In the 25th Hey Arnold! Anniversary Show, creator Craig Bartlett joins Arun Mehta for a wide-ranging fan Q&A packed with stories. Craig looks back on Arnold's handmade claymation beginnings, explains how Jim Lang's jazz-infused music helped define Hillwood, and shares the origins of fan-favourite characters and moments including Pigeon Man, Stoop Kid, Dino Spumoni, Abner and Grandpa Phil's unforgettable advice. The conversation also explores why Helga was his favourite character to write, the darker side of episodes such as “Helga and the Nanny,” the evolution of Arnold and Helga's relationship, and creative decisions behind Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie. Plus, Bartlett discusses 1990s Nickelodeon merchandise, Helga's appearance in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and what he was working on at the time.
For today's Xennial Countdown to Halloween, we're joined by Special Guest Justin Shenkarow, whose career is woven through some of the television that helped define a Xennial childhood. Justin takes us back to growing up as a working actor in the late '80s and '90s, from his early days in the business and a first-season holiday appearance on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to playing Simon Holmes in the wonderfully strange Eerie, Indiana and becoming the unmistakable voice of Harold Berman on Hey Arnold! Naturally, we spend plenty of time in the spooky end of Justin's résumé. We talk about what it was like making Eerie, Indiana as a kid, the wonderfully weird television being made for young audiences at the time, Hey Arnold!'s 1997 Halloween special, “Arnold's Halloween,” and some of the other spooky and Halloween projects that have cropped up throughout his career. We also look back at what Halloween was actually like for Justin growing up during the era we're celebrating. And then Justin gives us what may very well be the GOAT of all guest paranormal experiences we've heard on the podcast to date. We are absolutely not spoiling that one here—you need to hear it from him. It's a trip through spooky '90s television, childhood Halloween memories, behind-the-scenes stories and one paranormal experience we will not be forgetting anytime soon. 46 days until Halloween! For today's Xennial Countdown to Halloween, we're heading back to Hillwood for Hey Arnold!'s wonderfully spooky 1997 Halloween special, “Arnold's Halloween.” Lyle and Meghan have both seen this one before, and we're revisiting Arnold and Gerald's Halloween prank that gets wildly out of hand. We talk about the episode's clever use of classic science-fiction scares, its very '90s take on Halloween night, and why Hey Arnold! was so good at creating a world where the kids felt like actual kids—and the adults were often considerably more ridiculous. From homemade costumes and neighborhood mischief to aliens, panic and one particularly memorable water tower, this is Hey Arnold! at its Halloween best. 47 days until Halloween! In this 24th Hey Arnold! Anniversary Show, Arun Mehta sits down with Hey Arnold! creator Craig Bartlett for a wide-ranging conversation packed with behind-the-scenes stories from one of Nickelodeon's most beloved animated series. Craig explains how Jim Lang's distinctive jazz and hip-hop-inspired score shaped the world of the show, reflects on the remarkable response to the soundtrack's vinyl release, and discusses the possibility of further music releases. The conversation also explores how much of Craig can be found in Arnold, the creation and casting of Mr. Simmons, and what it was like working with Mark Hamill. Craig reveals the inspirations behind fan-favourite characters and episodes—including Ronnie Matthews, the Sewer King, Preteen Scream, and the show's memorable half-hour specials—while sharing candid insights into the writing room, voice-recording sessions, character development, and the creative ambitions that drove the series forward.
Dungeons & Dragons 2 has a finished script, and the studio that made the first one already passed on it. Avengers Doomsday is deep in edits, the Russo brothers just called their script a living organism, and everyone lost their minds about it. Squeaks opens the show with a full report from the Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, where the Moscone Center got taken over by TCG, Pokémon Go, Unite, and the new Pokémon Champions app, and where buying a single piece of exclusive merch turned into a timed-entry website that crashed on everybody. Then Allen Dunford joins Frank to talk about The Samurai Redneck Zombie Killer #1, the Comic Soup book he co-wrote with Kit Wallis that funded its previous record in a single day. Allen gets into the grindhouse and manga influences, why the story stays locked on two survivors instead of a community, and the Geek Freaks variant cover on the Kickstarter. Frank closes with the first News Quickfire, a tighter news segment built on listener feedback. The news run covers D&D 2's script and where the project could land, Netflix developing a live action Ravenloft while Forgotten Realms gets canceled, HBO's Baldur's Gate series with Craig Mazin, the real reasons Honor Among Thieves underperformed, the Avengers Doomsday improv conversation, Jim Cummings losing Darkwing Duck to a recast, and a full status check on Gargoyles, Hey Arnold, Doug, and the 90s reboot slate. Chapters 0:00 Intro: Patreon Upgrades, SideQuest Relaunch, and Show Changes 1:34 Squeaks at Pokémon Worlds: Moscone Center, Pokémon XP, and the Tournaments 5:21 The Merch Problem: Pokémon Center Lines, Resellers, and Scalpers 10:12 Guest: Allen Dunford on The Samurai Redneck Zombie Killer 21:37 Seven Years Indie, the Comic Soup Slate, and the Geek Freaks Variant 27:30 News Quickfire: D&D 2's Finished Script, Ravenloft, and Baldur's Gate 34:14 Avengers Doomsday, the Russos, and the Improv Panic 40:52 Darkwing Duck Recasts Jim Cummings, Plus the 90s Reboot Roundup 48:10 Wrap-Up and Listener Feedback Key Takeaways Pokémon Worlds was an incredible event wrapped around a broken buying experience. The Pokémon Center on site required a timed booking through a site that crashed, the second merch area turned out to be reseller tables selling singles for hundreds, and Squeaks walked out having spent twenty dollars and bought his Worlds backpack online later at roughly four times the price. Next year's Worlds moves to Singapore, so US fans have no idea when it comes back. The Samurai Redneck Zombie Killer started as a title and a cover. Kit Wallis brought Allen the name and the first five pages, posted the cover to Instagram, and the response was so far outside his normal engagement that they fast tracked the whole book. It beat Comic Soup's previous best campaign total in a single day. Allen and Kit built the book around two people instead of a community, borrowing the Leon and Mathilda dynamic from The Professional, right down to naming the samurai Lee. The art uses a manga inspired color scheme with the first five pages in full color before shifting to black, white, and splashes of red. Paramount Skydance passed on Dungeons & Dragons 2 as financially unviable, but Hasbro is shopping it. Honor Among Thieves earned around $205 million on a roughly $150 million budget split with Hasbro's E1, opened four days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie, landed a month after the OGL boycott, and never told non fans it was a family comedy. The Avengers Doomsday improv worry is overblown. The Russos worked the same way on Infinity War and Endgame, their visual reference is Once Upon a Time in the West, and Robert Downey Jr. said he would not have come back without them. Improv on a movie this size gets spent on one on one character scenes, not on Sentinels and VFX plates. Jim Cummings and Terry McGovern are both being recast in the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Darkwing Duck reboot, seven years after Cummings recorded the pilot that got it greenlit. The 2017 DuckTales storyline he voiced was about an actor destroyed by a Darkwing Duck recast. Gargoyles' live action version is dead but the animated one is alive, Hey Arnold is in conversations, an adult Doug has concept art out, and King of the Hill is the template everyone is pointing to. Quotes "Twenty bucks, because it was a horrible experience when it comes to purchasing anything." - Squeaks "It is a black mark on the Pokémon brand right now." - Frank "He had the title already. It does what it says on the label." - Allen Dunford "We're not focusing on a community. We're just focusing on two people trying to survive this thing." - Allen Dunford "In the indie sphere, you're not just the writer. The book doesn't stop at the script." - Allen Dunford "Improv works better when it's scaled down. It doesn't work super well when it scales up." - Frank All news discussed on this episode comes from GeekFreaksPodcast.com. Tom Janssens is mechanical engineer en redacteur van m'n zaalshow 'Brokken & Broos: Kan dat echt? De wetenschap in Disneyfilms', samen met Jacotte Brokken. Tom is ook een Star Wars-fan met een mening. Ooit zei hij me: "Ik kan 'The Rise of Skywalker' vakkundig afbreken." De Kampioenen.I have a bad feeling about this. De besproken film, niet de podcast.

Marsh also brings over 25 years of animation experience, having worked with industry giants like Hanna-Barbera and Klasky Csupo. His impressive resume includes contributions to other popular animated series such as THE SIMPSONS, ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE, and KING OF THE HILL. In this interview, we talk about the development of PHINEAS AND FERB and the approach to the new season, how to pitch cartoon characters and shows, writing for a multi-generational audience, and much more. Summary of Judges 18:In Judges 18, the tribe of Dan is still seeking a homeland. They send five spies who find the peaceful city of Laish. On the way, they discover a man named Micah who has a shrine, an idol, and a Levite priest. The Danites later return with 600 men, steal Micah's idols, and convince the priest to come with them. They attack Laish, burn it, and rebuild it as "Dan." They set up the idol, and Jonathan, a descendant of Moses, becomes their priest. This chapter highlights Israel's moral confusion during the time when "everyone did what was right in his own eyes."Your words were found and I ate them

Lindsie also opens up about navigating the post-divorce dating scene and the unexpected challenges that have come with it. I kicked things off with my “New Year, new me” update, where I proudly announced that I've stopped biting my nails and, believe it or not, even managed to cut back on my daytime smoking. Yes, it's a small victory, but when you're trying to be wedding-ready, every little bit counts. My gym escapades at Planet Fitness provided plenty of comic relief. Picture this: me, barely a minute in, setting off the infamous lunk alarm, and having to explain to a very confused staff member that it's just my natural charm wreaking havoc on the quiet gym ambiance. Over time, I learned that five minutes on the StairMaster is the unofficial test of being a “bad bitch.” Trust me, if you can handle those stairs, you've already earned a spot in my inner circle. But the absurdity doesn't stop there. I laid out my wild plan to have Joe Exotic, yes, the Tiger King himself, officiate my wedding. I even joked about needing a presidential pardon—courtesy of Donald Trump—to get Joe out of prison in time. It's a ridiculous notion, but then again, so is my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.Nostalgia hit hard in this episode, as I reminisced about my childhood filled with Nickelodeon gems like “Hey Arnold” and “Angry Beavers,” alongside the life lessons of “Boy Meets World.” It's funny how those shows, once the center of my universe, now serve as bittersweet reminders of a simpler time, even as I navigate the complexities of adult life and reunions that are more awkward than heartwarming.Of course, no episode would be complete without a jab at modern technology and social media. I ranted about the ongoing drama on Facebook—yes, that relic—and urged everyone to ditch it for something more authentic. Meanwhile, I defended my love for Tesla's cutting-edge tech, not because I'm a fan of Elon Musk, but because I truly appreciate innovation when I see it.And then there was Pokémon Day. While the hype for downloadable collections and new game announcements fizzled out (once again), I managed to snag a holographic Articuno in a Twitter giveaway—another reminder that in this digital age, even our hobbies come with a side of irony. In a nutshell, episode 179 is a snapshot of my life: part self-improvement saga, part pop culture rant, and entirely unapologetic about the absurdity that is my world. What are we doing? Apparently, we're laughing in the face of chaos—and that's just how I like it.*************************************************************✅BLUECHEW - FIRST ORDER FREE Only $5 Shippinghttps://wawdpod.com/blue*************************************************************
