Websites: www.theovariancancercircle.org IG: Instagram: ovariancancercircle FB: The Ovarian Cancer Circle/Inspired By Robin Babbini Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulinda-schimmel-45b348a/ Guest Bio: Paulinda Schimmel Babbini settled into Los Angeles in 1975, relocating from Valley Stream, New York. She was soon a busy wife, mother of a son and daughter, and a businesswoman who owned a successful digital imaging company for over 40 years. Her life turned upside down in 2004 when her 17 year old daughter, Robin, was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. Robin vigorously fought the battle but lost her dynamic life just 2 ½ years after her diagnosis. She died at the young age of 20! To honor Robin's memory and shine a light on her legacy, Paulinda founded the non profit, The Ovarian Cancer Circle/Inspired By Robin Babbini. It is her passionate, tireless commitment to heighten awareness of the signs and symptoms of this ‘stealth' cancer, particularly amongst young women. She devotes her days working at community outreach throughout Southern California, attending health fairs, seminars and women's conferences, as well as lobbying in Washington, DC. Fundraising is the key to research and clinical trials that will lead to ovarian cancer being conquered. THE CIRCLE has dedicated its support to the prestigious UCLA based G.O. Discovery Lab, led by gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Sanaz Memarzadeh. Prior to COVID, The CIRCLE hosted two annual fundraising events , “Take A Bite Out of Ovarian Cancer”, at Ruth's Chris Steak House and “Teal There's A Cure.”. This past year they had two virtual walk runs and one in person event, Drag Queen Bingo. To date they have raised $950,000!!! THE CIRCLE has achieved increasing public civic recognition. Paulinda has been honored with a “Women in Leadership Award” by the City of West Hollywood; KNX Radio “Hero of the Week”; and a “Certificate of Appreciation & Recognition” by the City of Los Angeles. Moreover, for the last four years, The CIRCLE attained a ‘first-ever' milestone: the City of Los Angeles proclaimed September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. And in recognition City Hall of Los Angeles, City Hall of West Hollywood and the LAX pylons are illuminated in teal, the national color of ovarian cancer.

Welcome to the world of drag, the world of freedom to express yourself without limits. I was so excited to have a one on one with Sparkle, because he's played a very important role in, not only the area that I grew up, but The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is so much more that what you see from the outside. The Sisters, worldwide, care about nothing more than giving back to their community, helping others and allowing people to the side of drag that they see. My first experience with Sister Sparkle was at our local Guernville Chapter at a session of Drag Queen Bingo. You read that right. It's a bingo night, put on by your favorite local queens in full costume. Thank you for letting me pick your brain, Sparkle, and for gibing me so much of your Monday morning. It was such a treat, and I can't wait for Bingo to be back and running again! You can follow all of the Russian River Sisters at www. RRSISTERS.org. to see how yo can still donate, and be the first to know about upcoming bingo events!

Skymint, a Michigan-based cannabis retailer, has opened its newest location in Hazel Park, brightening a forlorn stretch of John R with a gleaming, state-of-the-art weed store that frankly wouldn’t look out of place at Somerset Collection or any other upscale mall. We speak with Summer Ransom-Cleveland, the company’s president of retail, all about contemporary marijuana retail marketing, and with Joe Neller, chief government affairs officer and co-founder of Green Peak Innovations, Skymint’s vertically integrated parent company, about the company’s business model and efforts to promote social justice. Staying with the getting-high-in-the-burbs theme, Royal Oak’s City Commission has approved an ordinance permitting adult-use recreational marijuana in the city. So while the city of Detroit continues to drag its feet on allowing recreational weed businesses, at least a few suburbs aren’t content to wait. (Ferndale now has three dispensaries operating, including two licensed for adult-use recreational.) Lastly, downtown Royal Oak LGBTQ mainstay Pronto! has been sold. The buyer is its next-door neighbor, Five15, a novelty store best know for hosting Drag Queen Bingo. Reminder - audio narrative journalism like this is possible thanks to our members.
