With the market open for business today, the lads dive straight into the reports surrounding RB Leipzig's Ivorian sensation, Yan Diomande. As the Reds push hard to secure a long-term successor on the flank, the Ivory Coast manager has already dropped a massive hint regarding a move to Anfield. Are Liverpool ready to break the bank for the €100m+ rated winger? Over at the World Cup, Liverpool striker Alexander Isak answered his critics in style. Leading the line for Sweden against Tunisia, Isak put in a world-class performance—netting a crucial goal to snap his recent drought and bagging two assists in a ruthless 5-1 victory. The panel discusses what this major confidence boost means for his upcoming season under Andoni Iraola. The boys also look back at how Liverpool's other big names fared on the world stage over the weekend: Virgil van Dijk: The skipper found the back of the net with a towering header for the Netherlands, though the Dutch were ultimately frustrated in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Japan. Florian Wirtz: Liverpool's No. 7 put on a creative masterclass, pulling the strings and providing a beautiful assist in Germany's staggering 7-1 demolition of Curaçao. #LFC #LiverpoolFC #FACup #ArneSlot #Anfield #BloodRed Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell icon to never miss an episode of the Blood Red podcast. The summer transfer window is underway and The NN Pod launches its new weekly Transfer Show with a discussion that quickly turns into a full Arsenal squad rebuild. The episode opens with “Fantasy Threesome”, a summer planning game where Gavin, Justin and Elliott each select three current Arsenal players they would move on and three replacements they would target. Gabriel Jesus, Ben White, Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz all come under discussion as the hosts debate what Arsenal's next evolution could look like.Attention then turns to the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club. The team discuss the persistent links to Morgan Rogers, why Morgan Gibbs-White appears less convincing, and whether either player represents the level Arsenal should be targeting after another title-winning campaign. There is also discussion around reports linking Arsenal with PSG youngster Emmanuel Mbemba, the latest Riccardo Calafiori to Real Madrid rumours, and Bayern Munich's reported interest in Gabriel Martinelli.Elsewhere, Brighton continue their search for the next breakout talent, Manchester United move closer to signing Ederson from Atalanta, and the show finishes with a debate on Andy Robertson's proposed move to Tottenham and what it could mean for his Liverpool legacy. The first Transfer Pod of the summer is here.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(00:18) - Transfer Show Set Up(01:16) - Fantasy Threesome: The Summer Rebuild Game(02:12) - Elliott's Three Sales: Jesus, White & Ødegaard(06:08) - Replacements: Vlahović, Right-Back Options & The Ødegaard Problem(08:36) - Justin's Three Sales: Jesus, Martinelli & Nwaneri(10:05) - Justin's Replacement Targets: Kroupi, Tonali & Godts(12:00) - Gavin's Three Sales: White, Martinelli & Havertz(14:10) - Gavin's Replacement Targets: Palestra, Barcola & Kroupi or Endrick(16:53) - The Morgan Links: Should Arsenal Move?(22:02) - Emmanuel Mbemba Rumours & Arsenal's Recruitment Model(23:46) - Calafiori, Real Madrid & The Value Question(25:51) - Martinelli, Bayern Munich & Potential Departures(27:31) - Brighton Sign Zadoc Yohanna(29:14) - Ederson to Manchester United Discussion(30:55) - Andy Robertson, Spurs & Premier League Legacy(34:52) - Outro

Patrick and Ted are back for their first World Cup episode, working through the opening round of fixtures and the early transfer window stories. On the games: Brazil vs Morocco raised serious questions about Ancelotti's side, and Patrick had a few rants pending. The USA looked more convincing than anyone expected against Paraguay. Turkey managed 30 shots and 1.40 xG against Australia, which will surprise nobody who has watched Turkey at a major tournament before. Ivory Coast edged Ecuador in a game that was more fun than it had any right to be. On transfers: Ayyoub Bouaddi ran circles around Brazil at 18 years old and PSG, Arsenal and Liverpool are all circling. Ted and Patrick dig into what his numbers actually look like and whether the £60-70M fee makes sense for any of them. Christos Tzolis is reportedly heading to Arsenal and could be a straight swap for Martinelli. And Marc Cucurella is off to Real Madrid on a six year deal, which raises the question of what exactly Real Madrid are doing this summer. Good luck for tomorrow and thanks for speaking to us.Text 9W: So what is your new apartment like, Terry?M:Oh, it's great. There are two bedrooms, a nice kitchen and a living room.W:Sounds nice.M:Yeah. And there is a grocery store next to the apartment building. And there is a laundry and a fast food restaurant across the street, so it is a quick way to get a meal.W:That's good. How much do you pay in rent?M:Well, I have a roommate, so I pay half the rent. That is $275 a month, with gas, water and electricity included. And the Internet and satellite TV are separate.W:That's a really wonderful price. How on earth did you find a place like that?M: I just found it online. W:Great.Text 10M:Hello, I'm Jeff Anderson from Coventry, England. And in today's program, I'd like to share with you a special kind of English culture — the football. A lot of people in England are crazy about football. During the football season, whenever there is a big match, all the flags for local football teams, such as Liverpool and Newcastle are hung outside every window or even spread proudly on T-shirts or scarves. There is an atmosphere of excitement in the air. Groups of young men crowd into dark packed pubs, staring at television screens. Of course, they are covered head to toe in the colors of their team. They shout and scream in sadness when their team loses a goal or with joy when there is a moment of success. You do not have to be a fan of football to get caught up in the excitement, as far as victories are concerned.England had its big moment in 1966 in Wimbledon Stadium. The World Cup victory is in the hearts and minds of all football fans. Now, whenever England is playing a big match, red and white covers every inch of every pub, a symbol of hope — the English flag. While football has never been something I'm particularly interested in. For years, I've had to pretend excitement and pick a team to support. You cannot say you don't like or do not follow football in England, as often this will lead to a long dialogue in which someone will begin telling you why you should support their team.

Liverpool and New York haunt the story of Irish independence in a way few other places do. Though separated by more than 5,000 kilometres of ocean, both ports were part of a wider Atlantic world in which Ireland occupied a central place.By the 1920s Liverpool and New York were among the most Irish cities on the planet. Both had been transformed by generations of Irish migration and in both cities Irish politics shaped everyday life. During the War of Independence, these communities became crucial to the republican movement. Money, weapons, propaganda and people moved through the ports, while IRA networks operated on both sides of the Atlantic. But this was not simply a story of support for Irish independence. In Liverpool and New York, Irish politics were fiercely contested. Supporters of the Republic organised, fundraised and agitated, while opponents of independence also made their voices heard. Anti-Irish politics, loyalism, class tensions and divisions within the diaspora all shaped how the conflict was understood abroad. In this episode of Brothers in Pain, Dr Brian Hanley explores the role of Liverpool and New York in the Irish War of Independence, revealing how two great port cities helped shape the revolution, and how Ireland's struggle in turn reshaped politics across the Atlantic world. This is the second last episode of Brothers in Pain a groundbreaking Global history of the Irish War of Independence by Dr Brian HanleyWritten, Researched & Narrated by Dr Brian Hanley. The third episode of season one of The Pub Crawlers Podcast was recorded in Nottingham, as Rob Gutmann hosts Steve Graves and Martin Fitzgerald to discuss the local pub scene, Indian restaurants, students, and more... The Pub Crawlers Podcast represents a quest to find the very best authentic UK pubs, filmed on location inside some of the finest boozers across the UK and Ireland. Well, sort of. It's equally about friends having three to four pint-fuelled, quintessential pub conversations, on any subjects that damn well occur to them, in a range of outstanding boozers across the land. So, really, it's as much about what we get up to in pubs as the pubs themselves. The shows are presented by self-styled boozer connoisseur and long-time pub designer and owner, Rob Gutmann, who is on a mission to find the very best pubs in the UK and to define the essence of the ‘true' pub. Featuring a wide range of guests (mainly Rob's mates), we'll be visiting pubs the length and breadth of the country, bedding into the very best of them, and chatting about our lives lived in and around boozers. The first season of the Pub Crawlers focuses on the North of England, taking in Chester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, and even a brief foray to the north side of the Midlands in Nottingham. Plug yourself in to the ongoing conversation as it disappears down all manner of tenuously pub-related worm holes, with your new mates at TPC. And you don't need a pint to enjoy us, but it might help... Follow @pubcrawlerspod for more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

“I do live here and now, but I often think about the past. But then again, I think a lot of people do. So I think writers, what are they going to draw on?”Mark Savage speaks to musician Paul McCartney.Born in Liverpool, England, during the Second World War, he found fame as a member of the legendary British band The Beatles in the 1960s, widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in music history.McCartney shared primary singing and songwriting duties with bandmate John Lennon, and along with George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the four-piece became a global pop music sensation with hits such as Twist and Shout, Yesterday and Hey Jude. They remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time alongside the likes of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.McCartney was knighted for his services to music in 1997, but despite his huge achievements, the 83-year-old seems to be showing no interest in retirement — he's releasing his 19th solo album. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is inspired by his experiences growing up in post-war Liverpool, during which a young McCartney, carrying a guitar and wearing a bowler hat to catch attention, would hitchhike with John Lennon to places as far away as Paris. On April 15th, 1989, 95 men, women, and children were crushed to death during a soccer match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest – two additional victims would later die of their injuries. The Hillsborough Disaster ruined lives and communities. But Hillsborough wasn’t just a disaster. It was a fight for justice. It was a war between the establishment and the people, and a cover-up on the largest scale – one that exploited hooligan culture in order to assassinate the character of thousands. And once the dust settled on the very public and very contentious collision of fandom and greedy capitalism, soccer – and, for that matter, all sports – would never be the same again. Boys of Dungeon Lane, McCartney's collaboration with producer Andrew Watt, arrived when McCartney was 83 and and he came out swinging: the opening track greets listeners with a dissonant, unresolved guitar chord that sets the album's tone. Harmonic instability runs through the entire record: chromatic mediants, deceptive cadences, and persistent pedal tones prevent even the most nostalgic songs from settling into comfort. The album's lyrics focus on McCartney's pre-Beatles Liverpool youth, territory unfamiliar even to long-time fans. The songs pay deliberate sonic tribute to specific Beatles recordings: Mellotron strings echoing "Strawberry Fields Forever," a backwards laugh tape loop answering "Tomorrow Never Knows," a first-ever McCartney/Starr vocal duet so close in timbre the two voices are nearly indistinguishable.
