At least 62 are known to have died after torrential rain caused devastating flash floods in Valencia south-eastern Spain. Spanish weather service AEMET reported that Chiva, in the Valencia region, recorded 491mm of rain in just eight hours on Tuesday - the equivalent to a year's worth of rain. Gibraltarian Jason Goldwin says it's a sad day for his adopted city Valencia, which has been the worst hit by the flash floods.Whilst the worst of the weather has affected the southeastern Spain, Gibraltar has certainly felt the heavy rains too. Zoe Hutton from the Met Office explained what we can expect over the coming days.Cultural Services was "very saddened" that a mural was vandalised at Prince Edward's Gate, but is it part of a wider problem with graffiti and a lack of civic pride? We explored the topic with Janet Howitt of the Environmental Safety Group and Finlay Savignon Watson, who volunteers for the Nautilus Project. And, there are changes at the RGP, with both the Drugs Squad and the Community Police team being disbanded, due to resourcing issues. We were delighted to welcome Angela Kilmartin, a former conservative district councillor for Witham Town and Braintree, to this week's That's Debatable podcast. In this refreshingly frank discussion, Angela eloquently recounts the story of how she was formally investigated for expressing on her private Facebook account, her opposition to the flying of pride flags . At the end of the process, the district council's monitoring officer advised Angela to go undergo Equality Act and ‘emotional intelligence' training. As you will hear, Angela is not exactly the sort of person willing to be pushed around in this manner. Far from caving in and subjecting herself to Maoist emotional re-education, she continues to exercise her political voice to great effect from the public gallery at council meetings. After the discussion with Angela, in part two, Ben and Tom round-off the episode by pulling together their own thoughts on the themes covered.

The Adventures of Sam Spade, Detective was a radio series based loosely on the private detective character Sam Spade, created by writer Dashiell Hammett for The Maltese Falcon. The show ran for 13 episodes on ABC in 1946, for 157 episodes on CBS in 1946–1949, and finally for 51 episodes on NBC in 1949–1951. The series starred Howard Duff (and later, Steve Dunne) as Sam Spade and Lurene Tuttle as his secretary Effie, and took a considerably more tongue-in-cheek approach to the character than the novel or movie. The announcer was Dick Joy. The series was largely overseen by producer/director William Spier. In 1947, scriptwriters Jason James and Bob Tallman received an Edgar Award for Best Radio Drama from the Mystery Writers of America. Before the series, Sam Spade had been played in radio adaptations of The Maltese Falcon by both Edward G. Robinson (in a 1943 Lux Radio Theater production) and by Humphrey Bogart (in a 1941 Academy Award Theater production), both on CBS. Dashiell Hammett's name was removed from the series in the late 1940s because he was being investigated for involvement with the Communist Party. Later, when Howard Duff's name appeared in the Red Channels book, he was not invited to play the role when the series made the switch to NBC in 1950.

Growing up in Cherokee Heights as an only child, Rachel Knox has always had a love for the arts. It was no surprise she thrived in theatre arts while attending Houston High School and later majored in Fine Arts with a concentration in Costume Design and Technology at the University of Memphis. Upon graduation, Rachel accepted a role with Arena Stage in DC where she mastered the craft of the creative effects of audience strategy. A year later, she moved back to Memphis as the Manager of Teacher Professional Development and Community Partnerships at the Orpheum Theatre. Rachel currently serves as the Program Officer for the Thriving Arts and Culture and Engaged Leadership and Civic Pride portfolios at Hyde Family Foundation where she manages approximately $2.2M/year in grants to area non-profits. In addition, Rachel is the Board President of the CLTV (Collective) a non-profit Black cultural organization. On this episode, Rachel expresses her passion for using culture creatives as a springboard to invest in black communities. She also addresses the inequities our artists face as it relates to paying artists their worth. Now that we are in a global pandemic, it is definitely time to respect the labor that goes into the work creatives do. Lastly, Rachel coveys her thoughts on the recent lynching of George Floyd at the hands of law enforcement.

Don Quixote is a timeless classic that has been retold and adapted many times over the years. So it shouldn't really have surprised us that Disney would take their own kick at the can with SCANDALOUS JOHN, which takes the story of the Spanish noble who believes himself a chivalrous knight and adapts it into one about an old rancher suffering from dementia who holds dozens of people at gunpoint on his quest across the desert to the wild west equivalent of a pioneer village. Things take a turn when a movie that starts out dull and incomprehensible becomes one of the saddest movies we've watched so far; and not just because loyal sidekick Paco is forced back across the Southern border, or Scandalous John's granddaughter is likely going to end up with the scummiest romantic interest we've seen so far.
