Empty Coaching.  Words and phrases that lack teeth. “Good job! You're getting there! I like that.” “We've got to get better. C'mon, step it up. That's not what I'm looking for.” We've all been guilty of letting these clichés fly out of our mouths at one point or another. But do they actually help inspire change or simply fill the silence? In today's episode, we cut through these hollow lines and explore how we, as leaders and coaches, can move beyond surface-level feedback to foster both immediate performance improvements and long-term growth..  Brett and our guest, Tex McQuilkin, get to the heart of what makes feedback impactful—what to say, when to say it, and how to become the kind of leader the world truly needs. Tex, a national-level presenter, coach, and content creator, brings his expertise as a certified strength and conditioning specialist and holds a Master's in health behavior change. He's led seminars in 16 countries, working with everyone from professional athletes to Navy SEALs. Today's show is a very fun and honest conversation between two friends and colleagues on a range of topics including: Augmented feedback: the different types and how to make each one impactful The #1 tactic any coach or leader can use to improve IMMEDIATELY Shame as a motivator and our ability to harness negative emotions How treating our thoughts as “tourists” can help us defeat our negativity bias And *BONUS*: What Michael Myers can teach us about coaching We want to thank Tex for joining us! In our latest episode, we sit down with Jason Fraser, a seasoned Product and Design Leader with a mission to save the world. Jason believes one of his Catalyst superpowers is helping people shift their view a little bit, gain insight and then make forward progress. He shares the application of his superpowers with early-stage founders, as well as his work with government clients, especially his role in helping the Air Force establish its first software innovation lab for the Department of Defense and hosting workshops at the White House. His years of experience were documented in the book he co-authored, Farther Faster and Far Less Drama, sharing experiences and approaches to driving innovation. The book offers practical advice to effectively drive change. In particular, we talk about the concept of UBAD - Understanding, Belief, Advocacy, Decision Making – as a way to ensure others are on the journey with you: “When you want to drive change you need to make sure that people both understand what is happening and believe in it. And if people don't understand or believe, they will remain either frightened or insulted.” Original music by Lynz Floren.

The great thing about both the book and the episode is that even if you're NOT a mom, this episode totally applies because these principles still apply to weight loss and to life.Like, how to be present for the other people in our lives without taking on their feelings, and learning to process our own emotions instead of turning to that pint of ice cream. As a matter of fact, that's one of the truths in Pam's book: feelings don't need to be fixed, they need to be felt. I mean, come on. IT'S SO GOOD. Click: https://www.info.growthinstitute.com/opsp/MTISummaryDo you want to know how you can 10x your impact without all the stress and drama? We may have big plans for our team, but not until you have a simple yet effective strategy to execute it, you'll have a hard time aligning it with your team. This can later on cause drama and tension. To effectively increase your impact (even by 10x) and have less drama, you need to plan everything, even the unexpected things.Daniel Marcos is the co-founder and CEO of Growth Institute, the leading online education company for C-level executives at fast-growing firms. He is a keynote speaker and a CEO Coach with a mission to help 1 million entrepreneurs scale their impact and reduce drama.Come and join Daniel as he talks about how you can build a better impact and avoid that unnecessary drama by thorough planning. He also shares his tips on how you can get your team aligned by building a simple yet effective strategy. Check out these episode highlights:02:45 - Daniel's ideal client: We serve mid-market companies and small startups that they really want to scale. If you want to 2x or 3x your company in the next couple of years, we're the guys that help you do that.03:33 - The problem he helps solve: We help them to solve really main two things-- get the right strategy, and get everyone on the same page. And then some disciplines process and everything to help implement it correctly. 05:08 - The symptoms of the problem: Everything that happens that is not planned creates trouble. What we do is we- that's when they call us. When they have a lot of drama. 06:44 - Clients' common mistakes before consulting Daniel: The first one is they don't have the strategy in a simple and clear format that makes sense for everyone to understand. So we work a lot with strategy.08:39 - Daniel's Valuable Free Action (VFA): Take the time to write a plan. So, as an example, as I said earlier, people say, “I want my team to be on the same page.” And they said, "Show me the page." They don't have their strategy written on one page. 09:28 - Daniel's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Want to know how to create a strategy that effectively works for you and your team? Click: https://www.info.growthinstitute.com/opsp/MTI10:00 - Q: Usually, as leaders, we wake up kind of late with an alarm. And then we have a lot of drama in our personal life, going to the office. And then we get to the office, we bring a lot of drama to our teams, I always wake up two hours before I need to engage in business. Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode:“You're going to have a great idea, but if you cannot implement it, it's not worth it.” -Daniel Marcos

So little time so much to do, the age-old dilemma. In today's episode I discuss a topic that all of us have wrestled with and most of us have lost: not for lack of trying but because it seems like a logically impossible problem to solve. If I have more to do than time available to do it in, something's gotta give, therefore peak productivity Is fundamentally unachievable. My response is Yes…And no. Get a pen and paper ready because this is an information and resource-rich episode with time management tools you can action immediately. I start by defining and differentiating ‘living by default' vs. ‘living by design'. I then explain the pitfalls of viewing goals as a thing we do to receive an emotional reward (like feeling proud of ourselves), and discuss how reframing goals as a conduit to become a better version of ourselves is a more fulfilling practice. I do this by uncoupling your inherent value from your sense of accomplishment and help you reframe time management as energy management. I end with giving you advice on how to delegate and even slash tasks from your to-do list altogether, and detail robust exercises to reprioritize your energy for maximum efficiency.   LINKS   Join the Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/amandaryanfearcoaching/?ref=share_group_link Work With Me - https://www.amandaryanfear.com/site/contact Website - https://www.amandaryanfear.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/amandaryanfearcoaching/   Produced by Wowow

I have become more and more fascinated with this idea of being a bridge as a leader. The bridge can first be taken personally when you are asked to evolve or step up in your career. The bridge can be in moments when you are able to take the energy away from whey we can't and get it refocused on how we could. Many times the bridge can be where you act as a connector between two mindsets to bring compassion to either side that may be judging the other and not helping. In your career, you will face many of these bridge moments. Some will feel like you are actually crossing a milestone or a physical bridge into a new identity. Most others, will involve you bridge-building in the moment with your teams, in meetings or in one-on-one conversations.I really think you're going to love this one and I'd love to hear the places you are seeing these 'being a bridge' moments coming up and how you are taking them or avoiding them. And also, be sure to pass this along to your teams to be able to discuss. Here's the blog that inspired today's podcast below:Title: The BridgeThere is a nudge in everyone's career where you can do what I call:- Take the bridge- Avoid the bridgeor- Choose to become the bridgeAvoiding the bridge means you stay where you are. You skip the personal evolution opportunities in your career often times fueling drama and sticking with those that find "joy" by being disengaged at work. It becomes the all-too-common 'us vs. them' situation.'Us' ends up being people that think like you and 'them' being the decision-makers that just don't consult you in the organization you work for. You bond with this group on one side of the bridge.Across the bridge is a group that has chosen a different approach. They are all-in committed to the company they work for. This group is trying to make a difference each day with the resources they have even in spite of challenging circumstances. This side of the bridge is where visionaries get together and talk about what we are trying to create for those they serve through their organization and how they can get there. Each side of the bridge actually feels like indigestion to the other side. The same discussions, energy and work environment aren't preferred by these two groups. So the question becomes - which side leads to more happiness and results in the long term? This is a personal choice for all of us. My invitation is to choose wisely. Then, there is a select group that has the power to act as a bridge themselves. This is the magic of a true Reality-Based leader. They can seemingly live with a foot on both sides at the same time if needed, without judgment of either side. This person is a mindset-shifter and energy manager. One that can act as a bridge doesn't people-please to fit in on either side. They understand that, as a bridge, they exist to gently ensure our visionary, high-accountables in our organization don't get righteous and judgmental of the other side. Simultaneously, they offer those on the side of the bridge choosing disengagement and halted evolution plenty of calls to greatness and invitations to consider a mindset 'how we could' given the circumstances we may be facing. Many are unaware that 'the bridge' exists as a role to play and a valuable one at that. It's easier to pick a side and represent it and disconnect from the other. "I'm the highly accountable one, they're not" or "Look at those over-achievers over there."Many stuck in disengagement and resistance will not take the bridge to the other side. Whether it is fear of losing an identity or the camaraderie they've built with similar mindsets on that side. The lesson for all of us is you can only work with the willing. So notice which side of the bridge you are consistently on at the moment. Is disengagement in your current work situation calling you to consider testing the other side - even for a small period of time? And for those of you who've been on this journey with me for a while that are now all-in and highly-accountable, practicing drama diffusing and energy management each day - it is time to step into the role of the bridge. Wholeheartedly. We could all use more bridges out there.-Alex

Ever find yourself with so much on your mind that you want to accomplish that you are almost frozen? I find myself often getting ahead of myself thinking about what amazing things are coming or can come in the future and missing the reality that each moment I spend 'ahead of myself' I am taking no action in the moment. In this episode, I share this realization and how it has opened me up to not violently coming back to focus when this pattern occurs, but to instead gently notice that I am off-track, acknowledge it and then return back to, "what is the very next thing I could do to help?" This noticing and return is so powerful to stop getting so far ahead of myself. This realization is what this blog and podcast is all about.WANT TO MASTER THE CORE TOOLS AND IDEAS TO DITCH THE DRAMA AT WORK AND COACH YOUR TEAMS TO GREATNESS EACH DAY?Buy my No Ego: The Reality of Peace, Happiness and Great Results Virtual Course. If you haven't signed up to read the Workplace Portal newsletter - be sure to do so now:info.realitybasedleadership.com/portal BLOG: Getting ahead of yourselfWhen you get ahead of yourself, you get behind in your work. They move in opposite directions. When you get ahead of yourself, you lose sight of what is right in front of you - the relationships, the opportunities, the movement that needs to happen to have a chance at arriving where you are looking ahead to. When you get ahead of yourself, you turn away from the next step on your journey even though it is right there in the corner of your eye. Smiling at you. Knowing you are avoiding it. Liking that you are avoiding it. Just glance at where you think you want to be from time to time - but don't get attached to it. That life isn't moving - it's there if it is supposed to be there. Just take a deep breath, turn your head and make eye contact with that very next step that is smirking at you - seeing if you'll miss it yet again by getting too far ahead of yourself. Go up to it and take a baby step, a small stride or a huge leap of action with it. But let's never again ignore that 'next step to add impact' for the sake of getting ahead of yourself. -Alex

This is the fastest way to start transforming your teams in less than 10 minutes. So if you are someone thinking about:How can I be a more consistent contributor in my role at work? What can I do for my team to stay consistently energized? What great reflective exercises can I share with my team to improve performance and get better results? How to continue to evolve my leadership to be happy and successful regardless of challenging circumstances? How to identify the most 'willing' people on my team to buy-in and continue to develop them? Then this will be a great podcast for you!For those that haven't listened to the updated podcast yet. The new format is to read a blog that has been previously released on my Workplace Portal Newsletter that comes out every other Wednesday (get signed up to receive that here!) and after reading, I add a few stories, the inspiration behind the blog, why it was on my mind and/or why I think it can help you continue to move beyond drama in your career.Below is the full blog in it's entirety in case you want to share it:Title: Willing, Able and SteadyThree massive pieces to a successful and happy career. Are you willing? You cannot work with the unwilling AND you cannot make great impact in the world with half-hearted willingness. Most people put spend enormous amounts of energy either focused on the most unwilling or showing up each day with low willingness to do what it takes at work. They spend hours trying to bargain, beg, and plead for their unwilling folks to finally get on board. Or, they show up to work every day collecting a paycheck, but their mind is somewhere else.Gallup tells us that nearly 70% of the American workforce quits their jobs every single day. The problem is they keep coming to work and collecting a paycheck. This is active or passive disengagement from the work they do and essentially, underlying unwillingness to buy-in each day.So notice this idea of willingness - yours and others - and spend as little energy as possible working with unwillingness. Are you able?If you find your workplace experience shifting to the point where you feel you are "unable" to do your job at a high level - stop ignoring that feeling. Notice it.That is a gift. It is shining light on your next growth opportunities. If emerging tech or new software, for example, is swallowing up the way your job was done in the past, don't continue to resist and hunker down until the transition passes.Remember you have the ability to continuously evolve.Look at the last thing you learned - a new recipe, a new skill within your favorite hobby, or how to assemble something you bought online through a YouTube tutorial. You have an endless ability to learn and absorb, but many don't generalize that skillset of learning to adapt to less-than-preferred newness (aka change) at work.Realize you are able, but you haven't applied it to this new situation yet. Step into the learning in front of you, take the training or learn the new skill with this shifted perspective.Too many continue to skip the necessary growth needed in any profession yet continue trying to do their job without modernizing their skillsets and live in fear and defense each day to not be "found out" that they are 'unable' to deliver what's needed in their new reality. No happiness flourishes there. Are you steady?Have you ever had that team member that quickly responds with, "I'll add that to my list." and you come to find out, a few weeks later, that the 'list' they referenced often disappears and no action is taken? One day this person is a rockstar, gets it done at all cost, and succeeds in spite of the facts, and the next day, you can barely recognize their work.Maybe we've all had moments in our careers personally when this was the case. This is all about steadiness and being steady is highly underrated. Can you consistently show up to work in 'high-self' and bring energy to move us forward? Or is your energy or effort highly dependent on external circumstances in your life? Two people can be in very similar challenging circumstances and, based on their mindset, one stays steady while the other can no longer be relied on to continue executing their role.Steadiness is tied to our accountability levelsgiven the circumstances, but isn't dependant on our circumstances.Pause and reflect. In this moment of your career:- Are you consistently willing (whole-heartedly bought-in each day)?- Are you able (updating my skillset as needed)?and, most importantly...- Are you steady (in my accountability level regardless of my circumstances)? If not, you know what to do. You always have. Go be great.-Alex
