This week is all about friendships and relationships that come with added 'benefits'. We discuss the pros and cons of a typical 'with benefits' type setup, and explore what the 'benefits' actually are - is it just sex, or is there more to it? Can you, in fact, have a non-sexual friendship with benefits? We also look back fondly on our own 'with benefits' friends of the past. This week's 'with benefits' related film is 'Y tu mamá también' directed by Alfonso Cuarón. We thought it was an excellent representation of these types of relationship, which navigates a beautiful line between humour and pathos. TW: There are no specific trigger warnings, but the film discussion touches on the topic of terminal illness, in case anyone's feeling particularly sensitive to that right now. There are some episodes of the podcast that simply pack so much wisdom into a short conversation. This is one of those episodes. Children enter foster care for many different reasons. And despite some of the hard work we do to overcome and heal from the past, our stories can still be messy. My guest knows this all too well! Kristen Thomas entered into kinship care after suffering abuse, but experienced deep-rooted challenges when she felt misunderstood, unsupported, and became homeless after aging out of care. As an adult, Kristen has taken the time to move towards healing those parts of her past. Today, she is going to grad school for Counseling and is an adoptive parent to her daughter, with only a 10-year age difference between them. Kristen is very well-spoken and I greatly appreciated her coming onto the show. I know you will be encouraged by her story! TW: There are heavy and pointed discussions of suicide and ideation.  For those of you struggling with those thoughts, we suggest skipping this, or parts of this episode.  If you or someone you know needs help, please dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to speak with someone.  Help is available. You're never alone.  There's no need to walk in the dark. . . . Buckle up, 3CG fans, because this week we're diving back into the apex of teen drama and angst with the OG 1955 flick, "Rebel Without a Cause". Another golden Hollywood oldie from our own golden-haired Hollywood old soul.  It becomes increasingly apparent how this movie set the (sound)stage for so many franchises to come as Hannah and the boys delve into the movie that made James Dean an icon and makes us wonder why they were called the silent generation because they sure made a lot of noise.  James Dean stars as Jim Stark, a misunderstood teen who despite his best intentions, always ends up in trouble. Caught in the middle of his parents' strained relationship and constantly searching to find a loving group of his own, Jim turns to an unlikely crew of characters, played by Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo, and Ed Platt, to supplement the missing affections of his milquetoast, middle-class family. Spoiler alert: it doesn't end well. Join the krewe as we explore the darkest inventions wrought by teenage angst, the eternal quest for acceptance, and the real behind-the-scenes drama that made “Rebel Without a Cause” a classic. How often does Terry mention James Dean's flawless skin? How uncomfortable will Matt get? Will Garrett offer any insight that doesn't make Hannah roll her eyes? Do you love true crime? Are you here for the story sharing or growing through our experiences and using them for good? Well this is the best of both worlds! Think of Joe like the godfather of true crime. Not only does he have experience working with the villains, he uses this experience to help victims and to save lives. He's a former FBI agent and has authored 14 books, including Dangerous Personalities. This is a book that Ginny speaks of frequently as it was extremely impactful in her journey. Joe talks about why he wrote this book and why it's so important. Having worked with and studying some of the ultimate dangerous personalities over the years, he found it was the stories of the victims that followed him home. This book serves as a resource to better understand if you or someone you know is being impacted, or even tormented, by a dangerous personality. It can also provide tremendous validation for those that have had or are having interactions with these types of people. Perhaps one of the most vulnerable conversation we've been part of and we'd love for you to join us in this conversation.TW: There are some sensitive topics we touch on regarding death, suicide and addiction.Having been diagnosed with cancer just a month back, Paul has found himself at bridge in his life.Paul went into operation a day after our recording.A phase where he finds himself post diagnosis but pre his operation and recovery process. What followed, was a conversation on his life philosophy, how he'd live his life differently post-operation, what he wants his legacy to be and advice to us, as young healthy adults like ourselves who are fortunate to have their entire life in front of them.Paul also fought depression during his adolescent early adult life. A depression that almost took his own life. But thankfully, he survived, through an extensive recovery process that saw him marry the love of his life and have two beautiful children. What is striking in this conversation, was his ability to reflect and articulate his life philosophy and learnings with simplicity.A reflection point he described was that at some point in his younger life, where he would often wish for death. But now that he's well and wants to live, he feels that his prior wish has been granted by a higher force. This conversation really meant a lot to us. We actually met Paul during a steam and sauna session at our local gym and it was as if fate had brought the three of us together. This conversation is really meant to be a celebration of Paul and his willingness to share his story and have a conversation. We are of the belief that these are more conversations that we need to be having and as such, have kept this episode completely unedited.Available now, wherever you listen to your conversationsWe hope you enjoy this one.---As always, Bottled Up is a passion project to help provide a voice to those many men who are going through the peaks and troughs of life. Chrysalism and Chill

Hi folks. In this episode, Jess shares her personal story to self-connection. A lot of trials and tribulations. A lot of failed relationships and heartache. Addictions, the messiness of life, childhood trauma, and the healing power of nature. A lot of turning inwards. Sometimes we need to go into a chrysalis for a period of time to process, reflect, and heal. Multiple times. Ultimately, our answers come from within. Nobody else has those. Our bodies are intelligent and will tell us exactly what is going on .... our head tells us a lot of stories and lies, we just have to be brave enough to open our hearts listen. The institutions he worked at are all recognized leaders in their respective fields and the variety of animals he worked with and the varied responsibilities he has had are unique. He was a senior staff clinician in the medicine department at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. After being hired to head the Boston Zoos, he led a turnaround for the failing inner city Franklin Park Zoo. “Dr. Mark” then moved west with his wife Kristine and their two daughters when he was appointed to lead the Los Angeles Zoo. During his tenure at the Los Angeles Zoo he was involved with one of the most successful release programs, the reintroduction of the California Condor back into the wild. He vividly remembers watching the first bird being re-released into the Los Padres National Forest soar free one misty beautiful morning. He followed his heart to shine a light on the importance of the human-animal bond and took the helm at the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA where he oversaw the design, development, and completion of the “San Diego Campus for Animal Care.” Many aspects of the campus, its programs and its unique partnership with the municipal animal care department have been copied numerous times both nationally and internationally. He has a BS in Animal Science and a DVM degree from Cornell University. Health Communications Inc. (HCI) recently published his book “Lions and Tigers and Hamsters” What large and small animals taught me about life, love and humanity. Dr. Mark enjoys giving presentations that are both educational and entertaining. His talks not only draw upon stories from his book “Lions and Tigers and Hamsters” but also from his 40 years of experience caring for animals and their welfare along with supporting the people who care for them. He has vast experience talking to a variety of groups from book clubs, service organizations, and at professional conferences as the keynote speaker. He was also the UCSD OSHER visiting author during the 2020 spring semester. He imparts to his audience the importance of the human-animal bond and how it helps create the fabric of a healthy community. He calls upon his experiences to share with colleagues how he feels honored to have been able to serve in what he sees as a sacred profession, the practice of veterinary medicine. He enjoys making his presentations interactive and encourages Q/A when the program allows.

TW: There are some pretty graphic sexual true crime details in this one if you want to skip it.  "But then a week later, Remy fell into another trance. And she started speaking to her husband in that same foreign voice - a voice that was angry this time... And then this voice gave him the names — AND the phone numbers — of four different people Teresita knew who could identify this jewelry as belonging to Teresita. And then the voice, after urging him again to PLEASE contact the authorities - it went away again. His wife snapped out of her trance. "  It's a bizarre episode of Scared to Death! Dan has two rather interesting stories that walk the fine line between true crime (which they are, for sure) and paranormal (which they might be, who knows?!). Dan kicks off the show with a very well documented death of Cindy Elizabeth Hack James. It's a topsy turvy twister. Cindy is a women who someone wants dead, but whom, or what, is after her? For SEVEN years, Cindy is harassed, attacked, stalked and eventually killed. But who is the killer? Then, in the second story of the show, Dan is certain he has evidence of the paranormal and after life. When a middle aged woman is found dead in her apartment, with no signs of forced entry and no enemies to speak of,  it's just the beginning of the most bizarre murder mystery. Teresita was a popular and well liked woman, so when she turned up dead, the questions began swirling. Police would never have predicted just how they would solve this case. It would appear that Teresita was uninterested in finding eternal rest, until she brought her killer to justice, even from beyond the grave. This singular tale has Lynze somewhat excited for what might exist, beyond this world. Listen in closely and follow the details of this Scared To Death: Unsolved Mysteries episode.  Lynze also some very unique and spooky tales for her half of the show. In story one, we are off to Columbia to hear the tale of a son who is deeply concerned for his father and the dark forces that seem to be at play in his life, both in the world and beyond. Is Oscar's Dad in trouble with money, women or the devil? Something bizarre sure is swirling around Oscar's Dad and if he isn't careful, it might also consume Oscar. Then, in story two, Lynze leaves it up to you to decide if this tale is a case of sleep paralysis or if it's something else entirely.  Thank you for continuing to send in your stories, Creeps and Peepers! TW: There are discussions of suicidal thoughts and mental health throughout this discussion that may be triggering for some. It is no secret that mental health and particularly depression and suicide disproportionately impacts our mob more than any other Australian group. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are nearly three times more likely to be psychologically distressed than non-Indigenous Australians and most devastatingly, suicide remains one of the leading causes of death for our young ones. The question on how to solve this is difficult to answer, but having upfront, difficult conversations around it and being able to listen to and learn from role models with lived experience, is one place to start. Today my guest is powerful Wiradjuri man, Joe Williams. He's an author, the founder of The Enemy Within, a Dad and a survivor. He so generously and openly shares his story of a lifelong battle with himself and his own mind and has taken his own trauma and life lessons as an opportunity to grow, share and be able to help others who have faced similar feelings and hurdles. I've long admired Joe's voice and strength and I'm so thrilled to share his story with you today. If you are experiencing dark thoughts or struggling with your mental health, please reach out, connect with your local AMS or call Lifeline on 13 11 14. . . .
