Changemakers Eric Sheninger and Nicki Slaugh take this episode into a deep dive into the transformative power of leadership in education. As seasoned change-makers, they discuss the critical importance of initiating and sustaining change that leads to real, tangible results in schools. One of the most compelling parts of the discussion is their exploration of a student-centered approach. In an era where one-size-fits-all education is increasingly outdated, Eric and Nicki advocate for a system that prioritizes individual needs, fosters a culture of trust, and encourages collaboration. They share insights on how leaders can cultivate a culture where empathy and trust become the foundation for a positive school environment. But the road to change isn't always smooth. Eric and Nicki acknowledge the challenges of getting everyone on board with new initiatives and the tough decisions that sometimes need to be made. Yet, they offer practical advice for navigating these obstacles, stressing the importance of storytelling in showcasing the reality of what happens in schools. Takeaways: Leaders need to ask the right questions and challenge conventional wisdom to initiate and sustain change in education. Change in education requires courage, risk-taking, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. Empathy and trust are essential elements of effective leadership. Not everyone will be on board with change, but it's important to create conditions that empower the majority. Difficult decisions may need to be made to ensure the best outcomes for students. Educators should tell their own stories and showcase the reality of what happens in schools. Eric works with schools throughout the world, helping educators meet and exceed their potential to improve outcomes for learners. He is the founder and CEO of Aspire Change EDU, a collaborative consultancy designed to provide personalized support to all educational systems. Sound Bites to Ponder: "Comfort is the enemy of progress." "Empathy, trust, those are the intangible elements of leadership." "You will not get everyone on the bus." In this episode of the Rural Voice, the cohosts interview Eric Sheninger, Author, thought leader, and educator, regarding technological innovation in pedagogy and the classroom. Mr. Sheninger is one of our keynote addresses at the upcoming NREA conference. Mr. Sheninger discusses the importance of capitalizing on technology through the framework of meeting kids where they are. For example, he discusses how virtual learning may work best for some children while face-to-face classroom education may be better for others. While many kids are technology savvy, others may struggle to acclimate to new technologies without the appropriate direction. The discussion further discusses social media's role in informing, educating, and sharing information. They discuss how school administrators might use such approaches to share information while being mindful of public opinion. As Eric shares, use common sense and only share what would be appropriate for your grandmother. Avoid political topics and socially sensitive issues. However, capitalizing on social media can provide a medium to share various methods of learning and teaching to help others. Therefore, using social media is important in sharing one's story. Further, they discuss the appropriateness of branding and the method for building relationships while keeping the message consistent. Sharing successes is so important, and it helps facilitate important conversations. https://ericsheninger.com/ This episode is sponsored by WinLearning.

The pandemic has forced us to be more creative with our time. We’ve found ways to make the most of “stay-at-home” orders and working and learning remotely. We’re even teaching differently, adopting methods such as the flipped classroom where students do their assigned reading and work at home before coming to class so teachers can devote class time to answering questions and working through topics where students feel stuck. These types of strategies are all about freeing up classroom time for teachers, and making it more productive for them and their students. Now that we are beginning to see clear of the pandemic, the question facing educators is which of those strategies should be continued? How can we take advantage of all we’ve learned, and how can we find the time to do so? In this episode of Connect Canyons, we pose some of these questions to author and educational transformation expert Eric Sheninger. Source

Special Guest: Sue Scheff In today's digitally driven world, disaster is only a click away. This is the written on the front flap of my next guest's new book, Shame Nation. On this podcast, we've talked about the good and bad of the digital world- it can be a place of immense resource and positive education- we had a great discussion about learning and leading in a digital world with Eric Sheninger- and it can also be a home of aggression, misuse and the ugliness of humanity- from talking about bullying with Carrie Goldman and dignity and social aggression with Rosalind Wiseman. We have a few coming up like Katie Hurley talking about No More Mean Girls and a few others so, as parents, we know about the need for parental controls and the need for safety discussions regarding predators and who is friending you on social media. But my next guest brings to light a whole other segment of discussion that happens every day on the internet and can be like a runaway train if you don't catch it before it gets out of control- online shaming. Special Guest: Eric Sheninger There's no question that things have changed dramatically in the world of kids since we were young. After all, the phones we had were connected to the wall and had long coily cords that we stretched as far as they could go so we could get some privacy in a bathroom or a closet. The only webs we spoke of were spider webs, a tablet was something you took when you were sick and movies could only be seen in theaters or on HBO, as long as you were willing to get out of your seat and physically go change the channel. I know, the horror. The post How we can help kids lead and learn in a digital age with Eric Sheninger appeared first on drrobynsilverman.com.
