In honour of Endometriosis Awareness Month (March) today's episode is a replay from Episode 6, where I talk about nutrition. This is a huge topic, but I wanted to introduce the general nutrition principles related to 1) improving your Endometriosis symptoms and 2) optimising your body so you are ready to get pregnant and then sustain a healthy pregnancy. There are a lot of similarities between these two objectives, but also there can be some conflicting ways of approaching nutrition, meaning that many women with Endometriosis can follow the ‘Endo-diet' to reduce inflammation but end up under-nourished or further under-nourished, which will not help you in getting pregnant. So, here are some of the things I talk about are: What is a ‘diet' and what is the ‘endo-diet'? What foods could actually be an issue and why? Six key principles I recommend to clients to follow PLUS, three things I always do when working with my Endo Fertility coaching clients Mentioned links Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity: piecing the puzzle together: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4406911/  Endo Fertility links and resources: Join my Endo Fertility community! Plant Based Eating Made Easy | Simple Strategies & Clear Nutrition Guidance to Transform Your Health | Dietitian, Plant Based

There's a common concern I see among those wanting to start a plant-based diet lifestyle. And it's this. It's a fear that eating this way will cause them to seriously lack key nutrients, because they're taking out meats, dairy, eggs and other animal-based foods from their meals. Do you have this fear too?   If so, iron might be one of those nutrients you are especially worried about when making this big lifestyle shift. Since meats are a source of iron, it's natural then to be wondering, “Will eating plant-based make me end up with nutrient deficiencies and get health problems like iron deficiency anemia?”   Let's talk about it. In this episode, we'll look at the importance of iron for our bodies, how common iron deficiency anemia really is, and what the recent research is showing. That way, we can better answer this question. Have you considered the role of hepcidin in regulating your low iron levels? Hepcidin is the master iron regulating hormone. Hepcidin binds to and blocks ferroportin, an iron export protein, blocking it from iron and preventing it's absorption. In simpler terms it changes the amount of available iron receptors in the small intestines that can absorb iron.   Book a discovery call   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ About Jennifer Harrington Jen is a Naturopath, Nutritionist, and Medical Herbalist. People are told by well-meaning traditional medical practitioners that if ferritin (iron) is low, then they should take iron supplements – what could be the problem with this? IRON Beware of low iron in children. It is important in brain development. There may be many causes to their fatigue, lack of ability to focus, or ADHD, and low iron may be one of them. Our children often have heavy metals in their bodies and levels of lead may also be elevated if there is a deficiency in iron. Proper enzymatic activity is critical and iron also helps assist the many functions associated with it. These enzymes are necessary for proper functioning of iron and are often not working properly due to the presence of aluminum in the body. Why Too Much Iron Is Bad On the other hand, we do not want excess iron in the body because it can cause oxidation and inflammation. Yeast and intestinal bacteria can use excess iron to their advantage, and it can be overall immunosuppressive. Iron can help strengthen pathogenic (bad) bacteria in the gut.  Too much iron in the body can increase the damage from excitotoxicity due to glutamate. If your child has weak liver or kidneys, check with your healthcare practitioner regarding his iron levels as too much can be dangerous for him. Diabetics should also be very cautious with excessive iron.  Studies show excessive iron can cause increased susceptibility to infection, immune abnormalities, inflammation of the stomach lining, and ulcers.  Taking iron in supplement form as excess iron can promote viruses to grow-it is best to get it from food sources. ANEMIA It is common for those with imbalanced gut flora to be anemic. Anemia is when there are a lowered number of red blood cells in the body. Our kids often look pasty white and can be lethargic and weak most of the time. One likely culprit is the lack of iron, but it takes much more than iron to balance anemia. Healthy blood needs almost all of the B vitamins, vitamin C, A and D, amino acids, along with multiple minerals, including magnesium, manganese, iodine, copper and zinc... Low iron in children is more common than you might think. Many kids have low iron stores, or they may struggle to build their iron levels up.Iron deficiency is something we see a lot here at Natural Super Kids – whether we spot it in their presenting symptoms, or it's the primary reason that their parents seek our advice. For many kids, boosting up iron levels is not as simple as taking a supplement. It's important to address the underlying causes to see significant improvements. In this podcast episode, I will be sharing:The signs and symptoms of low iron in children;Causes of low iron in children including how maternal iron deficiency can affect children, plus much more. How to check iron levels in children, including testing; Food sources of iron, and what you need to know about heme vs non-heme sources plus information regarding how they are absorbed differently in the body; What you can do to improve absorbability, and what inhibits iron absorption. Which supplements are best for your child, as well as dosage, best forms of iron and why it's not a good idea to supplement if you don't have a deficiency. Hello beautiful podcast listeners and welcome to this week's episode. In today's conversation I speak with Alison, about her experience developing postnatal depression and anxiety after the birth of her first daughter. Alison was left recovering from her birth with undiagnosed and severely low iron levels. Couple that with a baby who would only sleep whilst being held, sleep deprivation and feeling like she could not talk about how hard things were getting, Alison's PND and PNA symptoms worsened and she was admitted to an inpatient early parenting unit. 3 years on and Alison has learnt to prioritise her self care, plan things in the diary to look forward to and is grateful for the small things in life. I loved recording this episode, and I hope you enjoy listening too. In today's episode Elly and I take a deep dive into addressing the root cause of low iron. It's one of the most prevalent conditions that we see in clinic at TNN, which, as you'll learn, reflects the prevalence globally. We discuss those at risk for low iron, how test results are being misinterpreted, both due to our standard pathology reference ranges and the incorrect use of ferritin, the problem with many of the band aid solutions offered by conventional medicine and most importantly, what can be done to address the root cause. In this episode I chat to Kellee @littlehumanlinens about her fourth pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Kellee's first three waterbirths were really positive experiences and you can hear her discuss them in . When I first interviewed her she was deep in her third postpartum and experiencing severe postnatal depletion which affected every aspect of her life. Today she talks in detail about that time, the day she discovered she was pregnant again and the depth of her despair as she wrestled with what life would be like with four children. She chose to be proactive with her health and wellbeing by prioritising simple self-care habits every single day throughout pregnancy. She also planned a six-week postpartum and is now reaping the physical, emotional and energetic benefits. I'm counting down the weeks till my new book, The Complete Australian Guide to Pregnancy and Birth, is published. We all know how important physical health is to living a great life, and building a thriving business. BUT did you know how interlinked MENTAL + PHYSICAL health actually is? I have learned this lesson now twice in my life. Once back in 2020 when I was diagnosed with SIBO - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth - and last week when I diagnosed myself with LOW IRON. I had been struggling again with feeling no energy, fatigued, anxious, emotional, depressed, tired… I thought this was all entirely mental health related, only to be reminded yet AGAIN that the real issue was my PHYSICAL HEALTH. Low iron. Today, I'm sharing all about what I have learned over the past 2 years about physical health, gut health, SIBO, low iron + how these things impact our mental health. Let's talk about the importance of TUNING IN + checking on our health regularly and why people who recognise when they “need help” actually have the greatest capacity for health in the long run! In this episode, you'll learn: *Why physical health is so important to your life + business *How physical health impacts your mental health *What gut health has to do with mental health *My experience with SIBO and low iron, and working with a functional health/integrative health/wholistic doctor. *Why health is a journey and not something we need to get “perfect” *How the health + wellness industry (and the personal development + spiritual industries) are NEGATIVELY impacting our health journeys *Why “sick people” might actually have ‘the secret'. This episode is perfect for anyone interested in the topic of HEALTH. Established business owner looking for support as you grow your business? You could be having digestive problems, menstruating for women, or you're not eating the right foods to source iron or adequately absorb it. So if your body doesn't have enough iron, it won't get enough oxygen, and your cells (powered by oxygen) won't function efficiently. Suppose you're experiencing symptoms of iron deficiency. In that case, Dr. J and Evan suggest consuming vitamin C to help increase iron absorption, eat iron-rich plant foods, and have yourself tested to have comprehensive test results and fix your health issues.  ===================================== Subscribe on I-Tunes: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/itunes Review us at: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/itunes Visit us at: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com Have a question: http://www.beyondwellnessradio.com/question

Today we meet Zara from central Queensland and talk to her about her two births. Zara's VBAC journey began with Darcy who was a planned caesarean due to his breech positioning. The caesarean itself wasn't traumatic, but it was what happened afterwards that left Zara feeling like she could not go through childbirth again. She experienced post natal depression following this birth.Zara's heart eventually opened to the possibility of having another baby and when the time came she felt a deep desire to have a VBAC, doing everything in her power to give herself the best opportunity including securing continuity of care through her local hospital's midwifery group practice (MGP). The end of Zara's pregnancy presented some challenges which Zara admirably rose to, but once labour was underway Zara experienced what we all are aware of going into labour after caesarean, but feel hopeful won't happen to us- a uterine rupture.A uterine rupture can occur in any labour but it is more common in women who have a scar on their uterus from a previous caesarean. We are told 1 in 200 or 0.5% of women labouring after one caesarean will have a uterine rupture, which means about 99.5% of women won't.There have been other studies that have found the uterine rupture rate to be even lower, for example 0.2% and 0.1%An Australian study, Dekker et al 2010, went even further and found that the risk of uterine rupture during VBAC was 0.15% in spontaneous labour, increasing to 0.88% in an induced labour with prostaglandin and oxytocin, and 1.91% in an augmented labour.Of the women who do experience a uterine rupture, 6% of those are considered catastrophic, therefore 94% are considered asymptomatic, and this is what Zara experienced. While Zara's story doesn't end with a vaginal delivery she speaks about how she is finding peace with this and the fact that she would do it all over again despite her experience. Her advice to believe in yourself, to educate ourselves about uterine rupture and to understand the risks is inspiring. We hope that her story is a valuable and informative resource for you all on your VBAC journey and a useful tool in understanding what can transpire during uterine rupture in labour. ~ Notes ~You may connect with Zara on Instagram @zaramartin__Studies quoted and associated links can be found in the following article by Dr Rachel Reed:https://midwifethinking.com/2016/06/15/vbac-making-a-mountain-out-of-a-molehill/Post Natal Depression/Anxiety and Birth Trauma support: If you or anyone you know is affected by PND symptoms particularly at this time of COVID-19 please don't hesitate to contact the following support networks. The Gidget Foundationhttps://gidgetfoundation.org.au/get-support/PANDAhttps://www.panda.org.au/info-support/pandas-national-perinatal-anxiety-depression-helplineBeyond Bluehttps://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/get-immediate-supportCopehttps://www.cope.org.au**VBAC Birth Stories features women's lived experiences. I am in the process of reading Peptide Protocols and have something that is causing me confusion. On several of the GHRPs the dosing looks like this, which seem like a HUGE amount. Can you clarify? Particularly CJC and IpamorelinQuestion : having 51 amino acids would put insulin in the category of a polypeptide instead of a peptide? . Btw , loved your book, super informative.Hi I’ve been watching your YouTube videos. My nephew has hyper-mobility Ehlers danlos that we didn’t know he had until last year. Age 26. We believe it came on strong after cipro and gadolinium toxicity. For the last year and a half he’s in chronic pain and can barely walk because of Achilles tendinitis. He has gotten no relief. He can is very complex. Has dr seeds seen and have successfully treated these things? Thank you. Desperately seeking answers.Hi Dr Seeds. I listened to your podcast about back pain and with the athlete with the neck problem, thanks it was very informative and gives me hope in healing my own injuries. Do you recommend any peptides for lumbar disc herniations? I have a problem at l5/S1.I understand these are more tricky to heal as they are avascular.Hi I wanted to ask about how BPC 157 works in terms not how it promotes angiogenesis/ the forming of new blood vessels. Is this effect systematic as in blood vessels are created everywhere in the body or just at the site of injury for example? Here's an interesting question: I've known women in my life who have suffered from heavy menstruations accompanied by chronically low iron, ringing in the ears etc, where iron supplementation does some to little benefit. I'm guessing that some or much of this could be due to a hormonal imbalance. Can peptide therapy ameliorate these issues?Medical Disclaimer: The medical treatments discussed in this channel are not intended for a diagnosis or prescription for viewers. Particularly, if you want to ensure you are able to absorb your nutrients adequately enough so you have the necessary nutrient stores in your body so you can get pregnant. So, here are the things I talk about in Part 1 of this subject: Symptoms of low or high stomach acid Biology of the stomach Explanation of what gastric acid is 5 reasons why stomach acid is so important Relationship between low stomach acid, nutrient absorption and fertility How low stomach acid can cause pelvic inflammation and contribute to making Endometriosis worse Then in Part 2, in two weeks, I will explain the causes of low stomach acid, how to test for low stomach acid, and what you can do naturally to increase your stomach acid levels. In today’s episode I talk about nutrition. This is a huge topic, but I wanted to introduce the general nutrition principles related to 1) improving your Endometriosis symptoms and 2) optimising your body so you are ready to get pregnant and then sustain a healthy pregnancy. There are a lot of similarities between these two objectives, but also there can be some conflicting ways of approaching nutrition, meaning that many women with Endometriosis can follow the ‘Endo-diet’ to reduce inflammation but end up under-nourished or further under-nourished, which will not help you in getting pregnant. So, here are some of the things I talk about are: What is a ‘diet’ and what is the ‘endo-diet’? What foods could actually be an issue and why? In this episode, a parent shares that at a recent pediatrician visit with her 9 month old son, the doctor mentioned that his iron was low. The pediatrician went on to recommend that this mother reduce the amount of breastmilk and increase the amount of food she offers her son to compensate for the low iron levels. She is concerned with this advice as she thought that breastmilk should be the main source of calories for her 9 month old. She is confused about whether or not to change her feeding routines with her son, and is looking for advice.

Zsuzsanna Emese Budapest was born in Budapest, Hungary, during a big winter storm on January 30, 1940. Her mother, Masika Szilagyi, was a medium and a practicing witch who supported herself and her daughter with her art, as a sculptress. Masika’s themes always celebrated the Triple Goddess and the Fates, and Zsuzsanna, “Z,” grew up respecting and appreciating Mother Nature as a god. Z has led rituals, lectured, taught classes, given workshops, written articles tirelessly, and published in hundreds of women’s newspapers across the country. She has powerfully influenced many of the future teachers and writers about the Goddess. The California Institute for Integral studies in San Francisco recognized Z’s contribution to Women’s Spirituality Movement. Today Z lives in Santa Cruz, California, giving workshops and lectures but always making time to smell the roses. What we put into our bodies has a profound impact on our ability to train effectively. In short, if you care about you running, you have to care about your eating habits. And I've brought a Registered Dietitian on the SR Podcast to help. Over the last few weeks, I've surveyed the Strength Running Twitter and Facebook communities about dieting, weight loss, nutrition, and race fueling. I collected about a dozen of the best questions and got my friend Anne Mauney to help me answer them for you. Anne worked with me to create one of SR's flagship programs, Nutrition for Runners. She's one of the busiest RD's I know with a private practice in Washington, DC and a popular lifestyle blog. She also gives healthy eating presentations and workshops to organizations like Whole Foods. Her work has been featured in Glamour, Self, The Washington Post, and Fitness Magazine. When she's not helping athletes improve their diets, she's usually running around DC or tackling yet another half marathon. There are also two more Q&A podcasts that we did together - download them here for free. On this episode, we cover a lot of questions: What foods fight inflammation? What foods increase iron levels? Is it ok to drink alcohol while you're training for a race? What's an optimal pre-marathon fueling strategy? Are carbs from bread or pasta "better" than those from starchy vegetables? What are your favorite healthy snack ideas? Enjoy!
