Bitten Jonsson  Bitten is a Registered Nurse since 1973, worked with addiction medicine since 1987 and sugar addiction since 1993. Developed a Holistic Addiction Treatment model, worked with group treatment for many years. She has been teaching and training professionals since 2012.  Bitten is a recovering alcoholic and her understanding of addiction has been a 26 year journey. She started to learn about addiction in the 70s when she commenced her recovery from alcohol addiction. She fell in love with addiction medicine. She learnt that those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction who also smoke and eat junk food have a higher risk of relapsing. After this ‘light bulb' moment, she promptly quit smoking but would treat herself with chocolate and ice cream. She gained a lot of weight but she was also very tired. She was told she was a food addict and set out to learn more. She started a group in 1995 and helped those with food addiction deal with the addiction. The low carb movement started in 2005 in Sweden. Bitten was told she was mentioned in a book. The low carb sentiment is that if you stay low carb you can be healthy but it doesn't take into consideration that some are “Food Addicts”, who can stop eating the problematic foods but can't stay stopped. Drawing on her understanding of addiction, she was able to translate this to food and food addictions.  Similarly to alcohol, social users of food can have a small piece of chocolate and then stop. Whereas harmful users of food are emotional eaters, comfort eaters. Food addicts have a different brain, they are biochemically unique. They don't respond biochemically the same way as social users and harmful users. They are the most sensitive people. Bitten developed a tool to differentiate between a harmful user and an addict. How much you eat and how often is not a criteria for addiction.  She teaches, trains and certifies them in the sugar instrument.  Understanding  that addiction is chronic, progressive re-lapsable and deadly illness if you don't arrest it. You don't have a chance if you don't embrace that. First you have to understand the illness, then you have to rewire the brain.  This is through eating the right types of food – such as the keto way of eating, with clean products, good foods, good fats and you have to figure out the fuel mix.   Eating the right types of food minimises the chemical release in the brain.  These brain chemicals, particularly those that release dopamine is important.  Increasing tolerance to dopamine is built up over time with the types and amount of food that is eaten.  You eat more and more even though you feel miserable. It gives an initial high then it makes you depressed, moody, sad, unpleasant, tired, nothing is fun and you lose all your energy. You are not clinically depressed, you have lost energy on a cellular level.   Bitten says get the addiction under control first for at least two years before doing any therapy. Changing the way she eats, she has become less swollen and able to move more. She has increased her energy and feels better now she is 67 than in her fifties. Bitten is like a Ferrari, she has to fuel up. Food is her medicine and fuel. She makes sure she gets her nutritional needs met.  Link to Show Notes on Website https://fabulouslyketo.com/podcast/216 Bitten’s Book Sockerbomben – i din hjärna : bli fri från ditt sockerberoende – Bitten Jonsson https://amzn.to/2IPsoVu Bitten’s Top Tip If you suspect you have an addiction you need to deal with the addiction first. In this episode of the Food Junkies Podcast, Dr. Vera Tarman and Molly Painschab sit down with Anna Fruehling, co-founder of SUGARx Global and a powerful voice in the food addiction recovery space. Anna shares her personal journey through addiction, recovery, and her mission to help others overcome their struggles with sugar and ultra-processed food addiction. With over 35 years of recovery from drug addiction and eight years clean from food addiction, Anna brings a wealth of experience, both personal and professional, to the conversation.  Key Takeaways:  Anna's Journey to Recovery    - Anna's battle with addiction began in childhood, growing up in San Francisco, where she was introduced to drugs at an early age. Her journey to recovery started at 17, but it took many years for her to recognize the role of sugar addiction in her life.    - Anna's "aha moment" came after hearing Bitten Jonsson speak about sugar as a gateway drug, sparking a realization of the connection between her sugar consumption and addictive behaviors.  Healing through Keto & Primal Eating:    - As a certified health coach and primal health advocate, Anna shares how lowering her carbohydrate intake and adopting a keto lifestyle brought peace to her mind and body.    - She credits keto for helping manage her autoimmune conditions, keeping her away from medications for years, and improving her overall mental and physical health.  The Creation of Sugar X Global:    SUGARx Global was founded by Anna, Judy, and Dave to provide group-based support for those battling food addiction. Anna emphasizes the power of community and the effectiveness of group recovery over individual coaching.    - The platform offers structured support, including the **Recovery Accelerator Program**, an 18-week course designed to help individuals deeply explore their addiction and develop sustainable strategies for long-term recovery. Philosophy of CARE:    - Anna introduces the CARE philosophy—focused on **Compassion, Accountability, Recovery Protection, and Education**. This philosophy guides the Sugar X approach, helping clients protect their recovery, plan for future challenges, and continue their education in addiction science. Mindset Shift for Recovery:    - Recovery isn't just about abstinence; it's about changing your mindset. Anna stresses that understanding the science behind addiction, recognizing automatic negative thoughts, and creating a personalized recovery journey is key to long-lasting success.  The Power of Group Support:    - Anna prefers working with groups rather than individuals, as group dynamics create a powerful environment where honesty, shared experiences, and collective growth can flourish. Anna's Book - An Altered Spirit:    - Anna's book, *An Altered Spirit: The Twelve Steps of Ebenezer Scrooge*, parallels the classic tale of Scrooge's transformation and the 12-step recovery process. Proceeds from the book support children of alcoholics. David received his Master's in Clinical Nutrition from Ohio State University in  2012 and worked as a registered dietitian for ten years in Critical Care, Bariatric Surgery and elderly care. He was also the dietician who designed the abstinent food plan for the food addiction residential program at Renascent preCovid.  While a dietician, David received his food addiction training at INFACT  (International Food Addiction and Counselling Training) in 2017 and since that time, has been the under study to Bitten Jonsson; he is currently a faculty member for  her Holistic Medicine for Addiction program. Of special interest to us, David had his own battles with sugar and grain, and like many of us, has identified other struggles, namely coffee, screens, alcohol and more.    David is coauthor of the groundbreaking book 'The Fix for Cravings',  along with Cynthia Myers Morison. He is a vocal advocate for understanding Addiction Interaction Disorder, championing the idea that addiction is a singular beast with many masks. His favourite analogy is “ Switching outlets is like  switching  seats on the Titanic: the ship is still sinking!' Thus his treatment is focused on changing the dynamic of addiction itself. Melanie Martin is a registered Nutritional Therapist, having studied at The Institute for Optimum Nutrition in Richmond London. The principle around which she was trained is that of Functional Medicine. Mel looks for the underlying causes of health issues rather than treating symptoms. Those underlying issues could be lifestyle, genetics, diet, existing drug treatments, or a whole host of things. Since she qualified and started practicing more than 10 years ago, Mel has become increasingly curious about psychology as an underlying cause or co-factor. She studied at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating in Colorado to try to understand more about this area of interest, and why some of us, Mel included, have these lifelong, often secret, and shame-filled, battles with food choices. Mel has also studied metabolic health extensively and has completed the Nutritional Network Low Carb Healthy Fat training for practitioners and many Continuing Professional Development hours. Mel heard Bitten Jonsson speak about food addiction in 2021, something she had intuited and had often heard clients allude to, so this was a real “missing piece” moment for her. She consequently completed Bitten's SUGAR and Holistic Medicine Addiction training. She most recently completed a 15-week introductory course in counseling/psychotherapy and her next learning/development step as a practitioner is to train professionally as a counselor/psychotherapist. Today, Clarissa, Mel, and I talk about the following: Mel's Personal/Professional Journey What are some common hormones such as estrogen & progesterone and why do they fluctuate? Bitten is a registered nurse who was first introduced to addiction medicine 36 years ago and has been working in the area of food addiction and sugar addiction for 27 years ago. As she acknowledged and better understood her own addictions (cigarettes, alcohol, and sugar) she began working to help others address their sugar addiction problems and reclaim their health and lives. We have a far-reaching conversation talking about where addiction starts – at the intersection of how our individual genetics respond to the environment and how sugar is the gateway drug to other addictions. Bitten explains the important distinctions between social use, harmful use, and addictions. She explains why these need to be managed in very different ways. We also talk about children, why diet matters, and how we can set them up for problems later in life when we don't understand the difference between a child who likes sugar and one who is addicted; as she was growing up. This episode is full of very important gems. Addiction is a primary chronic illness that can manifest in various forms, including food addiction. This is what Bitten Jonsson wants to emphasize. She was a nurse who struggled with smoking and alcoholism at the onset of her career. She was forced to enter rehab and during that time, she learned addiction medicine, which helped her overcome her drinking and smoking habits. Yet she continued to struggle with compulsive eating of ice cream and chocolate. That was when a doctor diagnosed her as a "food addict.”This conversation brings to light the importance of understanding addiction as a primary illness and the work our brain does to heal from addiction. Bitten recounts her own battle with addiction and road to recovery. She also emphasizes how social media, screens, and processed meals all contribute to the development of addictive behaviors.Quick Guide:01:01 Introduction10:49 Different addictions we may not be aware of19:03 Addiction is an illness24:06 We get addicted to processed foods29:34 Substance overload36:32 Energy drinks, processed foods, screens, and social media lead to a foggy brain42:05 Process addiction and marrying addiction and metabolic health48:57 Components of processed food49:28 The shape-shifting beast called addiction1:05:53 Hydrochloric acid's function in the body1:06:39 Closing and contactsGet to Know Our Guest:Bitten Jonsson now continues her work on addiction medicine by training professionals which she calls holistic addiction medicine."But it's important to understand that addiction is a primary chronic, progressive, and deadly if not arrested illness, but you die of the consequences. In today's episode I talk with Tiffany Cornell about her recovery journey. Tiffany is 32 years old and was born with the disease of addiction. At age 6 she was already quite overweight, suffered from severe depression and as a result got sent on her first diet retreat with her mother. Ever since then not a day has gone by that she wasn't on a diet or obsessed with the goal to lose weight and be a different person. She tried every diet out there but never managed to achieve much. After her first weight-loss surgery, which wasn't very successful, she stumbled across the low-carb high-fat diet, which was very popular in Sweden where she was living in her early 20s, and heard about Bitten Jonsson and sugar addiction. She immediately identified with everything Bitten said and finally started making some progress. She battled for 8 years to get more than 30 days of abstinence from her trigger foods, always slipping and sliding. A constant back and forth of withdrawal and peace and weight-loss and weight gain. Even after her second weight-loss surgery, which she agreed to even though she knew it wasn't the fix for her real issue, she struggled a lot. In 2021 she decided enough was enough. She knew she needed help from someone that actually knew about addiction and searched for help. The universe aligned and at around 30 days of abstinence, her usual breaking point, she found SUGARx Global. She joined the 5-day challenge, invested in their 9-week program and hasn't looked back. Her life has been completely transformed. She is now 13 months off her drug foods and can barely recognize herself inside and out. She is finally doing what she's passionate about and living a life without depression. Right now, she is studying to become a food addiction specialist and primal health coach and is even running groups for SUGARx Global on the weekends. Thanks for listening! In today's episode I talk with Karen Hannah and she shares her story of recovery over the past year. Karen is 59 years old and was a sugar and carb addict for well over 50 years. She was put on her first diet at 7 years old, lied about her age to join Weight Watchers at age 14 and has yo-yo dieted her entire life. The irony was she wasn't that overweight as a child but then she moved to a candy store when she was 13 and that set her firmly on the path for a lifetime of addiction to sugar. She dieted her way up to morbid obesity and Type 2 diabetes as an adult. All that changed when she heard about SUGARx Global almost a year ago via the Diet Doctor website where she re-watched Bitten Jonsson's videos, then joined her Facebook group and heard about a 5-day Crush your Cravings challenge. She was desperate at that point, as by that time her diabetes was completely out of control, she was on three medications and facing daily injections, and still couldn't stop eating sugar and carbs even though she knew they were literally killing her. She binge watched the challenge and it was like a lightbulb went on. She had a breakthrough call with Judy Wolfe and felt like she had come home. She went cold turkey and stopped eating sugar, carbs, grains, seed oils and sweeteners and has been abstinent ever since she joined on 3 May 2021. Her life has completely changed since then. When he got sober, he started to use sugar instead of drugs and alcohol. Flour and sugar were just the staples of his diet. One day, Michael read a book called Sugar Blues by William Dufty. You can check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Sugar-Blues-William-Dufty/dp/0446343129/benazadi-20 Eventually, he started putting out his own information about sugar addiction on the internet. [12:00] Why People Don't Recognize Sugar As An Addiction People are going blind and losing limbs because of sugar addiction. Some people biochemically cannot ingest sugar. 95% of all people that lose any amount of weight gain it all back and then some in the first year. The word addiction is still stigmatized. So many people are not willing to consider sugar addiction a real thing. [24:00] What Exactly Is Happening In The Brain When We Eat Sugar All of the brain reward chemicals are affected by sugar. In fact, they are manually manipulated by sugar. When you stop eating sugar, your dopamine receptors will be thinned out. If you have a sweet tooth craving, you are looking for a dopamine hit. You can give sugar to a one-year-old, and there are no ethical worries. If you have high-stress events in your day-to-day, maybe you eat sugar as a response. Then it's time to remove the stressful situation so you can ditch the sugar. [37:15] Caffeine Use Disorder Is Accepted By The Medical Community Caffeine use disorder is actually in the DSM. The medical establishment has seen what happens when people overuse caffeine. So, we still have to fight for people who have sugar use disorder. Science is catching up around sugar addiction, and hopefully, people can get the help they need from the medical community. [41:20] Tips For Making The Transition To Keto In 2022 Keto is going to be hard for about seven to ten days. Most likely, you are not going to feel well. If you have a sugar addiction, you are going to be lethargic, and you are going to be depressed. This is normal because your dopamine is finally getting a rest. However, in the long run, you will have a better mood, you'll sleep better, and you'll be able to focus more. [50:15] All About The Quit Sugar Summit 2022 The 8th Annual Quit Sugar Summit is coming up in 2022. It goes through January 24 – 30, 2022. She has been on the Board of Directors for the Food Addiction Institute located in Florida since 2010. Bitten has decades of experience treating patients with food addiction and has developed a holistic treatment program for food addicts in which she offers education for professionals, both in Sweden and online. She has also developed a self-diagnosis test, which helps clients learn if they're suffering from harmful use or addiction. It is important to know the difference since the treatment for each condition differs. Bitten follows guidelines in addiction medicine from the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and is trained in Addiction Interaction Disorder, oftentimes described as “one illness, many outlets.” Most of Bitten's training was completed alongside Terence T. Gorski at CENAPS in the US. She was also a member of National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) and The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) for many years. Additionally, she has been certified and licensed in Alcohol and Drug Diagnose Instrument (ADDIS) since 1990, which is built on ICD 10 and DSM5 diagnostic criteria for addiction, as well as, SUGAR certified and licensed. SUGAR is an evaluation instrument she developed after the ADDIS model. Bitten is a food addict in recovery since 1993, which is when she got help in the US after struggling with her own food addiction for many years. She is convinced that a keto food plan is the best option for those who suffer from food addiction — and more specifically, for those who are addicted to sugar. "I remember as a kid, I always ate brown food.""There I was pushing sugar, that's what dieticians do in nursing homes, so it was a big conflict for me""I attended a training called InFACT [International food addiction counsellor training program]. During the intake for that program, I had to do an assessment on myself and went through it with the woman who was running the program and she said to me, ‘Dave, you're an early stage food addict'.""My mom is a food addict. My sister was a food addict. So it's like, you shake my family tree, a bunch of addicts come out." "It was the first time I really confronted the fact that I was addicted.""If you have a food that you debate whether you should or shouldn't consume, then it's a trigger. It will cause cravings. If you have a food that when you eat it, you feel guilty afterwards, guilt debate, remorse, regret, then it's a trigger food.""Or if you have romance, it's kind of more like anticipation, longing, think about a secret rendezvous, a food that's more than just a food to you. Mark Farley has been active in the recovery fellowships for almost 30 years. Mark found his Spiritual connection and his sobriety through the Salvation Army ARC program in 1991. They helped him to get back on his feet and begin putting his life back together. Mark wound up going back to school to get his Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificates and went through the Salvation Army's Adjutant program to earn a Pastoral certification. He worked at the Salvation Army for 3 years running their Drug and Alcohol Rehab program and managing the homeless shelter in Sacramento California. Mark has a passion for helping others to overcome their addictions and afflictions as well as working with the homeless. Mark went on to build a very successful business that coordinated with hospitals and drug and alcohol treatment centers to medically manage detoxes before realizing his passion for helping the helpless, hopeless, hurting, and addicted. He earned his MBA and Pastoral Ordination while co-founding and building the 501c3 Furniture Bank, Inc. with his wife Tami. Mark is the Senior Pastor and Founder of Faith Through Works Fellowship, an outreach church that works primarily with the homeless, helpless, hurting and addicted. Known as the “cussing Pastor” you won't find Mark preaching from a pulpit on a Sunday! He prefers to be in the rehabs, shelters, and centers that helped him to find his way long ago. As Mark grew older his weight became an issue and in time lead to health issues. Like most folks, he tried every diet, food program, pill, and powder, but had no success. Mark tried to find a solution within the existing 12 Step based eating disorder and food programs but struggled to adhere to their suggestions. November 26, 2017, Mark hit his bottom and in desperation found Bitten Jonsson through the internet. Bitten responded to Mark's request and helped him to see that he was addicted to sugar and bad carbs just like his addiction to drugs and alcohol! The light at the end of the tunnel appeared! Mark continued to work with other existing food programs but found the 12 Step approach severely lacking. At the encouragement of Bitten and others, Mark decided to create what he was seeking. Mark is the founder of SCAA – Sugar and Carb Addicts Anonymous. A 12 Step Fellowship that has been meeting via Zoom since May of 2018. With just under 500 active members worldwide, there are 19 meetings weekly. The SCAA fellowship works from the AA Big Book and follows the 12 Steps as their suggested way to recover. Mark has been married to Tami for 26 years. They have a 23-year-old daughter Kai and reside 1n Queen Creek Arizona. Mark has published 3 Daily Devotionals and (3) 12 Step Recovery Workbooks. Shun Foreman has been a registered nurse for twenty-two years. As she reflects on her career, she has always sought ways to become more effective in vulnerable communities. To enhance the knowledge of the world around her, she completed a degree in human rights and social justice at Southern Methodist University. Her graduate studies degree allowed her to travel to learn more about Sugar Land 95 and to tour sugar plantations. She believes the combined experience of nursing and human rights and social justice allows her to use a unique lens on how sugar has impacted African-American communities since slavery. Since the completion of Bitten Jonsson's SUGAR certification, her beliefs about healing individuals, groups, and communities of color are much more refined. She believes wholeheartedly that food sources, African American women, and the hidden harm of sugar are the three most overlooked sources of healing African American communities. Therefore, her life's work is centered around sugar awareness and creating dialogue change that will empower and promote healing in communities of color. For far too long, vulnerable communities have been stigmatized. Shun believes it's time to heal all of our communities as a whole. To put her vision into action, she started, Sisters Breaking the Bonds of Sugar where women of color can come together to discuss how sugar relates to their history and their health. Dr Jen Unwin Dr Jen Unwin is a chartered clinical and health psychologist. She worked for over 30 years in the NHS and now spends her time researching, campaigning and writing about sugar addiction. She is a founding member of the Public Health Collaboration, a UK charity campaigning for better public health advice. Her and her husband Dr David Unwin, a GP have been helping the patients in his practice adopt low carb diets to reverse their diabetes. This work has resulted in several published papers and numerous conference and media appearances. She has recently published a book called 'Fork in the Road' which is a guide for people with sugar/carb addiction. All profits are for the PHC. Dr Jen Unwin is a Clinical Psychologist and lifelong carbohydrate addict. She noticed that if she came off plan it was hard to get back to it. She knew about addiction in her work as a psychologist but hadn't linked it to food. Once Dr Jen became aware that sugars and carbohydrates can truly be addictive, she looked into more. Dr Jen trained with Bitten Jonsson a holistic addiction specialist. They recognised that the same problems a person has with alcohol or drugs can also happen with sugars and carbs.Dr Jen explains that some sugar and carb addicts have to be careful with sweeteners, nuts, dairy and alcohol as they too can influence the brain pathways.Dr Jen's BooksFork In the Road - Dr Jen Unwinhttps://amzn.to/33TytYgDr Jen's Top TipsIf you can't moderate - try withoutIf you can recognise an addiction - then abstain rather than moderateIt's not all about the foodResources MentionedEscape The Diet Trap - Dr John Briffahttps://amzn.to/3fjnqguBitten Jonssonhttps://fabulouslyketo.com/podcast/011Quotes by Dr Jen Unwin“So I'm a bit of an all or nothing person. And I felt amazing.”“It's essentially the sugars that are the most addictive thing.”“What's addiction? It's about this kind of compulsion and a difficulty resisting carrying out those behaviours even when you don't want to. You know, you're doing something that you know is harming your mental and physical health but still you do it.”“Find your tribe. Most of us haven't got people in our family, necessarily, who understand this struggle.”“Hope is possible. Change is possible.”“Sugar is robbing people of their joy and their best selves.”“Habits were incredibly powerful. Yet with willpower, we're never going to rely on it really in this regard. Because it gets hijacked by that primitive part of your brain, the survival part of your brain which is driving you to do these things as it thinks it is helping you.”"If you're a true addict, you can't have a little bit of cake. As she reflects on her career, she has always sought ways to become more effective in vulnerable communities. To enhance her knowledge of the world around her, she completed a degree in human rights and social justice at Southern Methodist University. The combined experience of nursing and human rights and social justice allows her to use a unique lens on how sugar has impacted African-American communities since slavery. Since the completion of Bitten Jonsson's SUGAR certification and her peers' support at SUGARx, her beliefs about healing individuals, groups, and communities of color are much more refined. She believes wholeheartedly that food, African American women, and the hidden harm of sugar are the three most overlooked sources of healing African American communities. Therefore, her life's work is centered around sugar awareness and creating dialogue change that will empower and promote healing in communities of color. For far too long, vulnerable communities have been stigmatized, so let's shift the language from food deserts to fuel deserts to heal all of our communities as a whole! Dr. Unwin specializes in helping people with chronic illnesses to improve their lives through solution-focused brief therapy (a psychological approach based on solution-building rather than problem-solving). She is former Chair of the UK Association for Solution-Focused Practice. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Unwin contributed to 19 clinical papers and two published books. She is also a renowned public speaker, having spoken at conferences and events worldwide. She recently retired from her NHS role in May 2019 and now dedicates her time to working alongside her husband, Dr. David Unwin, to provide innovative and results-driven patient care to those with type 2 diabetes and sugar addiction through Diabetes Digital Media (DDM). DDM is an award-winning digital health platform offering scalable and evidence-based health solutions to those with diabetes. Together, the Unwins have pioneered the use of low carbohydrate diets in the treatment of obesity and diabetes through a patient-centric model of ‘hope'. Dr. Unwin believes that “every piece of bad news, for example a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, can be turned on its head to become a golden opportunity for change.” Since the success of the low carb initiative is largely reliant on hope, the most important part is to address the patient's personal goals. Dr. Unwin draws on her extensive psychological knowledge to promote a two-way discussion which is informative, motivating and fulfilling for both doctor and patient. Through hard work, perseverance and most of all, taking the time to understand each patient's individual needs and goals, David and Jen Unwin have proven that low carb lifestyles work, that they last, and that they can be made accessible to all. Bitten Jonsson  is a Registered Nurse since 1973, worked with addiction medicine since 1987 and sugar addiction since 1993. This is through eating the right types of food - such as the keto way of eating, with clean products, good foods, good fats and you have to figure out the fuel mix. I dagens avsnitt får du möta beroendeexpert Bitten Jonsson. Trevlig lyssning! Bittens hemsida: https://www.bittensaddiction.com

Sista helgen i juni hölls stora LCHF-eventet i Säffle igen. Going Beyond the Food: Intuitive Eating, Emotional Eating, Body Neutrality, Diet Mindset and Anti-Diet Podcast

Do you say things like “I'm on track”, “I'm having a good or bad day” and the ultimate “on and off the wagon”? Absolutist thinking is one of the most common denominators in our Going Beyond The Food community. It's the source of many emotional eating loops, overeating weekends and restricted food binges. The truth is the all or nothing mindset is a negative thought process also known as cognitive distortion. Everything- from food to your views of yourself to professional life– is divided into black or white terms. Everything is either success or failure. The consequences of this way of engaging with food and, quite frankly, life are anxiety, stress, self-doubt, low self-esteem, feeling of failure and shame and long-term distorted relationship to food. Most critical, it affects our ability to have a healthy and balanced life experience. To add fuel to the fire, the fact is that diets are built around the all or nothing framework. We start the diet, we restrict food and it works until it doesn't. Then, we try harder and feel that we need to be 100% to get results… we feel deprived… we cave in having “bad food” …  as a result, we feel ashamed of ourselves… and it goes on and on. The Solution to the "All or Nothing Mindset" The solution is to learn to live in the grey… to separate your self-worth with how you engage with food or your weight. You are so much more than the way you eat or what you weigh. Step 1 The first step, instead of trying to suppress your hunger and cravings, seek to understand why you desire to eat. Shift the focus from bad and good to compassion and acceptance. Step 2 The second step is to learn to manage your emotions with something else than food. We teach using your breath (The Crave Cure Formula) to ride the wave of your emotions. Some use tapping… many other solutions... just got to program your subconscious mind to seek something else than food. Final Step The last step is to tap into your intuition to know what to know, what to eat instead of diet rules. We call this intuitive eating, your internal nutritionist. Yes, every human was given one at birth! I used to be the Queen of “All or Nothing”… extreme in everything. At 36 years old, it came to end. My body couldn't take the stress anymore and shut down. That's why I'm so passionate about my work and what I teach. In this episode, I also shared my personal take on the labeling of 'addict' and how I view my addictive behaviors which paved the way for the creation of the Going Beyond The Food Method. Going Beyond the Food: Intuitive Eating, Emotional Eating, Body Neutrality, Diet Mindset and Anti-Diet Podcast

Are you a sugar addict? Is sugar addiction even real? What's the difference between sugar addiction and emotional eating? If we're addicted to sugar, what should we do? These are all the questions we will answer with Bitten Jonsson, RN, ADDIS/SUGAR Certified and a Sugar Addiction Specialist. I gave her carte blanche to use my own assessment to explain and help you understand addiction. If you look at the medical definition of addiction… I'm an addict. Throughout my life, I have been addicted to many substances and activities: started with sugar then moved on to drugs and nicotine and then human co-dependency and work. As Bitten described, I have an addictive personality. But I don't like the label of addict. To be honest, I don't like labeling altogether. I find labeling to be very disempowering. When I labeled myself as an addict, which I did in my twenties, it made my addiction worse. I thought I was powerless.... that the substance had more power than I could ever have over my own addiction. For me, my addictive behaviors are a message from my soul... once I understood this concept of addiction, it allowed me to recover as they say in the word of addiction. Going Beyond the Food: Intuitive Eating, Emotional Eating, Body Neutrality, Diet Mindset and Anti-Diet Podcast

Are you a sugar addict? Is sugar addiction even real? What’s the difference between sugar addiction and emotional eating? If we’re addicted to sugar, what should we do? These are all the questions we will answer with Bitten Jonsson, RN, ADDIS/SUGAR Certified and a Sugar Addiction Specialist. I gave her carte blanche to use my own assessment to explain and help you understand addiction. If you look at the medical definition of addiction… I’m an addict. Throughout my life, I have been addicted to many substances and activities: started with sugar then moved on to drugs and nicotine and then human co-dependency and work. As Bitten described, I have an addictive personality. But I don’t like the label of addict. To be honest, I don’t like labeling altogether. Instead of recovery, I say I surrendered. Surrendering to my addictions created the Going Beyond The Food Method. The Going Beyond The Food Method was born from me hitting rock bottom and seeing the story repeating itself in my patients.
