Today's guest is cyclist and business owner Jenna Rinehart. Her career is one of many chapters and she's still at the front of the pack, currently leading the Life Time Grand Prix wildcard standings. What makes Jenna especially unique is that she balances elite racing with ownership of a bike shop in her hometown of Minnesota. We talk about that juggling act, her early success in mountain biking, and this unexpected phase of life that brought her back to the top level of the sport. Can you train mental durability? “Yes, 100 per cent,” says Haley Smith. The rider knows her stuff. She's an Olympian who competed in cross country mountain biking. She's a Commonwealth Games medallist and a two-time national marathon mountain bike champion. Smith won the first Life Time Grand Prix series. Recently, she was fifth at the Traka 360 gravel race in Spain. While Smith is a top-level rider, she's also a PhD student in sports psychology. In her studies, cycling is front and centre. One of her papers even examined the spirit of gravel. In the interview, Smith discusses racing, her academic work, as well as mental strategies that can help you to be a better rider. This season, Smith is on tour. Not a multi-stage event in this case, but a speaking tour that also includes group rides. It's all part of her Competere project. Competere is aimed at helping more girls and women grow into passionate cyclists. Here's the schedule: May 14-15: Le Club, Montreal, chat and ride on the 15th May 21: Toronto, Etape 22, chat only June 18: Vancouver, Bici, chat only July 2-3: Cyclesmith, Halifax, chat and ride on the 3rd Oct. 17: Big Sugar Gravel, chat
This week on the show Kathryn welcomes back professional cyclist and coach Hannah Otto. Last fall after finishing in a tie for 7th p[lace overall in the Life Time Grand Prix, Hannah went to the Big Island of Hawai'i to attempt a Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Mauna Kea climb. This was not Hannah's first time attempting an FKT, and she talks about what drives her to take on these epic endurance events as well as what she loves most about racing no one but herself. While riding 55 miles straight up hill wouldn't necessarily be everyone's idea of fun, Hannah details how she finds joy in these attempts, and how she adapts when things start to get difficult. Hannah is competing in the Life Time Grand Prix again in 2026. She talks through a few of her best tips leading into the last few weeks before Unbound, and how to get the most out of your day there.Watch Hannah recap of her FKT attempt on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ7SrrqEUXM&t=316sFollow Hannah on Instagram @thehannahotto

This week on The Domestiques, we take it off Beach Road and into the dirt with Brendan “Trekky” Johnston, one of Australia's leading gravel riders and a regular at the pointy end of the Lifetime Grand Prix in the US.Trekky talks through the brutal mix of racing that defines modern gravel, from Sea Otter and Levi's GranFondo to the madness of Unbound, where equipment, fuelling, tactics and luck all seem to matter at the same time. He also shares the story behind his ride across Australia for Tour de Cure, his own experience with cancer, and why that challenge became bigger than the record attempt itself. With Seven Gravel and the UCI Gravel World Championships coming to Nannup, the team dive into tyre choice, race prep, nutrition, aid stations, and why WA gravel might finally give Worlds a proper gravel test.
Amanda chats with Skyler Taylor about his return to top-level bike racing after leaving World Cup mountainbiking and taking a long break from professional racing, how he got into gravel racing, recent results and the chase for a Lifetime Grand Prix wild card spot. The 2026 Life Time Grand Prix is officially underway after an action-packed day at Sea Otter. In the injury-ridden men's field, Bradyn Lange surged to victory in a sprint finish with Keegan Swenson. In the women's field, Sofia Gomez-Villafañe took the win in a stacked field that battled headwinds and countless attacks throughout most of the day. Payson sat down with Sarah Sturm to recap the day's events. Her pregnancy and deferred Grand Prix spot meant that she got to view the race from the other side of the tape, this time as a commentator for the livestream. They discuss the disproportionate number of challenges that faced many of the favorites this year, as well as the standouts, the treacherous finish, and the ascent of the U23 category. Cam Jones is on a tear. As the reigning Unbound champion and taking top honors at the Life Time Grand Prix in 2025, he's a man on a mission. This conversation comes at the tail end of Cam's summer back home in New Zealand, on the verge of his upcoming trip to North America to kickoff the 2026 campaign. Cam's story is one of perseverance. It's not easy to make the trip from the other side of the globe to try your hand among the world's best, but Cam did that starting in about 2022 in the pursuit of the mountain bike world cup circuit. Through some misadventures, perhaps a trip to a detention center through a misunderstanding and stern border patrol agent, he ultimately found his way to the wild card spot at the 2025 LTGP and of course the rest is well recorded history. This week on the show Kathryn and Kristi are chatting with French cyclist, Cécile Lejeune. Cécile grew up in the suburbs of Paris, and got her start in endurance sport in triathlon at age 12. She had quick success in the sport winning national titles in both triathlon and running. This success earned her a running scholarship at Arizona State University. But behind the scenes Cécile was struggling with an eating disorder and battling RED-S, and just one month into her collegiate running career she suffered a stress fracture that ultimately led to her being medically retired from running by the team doctors as ASU. Cécile speaks openly about her struggles with her eating disorder and RED-S, and how she has worked her way back to a more healthy view of fueling and training. She also tells us how leaving running allowed her to find her way into cycling and pursue the sport professionally. After a stint on some UCI road teams in Europe, Cécile moved back to the US and is now part of team CCB. This is her first year in the Life Time Grand Prix, and she is currently in 5th in the overall standings.Follow Cécile on Instagram @cecilejeuneRegister for our 2026 Gravel Camp and Bike Mechanic School: https://feisty.co/events/gravel-camp-x-bike-mechanic-school/ Follow us on Instagram:@feistycycling @feisty_media Girls Gone Gravel Website:https://www.girlsgonegravel.com/ Support our Partners:Previnex: Get 15% off your first order with code GIRLSGONEGRAVEL at https://www.previnex.com/

This week on the show, Payson sits down with Sarah Sturm to talk about the roster for 2026's Life Time Grand Prix, which was released last week and contained more surprises than all the previous years combined. Payson and Sarah chat about the lengthy list of brand-new riders, the heartbreak and shock of seeing one of the most promising young racers of the past few years shut out of the series completely, and what they think about the controversial changes to the prize money. On this episode, I sit down with pro mountain biker and endurance powerhouse Hannah Otto to talk about the mental and physical strategies that fuel her remarkable performances from setting FKTs on the Moab Triple Crown to racing in the Lifetime Grand Prix and World Championships.Hannah shares how she's built a life around adventure and purpose, balancing the technical and tactical side of elite racing with the mindset tools that keep her grounded and thriving. We dive into her journey from triathlon to mountain biking, lessons from the Leadville 100 win, and how she approaches fear, failure, and focus with the same level of intention she brings to every ride.We also unpack what she calls the “psychological similarity” between pros and everyday athletes, the shared experience of pushing limits, battling self-doubt, and chasing growth for its own sake. Hannah talks about working with a sports psychologist, learning to control what you can and release what you can't, and how her “CocoPelli Strong” mantra has become a symbol of resilience after one of her toughest days on the trail.Episode Art Photo Credit: Marcus Graciaskimo gold, endurance and life coaching with brief testimonials

Stage 3 of Gravel Burn was rough and tactical. Simon Pellaud, who has raced in just about every corner of the world this season and is hot off his second-place finish in the Life Time Grand Prix, took the stage win over Matt Beers and is currently sitting in second in the GC. He joins Payson to talk about how the stage played out, his strategy for securing the win, and the crash he witnessed. The 2025 Life Time Grand Prix finished with a bang thanks to a razor-thin margin in the men's field and a last-minute course change due to weather. Payson is joined by Paige Onweller to break down how it all played out. Paige was sidelined from the season after she was hit by a car a couple of months ago, but as a Bentonville resident, she knows the route better than anyone, including the pros who had planned to race the 100-mile route before it was scrapped for the completely different 50-mile route at the last minute. They talk about the many-sided tactical battle in the women's race and how wild card rider Cam Jones managed to outfox three-time Grand Prix champion Keegan Swenson and former WorldTour rider Simon Pellaud to take the series overall title. Spoiler alert: the fireworks started long before that bunch sprint for the finish. Plus, Paige talks about her injury and how she's hoping to turn the trauma of the accident into advocacy for rider safety on the roads. No one thinks “race bike” when I say Santa Cruz Stigmata, yet it's probably the winningest pro gravel bike over the last bunch of years. It's not light, but why might that not matter? KILLER livability No aero anything, forget about integrated shit, external seat post clamp (replaceable), and the fork is suspension corrected. Its glorious. Putting out nearly 5w/kg for 180km earned Matej Mohorič third place at the UCI Gravel World Championships, but how does it compare to one of the most intense Lifetime Grand Prix races? We look at Mohorič's effort versus Simon Pellaud's race data from a punchy Sea Otter course to see which event was "harder," and also how their numbers compare to our own much more human abilities. Spoiler alert: it ain't even close. Back in the real world, Alvin spent the last six months testing Santa Cruz's Stigmata and might have fallen in love with its off-road handling, but is the bike's geometry right for everyone? No, of course not, but Levy still tries to convince Josh that most gravel riders would have more fun (and be just as fast) on a slacker, longer bike like the Stiggy. Finally, we review Wolf Tooth's new gravel-specific, one-sided DEL pedal that promises low weight, more support, and an adjustable Q-factor. See the latest from the Velo Podcast here. The second-to-last round of the Life Time Grand Prix shook up the points chase in a big way thanks to a ruthless course that caused a never-ending series of crashes and flats. Payson walks through the standings before the final round this weekend, in which four riders in the men's field could come away with the series overall. Then, he sits down with Andrew L'Esperance, who got third at Little Sugar and has been on top form all season after fighting his way into the Grand Prix via a wild card slot. On this week's episode Kathryn and Kristi are joined by professional cyclist and Life Time Grand Prix athlete Paige Onweller. Shortly after the Leadville 100 MTB race, Paige was hit by a car while out on a training ride while at home in Arkansas. Not only did the crash cause Paige major physical injuries and a severe concussion, it left her struggling with the emotional toll of the trauma from the incident. Paige speaks openly about the challenges she has faced since the crash, and how her path to recovery is going so far. Anyone that knows Paige knows that she is a highly motivated laser focused on being the best athlete she can be. When that was taken away by the crash and resulting injuries, Paige refocused her attention to becoming an advocate for safety for cyclists and other vulnerable road users. She is passionate about spreading awareness around road safety, and giving a voice to those of us that use the roads for cycling, running, walking and other activities. Paige is in the process of creating resources that will provide a template and framework on how to reach out to your state representative, and she encourages all cyclists to speak out and advocate for safety on the roads.Follow Paige on Instagram @paigepowered

This is her first year in the Life Time Grand Prix, and she is currently in 5th in the overall standings.Follow Cécile on Instagram @cecilejeuneFollow us on Instagram:@girlsgonegravel @feisty_media Girls Gone Gravel Website:https://www.girlsgonegravel.com/ Feisty Media Website:https://livefeisty.com/ Support our Partners:Previnex: Get 15% off your first order with code GIRLSGONEGRAVEL at https://www.previnex.com/ Feisty's Lift Heavy Guide: Get your guide to lifting heavy plus a 4-week training plan at https://www.womensperformance.com/lift-heavy
Our guest this week may sound familiar to our listeners who have been following along with the 2025 Life Time Grand Prix. This year Meredith Miller has been on the commentary team for Unbound Gravel as well as the Leadville MTB 100 races, serving as the voice that colors the race alongside Bill Ross. But her experience in the cycling industry spans much further than announcing races. After her collegiate soccer career ended, Meredith was looking for a new sport to focus her energy on, and decided cycling was a good thing to try. She bought her first bike and joined a race team in the same year, and it wasn't long before she was racing professionally, including a stint of bouncing around Europe on road teams. Meredith eventually made her way back to the US, and won the National Championships on the road in 2009. She also raced cyclocross, co-owned a race team, and worked for an apparel brand, before landing at her current role as the Road Sports Marketing Manager at Shimano. She tells us what prompted her to make the jump to Shimano in the depths of the pandemic, and gives her insight on how the industry has changed for women over the years. As well as a few tips for anyone looking for support from big brands like Shimano. This week on the show we are throwing it back to April, when Kathryn had a chance to sit down with professional cyclist Danni Shrosbree in Girona ahead of the kick off to her 2025 race season. Growing up as a running and competitive swimmer, Dani dabbled in triathlon a bit, then was recruited to her university rowing team. After university she was looking for an outlet to stay active and found cycling, at first just for fun, but was talked into doing a crit race (which she won) and was hooked from there. From there, Danni worked her way up the road racing ranks and eventually joined a UCI continental team - all while working full time. Danni dabbled in some off-road riding over the pandemic with her dad, and decided to give gravel racing a try in 2023. She loved it, and in looking for more gravel races, she ended up applying for, and getting accepted into the Life Time Grand Prix. Danni committed to gravel racing for the 2024, but after sponsorship changes that year she left the Grand Prix to focus on the Gravel Earth series. As a European-based rider, Danni opens up about the challenges of racing in the USA, and also the changes that she has seen as a female racer in Europe. Cécile Lejeune is a rising star in women's pro cycling, but this Frenchwoman (and now Arizonian) is no stranger to speed. With roots in Tri and a number of impressive running records in her native country, Cécile has been challenging herself since the age of 12. A RED-S survivor, Cécile brings an inspiring and candid story to this year's Life Time Grand Prix, where she currently sits in a top-10 ranking. This is even more impressive when you consider that last year she wasn't even accepted into the race. With a love of gravel, tips on where to get married in a hurry, and an outsized helping of wisdom, this conversation with Cécile is not one to miss.
The Life Time Grand Prix is back, which means we've got a whole new season of recap episodes on the way. To kick things off, we've got South African rider Hayley Preen and Swiss rider Simon Pellaud here to take us inside their races. Hayley just won the South African Gravel Nationals shortly after grabbing third place at the Cape Epic and is on her second go-round of the Grand Prix. Last year, she had to drop out after a broken wrist, but she's started off this season strong with a fourth-place finish at round one last weekend. Simon is a Grand Prix newcomer but he's been pretty busy over the past few years. He gives us a quick rundown of his career so far, which includes racing in the WorldTour for Trek, racing for a US Conti team, and breaking his WorldTour contract in order to join the Swiss ProTeam Tudor Pro. Now, he's racing for the Chinese Conti team Li-Ning Star on the road while holding down a gravel career on the side. He talks about his days lining up for the Vuelta and the Giro, using his breakaway skills at Sea Otter, and how he's planning to balance his globetrotting schedule this year. Our guest this week is Colorado-based cyclist Michaela Thompson, who joined us a couple of days before the kickoff of the Life Time Grand Prix at Sea Otter Gravel. Originally from Boulder, Michaela now lives in Durango CO. She talks about her upbringing in a family of athletes, and how she made her way from downhill ski racing to joining the cycling team at Boulder High School in her junior year. Michaela joined the Boulder Junior Cycling Club in 2019 where she dabbled in all disciplines of cycling, and qualified as a junior for Cyclocross Worlds in January of 2020. She tells us how that experience sparked a fire in her to compete at a high level in cycling, leading her to join a professional development team in Durango. Over the next couple of years she gained experience in the endurance cycling world, and eventually made her own race program as a privateer in 2024 where she finished 10th overall in the Life Time Grand Prix. Michaela also shares some of her goals and plans for the 2025 race season, which include a second year in the Grand Prix, as well as racing Brek Epic which starts the day after Leadville! Growing up in Ethiopia, Tsgabu Grmay was inspired to start riding by his father and older brother, who were both cyclists. As a teenager, he was selected to go to the UCI's World Cycling Centre in South Africa and signed with his first UCI team in 2012. Since then, he raced 12 years on the WorldTour with teams including Lampre-Merida, Trek-Segafredo, and Jayco-AlUla. He retired from road racing at the end of 2023, but joined Team Amani as a rider and coach. This year, he's on the roster for the Life Time Grand Prix. A lot of former WorldTour riders who turn to gravel are looking for a smooth offramp to retirement, or, at the very least, are hoping to professionalize the sport and bring more teams into the fold. But Tsgabu is fired up about all the things that make gravel different from road racing. He sat down with Payson in Girona this week to talk about his childhood in Ethiopia, the challenges he faced when he moved to Europe and joined the WorldTour, and why being on Team Amani and fostering cycling in East Africa is even more of a dream come true than racing the Tour de France.Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen
