On today's show, I'll break down why you can still have low iron despite “normal” test results. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Bettina: Hi Dr. Cabral, I live in Denmark and unfortunately I'm unable to purchase the Chi Vitalizer Machine Original. I'm therefore looking for a great alternative. Are you familiar with the Sun Ancon Chi Machine (Original), developed by Dr. Shizuo Inoue in Japan? It has a fixed speed of 140 swings per minute and features a durable AC motor. What do you consider important when choosing a Chi machine? Thanks for all that you do. Ann: Hi Dr. Cabral :) If no one has told you today you are very much appreciated :) I sometimes struggle with getting my sauna sessions in in the summer months. If I go for a run and come back super sweaty (staying in Zone 2-3 cardio range for 30-45 minutes) is that having the same effects as my infrared sauna? Hoping to be able to count it as a session! Thank you in advance! Spencer: Hello Dr. Cabral, I'm currently overwhelmed by my situation. I've ran the big 5 as well as some Gi testing, and have found that I have dysbiosis, SIBO, chronic stress, mycoxtoin (mold exposure at work), and trauma. Not sure what happened to me at a young age, but my mom told me I stopped eating fruits and veggies at a young age, and I never tried eating them until more recently at 34 years old. I'm suffering every symptom in the book. I tried the CBO 2 years ago without any success, because the stress I was under was too much. I've began working on my nervous system and I've started IHP Level 1. I feel like it's just so many things stacked against me, especially the mental/spiritual side, which I feel is holding me back from everything and I don't know what to do. I'm down to a few foods. Spencer: Follow up. The mold rabbit hole is growing every week and it seems like it can cause every single symptom down to the nervous system dysregulation and sibo and chronic stress and everything, and If I can't get out of the environment it seems insurmountable. I also don't even know how much of an issue it's causing to my issues because I have so many. It could just be overflowing the rain barrel. I'm a boxing trainer and have to train clients all day and I have no energy left in the tank. I've began IHP to work my way out of this current career, but need some help in the interim. My body is so taxed I can't workout, sauna, or do really anything at this point… Ellen: I am a 65 year old female. Had an iron panel test done. My Ferritin is 74 which is in normal range, but my serum iron is low at 34, when the normal range is 50-212. The saturation is 13 when the normal range is 20-50. The TIBC is 270 which seems to be in the normal range. Not sure what this means. I have low hemoglobin at 11.3 and borderline low hematocrit at 34.9. I take an iron supplement but just wondering why my body doesn't seem to be absorbing it. One more thing is that I have a high platelet level at 475 when the range is 140-375. 294: If you struggle with candida, are low in iron or have been diagnosed with anemia, or perhaps you're pregnant and have been told to take iron supplements, I urge you to listen to this episode before taking additional steps. Morley Robbins is back after 2 years of initially being on my podcast back in 2023 and we dive into the confusing topic of why so many are anemic despite getting iron infusions, taking iron supplements, and even eating red meat and liver without any improvements. This episode may be the answer you're looking for when it comes to iron deficiency. In fact, you probably have an overload of iron but are missing other elements in your diet that facilitate iron absorption and iron in the blood vs. iron in the tissue. Just like certain vitamins are fat soluble which means you need fat to be able to absorb those vitamins, iron needs other co-factors to be able to be utilized properly. Oh, and I know I mentioned candida! And if you have candida, most likely you are anemic and if you're anemic, you probably have candida! This is not a doom and gloom episode, but quite an inspiring one because this gives hope and insight to those looking for answers. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Bryan: Hi Dr C. A couple weeks ago I noticed a skin rash running up the side of my back and on both sides of my lower abdomen. I chalked it up as a fluke and it went away for a while. Until this morning. I figured out the culprit seems to be my portable steam sauna which I have in my room. I've been using a steam sauna for years and never had this happen before. Wish I could upload a photo but is there anything you could recommend for this kind of problem? It doesn't hurt, the skin just feels warm and looks red. Could it be Rosacea? Appreciate any insight. Best, Andy: Hey any idea how to cure eye floaters I haven't seen any protocols on how to cure them? Deanna: Thank you for your informative podcast and for sharing your expertise. My two-year-old son has been diagnosed with Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) to oars, and I'm seeking guidance on potential triggers or the best approach to testing and managing this condition. For some context, he also has IgE-mediated food allergies to peanuts, certain tree nuts, and eggs and eczema so I thought the gut could be a place to start. I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you may have. Thank you in advance for your help! Lana: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for taking the time to answer the community questions, very much appreciate this gift. My daughter is 8 years old and I have found a couple of grey hairs in her head, root to tip. Why could this be? Anonymous: In the last two years, I've been through all the protocols. Labs are looking good. Continually working on stress reduction. I sleep well, move a lot, eat a healthy diet with lots of grass fed/finished beef from our ranch, dark greens, try to eat the rainbow. I'm taking Cardio, Vision, Cell Boost, multi, omegas, balanced zinc, magnesium. I keep constantly get light headed every time i move too fast, winded easily, yawn a lot. After your episode on low iron, I just ran blood labs and my iron (29), ferritin (3), iron sat (7%) hematocrit (33.7%), hemoglobin (9.8), MCH (23.6), MCHC (29.1), RDW (19.6%), and Alk Phos (14) are all really low. I am not sure what else could be causing these low levels; I have struggled for many years. any advice is appreciated. In honour of Endometriosis Awareness Month (March) today's episode is a replay from Episode 6, where I talk about nutrition. This is a huge topic, but I wanted to introduce the general nutrition principles related to 1) improving your Endometriosis symptoms and 2) optimising your body so you are ready to get pregnant and then sustain a healthy pregnancy. There are a lot of similarities between these two objectives, but also there can be some conflicting ways of approaching nutrition, meaning that many women with Endometriosis can follow the ‘Endo-diet' to reduce inflammation but end up under-nourished or further under-nourished, which will not help you in getting pregnant. So, here are some of the things I talk about are: What is a ‘diet' and what is the ‘endo-diet'? What foods could actually be an issue and why? Six key principles I recommend to clients to follow PLUS, three things I always do when working with my Endo Fertility coaching clients Mentioned links Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity: piecing the puzzle together: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4406911/ Endo Fertility links and resources: Join my Endo Fertility community! There's a common concern I see among those wanting to start a plant-based diet lifestyle. And it's this. It's a fear that eating this way will cause them to seriously lack key nutrients, because they're taking out meats, dairy, eggs and other animal-based foods from their meals. Do you have this fear too? If so, iron might be one of those nutrients you are especially worried about when making this big lifestyle shift. Since meats are a source of iron, it's natural then to be wondering, “Will eating plant-based make me end up with nutrient deficiencies and get health problems like iron deficiency anemia?” Let's talk about it. In this episode, we'll look at the importance of iron for our bodies, how common iron deficiency anemia really is, and what the recent research is showing. Have you considered the role of hepcidin in regulating your low iron levels? Hepcidin is the master iron regulating hormone. Hepcidin binds to and blocks ferroportin, an iron export protein, blocking it from iron and preventing it's absorption. In simpler terms it changes the amount of available iron receptors in the small intestines that can absorb iron. People are told by well-meaning traditional medical practitioners that if ferritin (iron) is low, then they should take iron supplements – what could be the problem with this? IRON Beware of low iron in children. It is important in brain development. There may be many causes to their fatigue, lack of ability to focus, or ADHD, and low iron may be one of them. Our children often have heavy metals in their bodies and levels of lead may also be elevated if there is a deficiency in iron. Proper enzymatic activity is critical and iron also helps assist the many functions associated with it. These enzymes are necessary for proper functioning of iron and are often not working properly due to the presence of aluminum in the body. Why Too Much Iron Is Bad On the other hand, we do not want excess iron in the body because it can cause oxidation and inflammation. Yeast and intestinal bacteria can use excess iron to their advantage, and it can be overall immunosuppressive. Iron can help strengthen pathogenic (bad) bacteria in the gut. Too much iron in the body can increase the damage from excitotoxicity due to glutamate. If your child has weak liver or kidneys, check with your healthcare practitioner regarding his iron levels as too much can be dangerous for him. Diabetics should also be very cautious with excessive iron. Studies show excessive iron can cause increased susceptibility to infection, immune abnormalities, inflammation of the stomach lining, and ulcers. Taking iron in supplement form as excess iron can promote viruses to grow-it is best to get it from food sources. ANEMIA It is common for those with imbalanced gut flora to be anemic. Anemia is when there are a lowered number of red blood cells in the body. Our kids often look pasty white and can be lethargic and weak most of the time. One likely culprit is the lack of iron, but it takes much more than iron to balance anemia. Healthy blood needs almost all of the B vitamins, vitamin C, A and D, amino acids, along with multiple minerals, including magnesium, manganese, iodine, copper and zinc... Following on from Elise's first birth story in episode 208, today she shares her second pregnancy and birth with baby Bobby. Before she conceived, she experienced a prolapse for the first time and talks about the shock of it and the fear instilled by incorrect information. She finally sought professional guidance from a women's health physiotherapist who helped her realise that she's been doing her pelvic floor exercises incorrectly her entire life. Much like her first pregnancy, Elise intuitively knew when she would conceive and although her pregnancy was challenging - nausea, vomiting, insomnia and low immunity - she enjoyed the final weeks of the third trimester and decided at the last minute to have a home waterbirth. Elise is so generous in sharing her most vulnerable moments and reiterates the importance of trusted midwives to encourage and support you. --------------------- Prepare for a positive birth experience with my new book .

In this episode I chat to Kellee @littlehumanlinens about her fourth pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Kellee's first three waterbirths were really positive experiences and you can hear her discuss them in . When I first interviewed her she was deep in her third postpartum and experiencing severe postnatal depletion which affected every aspect of her life. Today she talks in detail about that time, the day she discovered she was pregnant again and the depth of her despair as she wrestled with what life would be like with four children. She chose to be proactive with her health and wellbeing by prioritising simple self-care habits every single day throughout pregnancy. She also planned a six-week postpartum and is now reaping the physical, emotional and energetic benefits.
