, asked for Three Feet of Land measured by his feet,Mahabali gave him the gift despite the warning by his Guru Sukracharya. Vamana,it is interpreted, measured the Earth with his first step, the sky with the second and as there was nothing else was available to measure for the third step,Mahabali offered his head as the third step and Vamana pushed Mahabali to Patala Loka and gran.ted him the boon to visit his people once a year. This visitation by Mahabali is celebrated as Onam Festival in Kerala every year even today. Now,Indian texts have three meanings,at least. One is the word to word textual meaning, The second the philosophical interpretation and the third, Historical/esoteric/tantric interpretation. In this incident word by word interpretation narrates the story and conveys that, however mighty one may be,if he is overwhelmed by power and resorts to unrighteous conduct he will be ruined. If he has bee pious,Divine Grace shall prevent total ruin. At the philosophical level, one who is steeped in Ahankaara ,the feeling of ‘I' and attachments to power and riches would be blessed by Divine Grace to remember his Sattivic Swabhava or nature and realize the Reality. I am providing the historical interpretation below. Kerala was a part of Tamil kingdom in Lemuria and Lemurians were referred to as the Southerners,Dravida and were reported to be in Patala, down the earth. The territories we call as south east Asia Australia were in the south. One must remember that the landmass of the earth was different then. Lemuria and MU territories encompassed these areas. Ramayana and Sumerian texts state that Lemurians lived there. Shiva, who predates Sanatana Dharma was in the south. Shiva's trishul marks are found as Nazca lines in Peru. The Incas,Mayas were the descendants of the Tamils. https://ramanan50.wordpress.com/2015/02/01/incas-of-peru-ancestors-tamils-celebrate-makara-sankaranti/ You may read more articles on these subjects by following the related articles in the link provided above. Indra and Virochana( father of Bali) are found in Bali. Vedas are called Catur Veda Sira in Bali Ancient Brahmin Village is in Bali Moving to Patala Loka by Bali means that Bali moved further south or down to the areas we now know as SouthEast Asia,Asia-Pacific. The Tolltechs,Incas,Mayas have a close link with Tamils/Keralites. Spanish has affinity to Tamil. ‘Prahlada's son was Virochana and his son was Bali (Mahabali). When Bali was performing Yagna under supervision of his guru Sukracharya, Vishnu came as Vamana(dwarf or kid) and asked for donation of ‘three pada Bhoomi.' This is wrongly interpreted as 3 foot land. Infact it is 3 quarters of Land (pada here is similar to nakshatra pada in vedic astrology, where each nakshatra is divided into 4 padas [quarters]). At that time, Bali was ruling over Asia, Europe and Africa. So he donated these 3 human inhabitated lands to Vamana and decided to leave. Vamana was satisfied with Bali and gave him a boon of https://ramanisblog.in/2016/12/26/mahabali-founded-bali-discovered-americas-polynesia-south-eas --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message

Dallas and Shanthi discuss Shanthi's fresh take on 21st-century migratory experiences and temporality from her innovative study of young Asian migrants' lives in Australia's cities and regions. The book shows how migration has reshaped lived experiences of time and place for middle-class young people moving between Asia and the West for work, study and lifestyle opportunities. Through a new conceptual framework of ‘chronomobilities,' which looks at ‘time-regimes' and ‘time-logics', Robertson demonstrates how migratory pathways can profoundly affect the temporalities of everyday life, from the timelines of career trajectories to the tempos of urban living. Drawing on extensive ethnographic material, Robertson deepens our understanding of the multifaceted relationship between migration, place and time. Shanthi and Dallas also talk about Exit West in this conversation, a book by Mohsin Hamid. Shanthi calls Hamid's book ‘almost speculative fiction', that follows a young couple who escape civil unrest in their unnamed city through magical doors that begin to appear, allowing people to move instantly to different cities around the world. Exit West follows these characters as they emerge into an alien and uncertain future, struggling to hold on to each other, to their past, to the very sense of who they are. Shanthi says this book is ‘only lightly speculative' and can be read as a powerful commentary on contemporary migration and borders. And if you like this discussion, Dallas also talked with Shanthi on ABC Radio National's The Philosopher's Zone, see Chronomobilities. Join us for a series of fascinating conversations about some of the most interesting books about cities and urban life. Author Bio Dr Shanthi Robertson is an Associate Professor at the School of Humanities and Communication Arts and an Institute Fellow at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University. Host Fenella Kernebone, Head of Programming, Sydney Ideas at the University of Sydney Interviewed by Dallas Rogers, Senior Lecturer, School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Sydney.
Celia @ Junk LDN spent most of her 20's travelling Asia & Australia spending many months living & working in little bars across Cambodian beaches for local families. It was here she began to see first hand the effects of plastic waste on the ocean After learning that the fast fashion brands she had been buying her bikinis from were exploiting their workers & destroying the nature she loved so much, she decided to start her own swimwear brand. One that was ethical & planet - friendly but still colourful & tons of fun! Being able to support a developing country was close to Celia's heart after her time spent in Asia. After visiting Bali several times, she found the perfect factory that treated their workers well & specialised in eco - friendly fabrics made from recycled bottles and fishing nets Together they have created a playful beachwear brand that doesn't harm the planet In this episode we discuss : Celia's first launch of swimwear during a worldwide pandemic & travel restrictions How the launch felt behind the scenes vs online The power of your language when talking about your brand in a negative or positive way What kept Celia motivated in the height of winter LINKS MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE YOU CAN KEEP IN TOUCH WITH CELIA VIA THE LINKS BELOW: https://junkldn.com https://www.instagram.com/junkldn LISTEN You can listen by clicking through to Apple Podcast here Remember to hit the subscribe button so you don't miss an episode! contact me If you'd like to find out more about working together on your brand, click here

#39 From Miss Asia Australia Beauty Pageant to Acting and Modelling-Natasha Cheng I first taught Natasha when she was a 15 year old girl at Willoughby Girls High School. Hard to believe that was 12 years ago already! If having two degrees of graphic design and performing arts degrees is not interesting for you, you should hear about her story of competing in 2014 Miss Asia Australia beauty pageant and the path of perusing an acting/modelling career. She is also generously giving tips for people who want to go into this direction. “Just put yourself out there and go for it!” Sites to check out for people who want to pursue acting or modelling: https://www.starnow.com.au/ Fb groups for acting and modelling. She was with Stardom Agency and now I’m with Middleman Agency. I have also been with extras agencies which are great too such as: MCTV iSpry Voom

Connect with me: https://thesoccersidelines.com/connect/What are solidarity payments, why do we have them, and how do they work? Do they work at all in the United States? Let's talk through a use case.In this episode, we share some recent news, then jump into the concept of solidarity payments. Specifically, we talk through the case of DeAndre Yedlin, featuring Crossfire Premiere, FIFA, USSF, and the MLS. At the end of this episode, I hope that the concept of solidarity payments (and training compensation) are a little more clear. May 27, 2015 - Shah Alam, Malaysia: Tottenham Hotspurs play the Malaysian Selection soccer team in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium in Malaysia. The English Premier League football club is on their Asia-Australia tour.COVID-19 Impact on the GameWPSL and ODP have both suspended their summer programming & are looking forward to the Fall. Expect to see more delayed openings and Summer impact across the US. As the country re-opens, it will likely be uneven and state or regionally based. The game of soccer is a social game. Not only do we have 22 players on the field, but we have active and very social sidelines. Part of the joy of the game is playing and chatting with others in concentrated fields and sideline environments. It'll be impossible to do social distancing with players and nearly impossible to social distance on the sidelines. Kids are at home and many are not working out regularly. A big question in my mind as a coach, is how can we keep our kids engaged and active? This is when super coaching and parental support can play a big role. Please: support the show and join our community as a Patron through my Patreon pageWhat is Training Compensation? From MLCSoccer.com: "Under the FIFA Regulations, when a player registers as a professional for the first time in a country other than the one where he did his training, the club with which he registers is responsible for paying Training Compensation to every club that contributed to his training, starting from the season of his 12th birthday through the season of his 21st birthday. Additionally, Training Compensation is due on a player's subsequent international transfer through the season of his 23rd birthday to his immediately prior professional club."These exist as a way to incentivize youth clubs to do their best at developing players, to invest in the development environment, and to earn some rewards for the effort. The US system is largely paid for by parents, sponsorships, and charitable donations. Is it fair for US-based clubs to also get training compensation and/or solidarity payments? Is this "double dipping" or getting paid twice to develop youth, or is this a system we should consider embracing - possibly phasing out high family costs? What are Solidarity Payments in US Soccer? From MLSsoccer.com: "Under the FIFA Regulations, any time that a professional player is transferred (whether on a temporary or on a permanent basis) from a club in one FIFA member association (i.e., a federation) to a club in another federation during the course of his contract, up to five percent of the transfer fee is to be withheld and paid by the club receiving the player proportionally to the club(s) involved in that player's training during the years between his 12th and 23rd birthdays. Unlike Training Compensation, which is only paid for players who have not yet reached the end of their age-23 season, Solidarity Payments will be due for the duration of a player's professional career, any time he is transferred between federations while under contract and a transfer fee is paid."What are Your Thoughts? This is an issue with lots of arguments and interesting positions. Any time money is at the center, things like Training Compensation and Solidarity payments are going to be contentious. Is it time to embrace a more European style of funding the game? Should we consider instead Norway's model?

I had an opportunity to attend the International Justice Mission's Liberate Global Conference in Frisco, Texas. This was IJM's 20th year celebration of the work they have done to help end human trafficking around the world. This Global Conference had IJM partners from the continents of Africa, Asia Australia, North America, and South America. You'll get to hear several interviews I was able to have while hanging about in the halls of the conference; as well as audio from speakers who gave a bit of their testimony being able to work with IJM within the last 20 years. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/elifesmoments/support

In an era of ‘planetary urbanisation’ the making and moving of urban cultures becomes a global process, but also one firmly embedded in place. Creating the 21st century city requires new ways to understand culture, place and sustainability at a time defined by dynamic flows of people and ideas. Taking cues from Bijoy Jain’s MPavilion 2016, this MTalks panel featured the shining lights of Australian academia on urbanism and kicks-off our November program that focuses on creative cities, urbanism and culture. This panel chat covered critical issues and ideas for contemporary urban change in an urbanising South Asia, and, at the same time, explores how a South Asian diaspora in Australian suburbia go through the process of making place and belonging. Hear back from Professor Peter Newman of Curtin University; Dr Michele Lobo of Deakin University; Dr Harry Fischer of La Trobe University; and Dr Trevor Hogan of La Trobe University for this MTalks at MPavilion.
