Dr. Christy Sutton is interested in asking why health problems occur, what the root causes are,and what are the safest and most effective solutions to health problems are the foundation of her writing, teaching, and clinical practice. Her latest book “The Iron Curse”; is inspired by diagnosing her husband and many patients with hereditary hemochromatosis and iron-related health problems, takes a deep dive into hemochromatosis and other iron-related disorders. Her husband's hemochromatosis led to liver problems and likely led to the development of apituitary tumor that caused Cushing's disease. From her experience as a clinician, she has discovered that there is a silent epidemic of undiagnosed and untreated hemochromatosis, and this epidemic is being driven by myths, misperceptions, and a failure on the part of the medical community that should be diagnosing people with hemochromatosis: a disease that is easy to screen for, prevent, diagnose, and treat. “The Iron Curse”; course and upcoming book are powerful tools for ending the epidemic of undiagnosed and untreated hemochromatosis, and they give people the information they need to diagnose, prevent, and correct iron-induced damage. She is also creating cutting-edge Labrogenomics courses designed to help people learn more about labs, genes, and clinical pearls to optimize health. The topics include iron, gut and immune, Alzheimer's, and methylation. Dr. Christy Sutton

In this episode of ReInvent healthcare, I dive deep into more comprehensive blood testing and how to combine that with genetic testing. I also share how essential it is to personalize care and use a holistic approach based on genetics, appropriate testing, and a comprehensive health history, and lifestyle to effectively get a clear picture of the health of our clients. IN THIS EPISODE:The Importance of Comprehensive Blood Testing There is a significance of more extensive blood testing beyond what is traditionally done in medicine. Standard tests often do not provide a complete picture of a person's health, and a more comprehensive set of blood tests can help identify various risk factors and imbalances of our clients in order to help them better.Testing Before a DiagnosisDoctors should not wait until someone is diagnosed with a disease before conducting certain tests. Proactive testing is important to identify clients at risk of developing health issues, before they have received a formal diagnosis. Genetics in Blood TestingThere is a synergy between genetics and blood testing. Genetic markers can guide which blood tests are most appropriate for our clients and the results of blood tests can provide insights into a person's genetic predispositions, helping us as healthcare professionals tailor our recommendations and interventions accordingly.ReInvent Healthcare Links Get our FREE Guide to Taking a Detailed Health History that gets you to root causes.Access Additional Resources for Practitioners ready to improve clinical outcomes through our Nutritional Endocrinology Practitioner Training. In this episode of ReInvent healthcare, I dive deep into LDL Particles and what those mean for cardiovascular health. I also share how essential it is to personalize care and use a holistic approach based on genetics and lifestyle, and to examine a full lipid profile to effectively manage the cardiovascular health of our clients. IN THIS EPISODE:LDL Particles Are Not All the SameIt's essential to understand that not all LDL particles are created equal. LDL stands for low-density lipoproteins and plays a crucial role in transporting cholesterol and fats throughout the body. However, high levels of LDL, especially small, dense particles, can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases like atherosclerosis, heart disease, and strokes. As functional practitioners, it is important to understand this in order to tailor approaches for every individual.Particle Size MattersThe size and density of LDL particles matter when assessing cardiovascular risk. Smaller, denser LDL particles are more atherogenic and susceptible to oxidation, making them more harmful than larger, buoyant particles. These small particles are associated with higher triglyceride levels and often observed in individuals with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.Comprehensive Assessment Is KeyStandard lipid panels, which measure cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, are not enough to assess cardiovascular risk fully. Functional practitioners should consider advanced lipid panels that include particle size and number, assess for oxidized LDL, and examine Lp(a) lipoprotein. Dr. Christy Sutton is a chiropractor, who is interested in asking why health problems occur, what the root causes are, and what the safest and most effective solutions to health problems are the foundation of her writing, teaching, and clinical practice. Her personal health struggles and her desperation to find answers to her own serious health problems surrounding Crohn's and Celiac disease have led her down the alternative healthcare path and to look for ways to find and avoid genetic landmines. Her first book “Genetic Testing: Defining Your Path to a Personalized Health Plan”; and its corresponding “Genetic Detoxification”; report were the precursors to creating the Labrogenomics educational webinars and to write her upcoming book “The Iron Curse”. Her book “The Iron Curse”; is inspired by diagnosing her husband and many patients with hereditary hemochromatosis and iron-related health problems, and takes a deep dive into hemochromatosis and other iron-related disorders. Her husband's hemochromatosis led to liver problems and likely led to the development of a pituitary tumor that caused Cushing's disease. She has also created cutting-edge courses designed to help people learn more about labs, genes, and clinical pearls to optimize health. The topics include iron, gut health, immune health, Alzheimer's, and methylation. Read my review of the Iron Curse - Iron Curse Book Review My previous Iron Overload podcast episode was number 169. According to Dr Christy Sutton there is a silent epidemic of hemochromatosis. Increased iron absorption was an adaptation to olden times when we often spilled blood in battle and underwent famines. In this episode she talks about the two main gene mutations that cause it and how to find out if you're at risk. Her new course called The Iron Curse does a deep dive into iron related health issues including hemochromatosis, iron overload, anemia, and anemia of inflammation. Today I am fortunate to have Dr. Sutton. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Anatomy, and Health and Wellness in Texas State University and Parker University . She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University. Her serious personal health issues, such as being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16, drove her to pursue a career in health care. Her passions include supporting her patients in avoiding health problems and becoming as healthy and pain-free as possible without the use of medications or surgery. She is more interested with identifying and treating the underlying issue than with masking the symptoms. She now lives in Dallas, Texas, with her beloved husband and daughter. In this episode, Dr Christy talks about what epigenetic is and what it does to our gene. She also talks about why improving your methylation increase your advantage in fighting toxins. Furthermore, Dr Christy shares the methods on how we can lower our blood with effective methods. Aside from that, she debunks a myth about hemochromatosis gene and shows what really is the truth. Tune in as we chat about the epigenetic, obesity, methylation, how to lower iron level, and the life changing book, The Iron Curse. [01:04] Do You Know How to Influence Your Genes? That's What Epigenetic Means! Epigenetics is how the environment influences how your genes are turned on or off. It stands for “Beyond Genes” The environment is going to influence what genes get expressed, and what your health is like. Find your genetic landmines and avoid them. [7:59] Improve your Methylation and Increase Your Advantage in Fighting Toxins Methylation is adding a carbon group from basically one area to the other. Methylation changes the chemical structure which changes the epigenetics. There are seven different detox pathways. And methylation is a key one that's very important for hormones and toxins. The world we live in becomes more toxic, so we need to adapt and become smarter. You need Vitamin B to activate methylation gene. [15:33] The Iron Curse: A Book About Having High Iron and How To Fight It Dr Christy's journey of writing the book starts from his husband having hemochromatosis gene. Her husband were misdiagnosed by doctors, which puts his life to danger. Her husband goes through a brain surgery because of cushing. Dr Christy ultimately helps her husband heal [28:24] What are the Two Types of Hemochromatosis Gene? The two types of Hemochromatosis gene are C282Y and H63D. There is a medical misinformation about you cannot develop hereditary hemochromatosis with only one gene, and having H63D will not put you at risk. This information is a myth, and needed to be corrected. [40:47] Having A High Levels of Iron? Get It Down with These Methods! Donating blood is the fastest way to get your iron lower. Females tend to have low risk of having high iron in blood because of their menstrual cycle. Drinking green tea and coffee also helps in decreasing iron. Taking Curcumin supplement binds iron, which ultimately lowers it down. It also helps protect and heal your organs. [50:14] How to Protect Your Heart Using Curcumin, Quercetin And Resveratrol Supplements Quercetin helps to increase hepcidin for you to absorb less iron. Resveratrol is extremely protective for the heart against iron induced damage. After donating a blood, your heart rate variability is going to increase, and your resting heart rates is going to decrease because you've just decreased the stress off your body. High iron causes the skin to get dark. AND MUCH MORE! In the latest episode of The Flip N' Shift Podcast, my guest is Dr. Christy Sutton. Dr. Christy Sutton of Sutton Chiropractic, Nutrition and Applied Kinesiology. Dr. Sutton choses to treat patients with Holistic Care. Reason being, Dr. Sutton learned from personal experience that it is too easy to be fooled into thinking you are better, temporarily, only to find yourself much worse later down the line with the same unresolved problem. Therefore, She has made it her mission to treat the whole person rather than focusing on only one part, which runs the risk of missing the big picture. Dr. Sutton's goal is to provide the highest quality of care to all her patients, and to approach each individual by using the highest ethics, integrity and professional standards. In addition, she will always respect the inherent healing processes of the body, and give patients her heart, knowledge, and soul every day. Sometimes people with hemochromatosis are misdiagnosed as having other disorders, including arthritis, diabetes, heart problems, liver/gallbladder disease, or various stomach disorders. What have you seen in your practice regarding these findings?" Dr. Sutton's response: "Fatigue, infertility, depression, bipolar, serious liver damage, skin rashes, joint pain, cardiovascular disease, afib.. There are more. I have documented over 150 diseases in my research that is in the book. If I looked closer then I could probably find more in my patients, but we are mostly forced on treatments at the point of diagnosis. We always refer to a hematologist, but are still focused on giving people the tools they need to improve their health." A CBC (Complete Blood Count) is a standard test that helps identify different health conditions. While the CBC is commonly used as an indicator to test for anemia and iron deficiency, taking a closer look at the blood components can reveal more serious conditions like autoimmune diseases. So how would you know if there's any cause for alarm? Today's episode is from Dr. Kylie's CBC workshop with practitioners. In this workshop, she walks participants through interpreting CBC results, what it means when a specific marker falls outside the standard range, and the recommended steps to eradicate different types of infection. More importantly, she points out the indicators for autoimmune diseases, which many people suffer from. If you provide healthcare in whatever capacity (chiropractor, massage therapist, etc.), imagine how learning to interpret CBC results can elevate your practice. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Sutton. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, Anatomy, and Health and Wellness from Texas State University and Parker University. She earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University. She was drawn to health care because of her extensive personal health struggles, which includes being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16. Her interests lie in helping her patients prevent health problems, and assisting them in becoming as healthy and pain-free as possible without the use of drugs or surgery. She is focused on diagnosing and correcting the underlying problem rather than masking the symptoms. She currently lives and practices in Dallas, Texas with her loving husband and daughter. In this episode, Dr. Sutton talks about her Chron's disease diagnosis and getting to the bottom of the root cause. Then, we jump into homocysteine and what your optimal range should be. Dr. Sutton explains the difference between the genes you are born with and epigenetics. Plus, Dr. Sutton talks all about APOE and its correlation with Alzheimer's disease. Tune in as we chat about getting quality sleep, how fasting can help with head injuries, and what to do after getting your genetic test results. 23andMe Genetic Testing: https://refer.23andme.com/s/ben4 90 Day Detox Program: http://www.ketokampdetox.com Order Keto Flex: http://www.ketoflexbook.com -------------------------------------------------------- / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. [00:45] Finding The Root Cause of Chron's Disease Instead of Treating Symptoms At 16, Dr. Sutton was diagnosed with Chron's disease. The doctors diagnosed her by removing part of Dr. Sutton's small intestine. Unfortunately, they never told her anything about diet or lifestyle. Eventually, Dr. Sutton figured out that certain foods would cause a problem. Dr. Sutton put herself on a gluten-free and dairy-free diet. [07:40] About Homocysteine and Your Optimal Range Homocysteine is this amino acid that we all have. If you have too much, it's a problem. If you do not have enough, it's a problem. Unfortunately, the range on lab work is way too large. You should be in the six to eight range. If you're above an eight on homocysteine, you are high. This means you have some cardiovascular damage, and it will increase your risk for dementia-related issues. [12:10] The Difference Between The Genes We're Born With and Epigenetics The genes you are born with are the cards that you are dealt. You can't change the genes that you are born with. Epigenetics is how your environment is going to influence those chains. You can do something about pretty much every genetic situation. [16:15] The Correlation Between APOE Genes and Alzheimer's Disease The APOE3 gene is most common. About 75% of people have that; it is considered neutral as far as Alzheimer's disease goes. If you have the APOE4 gene, you are at an increased risk for Alzheimer's. APOE2 is pretty rare; only five percent of the population has it. APOE2 is protected against Alzheimer's disease. [19:35] Preventing Alzheimer's Disease: Eating Right For Your APOE4 Gene APOE4 genotypes are at an increased risk for atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis can accelerate dementia and Alzheimer's disease. If you have APOE4, you should eat a Mediterranean-type diet. Intermittent fasting is really good for people with APOE4. If you eat earlier in the day and finish eating earlier in the day, you may have better results. [23:40] The Importance of Quality Sleep When It Comes To Your Health The top priority is to fix your sleep. If you aren't getting good sleep, then you can't handle anything else. Everything is so much easier if you have the energy to do it. So, if you're not sleeping through the night, that's something you need to fix as soon as possible. Everything will be more difficult if you are not getting quality sleep. [28:50] After Getting Your Genetic Test, Check Out Genetic Detoxification There are a lot of different genetic tests on the market. 23andMe is very common. Learn more about 23andMe here: https://refer.23andme.com/s/ben4 If you get 23andMe done, Dr. Sutton says you can create a genetic detoxification report from her website. Check out her website, Genetic Detoxification: https://geneticdetoxification.com/ [31:40] When You're Fasting, Your Body Will Repair Itself Much Faster If you have the APOE4 gene, you will have more damage from head injuries. This is why it's key to know what your genotype is. A critical part of healing after a concussion is fasting. You need to fast for 24 hours after a head injury. Ketones are the reason for the decreased damage to the cerebral cortex. [37:15] Start With The Fundamentals To Turn Your Health Around Everything comes down to eating right, exercise, sleep, and mental health. A lot of people are totally unaware of how unhealthy they are. As you get older, it's more difficult to fix health challenges. Dr. Sutton says to start with the fundamentals when it comes to your health journey. AND MUCH MORE!
