In this celebratory 150th episode of GRIT: The Real Estate Growth Mindset, host Brian Charlesworth welcomes Jon Cheplak for a powerful conversation on mental resilience, personal accountability, and building a business that lasts. In this special episode, Jon dives into the highs and lows of his career and shares how his journey from addiction to success shaped his approach to life and work. Jon discusses the critical role of mindset in today's market, emphasizing the power of discipline and responsibility. "Anything that you don't own, you can't change," he says, explaining why accountability is the first step to personal and professional growth. His story is a testament to the impact of daily habits, relentless focus, and a commitment to growth—even when the odds are stacked against you. This episode uncovers Jon's unique perspectives on leadership, his philosophy of “forced suffering” as a tool for mental strength, and the value of community in creating success. What is the single most important factor to a real estate business' growth? Is it having the best leads? Or having the best sales managers on the planet? How about having the most amazing systems and tech? While having all these would be great, none of them would matter if you don't have people. That is why focusing on human resource, human development, and human attraction is crucial for scaling a real estate business. Brian Charlesworth joins Jon Cheplak, Real Estate Broker/Agent Speaker, Coach and Consultant at Cheplak Live and CEO of The Real Recruiter as Jon shares how he discovered that his superpower is understanding human behavior and what it takes to be a true leader. He observed managers were thrown into a leadership position without proper training. The few training that existed then never focused on the growth of the leader as a human being and discovered what got in the way of their success. Through his own growth process, Jon realized that growth has to come from the inside. Managers need to develop skills, but without doing the work on the inside first, results will fail to show on the outside. This was when The Real Estate Recruiters was born. It is a company designed to serve, lead, and inspire leaders that want to have a positive life experience in the real estate industry and transfer that experience to their agents. For the last 12 years, Jon Cheplak has served as a speaker, coach, and strategic leadership consultant to CEO's, managers, and agents who are operating a highly successful real estate business throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He is also an author in numerous publications including Real Estate South Africa, REM Online, CRB Magazine, Brokers Insider, Real Estate Professional, Realty Times, Frogpond, and author of the book Interrupt The Pattern.

What is the biggest price you need to pay to grow your business.. …that many aren't willing to pay, and it will cost you NOTHING financially. Today the boundaries are limitless and marketing is almost free. You think about big media and there were these big barriers with dollars that you had to spend, you had to invest to get yourself seen. Now you can get seen at the highest levels for FREE or for a very, very low investment. Certainly there are very important places to be when marketing at a high level like TV and Radio If you look at some of the most elite performers in our industry, they are on radio and in doing some TV. I want to talk to you about the barriers that you're creating and all they are is just a big excuse. "I don't have money to spend. What can I do without money?" I've got news for you. Everyone that's doing big things didn't have money to start out with. So here's what I want you to think about. The number one most powerful, most impactful tool on the planet today is video. How much does it cost you to put your phone on selfie mode and hit the red button that scares the living daylights out of you? And you know what, those two exercises alone, putting your phone on selfie mode and actually pushing that red button is the biggest barrier that's keeping you from growing your business. Your Pride is the ultimate barrier. The ultimate price you have to pay is getting your pride out of the way. Let me say it again. The most expensive price you need to pay is getting your pride out of the way. What does it cost you to take your cell phone and put it in selfie mode and hit that red button? Nothing. What does it cost you to then take that video and post it on YouTube? Nothing. What does it cost you to take that video and put it on Instagram? Nothing. What does it cost you to take that video and put it on Facebook? It costs you nothing. "But now I have to boost it." No, you don't actually have to boost it. What does it cost you to take that video link and email it imbedded in a screenshot of the video? Nothing.

As business leaders, we tend to think of setbacks as private issues that need to be separate from our work lives. Is it possible to stop personal setbacks and challenges from affecting our teams’ productivity? Do we need to add more systems to our businesses in order to combat individual fears? On this episode, sought-after Real Estate speaker and coach, Jon Cheplak shares how we can overcome setbacks and turn them into positives. Doubling down on your personal development is the solution to business growth. -Jon Cheplak Takeaways + Tactics Remember that human beings are flawed by nature, and we all experience setbacks. No matter how skilled we are in the science of business, every one of our team members has experiences that shape their daily lives. Stop adding layers of systems to our businesses. Instead, we need to dive deeper into our emotions to develop ourselves and our team members. We need to embrace our past experiences. Without embracing our past, we can’t move forward. At the start of the episode, we acknowledged that all people go through traumas in life. We talked about the way we deal with our past traumas and how it shapes our future behaviors and actions. To be successful and enable our teams to be successful, we need to embrace every part of ourselves, even the parts impacted by trauma. We also shared insights on: How emotions can be a choice The importance of overcoming fear Why gratitude is not a feeling, but an action We’ve often been told our business and personal lives need to be separate, but that belief is unrealistic. Our personal lives influence the way we see the world, and no amount of effective business systems can combat the effects of traumas we’ve faced throughout our lives. We need to start looking deeper into ourselves, rather than add layers of systems that will only suffocate us further. Join me as I sit down with Kala Laos, a wildly successful and brilliant real estate agent turned Founder and CEO of JK Realty, one of the most progressive real estate companies in the industry. Kala clearly identified her vision of the experience she wanted to create and by doing so coupled with her brilliance and creativity has built an organization you will want to learn more about.
We continually search for the magic pill and have probably had it right before our eyes many times, but the reality is not in the new information you received, it's in the action you take around that information. The magic pill is in operating in specific, measurable, and actionable. The magic pill is in "How Much and By When"...getting out of the gray....a safe place...and moving into a place where there is tension and challenge that facilitates growth.
Join me as I sit down with Mike Prewett, founder, Century 21 Connect Realty in Atlanta, Georgia as he shares his journey of growth, leadership and productivity. In this interview Mike shares how he strategically and systematically attracts productive agents to his organization without using uncomfortable and outdated recruiting strategies. Mike will also share the sophisticated and consistent training program in place that drives the productivity of his organization.
Jon's live interview with Wade Webb, broker/owner of Royal LePage Kelowna. Wade shares some of the top strategies he uses to successfully recruit experienced real estate agents.
The shift in growth is to realize you are no longer in the real estate business, you are in the human resource business. Your job it to attract, retain, and develop human resource. Keith Leary explains how he had success in recruiting over 90 agents his first year as a branch manager.
The most daunting task is getting an audience of agents in the recruiting arena. If you go where they are in a manner that is based in value; 1. Making your prospecting calls will be a walk in the park. 2. Your call conversions to appointments will go up dramatically 3. More agents are going to join you because of your strategy and systems.
You are sitting in the driver's seat of the best time in history of the real estate industry. Why you may ask? Your marketing limits hold no boundaries, it's next to free with all the channels and platforms available to you, and the competition is playing right into your hand continuing to lead their marketing with hype.
Leads are not "good" or "bad", they are simply handled incorrectly. In this podcast I will discern the two, true types of leads; "marketing" leads and "sales" leads, and how to interact with them.
Lack of productivity for real estate agents and for most people is simply due to confusion. We talk of being in the information age when the experience is actually information overload. The constant changes and evolution of technology can hold you in a state of being paralyzed. Lack of action, simply put is what holds people back from productivity.
The consumer has more information than every before, they are at the top of the sales funnel, a large part of their research and decision is complete before they even engage with you, and the kicker; many consumers don't trust brands and media. So now what?
