Cécile Lejeune is a rising star in women's pro cycling, but this Frenchwoman (and now Arizonian) is no stranger to speed. With roots in Tri and a number of impressive running records in her native country, Cécile has been challenging herself since the age of 12. A RED-S survivor, Cécile brings an inspiring and candid story to this year's Life Time Grand Prix, where she currently sits in a top-10 ranking. This is even more impressive when you consider that last year she wasn't even accepted into the race. With a love of gravel, tips on where to get married in a hurry, and an outsized helping of wisdom, this conversation with Cécile is not one to miss.

Recently, Andrew L'Esperance and Alexis Cartier kicked off their North American race season. At the Sea Otter Classic gravel race, L'Esperance finished 13th, making him the top Canadian at the first event in the Life Time Grand Prix series. Cartier had a tough race. “It was fun, but I didn't perform at all,” he says in this episode. “I kind of expected it, but I really got smashed.”The pair of riders will find themselves at many of the same races this season, including other Life Time events, such as Unbound, and gravel nationals in Water Valley, Alta. They are both racing as privateers, responsible for their own logistics, sponsorships, maintenance, on top of all the training and competing. Each one has a unique plan and set of goals for the season, which they discuss in this episode. L'Esperance is mixing gravel, mountain bike and even road racing. Cartier is blending his training and transportation: he's bikepacking to all six of the Life Time Grand Prix events. Also on the pod, Canadian Cycling Magazine editors Matthew Pioro and Matt Hansen, as well as feature writer Jake Williams, discuss recent races, such as the men's and women's Amstel Gold and De Brabantse Pijl. Pioro reports back from Sea Otter. He says he knows a bunch about the 32” wheels that seem to be coming to mountain bikes, but what is he actually able to reveal?
The Life Time Grand Prix is back, which means we've got a whole new season of recap episodes on the way. To kick things off, we've got South African rider Hayley Preen and Swiss rider Simon Pellaud here to take us inside their races. Hayley just won the South African Gravel Nationals shortly after grabbing third place at the Cape Epic and is on her second go-round of the Grand Prix. Last year, she had to drop out after a broken wrist, but she's started off this season strong with a fourth-place finish at round one last weekend. Simon is a Grand Prix newcomer but he's been pretty busy over the past few years. He gives us a quick rundown of his career so far, which includes racing in the WorldTour for Trek, racing for a US Conti team, and breaking his WorldTour contract in order to join the Swiss ProTeam Tudor Pro. Now, he's racing for the Chinese Conti team Li-Ning Star on the road while holding down a gravel career on the side. He talks about his days lining up for the Vuelta and the Giro, using his breakaway skills at Sea Otter, and how he's planning to balance his globetrotting schedule this year. Send us a textIn this episode we talk with Isabel "Iz" King about:Being newly pregnant as an endurance athlete, and how that affects nutritionMental willpower through long bike races and injuryIsabel “Iz” King is a professional off-road cyclist from California who likes to push herself to new limits on the bike, while inspiring others to attack challenges with a smile. She didn't take a traditional path to becoming a professional off-road cyclist. Iz began her athletic career at Columbia University, playing D1 soccer, where she finished as the team's captain, first-time all-Ivy League honors and she earned the Ali Ahern MVP award. Despite those accolades and the momentum she built, she traded in her cleats for the world of finance post undergrad. She did find her way back, though. She discovered the world of endurance sport through triathlon while attending business school at UCLA Anderson. She eventually qualified to compete as a pro triathlete during her third 70.3 Ironman. The lure of cycling was too strong, and Isabel tabled her plans for post-grad work to pursue triathlon. However in 2020, she was inspired by the world's events to reimagine her athletic career, putting her training to good use to raise money for UCLA healthcare workers. She also partnered with Reggie Miller to speak out against social justice during this time. These days, Iz is back on the trails, and you can spot her in her signature orange kits—training hard on the roads of California and lining up for the LifeTime Grand Prix gravel and mountain bike races—always with a big smile on her face, proving that fast is fun and friendly. Please note that this podcast is created strictly for educational purposes and should never be used for medical diagnosis and treatment.Connect w/ Iz: IG: www.instagram.com/king_izStrava: https://www.strava.com/pros/20067483YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@king_izMentioned:LMNT electrolyte: https://amzn.to/4jdIDb5Carbs Fuel Drink Mix: https://amzn.to/3E5aUSfBrands that are supporting her as a pregnant athleteCamelbak: https://amzn.to/4cb63viScott Bikes: https://www.scott-sports.com/us/en/sports/bikeShimano: https://amzn.to/4j0nUHZGarmin: https://amzn.to/3FPTk5eCarbs Fuel: Shop The Feed Vittoria: https://vittoria.com/MORE NR New customers save 10% off all products on our website with the code NEWPOD10 If you would like to work with our practitioners, click here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/work-with-us/ Save 20% on all supplements at our trusted online source: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/kchannell Join Nutritional Revolution's The Feed Club to get $20 off right away with an additional $20 Feed credit drop every 90 days.: https://thefeed.com/teams/nutritional-revolution If you're interested in sponsoring Nutritional Revolution Podcast, shoot us an email at nutritionalrev@gmail.com.

This week on the show Kathryn and Kristi are joined by Life Time Grand Prix rookie Stella Hobbs, from Whitefish, MT. Stella grew up competing in nordic ski racing, and after a successful collegiate career she hung up her skis, moved back to Whitefish, and within a couple of years was the proud co-owner of Great Northern Cycle & Ski. She participated in the weekly group road rides, and started mountain biking with her husband. Then in 2020 the weekly shop ride went from pavement to gravel, thanks to the influence of Jess Cera. Although it took Stella a little while to come around to the idea of gravel riding, once she got started she never looked back. Her endurance sport background gave her a leg up in hanging on to those speedy shop rides, and in 2023 she made the jump to gravel racing, pushing herself to take on bigger and bigger races. Stella was inspired by the women of the Grand Prix, and worked hard to put herself in a position to be selected for the 2025 season. After some time off of serious training after her ski career she says she is enjoying the process of focussing on training again, and is looking forward to taking on all of the Grand Prix events this year.Follow Stella on Instagram @stellalou2 Follow us on Instagram:@girlsgonegravel @feisty_media Girls Gone Gravel Website:https://www.girlsgonegravel.com/ Feisty Media Website:https://livefeisty.com/ Support our Partners:Feisty Girona Gravel Camp: Join us in Girona for an immersive week of exploring on bikes, reflecting, connecting, and setting intentions. Growing up in Ethiopia, Tsgabu Grmay was inspired to start riding by his father and older brother, who were both cyclists. As a teenager, he was selected to go to the UCI's World Cycling Centre in South Africa and signed with his first UCI team in 2012. Since then, he raced 12 years on the WorldTour with teams including Lampre-Merida, Trek-Segafredo, and Jayco-AlUla. He retired from road racing at the end of 2023, but joined Team Amani as a rider and coach. This year, he's on the roster for the Life Time Grand Prix. A lot of former WorldTour riders who turn to gravel are looking for a smooth offramp to retirement, or, at the very least, are hoping to professionalize the sport and bring more teams into the fold. But Tsgabu is fired up about all the things that make gravel different from road racing. He sat down with Payson in Girona this week to talk about his childhood in Ethiopia, the challenges he faced when he moved to Europe and joined the WorldTour, and why being on Team Amani and fostering cycling in East Africa is even more of a dream come true than racing the Tour de France.Instagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen

Send us a textOver the holidays, we're bringing back our top 5 episodes of 2024, that we think deserve another listen. One of our most downloaded this year was our chat with professional cyclist Anna Yamauchi about her first season on the Grand Prix, navigating a Celiac diagnosis, and what excites her about her sport. Anna is such an exciting athlete to watch for 2025! We'll be back January 7 with all new episodes!Growing up in the mountains of Truckee, CA, time in the outdoors has always been central to Anna's life. As a former competitive skier, Anna also dabbled in multiple sports, playing 8 varsity highschool sports. Amongst all this, bikes have always been a part of Anna's life. In highschool she participated in a year of NICA racing, and would often ride bikes with family. But It wasn't really until the fall of 2021, with COVID lockdown and a long bike packing trip, that Anna began gravitating toward racing. In just a few years she's climbed the ranks of the pro field and is now a full time racer participating in the Lifetime Grand Prix and other Marathon MTB and gravel races. Some of you may remember our dear friend Taylor Cannon who left us high and dry for the "greener grass" of California several years ago. Well, he is back, but sadly no longer the fastest cyclist in his family. Currently sitting 42nd overall and 2 places ahead of his pops is none other then 14 year old phenom, Stockton Cannon. A 14 year old getting up at 4:30 AM day after day to race bikes is the ultimate sigma rizz no cap. Stockton rides for his high school MTB team and set the fastest time trial of any freshman ever this year. With a goal of making it into the Lifetime Grand Prix in a couple years, the future is bright for Stockton. Perhaps when we see him on the podium of Unbound he will say, "I'd like to thank the Holiday Tour de Duole for teaching me all that I know about riding bikes." Keep it up, Stockton! You got this.
Big changes are coming to the Life Time Grand Prix in 2025. Among them are fewer events, fewer riders, less altitude, and an extra mountain bike race. There are new riders, riders who were absent for a season but are coming back, and riders who have featured heavily in the series who won't be returning. Payson unpacks all the changes on the men's side, including the new riders, the most painful omission on the roster, and why some racers decided to sit this season out. In this episode of Roll On, Cole Paton, we'll dive into Cole's 2024 season—exploring the highs and lows of the Lifetime Grand Prix, Marathon Nationals and Marathon Worlds. This conversation also explores Cole's relationship with fellow racer and Olympian Savilia Blunk, lessons learned from ‘going for it' with friend Bradyn Lange at Chequamegon, and the insight that inspired the rest of his season after taking a more conservative approach (holding back) at Sea Otter. We'll revisit Cole's frustrating end to the season in Bentonville, why he dug so deep when sick at The Rad and what's motivating Cole most going into 2025. Raw, real and vulnerable, Cole shows up for Roll On as he does for race day—holding nothing back and giving listeners a look inside the mind and heart of one of the top off-road cyclists in North America. On a side-note, we had this episode scheduled for publication on November 20, but tragedy struck my family the evening before. There's a multitude of reasons I chose to team up with Cole for this partnership, and all I can say, is that he's been showing up for me and my family in a bigger way than he'll ever know. Sincere, authentic and true—that's the Cole I know. The straw the stirs the drink—he's a straight up animator on race day. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Cole Paton is the real deal—and he's so much more than a bike racer. He's a friend, partner, son, uncle, brother and down to earth, humble and full of grace dude, who just so happens to be one of the fastest men on two wheels. We hope you enjoy the listen! This week on the show Kathryn catches up with Crystal Anthony a few days ahead of her recent 9th place finish at the Leadville 100. The Bentonville-based athlete grew up in a cycling family, but first set her competitive sights on collegiate running. After missing out on an Olympic marathon qualification by a handful of seconds, Crystal decided to shift her focus to triathlon which eventually led her to cyclocross and then gravel racing. She has now been with the Liv team for seven years, and is consistently cracking the top 10 in the Life Time Grand Prix. Before committing to racing full time, Anthony was a middle school teacher for 12 years. She has maintained her love of teaching, and now gives back to the sport as a cycling coach. This coming year she will be running gravel camps with fellow Bentonviller, Paige Onweller. You can learn more about these camps and Crystal's coaching on her website www.crystaljanthony.com Follow Crystal on Instagram @crystaljanthony

Dylan also has questions for Josh on how some of the new "finds" and Silca products can be used at the pointy end of off-road racing. This is two Marginal Gainers sharing notes on another season of discovery and execution.

This week Kathryn and Kristi are catching up with Life Time Grand Prix athlete Caroline Tory from Aspen, Colorado. Caroline grew up in downtown Toronto but was always drawn to the mountains, and after attending college in Maine she moved to Colorado and dove head first into the outdoor lifestyle spending her time skiing and mountain biking. A collegiate runner, Caroline was no stranger to competition, so as she got more confident on her mountain bike competing in races was a natural progression. Caroline discovered that she was drawn to longer mountain and gravel cycling events, and her success in races gave her the confidence to apply for the Life Time Grand Prix in 2023, and she is taking on the series again in 2024. Off the bike Caroline runs the Literary Arts Program at the Aspen Institute, she gives her insights on balancing a demanding full time job and racing the Grand Prix, and answers the hard hitting questions; like if audiobooks count as reading.Follow Caroline on Instagram @ctory1
We're couldn't be more excited to announce a new partnership here at the Bounce Forward and Be Audacious. We're teaming up with one of the fastest (and baddest) men on two wheels, Cole Paton. The Bounce Forward as you know it isn't going anywhere, we'll still do long form, in depth conversations with athletes and performers, but we're going to add another layer with our new show within the show Roll On, Cole Paton. In this first episode of Roll On, Cole Paton, we take a deep dive into Cole's time in Bentonville for the final event of the 2024 Life Time Grand Prix—Big Sugar. We explore the mental challenges Cole had to hurdle, unable to race the final weekend of his season. In true Roll On and Bounce Forward fashion, Cole shares how he worked through being too sick to compete in the last big throw down of 2024 and how he's embracing the beginning of his off-season. With the show title, Roll On, we're giving a nod to Cole's path as one of the top off-road endurance cyclists in North America, staying true to what it looks like to ‘Bounce Forward,' while representing where we grew up, the Evergreen State, and the Columbia River watershed, ‘Roll On Columbia roll on,' if you know, you know. With Roll On, we're going to bring you stories from inside the game, inside the mind and inside the season of Cole Paton. We're going to consistently connect with Cole, checking in, unpacking things after the highs and lows of big events, like Leadville, any and all Life Time Grand Prix races and Marathon Worlds and Nationals, just to name a few. These conversations will be raw, real and vulnerable—and as a result, we believe, really powerful, adding value and telling some damn good stories. We'll also utilize this show as an opportunity for Cole to share any big announcements, or just riff, talk story and share what's on his mind. Our goal here is to share Cole's experiences afield with the world—with you, the listener. If you don't know Cole, you're about to, and I can tell you with 100% certainty, he's the real deal. We plan to bring some fresh perspective and strong energy—while keeping it light and loose. We're really passionate about this canvas we're painting, this connection we're building and this thing we're creating. We hope you'll join us on this journey. There was a point when Payson thought there were two Heather Jacksons racing the Grand Prix. How could one person excel in so many sports? The former hockey star who landed a spot on the Olympic track cycling team is now known mostly for her career as a star triathlete on the Ironman circuit. Lately, however, she's transitioned into gravel racing and ultrarunning, competing at the highest levels of both at the same time. Heather sat down with Payson before the final round of the Life Time Grand Prix to talk about why she started racing off-road events, what gravel racers can learn from ultrarunners, and how on earth she trains for two completely different sports simultaneously. She also talks about her early career as a hockey player, studying political science at Princeton, and why she still gets imposter syndrome on the start line of races. Ahead of Big Sugar Gravel, Betsy Welch sat down with Keegan Swenson to reflect on his season in the Life Time Grand Prix, his world championship aspirations, his affinity for going to metal and punk concerts when possible, and maybe most importantly, when the wedding is.
Zach Calton is a professional bike racer who recently transitioned to racing and coaching full-time after previously working at Specialized. He discussed his victory at the 2024 Point to Point race, where he set a new course record. Zach shared his strategic approach and how he was able to pull away for the win. Zach was recently invited to represent the United States at the Marathon World Championships, but was disappointed by the lack of support and funding provided by USA Cycling for the event. He feels this is an ongoing issue beyond just Olympic years. The hosts and Zach compared the difficulty of major endurance races like Leadville, Crusher, and Point to Point, with Zach considering Leadville to be the most challenging due to the extreme altitude. As a participant in the Lifetime Grand Prix race series, Zach shared his thoughts on the recent changes to the format, including the reduction in the number of participants. He would prefer to see the series expand rather than contract. Zach detailed his current sponsors and equipment, riding Ventum and Yeti bikes with Shimano components. He emphasized the importance of consistency and enjoyment in cycling as advice for the team members. Overall, this was an insightful conversation providing a glimpse into the life of a top professional cyclist.

This week we have another special episode for you with two Life Time Grand Prix athletes, who, off the bike, are experts in sports nutrition. Sarah Lange is a registered dietician, and Anna Hicks is a certified nutritionist. The pair discuss how mindset and diet culture can play into our fueling decisions as athletes, and why it is important for us to challenge those thoughts when they come up. They give us some concrete tips on how to build better nutrition practices around our training and racing, so that we can perform our best both on and off the bike, and also help break down some nutrition basics to help build a foundation of fueling for performance and success. On this week's episode, we're covering round five the Life Time Grand Prix which took place last weekend in Trinidad, Colorado. We hear from listeners who attended the race followed by Payson's breakdown of the current points standings and some of the possible podium scenarios that could unfold in the final round in Bentonville later this month. Payson also chats to two breakout riders at the Rad, Finn Gullickson and Cecily Decker. At just 24, Finn decided to step away from pursuing a road career in Europe to pursue off-road racing in the U.S. He talks about why he left road racing, the frustrating middle part of his 2024 season, and how he managed to place sixth overall and fifth in the Grand Prix points in Trinidad. Cecily is also a recent convert to gravel. Having been medically retired from ski racing while still in college, she quickly learned she had a talent for cycling. She tells Payson about when she knew she was fast on a bike, how a crash at Chequamegon dashed her hopes of a mid-season reset, and how she placed 3rd at the Rad. Before all that, however, Payson provides some life (and podcast) updates and shares some thoughts on this weekend's Gravel World Championships in Belgium.00:00:00 Introduction00:03:35 Life/podcast update00:08:30 Gravel World Championships 00:17:39 Listener recaps from the Rad00:23:01 Points analysis00:40:34 Finn Gullickson1:03:50 Cecily DeckerInstagram: @theadventurestacheYouTube: Payson McElveen

Melisa Rollins was born to race the Leadville 100; although if you had asked her in highschool if this was true, she would have disagreed. Melisa's parents have been racing the Leadville 100 MTB since she was just a year old, so the race runs deep in her blood. She herself has started the race seven times, and crossed the finish line 7 times, including in 2024 where she won the elite women's race. Melisa also completed the Lead Challenge in 2018, a series of 5 races in Leadville including both the 100 MTB and 100 Run races. A feat that most of us find hard just to wrap our heads around! Focussing on the bike, Melisa signed with Team Twenty24 in 2021 right after racing the Leadville 100 MTB that year, with a dream that she would one day come back and win the race. Supported by her team, Melisa raced in the Life Time Grand Prix in 2022, but stepped away for the 2023 season to focus on gaining race experience on the road circuit with her team. This has paid off for Melisa in dividends as she has returned to the Grand Prix in 2024. Following her win in Leadville this year, Melisa finished 9th at Chequamegon this past weekend and plans on finishing the season strong with two more events remaining in the Grand Prix.
