Legendary production team Da Beatminerz are back with their first full length album in 20 years! The album is called “Stifled Creativity” and it features iconic artists such as De La Soul, KRS-One, Pharoahe Monch and Ras Kass alongside folks like Rasheed Chappell, Mickey Factz, Stahhr, and Bishop Lamont. We talked with Mr. Walt and DJ Evil Dee about their approach to making this album, some of the stories behind the collaborations, and how their history in the game has brought them this far. Then we discuss, in the kind of heated debate that can only exist between brothers, Public Enemy's “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back”. Bishop Lamont is an artist, producer, actor and activist, who's made an indelible impression on the West Coast hip hop scene. He was interviewed by Professor Billy O'Connell in September 2020. ------------------------ Host: Billy O'Connell Guest: Bishop Lamont Producer: Jeff Albert Editor: Courtney Garcia
BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the SIR VETERANO interview session! This West Coast producer began making a name for himself in the early-mid 2000s, and around 2010 he was on the cusp of a breakthrough - his rep was gaining steam, the production resume was turning heads, Aftermath & Bad Boy were calling - but the reality was he was burned out, in a big way - so he decided to put the music to the side and focus on his own personal well being. Around 2018 that music itch showed up (it never truly goes away), and after having a few conversations with longtime friends / managers WALT LIQUOR & KWA NGUYEN of FRESH YARD RECORDS, he decided to jump back in the pool again. The result is “The Gathering”, an LP filled with melt your face off production and rhymes from the very best: MURS, FASHAWN, MITCHY SLICK, PLANET ASIA, MC EIHT, RAS KASS, BISHOP LAMONT, PHAT KAT, GUILTY SIMPSON, MED, CASUAL, SKILLZ, SUPASTITION, 4TWO7, & K-B. We get the entire story on how this LP came to be, why a Ouija board session with Bishop Lamont & DR. DRE inspired the intro and what else we can expect from Veterano in the rest of 2020 and beyond. If that ain’t enough, this man is a serious bourbon drinker and had that sh*t on deck - you know this is a good time, Vangardians! So don’t delay, press play, pour it out and light it up ‘cause it’s ALWAYS that #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud #youtube // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #boombap #DJ #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #WORLDWIDE #RIPCOMBATJACK Recorded live August 9, 2020 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #soundcloud #youtube #spotifypodcast #googlepodcasts #stitcherradio #mixcloud #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard twitter/IG: @southernvangard @jondoeatl @cappuccinomeeks

DJ Jon Doe was on the West Coast handling work biz, and we just didn’t have enough time to get together content to fill the gap - but ya’ll know the archive is extensive, right? 158 mix shows to date, over 100+ interviews…if you ever wake up one Tues or Thurs and there’s not some new content, just go back a few clicks and check out something you haven’t listened to yet. Anywho, we’re back with that raw this week as usual. There is so much new, good hip-hop out right now it’s damn near dizzying. When you are as good as Nikki Grier, it’s only right that you struggle to make it in the business, otherwise the story is less interesting and Nikki’s story is like a page turning New York Times best seller drenched in heartfelt soul. Born and raised in the Los Angeles area to God fearing parents, Nikki spent more time in Church than she did any place else. At only 12 years old, Nikki was a part of a Gospel group that signed with Lou Adler of the Legendary 60’s band “Mamas and Papas”, and she has rode the euphoric highs and painful lows of the music industry roller coaster ever since. She has sung background vocals for Barbara Streisand, Michael Jackson and Brandy just to name an amazing few. In 2006 she was invited by a former Aftermath A&R to come and write at a session with his then boss Dr. Dre. That one session turned into Nikki signing with Dr. Dre’s publishing company “Hard Working Black Folks” and Nikki has had her chance to shine, co-writing “Fire” on 50 Cent’s “Curtis” album (50 Cent Feat. Nicole Scherzinger) and writing and/or singing LEAD and background vocals for Dr. Dre, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Stat Quo, Bishop Lamont, Raphael Saadiq, God Body, Ginuwine, and countless others. Most recently Nikki's song "Touch Me" was featured in the film "Not Easily Broken". Nikki’s music is the perfect combination of sex and soul. She combines a perfect mixture of hip-hop and soul and delivers it with an element of sensuality. With her unique fifties pinup style, fishnet stockings and high heels, she commands any stage that she walks on; brining in an era of seduction, love and sexual liberation for every woman.
Producer Max I Million (https://soundcloud.com/max-i-million) has put together an amazing conceptual mix transmitting live and worldwide from Stockholm, Sweden to Pomona, CA. He's done official remix work for the likes of CL Smooth, Edo G, Planet Asia, Kev Brown, and Masta Ace. "I also worked with Promoe from Looptroop Rockers and ADL, who are about as close you can get to Swedish Hip Hop legends." Max's last release was on an instrumental cassette called Beats, Mines & Life, where he shares space with Ayatollah, Khrysis, M-Phazes and Nottz. Look out for his latest drop with Chuck D, Bishop Lamont and Mykill Miers on Counterweight Records. His right hand man Chapee intros the mix on a track the two previously collaborated on. "He's a real master of ceremony, and I'm usually that cat in the background who speak with my music."Mike Styles opens the show with a short mix featuring new music from Makaya McCraven, Co. Fee, Sumohair and Supersan. Gabe Real seals the deal with a dj buffet and a blast from the past when he reunites with a scratch record he pressed and released in the early 2000s. history lessons.
Last time Bishop Lamont spit some serious knowledge and now he is back to give you more game about the industry!

Tonight we are joined by the present and future of hiphop, C-Arson's Bishop Lamont is here! We talk racial tensions in hiphop, did OJ really do it, why minding your own business is the best religion and what kind of porn is Bishop into? The answer might surprise you. or not. either way it's some ill sh*t. Talking with Bishop Lamont is very comforting because you know that hiphop is in good hands but it's also nerve wrecking because you know HE knows more than he's willing to share...and that is why Bishop Lamont is important to the game. Important for our cultures future. Ladies and Gentlemen, Bishop Lamont.

Focus…is set to debut his first EP, Focus 1172 Focal Point, Music has been the focal point of Grammy-award winning producer Focus…since his childhood. Bernard Edwards Jr., Manhattan-born on November 6, 1972, developed his musical talent with the help of his live-in inspiration, Bernard Edwards, bassist and co-founder of the 70s R&B group CHIC. Focus… grew up watching his father play instruments, write songs and produce music and decided then he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. Focus…taught himself how to play instruments including the bass guitar, drums and piano. Soon after honing his production skills, Focus…moved to Los Angeles, California and began producing remixes. His twist on beats caught the ear of producing legend Rodney Jerkins. As fate would have it, Dr. Dre also got his hands on an artist produced by Focus… from Mone, while another co-worker of Dre's, Mike Lynn, boasted about how good Focus's production skills were. In 2000, at the age of 28, Focus… was extended a personal offer from Dr. Dre himself to join Aftermath, Inc. as the label's in-house producer. Focus…worked for Aftermath for 7 years. Even though Focus… has produced songs for hip-hop artists like The Game, Bishop Lamont, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Busta Rhymes, he didn't want to get pigeon-holed into one genre of music. Focus…wanted to be seen as more than a hip-hop producer. Although leaving Aftermath, Inc. was one of the hardest decisions he had to make, Focus… branched out of the hip-hop genre and earned himself a Grammy for his production work on Latin-singer's Mala Rodriguez's “No Pidas Perdon,” in 2010.
When you are as good as Nikki Grier, it's only right that you struggle to make it in the business, otherwise the story is less interesting and Nikki's story is like a page turning New York Times best seller drenched in heartfelt soul. Born and raised in southern California to God fearing parents, Nikki spent more time in Church than she did any place else. At only 12 years old, Nikki was a part of a Gospel group that signed with Lou Adler who discovered the Legendary 60's band “ The Mamas and Papas”. She has sung background vocals for Barbara Streisand, Michael Jackson and Leon Ware just to name an amazing few. In 2006 she was invited by a former Aftermath A&R to come and write at a session with Dr. Dre. That one session turned into Nikki signing with Dr. Dre's publishing company “Hard Working Black Folks” and Nikki has had her chance to shine, co-writing “Fire” on 50 Cent's “Curtis” album (Featuring Nicole Scherzinger) and writing and/or singing Lead and background vocals for Dr. Dre, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Stat Quo, Bishop Lamont, Raphael Saadiq, Lindsay Lohan, Ginuwine, and countless others. Most recently Nikki's song "Touch Me" was featured in the film "Not Easily Broken" and she sang on Eminem's critically acclaimed album "Recovery". Nikki's music is soulgasm; the perfect combination of sex and soul. She combines a perfect mixture of hip-hop,pop, and soul and delivers it with an element of sensuality. With her unique fifties pinup style, fishnet stockings and high heels, she commands any stage that she walks on; bringing in an era of seduction, love and liberation for every woman. Nikki is currently working with Dr. Dre on his highly anticipated “Detox” album and Busta Rhymes on his new project.
