She has received numerous death threats and there is a warrant out for her arrest in Thailand for articles she published in the Samui Times after she investigated over a dozen suspicious backpacker deaths on the island of Koh Tao. An elite FBI hostage rescue team breached a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, Saturday night, safely recovering three remaining captives after a nearly 11-hour hostage situation, federal and local officials said. The lone suspect, identified by the FBI as 44-year-old Malik Faisal Akram, is dead, authorities said. British citizen, Nick Dunn is a former British Army Parachute Regiment soldier who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. After leaving Her Majesty's Forces, he continued to work in security. In October 2013, Nick was working as an armed security guard onboard the MV Seaman Guard Ohio alongside another 5 Brits who were also former British Army. Their mission was to protect the vessel from Somali pirates. A week later, Nick, the other guards and the crew were all arrested by the Indian coast guard and they were wrongfully imprisoned in India for 4 years. Nick and these other 5 Brits were collectively known as the Chennai 6.This week's episode is the final part of our three-part interview with Nick Dunn himself. Many people have heard Nick's story up to the point he came back home to the UK and was reunited with his family. Unfortunately, that's when Nick's real struggle began. When she was young, she decided the best strategy as a person of color in those circumstances was to become as small as possible in the hopes of going unnoticed. As a British Citizen, Jaz sees this trend in persons of color in America in which shrinking becomes a survival technique… or to go in the opposite direction and be driven exclusively by anger and vitriol.  The legacy and story she wants to tell is one of doing everything she can with the resources she has to shift from shrinking in fear to standing in hope and grace. Jaz holds that sometimes the hard work is simply having a curious conversation. It is looking for and being with people who are different than you. Her advice: Resist the craving to get closure in these moments, but instead keep engaging. Jaz brings a much needed light to this conversation. It is where you can start addressing unconscious bias. "For understandable and good reasons, people are protesting.”[18:49] Entice people with empathy, engage them in a conversation, and enroll them to your way of thinking. The idea of going straight to enrolling is wrong[22:16] Knowing what it is to have nothing can influence who you stand with and how you stand with them[26:11] - How do you manage to cross this chasm; on one side you are surviving and standing up against racial tension, and then on the other side you thrive in a hope for a better future? - what is the next step beyond where we are now?[27:14] The stages are suffer, survive, thrive, be alive and drive change. We tend to want to jump from a place of suffering to driving change, but the work must be put in to advance from each step. [31:49] When you move past suffering, surviving, and thriving, you see existence coinciding with real peace. It’s being alive[32:49] Driving change: Do, Engage, Be[33:14] If you are not ready to drive change, it is okay,  but you must own. Don’t blame external locus of controls.[40:56] - 2 Perspectives on racial discourse: How to navigate semantics respectfully as a white person, and how to resist closure/cancelling someone when they are not as careful as they could be.[42:18] When we engage, do we engage out of inspiration or out of desperation?

With a heavy focus on Cyber Security, Intelligence, Terrorism and Physical Security, with very operational roles in Latin America, Colombia/Venezuela border, Mexico and currently in Europe on the corporate side. Additionally Ben is a British Citizen, living in France with his family, he has first hand concerns about the upcoming March 29 BREXIT deadline and what that might mean for him and his family. We talk about the Yellow Jackets in France, the global rise in Populism and how he see’s the threat to businesses around the world just barely starting to deal with what might come of BREXIT and a reintegration of ISIS soldiers. We then move to South America, Venezuela and what that looks like, not only in Venezuela but across the Americas. Just how close is a war, how involved are the FARC, ELN (The Colombian Narco-Terrorist Organizations) with Maduro. This week's guest is Lora Swift, executive director of the West Seattle Junction Association. Lora is also the 2018 winner of the Westsider of The Year Award for her outstanding contribution to the West Seattle community. In 2002, Lora started Hotwire Coffee in the West Seattle Junction, firmly establishing herself as a valuable member and collaborator in the community. After running the business for many years, she made the bitter sweet decision to sell Hotwire Coffee and continued to follow her heart and enrolled in the Nonprofit Management Program at the University of Washington. Shortly after she was offered the job as the Executive Director for the Junction in August of 2016, where she continues to serve the West Seattle community. A little known fact about Lora, is that she is a British Citizen who came to the United States when she was 11 years old. She was processed in New York through JFK. She went back and forth between the US and England a few times before deciding to settle in the United States. Lora is a very involved in the community and an avid connector of community members and business owners. Lora ran the Outdoor Movies for 12 years as a volunteer and now continues to run the movies as a part of her current role at the Junction Association. Lora has always had a passion for the Junction and along with founding Hotwire, she has served on the Board of Directors for the West Seattle Junction Association and cofounded the West Seattle Art Walk and movie night.
