Deutschland lebt „strukturell über seine Verhältnisse“, so der Bundesrechnungshof. Im Jahr 2026 wird fast jeder dritte von der Bundesregierung ausgegebene Euro mit Krediten finanziert. Das hat wenig mit einer „soliden Finanzwirtschaft“ zu tun, konstatieren die Rechnungsprüfer. Einer Feststellung, der man mit Blick auf die Finanzpolitik der letzten Jahrzehnte, deren Folgen wir heute zu spüren bekommen, wohl nur zustimmen kann.Das Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (IW) in Köln macht dieser Tage in einer neuen Studie folgende Rechnung auf: Die Sozialausgaben des Bundes sind seit 1992 von 4,4 Prozent des Bruttoinlandsprodukts auf 5,2 Prozent gestiegen. Standen soziale Leistungen 1992 noch für 35 Prozent des Haushalts, sind es heute 48 Prozent. Pro Einwohner stiegen die Ausgaben inflationsbereinigt um 82 Prozent. Im Gegenzug sank der Anteil der Investitionen am Haushalt von 15,4 Prozent 1992 auf 8,6 Prozent im Jahr 2011. Seither stiegen sie wieder an, auf 12,2 Prozent im letzten Jahr. Doch nicht allein der Bund leidet unter den steigenden Sozialausgaben. Auf kommunaler Ebene ergibt sich das gleiche Bild. Seit Jahren werden Investitionen vernachlässigt, während die Zahlungen für soziale Leistungen ungezügelt ansteigen. Jetzt, wo die schlechte wirtschaftliche Lage beginnt, sich in den Steuereinnahmen bemerkbar zu machen, explodieren die Defizite. Regine Bruckmann stand dort in den 70er Jahren, einige Bücher, die sie damals dort gefunden hat, hat sie behalten und wieder für uns gelesen.

Volker Bertelmann kennt man als experimentellen Pianisten unter dem Namen Hauschka und unter seinem echten Namen als Komponist von Filmmusik. Und das höchst erfolgreich. Für den Film „Lion“ bekam er eine Oscar-Nominierung. Für seine Musik zu „Im Westen nichts Neues“ hat er ihn dann gewonnen. Er erzählt, wie er die Instrumente findet, die seine Soundtracks prägen, zum Beispiel ein uraltes Harmonium, das er hat restaurieren lassen und ein seltenes Instrument mit Glasstäben, für das man Wasser braucht. Wir erfahren, wie es sich anfühlt, monatelang an Ideen zu arbeiten, die der Regisseur am Ende vielleicht nicht gut findet. Und dann gibt es Geschichten von dem jungen Musiker aus dem Siegerland, seine streng christliche Familie und deren Abneigung gegen Rockmusik und den Beruf als Künstler. "I'm 30 days away from launching." "It looks like I am about 90 days from going live with my podcast." "I'm still conducting interviews preparing for my course launch this summer." What is holding you back? I know what you feel. I was in your shoes when launching my podcast. Planning. Learning. Researching. Trying to get it just right. We tell ourselves we will launch right after we complete a few more steps on our "to do" list. Here is the problem: The "to do" list keeps growing preventing us from launching. When I was launching, I started with a blog. The blog grew slowly. I finally came to the realization that podcasters would rather listen to podcasts than read. That is when my podcast planning began. I started watching videos on podcasting. Podcasts about podcasting filled my iPhone. Newsletter subscriptions hit my e-mail inbox. Conference tickets were purchased. I even bought books about podcasting. It was a time when I consumed everything I could find. I kept telling myself I was preparing. Truth is, I was just procratinating. THE PUSH Months into my learning and planning stage, Dave Jackson from School of Podcasting reached out. Dave found my blog and wondered why I didn't have a podcast. Dave, don't you understand? I'm planning. I'm researching. I'm learning. Look at all the work I'm doing. Dave wasn't buying it. He had seen this movie before and knew how it ended. During that 90 minute phone call, Dave pushed me. He challenged me. Dave had confidence that I could launch in a week or two. I simply needed to find my own confidence and move. That was the trick. Start with the first step. You've heard it before. Every journey begins with the first step. Your first step may not be in the right direction. However, you make corrections as you go. Eventually, you reach your destination. FIRST STEPS People often ask me how I do I have the confidence to stand and speak in front of 15,000 people. It started with the first step. Speaking in front of 20 people in speech class was tough enough. To earn extra money in college, I began working as a wedding DJ. That job forced me to make announcements to groups of people every weekend. During a wedding, it was my job to introduce the bride and groom. They would have me announce the cake cutting, the first dance, the wedding party dance, the parents dance and usually the bouquet toss. It was also my job to get people dancing. The butterflies would flutter in my stomach every weekend. This was one of the biggest days for the bride. My job had a lot to do with her memories of this day. One day, as I was encouraging the ladies in attendance to gather on the dancefloor for the bouquet toss, I found myself repeating myself multiple times. These ladies were busy chatting with each other. What I was saying was of little interest to them. That's when it hit me. People simply are not as interested in my speaking success and failure as I am. If I mess up while speaking, there is a good chance I will be the only one to remember. People don't care that much. The same is true with your podcast. If you mess it up, few will notice let alone hold it against you. Dave Jackson always uses a quote from Ryan Parker from FoodCraftsmen.com. "Nobody will punch you in the face." JUST START Are you letting self doubt keep you from launching your podcast or next project? Is the Impostor Syndrome holding you back? In Episode 23 we talk with one of our lovely listener's Sally. After being on their trying to conceive journey for 10 months, Sally suffered through her first miscarriage and just a few short months later, another one after that. Wanting some answers Sally started exploring the route of IVF and underwent a hysteroscopy procedure where her surgeon discovered some unexplained scar tissue on her womb called asherman's syndrome. Fast forward another miscarriage, a laparoscopic surgery and the discovery of stage 3 endo Sally was feeling more than defeated. Sadly, her first 3 IVF rounds did not end in a single transfer and they felt like they were not receiving the best model of care from her ever so pricey fertility specialist. After changing clinics Sally and her partner finally had some successful results and they now have 2 beautiful girls that keep them on their toes. Sally's key take away from her very long and hard journey has been that just because one doctor thinks a certain way, doesn't mean that way is the right way.
