Did you know that the ability to get up off the ground without using your hands is highly predictive of how long you're going to live? In a study of over 2000 individuals, those who were able to get up off the ground without assistance (even without using their own hands) the longer they were likely to live.Similarly, it's been found that those cultures who spend more time on the ground exhibit lower rates of hip arthritis. Those with Chinese heritage for example, who sleep on the floor and rarely use chairs, have 80 to 90% less reported cases. And that's not to mention general pain. According to the Health Policy Institute at Georgetown University, 65 million Americans report a recent episode of back pain. Some 16 million adults have chronic back aches. We live in a world of chairs and cars. We drive to the gym to exercise and log more screen time than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs could have ever imagined.Without actively improving our mobility with daily mobilization, we will lose it and experience the consequences. My life rule #2: If you don't use it, you will lose it. How do you fit it all in when you are busy? How do you decide what is important and what isn't? What if you show up feeling like crap? This podcast is all about how to deal with the realities of a busy life while still progressing in your climbing.Tim and Josh have different approaches because they have different lives. Tim is a pro-climber who has to travel often and struggles to have a set schedule. Josh works a lot and has a family which means his schedule is always short on free time. But the key behind progress is the same for them both — always showing up with intention to do the things that actually get you better each time and cutting out anything that gets in the way of those sessions.SHOW NOTES:Katie Lamb Climbs V16Dave MacLeod Rhapsody Endurance TrainingBecoming a Supple Leopard#28 -- Tim's Best DaySupport us on Patreon: HEREVisit our podcast page: HERESign-up with one of our coaches: HEREFollow us on Instagram: HERE

What if fitness was about more than just aesthetics? What if we viewed sport not just as a game, but as a transformative power in society, and training as a tool for resilience and durability? These are just a few of the themes and questions Kelly Starrett unpacks in this podcast. In case you're not familiar with Kelly, he's a Doctor of Physical Therapy, renowned speaker, and a New York Times bestselling author, whose book Becoming a Supple Leopard made him into the biggest mobility guru in the world. In our conversation, Kelly and I delve into . . . The essential role of training for more than just aesthetics and how personal experiences led him to emphasize resilience and durability The transformative power of sport in society and the dangers of early sports specialization in young athletes The often undervalued psychoemotional components of coaching and the surprising sleep disruption side-effects of COVID-19 Debunking the sleep deprivation myth in successful people and advocating for a shift towards whole foods for improved performance and health The vital importance of communal eating in fostering unity and its profound influence on team culture The practicality and scalability of fitness practices, with a focus on creating daily routines that improve overall well-being The alarming decline in outdoor activities among children and the potential health hazards of this trend And more . . . So, if you're ready to elevate your health, durability, and longevity, don't miss this conversation with Kelly Starrett! Questions:Question #1: I usually work out really early (5am) to get it out of the way. Is it more important that I get good sleep or that I continue working out in the morning? Looking for advice.Question #2: What's better? Lighter weights and higher reps, or higher weight and lower reps?Depends on goal, depends on what you're doing the most, depends on skill, time under tension/mind-muscle connection, total volume, Question #3: What are the benefits of fiber and what are the best ways to add in to my diet?”Different types of fiber, benefits, sources of fiber, supplementsRecommendation: The Ready State w/ Kelly and Juliet StarrettBook: Becoming a Supple Leopard, Built to MoveIG: @thereadystatePodcast: The Ready State PodcastQuote:“Sometimes our lives have to be completely shaken up, changed, and rearranged to relocate us to where we are meant to be.”-Adrianne HemenwayAffiliates:Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamien_sdLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast@jameemarie YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

How can we ensure that we function optimally and feel great as we age? What makes a durable human? How do we combat the effects of our modern, more sedentary ways of being on our body's need for activity? These are a few of the questions that this week's guest, Dr. Kelly Starrett, can help us answer. Known as a “mobility pioneer,” Kelly's career as a doctor of physical therapy has led him to some extraordinary places. He consults athletes and coaches from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, US Olympic Team and CrossFit; he works with elite military personnel; and he consults with world-leading corporations on employee health and well-being. Kelly's work, however, is not limited to coaches and athletes – he believes that every human being should know how to move and be able to perform basic maintenance on themselves. The author of two best-selling books, “Becoming a Supple Leopard” and “Ready to Run,” and co-founder of the mobility training platform, The Ready State, Kelly's work offers comprehensive tools and foundational wisdom to optimize movement and unlock pain-free performance. His newly released book “Built to Move,” which he co-wrote with his wife Juliet, guides readers through the ten essential habits to help you move freely and live fully. In this thought-provoking conversation, we explore why intentional movement is so vital to our well-being over time, best practices for managing stress and pain, and what it means to have a game plan for the long game.-----You can WATCH this episode on our YouTube channel.Connect with us on our Instagram. For more information and shownotes from every episode, head to findingmastery.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
