This week Sean and Jeff talked about the most evil or ‘devilish' movies in history in honor of I Hate Critics episode 666    Both Sean and Jeff offered their Top 5 Demon/Devil Movies and had Bob been able to join us, we would have stayed on theme with three Top 6 countdowns but it simply didn't make sense without him.    Sean -    Abby (1974)    An archaeologist (William Marshall) tries to rid a minister's (Terry Carter) wife (Carol Speed) of a spewing demon dug up in Nigeria.   The Devil and Father Amorth (2018)    In 1973 he brought us the film classic, The Exorcist. 45 years later, Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin brings us the real thing.   The Last Exorcism 2010    After years of gulling the faithful, cleric Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) feels remorse and decides to expose his chicanery through filming a documentary. With a crew in tow, Marcus arrives at the Louisiana farm of devout Louis Sweetzer, who believes that his daughter, Nell, is possessed. When the usual stunts fail, he realizes that he is face-to-face with real evil and must summon true faith to protect Nell, the others and himself from demonic power.   The Witch (2015)    In 1630 New England, panic and despair envelops a farmer, his wife and their children when youngest son Samuel suddenly vanishes. The family blames Thomasin, the oldest daughter who was watching the boy at the time of his disappearance. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, twin siblings Mercy and Jonas suspect Thomasin of witchcraft, testing the clan's faith, loyalty and love to one another.   Hereditary (Number 1 for both Sean and Jeff)    When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited.   Jeff's Remaining List  Prince of Darkness 1987    Poking around in a church cellar, a priest (Donald Pleasence) finds an otherworldly vial filled with slime. Frightened, he brings his discovery to a circle of top scholars and scientists, who eventually learn that the strange liquid is the essence of Satan. The slime then begins to seep out, turning some of the academics into zombified killers. As the possessed battle the survivors, student Kelly (Susan Blanchard) is infected by a large quantity of the liquid and becomes Satan personified.   House of the Devil (2009)   Desperate to make some money so she can move into a new apartment, college student Samantha Hughes (Jocelin Donahue) takes a mysterious babysitting job. When she arrives at the house, Mr. Ulman (Tom Noonan) mentions a full lunar eclipse and explains there is no child, but that Samantha will be watching his mother instead. After exploring the sinister-seeming house, Samantha soon comes to realize that her employers are hiding a horrifying secret and have plans to use her, dead or alive.   Exorcist 3 (1990)   Police Lt. Kinderman (George C. Scott) notices similarities between his current murder investigation and the methods used by the Gemini killer (Brad Dourif) who was executed 15 years before. He soon discovers a hospitalized mental patient (Jason Miller) claiming to be the dead serial killer, but who looks uncannily like a priest Kinderman knew who died during an exorcism. As more bodies are found, Kinderman looks for connections between the two supposedly dead men.   Devil (2010)    Five strangers' day begins with an elevator ride in a Philadelphia office tower. But, what happens next is anything but ordinary. The elevator gets stuck, and the trapped passengers, who expected to be together just a few minutes, now face the revelation of their secrets and transgressions. Frightening events turn annoyance into terror, as they begin to realize that one of their number is Lucifer himself.

James P. Gray was a trial judge in Orange County, California, starting in 1983, and the 2012 Libertarian candidate for Vice President. In the first half, he shared his views as a Libertarian, and weighed in on such issues as public education, homelessness, healthcare, taxes, and drug laws. Libertarians, he noted, believe that "you should be able to live your own life as you choose, as long as you don't wrongly impair other people to do the same thing." Now working as a private mediator in resolving disputes, he lamented that many in society have lost the ability or even interest in talking and working with each other to address and resolve issues, particularly of a political nature. One of the most critical issues facing America is that many public schools are failing our children, especially in lower economic areas, he commented. Parents should be able to choose where their government money will be spent for the education of their children, and that will bring competition back into the school systems, Gray suggested. He spoke in favor of an idea popularized by economist Milton Friedman-- negative income tax, where people who make very little or no money would receive a stipend yet would be incentivized to work rather than collect welfare. Regarding healthcare, Gray does not believe the government should be involved in implementing programs, as this has caused the medical system to be mired in costly bureaucracy. He thinks there should be vouchers for people who can't afford it, but they should choose how to use them rather than through a government vendor. Gray also discussed the problem of homelessness in cities like Los Angeles, and highlighted the need for more mental health facilities and the challenges faced by veterans in particular.-----------------With a master's degree in religion from the University of Chicago, Michael Lichens focuses his work on overlooked aspects of spiritual life. In the latter half, he discussed the Catholic Church's most celebrated exorcist, the late Father Gabriel Amorth, how he became an exorcist, and some of the intense cases he was involved with. Amorth, who was based in Rome, conducted some 70,000 exorcisms over the years, Lichens estimated, though some of these were on the same person (the documentary, The Devil and Father Amorth, depicts him performing his ninth attempt to exorcise a woman named Cristina). One of the reasons Amorth became so well-known was his willingness to work with the media, he noted. One person Amorth worked with was said to be possessed by a staggering 1,000 demons, and in some cases, he worked with individuals for years trying to free them from demons.Lichens recounted how Father Amorth was initially reluctant to be an exorcist, but after six years of training, he began to take on solo cases in the 1980s. The Church would always try to rule out natural or medical explanations before conducting an exorcism on someone. Speaking of supernatural occurrences during an exorcism, Lichens detailed how the Father witnessed levitations on occasion, as well as had a direct encounter with Lucifer and was spit upon, with the spit turning into nails as it hit him. He also experienced freezing rooms, actually seeing ice form on the windows. A spiritual protege of Amorth was Padre Pio, who bled the stigmata in his hands, battled with demons, and was said to communicate with angels. Amorth said he sometimes felt the spirit of Padre Pio (who died in 1968) assisting him in exorcisms. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/georgenoory/message

In the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 8 Verse 33 Jesus, responds to St. Peter's rebuke of His preaching.  Matthew 8:33  "Who turning about and seeing his disciples, threatened Peter, saying: Go behind me, Satan, because thou savourest not the things that are of God but that are of men."  In this moment in the Gospel of St. Luke which might shock some of us, Jesus utters these works to one of His closest disciples. St. Peter, the man who was to become the first Pope and the rock upon which Christ builds His church on earth, is suddenly and publicly rebuked by Our Lord. It's a moment that shows us that even the most devote followers of Christ from within his own inner circle fall into temptation, humans living with the fallout of original sin.   I strongly suggest you read Matthew Chapter eight. The phrase Jesus utters in more modern translation is of course, 'Get Behind me satan' and that is the title of the Father Gabriel Amorth book we are discussing in this episode.  Originally published in Italian, this English translation, republished by Sophia Institute Press, is a pragmatic guide to spiritual warfare and aimed toward dispelling myths and fears and to get to the truth, teaching every Christian and follower of Christ should understand. In the very next line of the Gospel of Matthew lies an essential teaching Jesus gives to the whole world after rebuking St. Peter.  Matthew 8:34  "And calling the multitude together with his disciples, he said to them: If any man will follow me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." To speak more about this moment and the Father Amorth's book, Get behind me Satan, I am joined by Michael Litchens of Sophia institute press.  Get the Book Sophia Institute Press

Legend of Bloody MaryAlmost everyone has heard about the legend of Bloody Mary which can be summoned through your bathroom mirror. It a very popular "game" to play amongst children especially during sleep overs. Legend has it though, that if you are brave enough to go through with this ritual she will appear to you in the reflection of your mirror. Not only will she show herself to you, but she also has the ability to scratch your face, drive people to the point of insanity and in the most severe of cases kill. The question one might wonder is why is she so angry and aggressive? Who is she? In this episode we will go over 3 possible candidates who are rumored to be the real Mary as well as go over the significance of the elements that compose the ritual.Malleus Maleficarum/Witch's Mark Throughout history witchcraft has always been perceived as an evil practice. It is an artform only practiced and/or performed by those who dwell in sin. As society "progressed" there came about precautions that one could look to in order to protect them from the witches' dark arts. So it was handy for both the government and church to have a sort of guide/manual that one could use to convict women of being witches. It was then where the Malleus Maleficarum was created and introduced. This book offered ways in how to identify, interrogate and convict the witches of their time. The Pope's ExorcistFather Gabriele Amorth was without doubt the most famous exorcist of the modern era. As he was both controversial and known as the Pope's Exorcist. He advocated for the necessity of exorcisms and by his account had performed over 100,000 of them. In this episode we will go over a little bit of his journey that led him to the path of becoming the Pope's Exorcist and we will go over what defines an exorcism and the different types that the Catholic Church acknowledges. This fun exorcism romp is more fun than riding a Vespa across Europe. Listen to Bryce and Sydney break it down. Synopsis The Pope's Exorcist is a 2023 film that follows Father Gabriele Amorth, the real life Chief Exorcist of the Vatican from 1986-2016, as he goes around to possibly possessed adults and children and cures them of their affliction, through unconventional and sometimes frowned upon means. The movie follows Amorth, played by the award winning actor Russell Crowe, as he tries to get rid of a very powerful demon that has attached itself to a little American boy named Henry, who has just moved into an inherited Spanish castle with his mother and sister. This movie is based on true events and documents from the Vatican, as well as being based on two books Father Amorth wrote before his death in 2016. There are some true elements to the story but a lot of it has been fictionalized to make this slightly scary, sometimes funny exorcism movie.  Review of The Pope's Exorcist In reviewing this movie, we have to take into account how many movies try to be The Exorcist, and ultimately fall flat because no one could ever top the 1973 horror classic. This movie definitely takes cues from its predecessor, with the possessed boy shouting obscenities at his mother and the priests, body contortion, some suspenseful and mysterious scenes, and an origin story for the demon that honestly was refreshing to all the other long played out demon stories. This movie got better the longer it ran, but it is in no way a slow paced movie. Every minute has you wanting to keep watching. It starts off a bit basic for long time horror movie lovers like me, but it got more interesting as it progressed. And with a 100 minute run time, it is the perfect length for a movie night.  The script is very basic and mimics many other exorcism movies, and at times the characters would probably be better off not speaking than saying their bare bones lines to get the plot moving. But whoever wrote this movie was obviously highlighting Russell Crowe. They gave him the best lines, the most backstory, in a way he was the most, if not only, interesting character in the entire film. He solves everyone's problems, he makes the characters and the audience laugh, we can sympathize with him while also being very interested in what his next move should be. As a viewer, it seems as though he had the time of his life filming this movie, and that is what makes it watchable in my opinion. There were good gorey scenes, some of the lines from the possessed boy were so outrageous that it made me step back and say okay maybe this movie has more going for it than I had originally thought. Ultimately, it is very entertaining, but it would have been nothing without Russell Crowe. Score 8/10

Ian and David take on the forces of darkness with a double-feature review of The Pope's Exorcist and The Devil and Father Amorth! The first is a horror movie from earlier this year, in which Russell Crowe plays Father Gabriele Amorth, an Italian priest who served as the Vatican's designated exorcist from 1986 until his death in 2016. Amorth must vanquish a demon tormenting an American family who has just moved into an inherited Abbey in Spain--one which holds dark secrets that could shake the Church (and Christianity) to its core. The second film is a documentary by The Exorcist director William Friedkin, who passed away recently. It follows the real-life Father Amorth, and claims to capture a bona fide exorcism on camera. The results are...curious, to say the least. In this spoilerific episode, they guys dig into both movies, looking them as entries in the "possession movies" genre; as horror movies; and as examinations of faith. This week, we're joined by Las Cruces native Michael Patrick Kaczmarek, one of the producers of The Pope's Exorcist, which was released April 14 in the U.S. and is in theaters now. To date, the film has grossed more than $60 million internationally. The film stars Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe. Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, The Pope's Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy's terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden. Known by some as the Dean of Exorcists, to others as the Vatican's Exorcist, Father Amorth was to thousands of people a light in the darkness. A real man who conducted thousands of exorcisms for the Church, Father Amorth was a frontline crusader in the battle against evil who chronicled his exploits in two memoirs that go far beyond the spooky anecdotes to explore the threats to humanity from demons. Amorth was appointed chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome in 1986 and remained there until 2016, when he died at age 91. In those three decades, Amorth claimed to have conducted over 60,000 exorcisms. Now, the exploits of Father Amorth come to the screen for the first time in The Pope's Exorcist. Michael attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School and Oñate High School, where he played football for four years and graduated in 1999. He went on to attend the University of New Mexico and Cal State, Los Angeles, where he earned a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Film, Radio and Television in 2003. We'll talk to Michael about how he became involved in the project, how he got started, how he got to where he is and who helped him along the way. We'll also talk about what may be next for the young producer.

The chief exorcist for the Vatican Father Gabriele Amorth claimed to have performed over 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime. Before his death he said that the devil was already in the Vatican and that the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi (The Vatican Girl on Netflix) was a kidnapping and coverup by the police and members of the church. Father Amorth was unafraid of the evil he faced in the exorcisms. He would even tell demons that he had the Madonna and the archangel Gabriel to protect him. On today's episode, The True Story of the Pope's Exorcist. Father Amorth's stories continue to send shivers down our spines. During these difficult and dark days, when most of us were isolated from family, friends, our parishes, and even the Sacraments themselves, this channel was started as a statement of standing against the tyrannical mandates that many of us were living under. Since those early days, this channel has morphed into an amazing community of friends…no…more than friends…Christian brothers and sisters…who have grown in joy and charity.Avoiding Babylon does not criticize the hierarchy or institutional Church, especially Pope Francis. We recognize there is an unprecedented crisis in the Church, but we feel that there are other shows that address these issues that are more qualified than us. Instead, we try to remind ourselves and those who enjoy the channel that being Catholic is a joyful and exciting experience. We seek true Catholic fraternity and eutrapelia with other Catholics who, like us, are doing their best to live out their vocation with the help of God's Grace. Above all, we try to bring humor and joy to the craziness of this fallen world, for as Hillaire Belloc has famously said:“Wherever the Catholic sun doth shine,There's always laughter and good red wine.At least I've always found it so.Benedicamus Domino!”https://www.avoidingbabylon.comTelegram Chat:  https://t.me/+AMwZ2f9ChPg5NWNhRSS Feed for Podcast Apps:  https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1987412.rss Support the showCheck out our new store!

Questions Covered: 01:21 – My question involves a Frankenstein' monster scenario. Let's suppose that the monster's body was created as provided in the original novel. Let's also suppose that the body parts were all gathered from baptized persons. After coming to life, would the monster need to be baptized in order to have the stain of original sin removed?  06:11 – Why do things fly off the shelf by themselves? Why do we hear heavy footsteps on our ceiling when we only have a one-story house? Why do our cats avoid a certain spot in the living room and spend hours alertly watching it?  13:16 – I believe in ghosts, or whatever it is that we call ghosts, because my daughter has seen them when she was younger and scared us all. What did she see? If ghosts are real, what are they? Why would someone be able to see them?   23:53 – If you lean too close when blowing out your Jack-o’-lantern, can the pumpkin suck out your soul?  30:02 – I know someone who died, and he was very possibly in mortal sin. His wife died a few years earlier, she was a good faithful Catholic. He spoke to two different relatives probably within an hour after he had just passed and revealed to them that he was not in the same place as his wife, he said that he could not see her. Both relatives didn’t even know he had passed away, he spoke to them in their dreams with the same message. How does that happen?  34:05 – Is Father Amorth fake and/or just a product of the Satanic Panic? If he is fake, is he sincere in his beliefs or is he some type of Satanic Panic Grifter like Mike Warnke and Zachary King? In the case of Father Amorth I still believe in exorcism, but Father Amorth's claims, and documentaries make me think that he is not a good exorcist. RESOURCE MENTIONED: http://www.canonlaw.info/a_amorth.htm  36:57 – Could a gateway to hell exist? Such as the legend of Stull, KS  40:42 – My daughter, Lauren, would like to know the history of the tradition of carving pumpkins and if it had any connection to the Catholic “All Hallows Eve”  43:16 – Is serving Candy Corn a mortal or venial sin?  44:11 – I hear demons are not able to reveal a person’s sins IF that person already went to Confession. And demons especially hate Latin. Are either true?  48:28 – Catholic Apologist Matt Fradd does a horror podcast called Sibling Horror… it can get pretty spooky. My question is, can someone listening or writing such stuff put them in any danger of even an occasion of sin since it could be entertaining thoughts and scenarios that could lead down a dark path? Or is that something that would change depending upon the inclination of the specific individual?  …

Esta semana, como recomendación te sugiero The Devil and Father Amorth (2017). Este docu del director William Friedkin, creador de la mítica película "El exorcista", explora la vertiente verídica de los exorcismos mientras asiste a uno de ellos, oficiado por el padre Gabriele Amorth. The power of Christ compels you! The power of Christ compels you! And when it comes to exorcising a demon from your body and/or sitting through the entirety of The Devil & Father Amorth, truly only the power of Christ can compel you to do so. 43 years after its release date, The Exorcist director William Friedkin crawled out of the retirement community he was placed in to try his hand at documentary filmmaking, and gave us...this. Guys, it's the worst documentary we've ever covered, and is therefore a true autumnal cornucopia of LoLs, tricks, and minimal treats. Join us as we schedule a routine procedure exorcism in a carpeted office room sometime midday, where an antique man will incoherently mumble Bible verses (or, you know, whatever) in our ears and MAYBE scare these demons off once and for all. Spoiler alert: It won't work! Tune in!

The Devil and Father Amorth is a 2017 documentary film directed by William Friedkin showing the ninth exorcism of an Italian woman in the village of Venafro referred to as "Cristina", this time performed by Father Gabriele Amorth.  William Friedkin was, of course, the director of The Exorcist in 1973 and he wanted to see an actual exorcism, so he finally got to and filmed it for us all to see. What did an actual exorcism look like? Did it make me a believer? What can we make of exorcisms and demonic possession? Join me as we examine The Devil and Father Amorth.

Amorth, who was the official exorcist for the diocese of Rome over his sixty-plus years as a priest, performed around 60,000 exorcisms over his career before passing away in 2016. A new book titled 'The Devil is Afraid Of Me: The Life and Work of the World's Most Famous Exorcist' written by Marcello Stanzione, a fellow priest who worked with Father Amorth, looks at the latter's life as an exorcist, NY Post reports. Meeting with the devil The book also talks about an exorcism that took place in 1997 where Father Amorth believes he came face to face with the devil himself. One morning, a young Italian peasant was brought to his consulting room in Rome and was accompanied by a priest and another man. The latter was the peasant's translator. The possessed man reportedly only spoke Italian but the evil spirit in him spoke perfect English. Father Amorth began the exorcism in Latin and when he mentioned Jesus's name, the young man started to yell curses in English. When the exorcist started to recite the prayer Praecipio tibi ('I command you'), the demon fell silent. "But then, screaming and howling, the demon burst forth and looked straight at him, drooling saliva from the young man's mouth," Stanzione shared. "Whoever you are and all your companions who possess this servant of God … I command you: Tell me your name, the day and the hour of your damnation," Father Amorth asked the demon to which the answer came, "I am Lucifer." The Terrifying And Chilling Recordings Of The Exorcism Of Anneliese Michel Link: https://awesomejelly.com/anneliese-michel-exorcism-recordings/ In the late 1960's a seemingly normal young woman named Anneliese Michel started to display strange behavior. That strange behavior was a result of a demonic possession. A possession that ultimately led to her death. Her possession warranted an exorcism and that exorcism is one of the most famous ever recorded and it was Anneliese's story that was the basis for the famous movie ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose'. The exorcism of Anneliese was recorded and there over 40 audio excerpts that are both terrifying and very real. Some of those recordings can be heard below. Anneliese came into the world a healthy baby girl on September 21, 1952. Growing up with her parents and her three sisters, Anneliese did not have a simple life. Her family was strict Catholic, flirting with some of the more intense elements of the religion. In 1969, Anneliese would suffer her first seizure. Doctors would tell her family that Anneliese suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy, which could cause, among a terribly long list of side-effects, changes in mood, hallucinations, and loss of awareness. Over the next few years, Anneliese would suffer more seizures, however scans of her brain didn't show any serious symptoms. In the early 1970's, Anneliese would start to hear knocking in her bedroom, her sisters also heard the knocks. Anneliese would begin to hear evil voices and over time, she herself would become evil. Doctor's attempted to place Anneliese on anti seizure medication, but that had zero effect on Anneliese's convulsions. As the spring of 1976 came on, Anneliese's seizures worsened. She began to attack family members, biting and scratching them. When she couldn't get her hands on any of her sisters, Anneliese would beat herself. She refused to eat, saying that the demons wouldn't let her. She would collapse to her knees and rise back up quickly, only to repeat the motion hundreds of times each day, breaking her kneecaps in the process. The final exorcism was done on June 30, 1976. Anneliese, too frail to perform the genuflections herself, was helped by her parents. On the tape, Anneliese speaks for the last time. She tells Renz and Alt to “beg for absolution” then turns her attention to her family. Through tears, Anneliese whispers “Mother, I'm afraid”. On the morning of July 1, Anneliese Michel died of malnutrition and dehydration. According to the coroner's report, she weighed just 68 pounds. Audio clip of Anneliese Michel Very scary audio and photos of an Exorcism of Anneliese Michel (21 September 1952 – 1 July 1976) was a German woman who underwent Catholic exorcism rites in 1975 and died the next year, in 1976. “We can do nothing against you because you are too protected!” So declared a frustrated host of devils to Father Gabriele Amorth, the priest exorcist in Rome who spent thirty years battling the Devil and his minions by performing more than sixty thousand exorcisms. All the while, he deftly used modern media to awaken our disbelieving modern culture — and even the Church — to the reality of the Devil and his nefarious actions at all times and everywhere. In these eye-opening pages, angelologist Father Marcello Stanzione tells the fascinating story of Father Amorth and his life as an exorcist. You’ll learn of his daily schedule and how he managed to perform dozens of exorcisms each week. You’ll find out what his exorcism room looked like, and how various devils responded to his bold practice. Best of all, you’ll read Father Amorth’s own startling explanations of many truths about the Devil that our culture has forgotten — and about the canny methods the Deceiver has adopted in recent years to corrupt believers and unbelievers alike. Among the many questions Father Amorth answers here are: -How can we recognize the action of the Evil One? -Can a person in the afterlife enter spiritually into a living person? -Which prayers of liberation are the most successful? -What are the four methods a demon uses to enter souls? -Can demons hide from an exorcist? -What are the six characteristics of evil spells? -Are all instances of clairvoyance managed by demons? -Is an exorcist infallible in his judgment and his ministry? -Why is there no longer any possibility of salvation for the fallen angels? -What are the arms of combat that each of us must use to do battle with evil? -And many more surprising facts about the Evil One and how to resist him.

Welcome back everyone! In this episode we cover some hot topics including Tim's encounter with an individual on hallucinogenics, who subsequently tossed Tim and his partner around like rag dolls until they finally subdued him. I wanted Tim to share this story due to the subject matter we were getting into with Father John. Super human strength. This is often referenced by those claiming someone was demonically possessed, and is also shown in several possession films! One interesting point I've thought a lot about is what exactly is being unlocked when taking these drugs, and how super human strength becomes part of the equation. Also strange, is what the demon is doing to the human body, to give it super human strength. Could each situation be tapping into a strange reserve of unlimited potential in the human brain? It's an interesting question and I believe a reminder to never underestimate the power of the mind... Or the creepy power of a demon. Tim and I want to reiterate that if you or someone you know are experiencing what you believe are supernatural issues, please seek appropriate help, whether that be from your local community, religious leaders, or medical professionals. Zoe - @LetZoeSpoilYou on Tumblr, Twitter Gaia - @Herbeloved82 on Tumblr Tina - @PandoraTHExplora on Tumblr, Twitter In this special bonus episode, we watch and analyze two films with themes of demonic possession. The first film is The Devil & Father Amorth, a documentary from the director of the original The Exorcist movie, William Friedkin. The second is 2014 film Deliver Us from Evil, directed by Scott Derrickson and based off of the real life events of NYPD cop Ralph Sarchie. We chose these pieces for a few reasons. Since we started doing this podcast last February, we have grown fascinated not only with the cinematic portrayals of demonic possession in Hollywood, but also with the religious and scientific perspectives surrounding exorcisms in the real world. Are these exorcisms of actual demons? Are these manifestations merely symptoms of mental illnesses? What is the answer? Music is "Ludovican" by notforme!, from album Ludovican. Here, the longtime friends discuss the genesis of and remarkable stories surrounding Friedkin's compelling new documentary about the Vatican's exorcist, The Devil and Father Amorth. In the process, they tackle some of the most substantial topics imaginable, including: Christ, Hitler, religion, evil, reason vs. emotion, empathy vs. fear, free will, the impending apocalypse — and how filmmakers can make a difference in a world on the brink. We begin with a look back to January's Cloverfield Paradox, and we celebrate the billion reasons why we should all love & respect February's Black Panther. Then Also Mike catches you up with some news & reviews for A Wrinkle in Time, The Party, Red Sparrow, Game Night, Annihilation, Thoroughbreds, and The Death of Stalin. Then it’s preview time. We walk you through the release schedule for all of the March & April releases. We include snapshots of the casts & crews, chronicle any early reviews & buzz, and react to the trailers for all the films we’re excited to see. March brings about another game changer for romcoms, Love Simon, while also attempting to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise. There was a Wes Anderson tangent as we gush over the NY auteur’s filmography to date before we hype up Isle of Dogs. Unsane intrigues Mike No 1’s taste profile as we welcome the big screen return of Steven Soderberg. Then we temper the rise in expectations for Ready Player One while raising them for SXSW favorite, Gemini. April is a loaded month. A Quiet Place is getting hyped, and us horror movie nerds get excited. We brace for a lousy historical drama in Chappaquiddick, and Also Mike may or may not tick off the Illuminati. Then Mike No 1 unveils rage like he’s never raged before over horse movies. Who knew a person could lose their marbles over too much horse? Don’t miss some epic MMO ranting & raving over Lean on Pete, of all films. Joaquin Phoenix may create some Oscar buzz with You Were Never Really Here, Andre the Giant will be great, Borg vs McEnroe could produce a LaBouf-assaince, Tully could put Charlize Theron back on Oscar’s radar, and Super Troopers 2 might scare us more than a documentary film about an EXORCISM. Finally, we end with a chronicle of our hopes, dreams, and paranoid fears for Avengers: Infinity War. We react to the trailers, gush over the loaded cast, fear for the lives of our contractually expiring MCU heroes, and hype up a future movie event series bout our affinity for the Infinity War. It’s a loaded episode and a good sign of things to come from us here at MMO. Do stay tuned for our Way Too Early 2018-19 Oscar Preview and our March Madness basketball special coming soon, and of course, do chat with us on social media to jump into our new movie year’s worth of programming. We’re on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and Gmail. Do please help us spread the word about our show, and as always, thanks for listening. When reality sucks, watch movies with us, even if they’re horse movies, maybe especially if they’re horse movies. Happy 2018, movie world. We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar!
