Your winning story of the day..... Bill The Thrill! "(The names of the people and cemetery have been changed for privacy)My wife is from South Arkansas and while visiting there one weekend last spring, her grandmother wanted to visit the cemetery where her family was buried to put new arrangements on a few of her family's grave sites. My wife, her mom, grandmother and I pull up to the cemetery, get out and head toward the graves. We were the only people there, no other cars etc. It was your typical cemetery, being older there were some trees but not a lot, mostly flat land and gravesites - it was nicely landscaped and well maintained. Once we got to the grave sites where the family was buried, my wife's grandmother starts telling me about their family history and who each person was and how they were kin to my wife. After about 10 minutes of talking this older man appears behind us and ask how we were doing. He is tall; he's wearing a grey shirt and pants, work boots and carrying a rake in his hand. He had a full head of white hair and what I remember most about him was his eyes, they were a piercing blue. Needless to say, never seeing or hearing him approach us - we were startled thinking that we were there all alone in this graveyard. We basically, all in unison, said "We're good, how are you?"He ask us where we were from - we told him and he tells us his name is "Bill Johnson" and that his family bought this land 200 years ago and that his whole family including his wife and children were buried here. He points in the direction towards the front of the cemetery (where we walked in) and said "Right over there is where we're all buried." We ask him if he knew any of our family members that were buried here and he knew a few of them - he even told us things we didn't know about some of them! I ask him if he lived in the area and he said "I'm 92". Thinking he couldn't hear well, I just smiled and said something like, "That's great".After a little more small talk he said he needed to go and do some more work and told us it was nice talking to us and walked away. When he left us he starting whistling a song - My mother in law said is he whistling "When the roll is called up yonder" (an old church hymnal) we listened and sure enough he was.As we were getting ready to remove and add new arrangements my wife asks me if I would go to the car and get some items. As I turned and walked towards the car, I looked around for the old man (it had only been maybe 30-45 seconds since we said our goodbyes) - he was nowhere in sight. My first thought was that he had fallen, you could see all around this cemetery and the trees weren't big enough to hide him.I keep walking towards our car and looking around for him and as I get to the front entrance of the gate I see a lot of gravesites with the name "Johnson" on them. As I got closer, I see a grave of a husband and wife that had their pictures on them, next to the grave site on the husbands side was a rake like the old man was carrying , just laying there on the ground. I looked around and still didn't see the old man. As I walked by, I stop to look at the pictures and almost fell out. The photo of the man looked exactly like the man we just met - Bill Johnson, eyes, hair, everything! The date on the headstone for the man was (Birth 1921 - Death 2008) this would put him around 92 years old! The name on the grave...Bill and Louise Johnson!!!!! I yelled at my wife and family to come check it out and they were all freaking out. My wife's grandmother said "On that's just a coincidence".When we left that afternoon, we got into the car and as we drove down the road I turned on the radio and was trying to find some tunes, the only radio station that would come in clear was a Christian station. Guess what the song playing on the radio was.....I kid you not....."When the roll is called up yonder". Grandma was speechless - We turned the radio off and road in silence all the way home."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

24.2.23What Happens Next? What Is Reproductive Justice? | 80 In the wake of the US Supreme Court's decision to strike down Roe v Wade, women and pregnancy-capable people were left reeling. It was a clear example of how hard-won gains can be reversed, even decades later. The silver lining is that the decision brought attention to issues surrounding reproductive care that had long been overlooked or simply ignored. Protests in the US and beyond highlighted the global importance of continued advocacy for access to healthcare, better education, and adequate resources. On a new episode of Monash University's “What Happens Next?” podcast, host Dr Susan Carland talks to the healthcare providers and advocates working tirelessly to educate people about their health options, ensure that we don't lose ground in the global fight for reproductive justice, and dismantle the systems that have left women's healthcare on the back burner. This episode's guests are human rights law expert Dr Tania Penovic; pharmacist Dr Safeera Hussainy; pharmacology researcher Dr Sab Ventura; alumna Louise Johnson, former CEO for the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority; and Dr Danielle Mazza, head of Monash's Department of General Practice and director of the SPHERE Centre of Research Excellence in Women's Sexual and Reproductive Health and Primary Care. In this Conceive Baby discussion we talk about quite a controversial topic in the fertility field. A topic that's received significant media attention, which has raising many questions and concerns from those going through or considering IVF treatment. Embryo freezing. Specifically what your options and rights are if you have ‘spare' embryos. There have been many concerning reports of embryos being 'stolen' and families torn apart. Here we get the facts you need to know. I two experts in the field, Louise Johnson and Karin Hammarberg. Louise is the CEO for the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA), a position which she has held for past ten years. Louise oversees VARTA's administration of aspects of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 as well as its public education about assisted reproductive treatment, the health and welfare of children born as a result of treatment, and the causes and prevention of infertility. From 1st March 2017, VARTA took over management of the Victorian donor conception registers, providing a “one door in” approach to counselling support and information associated with donor conception and the donor registers. Louise is also spokesperson for the Your Fertility program which provides advice to people on ways to optimise their fertility. She has an Honours degree in science, postgraduate qualifications in education and management and a Masters in Regulatory Studies. Karin Hammarberg is Senior Research Officer at the Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA) and Senior Research Fellow at Jean Hailes Research Unit, School of Population Health and Preventative Medicine at Monash University. Enjoy the discussion!
In this episode of the Conceive Baby Webinar Series we discuss a very topical issue in fertility, and that's donor conception. We now not only have donor sperm, we also have donor eggs and donor embryos. In a previous episode I spoke with Louise Johnson and Karin Hammarberg from the Government Body VARTA about the legalities and your rights and options around donor conception and today we're going to discuss the actual process. What is involved in a donor conception from egg donation perspective. Today I'm speaking with Dr Raelia Lew. Raelia graduated from medicine at Monash University with Honours, and later trained as a Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. Raelia went on to completed her Masters of Medicine in Reproductive Health Science and Human Genetics at The University of Sydney and graduated from a Doctorate of Philosophy in the area of Preconception Health Promotion and Reproductive Genetics in 2016. Her PhD research was commenced at the University of Sydney and completed in Cambridge, UK. As a qualified specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Raelia undertook further RANZCOG (Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) accredited Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) training. Fewer than 2% of Australian Obstetricians and Gynaecologists hold a CREI. It represents the highest level of Australasian post-graduate training in IVF, Reproductive Endocrinology, Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynaecology Surgery, Comprehensive Fertility Care, Andrology (Male Fertility and hormone management) and Assisted Reproductive Technologies. This episode of Unofficial Partner is the first of a series in which we look at sports market through the lens of one of the biggest media and marketing networks in the world, Omnicom. This allows us to get beyond the bubble of the sport sponsorship industry and look at sport through a wider lens and allows us to ask some broader questions as to the value of sport to brand clients. So this is a conversation about what CMOs want from their marketing spend, and whether sport is equipped to deliver on those demands, we note the gap between the level of digital inventory on offer within sponsor term sheets, compared to the demand for digital advertising generally, which leads to the question, is sport selling what brands want to buy? Our guests are three business leaders from across the Omnicom media network. Louise Johnson is CEO of Fuse, Omnicom's sport and entertainment agency, with clients including PepsiCo, Barclays, FedEx, Nissan, Vodafone, Royal London, EasyJet and Klarna. Louise is joined by Dan Clay, CEO of Omnicom Media Group and Bhavin Balvantrai, Chief Market Analyst, OMG Group UK. Louise Johnson is a former beauty marketing executive turned full-time journalist who recently wrote her first book, Behind the Red Door: How Elizabeth Arden's Legacy Inspired My Coming-of-Age Story in the Beauty Industry.I have to say that this was an interesting episode for me. Louise and I dive into the history surrounding Florence Nightingale Graham (aka Elizabeth Arden), who was a Canadian business magnate that pioneered the modern beauty industry. I was puzzled that I did not know Elizabeth Arden was Canadian or that her name was Florence Nightingale Graham before I encountered Louise's book. Not only was Elizabeth Arden one of the richest women in the world, and inducted into the American business hall-of-fame, but she and I were even born in the same town of Woodbridge Ontario. We chat about Louise's time working at Elizabeth Arden and some of the parallels between her journey and that of Florence Nightingale Graham. We discuss risk taking, the importance of introspection, pursuing your personal version of success, the impact of social media on our psyche, the impact of beauty standards on young people, and so much more.Louise is a real gem, a brilliant writer, and I encourage you to check out her book.Louise Social Media Instagram @LouiseclairejohnsonTwitter @LouiseJohnsonTOLouise YouTubeLouise Website and BookMike "Ryan" G Contact InformationYouTube Channel - This is a brand new channel. Her debut book, “Behind the Red Door: How Elizabeth Arden's Legacy Inspired My Coming-of-Age in the Beauty Industry,” is equal parts educational biography of a woman whose name we know, but whose biography has been largely lost to time and memoir. Then, later in the show Noa Daniels stops by. Noa is a classroom teacher, consultant, podcaster and keynote speaker, and writer. Her third children's book, “Strum and The Wild Turkeys,” is a book about finding your voice through a sense of belonging and the transformational power of music and was inspired by a true story.

Have you ever felt like your life was falling apart beneath your feet? If yes, you're not alone, and to be fairly honest, it's probably an experience that each of us goes through at some point in life. Louise Johnson was exactly in this place seven years ago after going through a traumatic divorce. Even though she spent most of her life in Edinburgh, Scotland, she decided to move to Vancouver, Canada soon after her divorce and start her life over. Fast forward till today, Louise has called Vancouver, Canada her home since 2013. While she focused on furthering her career in Sales & Marketing, Louise wrote her first memoir in 2019, Lou Who, following a transformative six-year period. In this episode we dive into: Louise's experience of healing from a traumatic experience how she regained her strength & discovered a new version of herself, what inspired her to write her first book, the myths of perfection, and the fact that there's no perfect ending the gift of giving yourself grace, sitting with emotions, and giving yourself the permission to feel There's so much more we dive into with Lou. Episode description: Melissa Louise Johnson is a Marriage and Family Therapist, adjunct professor at Bethel University, and the founder of the Impossible Beauty blog and podcast. Through her work at Impossible Beauty, Melissa is on a mission to expand and renew beauty, as she believes the American brand of beauty is divisive, destructive, and far too narrow. Melissa explores the concept of beauty with us in this episode of Peace Meal. She describes how cultural beauty messages impacted her childhood, adolescence, and the development of her eating disorder, as well as how she recognized and reckoned with these messages in recovery. Appearance standards were set early in Melissa’s life. Animated princesses, sitcom actresses—all of the media's kind and “good” characters—reinforced a singular image of beauty. External beauty was important, the media showed. And beautiful meant thin. On top of these media images, another layer of cultural messaging emerged in Melissa’s adolescence and early adulthood. These messages, Melissa sees now, included disordered ideas about food and body. Her peers actively engaged in diets and swapped diet culture messages, all of which reinforced dieting as a means to meet the thin beauty ideal. It was in eating disorder treatment that Melissa began to critically examine society’s messages about beauty, thinness, and dieting. In group therapy, she observed how these messages had impacted other people’s lives, her heart breaking at all the damage they inflicted. “We’ve been so lied to about what beauty is and our worth,” she came to realize. Increasingly aware of these cultural lies about physical appearance, Melissa sought to redefine the concept of beauty for herself and others. Toward that end, she created Impossible Beauty, a blog and podcast that aim to expand narrow societal standards. In her work at Impossible Beauty, Melissa differentiates between culture’s fleeting, fickle standards of beauty and true beauty, which is eternal and unchanging. The blog and podcast invite others to examine appearance expectations as well. “There is actually another path that we can take that actually values our humanity and the sacredness of us as eternal beings—who have so much value beyond how we align or don’t align to this very small picture of beauty,” Melissa says. On today's chapter of the Word Weaver Podcast I have the surreal experience of speaking with ANOTHER author named Louise Johnson on the launch day of her debut memoir, Lou Who?I couldn't pass up the opportunity to speak with my literary doppelgänger and I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did!Louise moved from Scotland to Vancouver following a traumatic divorce and turned her transformative six-year period into a self-reflective memoir: detailing her discovery of selfhood, personal health, sexuality and ultimately her gratitude for this land she now calls home, which has returned her to the essence of herself. Her writing style is unabashed and her stories are anything but sugarcoated. As a writer, Louise believes in conveying her experiences using a mixture of stark reality and dark humour; and as a woman, she's not afraid to tell the truth, especially if that truth is hard.If you're considering self-publishing vs. traditional publishing, Louise has some great insight on her positive experience with The Self Publishing Agency.Happy listening!Connect With LouiseWebsite: louisejohnsonauthor.comInstagram: @_louise_johnson_Facebook: /louisejohnsonauthorWord Weaver Podcast LinksInstagram: @wordweaverpodcastWebsite: louiseclairejohnson.com/podcast#wordweaverpodcastIntro Song: Late July by Shakey GravesOutro Song: Way With Words by BahamasNEW episodes are posted weekly.Don't forget to subscribe, leave a review and screenshot/share the Word Weaver Podcast on social media as it helps more people find it! Hello Jen and Amanda, I’m STRUGGLING because everywhere I go right now (shops, bookstagram, etc) I’m seeing Christmas books, which is great except that I can’t relate because I don’t celebrate Christmas. I’m Jewish but surprisingly, there are no ‘cosy cute and fun Hanukkah reads’ readily available to me. I’m looking for some holiday reads that have that cozy feeling, and are funny and/or heartwarming but NOT centred around Christmas. Books I like that have a similar vibe are A Christmas Carol, Moominland Midwinter, and most of Hans Christian Andersen’s books. I haven’t really read more contemporary fiction because I just haven’t been able to relate to it, but I would love if you could find something contemporary, bonus points if it actually has a Jewish character (double bonus if it’s written by or about a woman!) Sorry for the long question! I love your podcast and look forward to seeing your recommendations. -Diana

You can also hear more from Dr Lew in her podcast Knocked Up https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/knocked-up-the-podcast-about-getting-pregnant/id1381363197?mt=2
In this Conceive Baby discussion we talk about quite a controversial topic in the fertility field. A topic that’s received significant media attention, which has raising many questions and concerns from those going through or considering IVF treatment. Embryo freezing. Specifically what your options and rights are if you have ‘spare’ embryos. Louise oversees VARTA’s administration of aspects of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 as well as its public education about assisted reproductive treatment, the health and welfare of children born as a result of treatment, and the causes and prevention of infertility.
