Carolina Reyt self describes as an eternal learner. Luckily, learning to be a better teacher is a never ending process and that's what makes teaching fun. Listen as Carolina describes the learning circle of giving and receiving and how this helps her plan and deliver interesting classes where she and her students are continually challenging each other to try new things. Now we just need a report how the peanut butter and jelly sandwich was. Bio I was born and raised in Argentina. I loved studying English as a Foreign Language as a kid. I loved it so much that I decided to get my Bachelor's Degree in that subject. I did a post-graduate specialization in English Literature. I will always be grateful to my professors in Argentina. Their brilliance, deep knowledge of Language Acquisition and mentorship guide me until today. Later on, I came to work in the US, in New Jersey. We decided to Texas and I did my Master of Arts in Spanish Literature and Linguistics. I have been working in Plano ISD for 16 years. I have taught all the levels of Spanish. I have given many professional development trainings. I have been very involved with the Curriculum Development team. I have met and worked with awesome teachers and leaders. The most important and impactful part of my job: my students, their love for learning my language and culture. At Texas Interfaith she led development of community programs serving at-risk children, seniors and unemployed adults. Mona is a frequent presenter on diversity, inclusion, intersection of faith and family violence. Her extensive work with the grass root community has led her to serve on multiple advisory boards, including Asian Advisory Committee to the Congresswomen Eddie Bernice Johnson. Public Policy Commission of Texas Council on Family Council. The policy team researches, works and eventually crafts the legislative agenda pertaining to intimate partner violence to ensure that survivor voices are included.Mona also serves on the Senior Advisory Board for senior citizens to the Mayor of City of Plano. In this capacity she advises the city council on the issues that are important to seniors living in Plano. She led a youth led initiative in High schools across Dallas to educate /prevent teen violence. Mona created the Environmental Education Program for children in Plano ISD schools. She has served as board president, vice president and secretary throughout her nine years on the board. In 2014-2015, while serving as president, the Board of Trustees was named an Outstanding School Board in Region 10 and one of five finalists in the state.Ms. Humphrey is a member of the Plano ISD Board's legislative subcommittee, audit committee and Head Start Policy Council. She serves as the liaison to the City of Richardson and to the Plano ISD Council of PTAs. She and her fellow legislative subcommittee members created Taxparency to create awareness about the need for school finance reform. She is a frequent speaker regarding school finance.She is a member of the National School Boards Association and as a member of Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) she serves on its Legislative Advisory Council. She graduated in the Leadership TASB Class 2015.As an active PTA volunteer and booster volunteer when her children were Plano ISD students, she received a Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership in 2006.
