The two men conquered human flight, but the Wright brothers’ journey to success was never easy. Despite countless failures, ridicule, money woes, and serious injury to one of them, the brothers weren’t stopped by the trials they faced. As Orville Wright observed, “No bird soars in a calm.” The idea, according to biographer David McCullough, means that adversity can “often be exactly what you need to give you a lift higher.” Said McCullough, “Their joy was not getting to the top of the mountain. Their joy was climbing the mountain.” The apostle Peter taught a similar spiritual principle to the persecuted early church. He told them, “Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you” (1 Peter 4:12). This wasn’t a denial of suffering’s pain. Peter knew that hope in Christ grows our trust in God. This is especially true when we suffer for being a believer in Jesus, as those early Christians did. Peter wrote to them, “Rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed” (v. 13). He went on, “If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you” (v. 14). As the Wright Brothers’ character was hailed by their biographer, may others see God’s loving character at work in us. He uses our adversity to raise us to new heights.

The story of Jacob is well-known to students of the Bible. What may not be as well known is why God would bless a man whose character, at first, was so clearly out of sorts with godliness. Today we'll learn about the path the Lord used to bring Jacob to a place of faith, trust and obedience. Join us in this face-paced look at Genesis 28, which also will skim Genesis 25, 26, & 27! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1.    When was there a time in your life where you consciously made a life decision in light of your standing as a member of God's people? What was the outcome of that decision?  2.    Take a moment to evaluate your personal commitment to the kingdom of God. On a scale of 1 to 10, how committed are you to reflecting God's kingdom now and investing in God's kingdom to come? Why did you choose that number?  3.    Why do you think that the Lord allowed Isaac and Rebekah to not be able to have children until later in life? What impact would this (or should this) have on the spiritual lessons they would teach their children? Did it? 4.    How would you describe the family dynamics in Isaac's household? What kind of problems did their favoritism create? Who was responsible to rectify these problems? What are some possible reasons for why these problems weren't properly addressed?  5.    In Genesis 25:23, what was the Lord's promise to Rebekah about the twins she was bearing? How is this promise important as the story of Jacob's life unfolds?  6.    What were God's promises to Isaac in Genesis 26:3 and 4? How was this similar to the Lord's promises to Abraham? What would these promises also indicate about Isaac's role as the patriarch of his family? What would these promises mean for the role one of his sons would have over these future descendants?  7.    In Genesis 25:27-34, why do you think Esau sold his birthright to Jacob? Was this a true "sale"? Was the birthright his to "sell" anyway? How does this set the tone for the unraveling of Esau's role as firstborn?  8.    In Genesis 26:34-45, Esau marries two Hittite women. What significance might his marriage have on the direction of his leadership over the descendants of Abraham?  9.    Esau didn't cherish his birthright because he didn't cherish God's promises. If he did, what would that have looked like in his life? What does it look like, in our world today, to cherish God's promises and live in light of them? Why is this sometimes difficult to do?  10.    Although the study didn't address very much from Genesis 26, you have probably read it by now. As you reflect upon the events of Genesis 26, what do they show you about the quality of Isaac's faith? Why do you think his faith was like this?  11.    The Bible often reminds us that although we are to walk in God's ways, it's not to curry His favor, but rather to glorify Him. Both Abraham and Isaac show us that God uses imperfect people. Why do you think that is? What encouragement does this give you if and when you struggle in your walk?  Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! 'Birthright is tone-deaf': Why many young Jews don't want their free trip to Israel

Birthright Israel is celebrating 25 years of offering a free 10-day trip to Israel to every young Diaspora Jew with the hope of fighting assimilation. The celebrations include a $900 million fundraising campaign. But, as Haaretz Jewish World editor Judy Maltz told the Haaretz Podcast, their traditional mission and "fun in the sun" marketing campaign have become deeply problematic, given the battering of the image of the Jewish state in the eyes of many young people around the world. Instead of unaffiliated Jews, Maltz said, the programs are increasingly filled with participants who are "presumably already very much in touch with their Jewish identity," begging the question as to whether this is where hundreds of millions in Jewish philanthropic dollars and funding by the state of Israel should be going. On the podcast, Maltz discusses the reasons behind the shift, based on more than 30 interviews with Birthright participants, and those who chose not to go. Many of those interviewees, she reports "feel very distant from Israel. They feel very uncomfortable with its actions, especially over the past two years with what's happened in Gaza." Maltz also discusses a new and different trend she has reported on: trips to Israel by young leftist Jews who choose to spend their time off providing "protective presence" in West Bank Palestinian villages menaced by violent settlers. "Being on the ground is really the only way to bear witness," she was told by the young Americans camping out in the villages. Read more: Has Birthright Become a Toxic Brand? What if joy wasn't something you stumbled into… but something you practiced? Today's episode wraps up our 3-part series on spiritual power inspired by President Russell M. Nelson, and we're talking about one of the biggest spiritual misconceptions out there: If the gospel is a gospel of joy, then why does life feel so hard? Oh, friend. You're not alone. And it's not because joy is missing. It's because we don't know how to access it. Yet. In this episode we'll break that down. Here's what you'll learn: The real difference between "feeling good" and true joy (Hint: one numbs you, the other strengthens you.) Why joy requires redirection, not perfection (and how President Nelson modeled this masterfully—yes, through heartbreak). How boredom might actually be your biggest spiritual opportunity (and how to use that 5 minutes when your brain wants to scroll.) The simple, joyful way to "collect God's promises" — one verse at a time. Three real-life examples from scripture you can copy today: Isaiah 61 and binding your broken heart Enos and praying for people who've hurt you Alma the Younger and God hearing a parent's prayers No guilt. No forced positivity. Just real joy, the kind that grows your confidence in God and yourself. Big Takeaway Joy isn't something you wait for. Joy is something you collect, one promise at a time. When you gather God's promises, you gather spiritual power. Try This (Your Joy Challenge for the Week) Just once this week, when your brain defaults to scrolling or snacking from boredom, redirect.

Today's Headlines: The Trump administration released its 33-page National Security Strategy — immediately praised by the Kremlin — outlining U.S. “dominance” in the Americas, embracing Middle East leaders “as they are,” warning Europe of “civilizational erasure,” and boosting far-right movements there. It also shifts U.S. policy in Africa toward extracting “latent economic potential,” and says avoiding conflict with China is suddenly a “priority.” At the Reagan Defense Forum, Pete Hegseth declared the end of America's “utopian idealism,” saying the military should ditch democracy-building and climate concerns for “practical interests.” Sure, Pete. Israel, Qatar, and the U.S. met to build relations after Israel's strike in Doha it was, of course, hosted by Steve Witkoff — who, along with Jared Kushner, also had a long call with Zelensky about territory and “security guarantees.” Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear Trump's effort to end birthright citizenship, despite the Constitution spelling it out pretty clearly and Trump threw a fit after pardoned Democrat Henry Cuellar didn't switch parties, accusing him of “disloyalty” and claiming “God was very happy” with his pardon. In other news, the Jan. 5 pipe-bomb suspect is cooperating with the FBI and says he planted them to support Trump, RFK Jr.'s HHS and anti-vax panel voted to end universal Hep B shots at birth, disregarding the risks to infants, and the Netflix–Warner Bros. merger is in trouble, with the Trump administration favoring a sale to Trump-ally-owned Paramount instead. In this powerful message, I share a word the Lord gave me titled “Wrestling with the Tension of Becoming.” If you remember we shared on the  ⁨@EatDontCompete⁩  podcast a teaching on the same title, but let's just say this was a bit more in-depth. Drawing from Genesis 32:24–30, we follow Jacob's wrestle with God—his identity shift, his name change, and the tension that shaped his destiny. This message is for anyone who feels the weight of transition, transformation, spiritual tension, or the struggle between who you were and who God is calling you to be. I walk through: What are you really wrestling with? Have you encountered God in the middle of your tension? Does your tension hold a blessing? Has your name changed—but you're still answering to the old one? Are you walking in your spiritual birthright? I also share my own origin story—my childhood, abandonment, adoption, rebellion, endurance—and how God used every tension in my life to shape the call on my life. This message is both instructional and testimonial, a reminder that God still uses the least likely and builds miracles from messy beginnings. If you've ever wrestled with identity, calling, surrender, or transformation… this message will speak to you. God is still changing names, shifting destinies, and calling His people to become everything He ordained. Key Scripture: Genesis 32:24–30 Supporting passages: Genesis 25 • Genesis 28 • Genesis 35 • Genesis 46 • Genesis 27:36 • John 3 • John 17 • Galatians 3 Main Themes: – Wrestling with God – Spiritual tension – Identity in Christ – Name change in scripture – Birthright vs blessing – Calling, purpose, destiny – Transformation and spiritual growth – Becoming who God has called you to be   If this message blessed you, share it with someone who is in a season of becoming.

In this final reading of Chapter 11 from From Trauma to Trust: The Making of a Messenger, Nancy invites listeners into a piercing encounter with the justice of God, the truth about real forgiveness, and the power of the cross to resolve every deep conflict. This is more than a reading—it's a confrontation with the Esau Syndrome and the subtle ways bitterness, self-pity, and entitlement lure us into trading our birthright for counterfeit healing and temporary relief. Nancy doesn't soften the message—because real transformation doesn't come from sentimentality, but from letting Jesus Himself expose, forgive, and free us. Whether you're facing fresh wounds or decades of unresolved pain, this episode calls you to return to the one true fountain, take your controversy to the cross, and finally live free. As we continue in the Birthright or Bitterness series, this episode goes beyond emotional healing to expose how uncrucified independence, unresolved conflict, and false forms of forgiveness open the door to deception, torment, and spiritual stagnation. Nancy shares not just her personal story, but a prophetic message for the church—one that calls us to stop settling for lesser healing and step into the full justice, satisfaction, and freedom of the finished work of the cross. This is not about performance, it's about participation in Christ's life and love. If you are ready to stop nursing your wounds and start walking in your birthright, this episode is for you. This week, Ari Abramowitz, Jeremy Gimpel and The Israel Guys, break down Israel's historic move to overturn a 70-year-old Jordanian-era law, finally allowing Jews and those eligible under the Law of Return to purchase land in Judea and Samaria. We also examine shocking parallels between the recent National Guard shootings in Washington D.C. and violent assaults in Judea, where rioters attacked Jewish shepherds, injuring Israelis and stealing part of their flock. In addition, we question the credibility of the Palestinian Authority in light of ongoing foreign policy debates, including former President Trump's intentions to put them in charge of Gaza. This episode highlights the growing disconnect between media narratives and the realities on the ground in Israel. We close with insights from this week's Torah portion, reminding listeners to stay rooted in truth, faith, and the land of Israel. Tune in, stay informed, and stand with Israel.

God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham. He blessed him and gave him the promise of land and seed, which would go on to become a great nation. Abraham passes on his possessions and all of these promises as an inheritance to his son Isaac, and Isaac to his son Jacob/Israel. But after Jacob/Israel dies, people get confused about how this inheritance, which includes the promises of seed, land, and kings, is passed on. A careful study of the biblical record can clear up a lot of confusion, specifically regarding the land of Israel, and who should lay claim to it. 1950s were a tumultuous time for Mormon polygamists. Not only did police jail many for polygamy, but there were Mormon Fundamentalist Schisms. Many groups including Joseph Musser and the LeBaron families split apart. Jacob Vidrine of the Church of the Firstborn gives more details. This schism not only severed the nascent Church of the Firstborn into two distinct movements but also cemented radically different interpretations of priesthood authority that traced back to Nauvoo. From Mexico to Utah: Quest for the Kingdom Following the death of their father, Alma Dayer LeBaron (Dayer), who had claimed a unique authority line through Benjamin F. Johnson, the family faced a succession crisis. Joel LeBaron and his brothers (including Verlin and Floren) were primarily based in Mexico and had initially affiliated themselves with the Allred Group (AUB), which was the Salt Lake-based faction of the larger Woolley fundamentalist movement after the 1950s split. In 1955, Joel and his brothers traveled to Utah specifically to request funding from the Allred Council to establish a United Order in Mexico. While staying in Utah, they interacted with their brother, Ross Wesley LeBaron, the second oldest son, who had been ministering separately in the Utah area. Ross's Vision: The Higher Church Ross had received a commission from his father in 1950 to carry on the “patriarchal work”. His theology provided a unique perspective in the fundamentalist landscape, teaching that the Church of the Firstborn was not merely a holding pattern for the “out-of-order” LDS Church, but rather a “higher church above the Church of Jesus Christ”. Ross argued that the goal was not to “fall back into the church” but to “advance into the church of the firstborn,” emphasizing the higher principles of the patriarchal order restored by Moses, Elias, and Elijah in the Kirtland Temple. Ross converted his visiting brothers, Joel and Floren, “back to believing in their father’s authority line” and the patriarchal priesthood. Excited, the brothers decided to formally organize a new church5. The September Organization and Contested Authority On September 21, 1955, Ross, Joel, and Floren gathered for an organizational meeting that established the Church of the Firstborn of the Fullness of Times. The minutes of this meeting articulated the specific authority lineage claimed by the family: Joseph Smith passed patriarchal keys to Benjamin F. Johnson, who passed them to Alma LeBaron (Dayer), who conferred them on his sons. In this initial organization: Ross Wesley LeBaron was sustained as the head patriarch, holding the keys and calling received from their father. Ross emphasized that “the honor is in the work, not the title,” focusing on the substance of the calling rather than merely claiming specific offices. Joel LeBaron was ordained to the office of president of the Church of the Firstborn of the Fullness of Times. Floren LeBaron was set apart as a counselor. Ross claimed he ordained both Joel and Floren as patriarchs1012. However, this unity was fleeting. Joel's Claim to the One Mighty and Strong Within approximately a week of the organization, Joel decided to split from Ross. Joel sought a higher, incontrovertible claim to authority to override Ross’s position as the patriarch holding the keys. Joel traveled up Farmington Canyon and claimed to receive a revelation or a theophany. He claimed that “no fewer than… 17 or 18 different past prophets” appeared to him on the mountain. Crucially, these messengers allegedly appointed Joel as “the one mighty and strong”. This claim directly targeted Ross’s earlier teachings; Ross had claimed the birthright of Joseph Smith and described his own work as merely “preparatory work until the one mighty and strong came”. By claiming this specific title, Joel effectively trumped Ross’s foundational claim and secured his own undisputed position as the highest authority. The dramatic revelation led to a swift separation, with Ross remaining in Utah and Joel returning to Mexico, where he would successfully grow his branch of the Church of the Firstborn of the Fullness of Times to several thousand members, emphasizing a restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ structure (complete with a Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and a High Council), rather than Ross’s focus on the higher patriarchal order. ——————————————————————————– In essence, the split between Ross and Joel LeBaron illustrates a fundamental tension in fundamentalist authority: the conflict between inheriting authority (Ross, the Birthright, the Patriarchal Keys) versus receiving new, definitive revelation (Joel, the Theophany, the One Mighty and Strong). In this episode, Mark Bell, Nsima, and guest Marshall Jones unpack a spicy claim making the rounds: “When you're a good athlete and you're Black, that's your birthright.” We push past hot-takes to ask what really shapes performance—genetics, culture, environment, reps, or all of the above? Along the way we hit stereotype threat, why “raw talent” can be a backhanded compliment, how music/rhythm cultures translate to movement, and why focusing on work you can do beats obsessing over gifts you can't control.Follow Marshall Jones: @marshalldavisjonesCHAPTERS:00:00 - Intro02:10 - Reacting to Mike Israetel05:52 - Understanding Stereotype Threat11:36 - Success: Environment vs. Genetics17:49 - The Role of Genetics in Success20:10 - Words and Mindset Impact27:40 - Essential Equipment for Success28:28 - Interview with Mike Israetel28:54 - Your Body's Potential29:18 - Analyzing Gordon Ryan's Athleticism30:10 - Defining the Word “Athlete”32:40 - Gordon Ryan's Jiu Jitsu System41:25 - Learning to Dance: A Process43:50 - The Biological Benefits of Music48:36 - Methylene Blue Benefits51:54 - Exploring Unfair Advantages55:43 - Genetics and Racial Factors1:00:50 - Environmental Influences on Success1:03:16 - Expanding the Gene Pool1:04:15 - Was Steve Nash Born Gifted?1:05:48 - Key Takeaways for the Audience1:11:53 - Outro

In this powerful episode, Nancy turns our attention to Hebrews 12 and the great cloud of witnesses who endured unimaginable hardship yet remained faithful. She challenges us to stop measuring life by what others have done to us—and instead look to what Christ has done for us. Rather than living distracted by wounds, bitterness, and unrealistic expectations, we are called to run our race with endurance, with our eyes locked on Jesus. This message cuts deep into the victim mindset, entitlement, and self-pity that keep us from accessing the strength, justice, and forgiveness already made available through the Cross. This is a call to leave the demanding line behind and take your place in the receiving line—where true birthright is found. Thanks for Listening! In today's episode, Nancy continues confronting the beast of bitterness and how it wreaks havoc on the mind, blinds us to our inheritance in Christ, and enslaves us to self-indulgent appetites. This is not just about hard circumstances or unfair people—it's about what happens when we stand in the demanding line, expecting God or others to pay what we think is owed. Nancy draws a striking contrast between entitlement and inheritance, reminding us that our birthright as sons is received, not earned or demanded. If you feel worn out, bitter, or locked in patterns of emotional chaos, this episode will call you out of victimhood and into ruling and reigning with the Father, not over others—but over yourself.
