After a few interactions on instagram about our introspective practises and beliefs Devin took the initiative to set up a call on Zoom and Instagram Live and record it, this is that conversation.Devins Instragram:https://www.instagram.com/devinpkelle...Devins Website:https://www.devinpkelley.co/Divine Truth:https://youtu.be/sus67vhuNgA
Devin is a teacher. He currently divides hi time between teaching Narrative Excavation, writing, and coaching physical practice. Narrative Excavation is an introspective psychology practice he's been developing since 2013. Half a lifetime of competitive sports, overlapping with five years of full-time study in philosophy and psychology, followed by a decade deep dive into eastern psycho-spiritual disciplines and various physical disciplines: all of these brought to his attention the egregious shortcomings of existing approaches to learning, development, and self-understanding. His approach to physical training and Narrative Excavation attempts to reframe personal development within a paradigm of sustainable, value-oriented practice. In this conversation Devin dives into the idea of civic value, and his reflections on the concept. He talks about the terms "community" and "friend", and challenges how they're used today. Devin and Kyle riff on uncertainty, curiosity and dogma. And, Devin shares his concern that often people make assumptions instead of ask questions.
I started this episode as a statement and a question; "If we are stuck on arguing about taking guns away from citizens, we are not addressing the real question, that is, how do we keep guns from people who would do harm with them? I reached out to Pat Watson, someone I knew because he is a founder of a Moderate Gun Owners Facebook GroupTo be honest, I was not prepared for Pat's answer to that question. We, as gun owners, as political leaders, as citizens need to stop looking for answers to problems in the same old policies.Devin Kelley should have been banned from owning guns before he shot up a Texas Church. The 19 year old who killed eight people at a FedEx facility in Indiana should have never had guns.Gregory Ulrich had threatened the Doctors and staff at a Buffalo, MN. medical clinic and had a restraining order in place. Nonetheless, he was granted a permit from the local Police department and purchased a gun. He killed one and injured four. So, here we are.A strong social safety net can remove many of the factors that contribute to gun violence. Please share this with your elected officials to start a conversation about what we can do to end gun violence.

This episode is a conversation with my friend Nelson Cuadras - from The Daily Practice podcast.I met Nelson through the #randomtalkingvideo community - just as I've met hundreds or thousands of other cool ass people. But Nelson's got some special kind of thing - because not all of those thousands of people have me wondering "hmm I wonder what's up with this dude/chick?"I think it's a combination of these things:1. I compare myself to him on social media because we have similarly sized audiences and many of the same thought-leader friends2. He's got an unfairly good voice for podcasting.3. He seemed to be dealing with similar mental health issues as me4. He has cool people commenting on his stuff5. He has cool guests on his podcast.6. He seemed/s like a genuinely good dude.He does a lot of cool handstands and stuff with his body - but honestly, I don't even care about that. The only reason it's cool to me at all is that he's shown his audience (me) a more interesting side of his personality through talking videos and his pocast. In this episode, Nelson and I talk about how to use social media differently in order to build confidence, pull yourself out of your "funks," get excited about your stuff again, and all kinds of other cool shit.We talk about how we've both used unedited talking videos and guerilla podcasting to get over our s***.And a whole bunch of other stuff. And at the end, at the risk of him being worried about some of his podcasts feeling slighted - I asked him to share the Best 3 Little Tidbits he got from the whole lot of geniuses he's had on as guests.Basically "give me the Top 3 Greatest Hits of All Time - none of this fluffy stuff."One of them that I thought was particularly interesting was Devin Kelley's idea about the prerequisite for meditation. It was a fun conversation. Hope you like it.Before our conversation begins, Kassidy Crawford (Director of Marketing & Shenanigans at Unusually Focused) and I give you a few quick tips to break the stranglehold social media has over you. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS Louis C.K., known for telling Racist jokes in his comedy routines, joins the ranks of vilified White Men like Bill O'Reilly, Kevin Spacey and Anthony Weiner. C.K. was accused of sexual misconduct with his co-workers. Speaking of redundant, another American sniper, Devin Kelley, opened fire on a Texas church killing 26 people. Kelley's record of abusing women, children, and dogs was well documented and a host of his white acquaintances and friends testified to the killer's long record of White pathology. This week voters passed no legislation on gun control, but LGBT activists celebrated a historic victory for Virginia's Danica Roem, who became the first openly transgender member of the House of Delegates. In yet another illustration of schadenfreude, Whites hooted and celebrated the arrest of LiAngelo Ball, UCLA basketball star and son of Lavar Ball. Ball and two teammates were arrested for allegedly stealing sunglasses while visiting China, which coincides with President Trump's visit to the country. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
This weekend, America suffered the worst mass shooting at a house of worship in its history. 26 year old Devin Kelley killed 26 and injured 20 at the Sutherland Spring Baptist Church in Texas. He had been convicted for domestic violence during his stint in the Air Force, and was accused by a commanding officer of attempting to kill his infant stepson, whose skull he fractured. Kelley received a mere 12 months confinement, and a "bad conduct" discharge. His criminal record should have prevented him from buying a firearm, but he slipped through the cracks due to a bureaucratic snafu. Ultimately, an NRA member prevented a higher body count by shooting Kelley on his way out of the church. While better background checks and stricter gun laws are reasonable topics of debate in public policy, fundamentally gun control is not the answer. What we need to do is enforce existing laws, and pursue harsher penalties for convicted felons and criminals who are found in possession of firearms.

This week, Vincent discusses the horrific shooting in Sutherland Springs, TX and the shooter Devin Kelley. He explains what the Launterberg Act is, how it was violated when he was convicted of domestic violence in the Air Force, and how he was still able to purchase the guns. Vincent compares gun control to driving drunk […] The post Beyond The Badge: Sutherland Springs appeared first on Radio Influence.
It's all crazy martinis today. Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America are furious as the Air Force discovers it never forwarded the court martial information on the Texas church shooter that would have prevented him from legally purchasing guns and Jim also details how the federal government often seems disinterested in prosecuting gun crimes. They also discuss the bizarre assault on Sen. Rand Paul by his neighbor in Kentucky and how the media just don't care when GOP lawmakers are targeted for violence. And they unload on 2016 independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin, who has spent the past year focused on criticizing President Trump at every turn while advancing nothing of value to conservatism - his latest move being to urge people not to vote for the GOP candidate for governor in Virginia.
Today's show looks at two men with troubled beginnings who became polar opposites: one a mass murderer and one a scientific advisor to presidents. The murderer was Devin Patrick Kelley, who made headlines for shooting up a Texas church. The scientist is Mark Kingston Levin. Both came from dysfunctional homes and showed signs of trouble from an early age. But, Devin fell through the cracks and manifested psychopathology, including: cruelty to animals, domestic violence, a mental hospital escape and ultimately mass murder. Mark's childhood trauma was his father's early death and his mother's remarriage to an alcoholic abusive stepfather. But, Mark found mentors who guided him on an ambitious path: a coach who got him into football and a teacher who had him join the rocket club and fall in love with science. Football gave him confidence. The rocket club launched his prestigious career in science. Now he uses his real-life science background to write award-winning science fiction.

"Dead of July" is hard to categorize. Part comedy, part thriller, part love story, part horror movie. Inspired by RL Stine's books "Fear Street" books, Matthew Scott Mongomery wrote this play very quickly after having a bad day. He staged a reading last year in Los Angeles and I was there. Matthew's a friend of mine and I thought this would make a fun audio play. Silly, creepy, lovely, funny. Dead of July is a good thing to include with your summer cocktail and bbq. The cast is Matthew Scott Mongomery, Devin Kelley, Brian Dare, Kat Canipe. Please Share! Please Listen, Please Ejoy!! Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. On April 26th, 1986, near Pripyat, Ukraine, a human error occurred which caused the Chernobyl nuclear power plant #4 to explode and release radiation into the atmosphere. At the time it was classified as the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history. The area was afterwards considered uninhabitable. Today, years later, nature has reclaimed the area where plants and animals now live as if it were the wilderness. Oren Peli, the creator of the Paranormal Activity film franchise, wrote and produced the 2012 film entitled Chernobyl Diaries. The film includes such up-and-coming stars as Olivia Taylor Dudley and Devin Kelley as well as being directed by visual effects expert Bradley Parker who has worked on such films as Fight Club and Let Me In. The film, Chernobyl Diaries, is where a group of six foreign tourists are taken to Pripyat on what the tour guide calls an extreme tour to see the site firsthand decades later and learn the history about the disaster. However, our guide and group of six tourists are suddenly left stranded when their vehicle appears sabotaged. The film was just released for home theaters. Dark Discussions co-hosts Mike and Phil are joined by special guest Kristi Petersen Schoonover to discuss this horror film and the history behind Chernobyl and the Cold War. Other topics include the use of tragedy as a backdrop for both historical and exploitation film; radiation and nuclear power; the failure of the film at the box office; and how remarkable the film portrays atmosphere.
