In this episode of the Conceive Baby podcast, I am joined by fellow fertility naturopath Jacqui Lamplugh to discuss the role of progesterone in fertility, pregnancy and miscarriage. We hear a lot about the importance of progesterone but is low progesterone a cause of miscarriage, or is it a symptom of an underlying issue? What does progesterone actually do? How can you support low progesterone levels? We unpack all this and more, giving you specific insights into how you can help improve hormone balance and reduce your risk of miscarriage. Jacqui Lamplugh is a fertility naturopath and reproductive medicine expert. With over a decade of experience, Jacqui specialises in miscarriage prevention and supporting women experiencing pregnancy loss. Her journey into this field was shaped by her own experience with early pregnancy loss, which instilled in her a passion to provide better support and investigation into miscarriage causes. Key Takeaways:Progesterone is essential for maintaining a pregnancy but is not the primary marker for pregnancy success; its levels can fluctuate.Low progesterone is often a symptom rather than the root cause of a miscarriage; its levels typically drop when a pregnancy is non-viable.Potential signs of low progesterone include a short luteal phase, luteal spotting, and symptoms like PMS, pointing towards further investigation.Lifestyle and nutritional supplementation, such as with vitamin B6, vitamin C, and Chaste Tree, can support progesterone levels but should be part of a comprehensive fertility plan.Testing for progesterone levels should be conducted seven days post-ovulation for accuracy.Notable Quotes:"Progesterone is that like pro-gestation hormone and it is there to hold that endometrial lining steady waiting for implantation.""We can't ignore the importance of thyroid; an underactive thyroid can impact progesterone levels.""Even if it is chromosomal issues as to why the miscarriage happened - there are markers we can be testing.""Bad luck is not a diagnosis; it's not a treatment plan.""With the science and knowledge we have, we can identify the cause of 99% of miscarriages."Resources:More about Jacqui Lamplugh's work: www.jacquilamplugh.comEpisode mentioned - Fertility and the Immune System with Professor Sarah RobertsonMentioned in this episode:Fertility Over 40 GuideLearn the 5 Things you need to do NOW to boost your chances of pregnancy over 40! In this episode of the Conceive Baby podcast, my wonderful colleague, fellow Fertility Naturopath Rhiannon Hardingham joins me to discuss the unique challenges and solutions involved in managing endometriosis and creating a healthy pregnancy.   Endometriosis is common yet often misunderstood condition that impacts millions of women, yet diagnosis can take an average of 7 years or more, with considerable suffering in between.  We dive into the complex nature of endometriosis, and explore how this condition extends far beyond its diagnosis of ‘misplaced endometrial tissue'. With a focus on practical resolutions, we unpack the underlying drivers including immune dysregulation, inflammation, and the intertwining of genetics and microbiome health and draw a clear picture of what you can do to reduce symptoms, improve fertility, and increase your chances of conceiving a healthy baby.  Expert Guest - Rhiannon Hardingham is a renowned naturopath, presenter, practitioner, educator, mentor, and author with over 16 years of experience specialising in infertility and IVF support. She has made significant strides in the integration of natural and conventional medicine, often working alongside top fertility doctors in Melbourne to achieve the best outcomes for patients. Rhiannon is a respected voice in her field, routinely invited to present on collaborative patient care to medical specialists and naturopaths. She also fulfils her passion for education by providing professional mentoring to functional medicine practitioners. Authorship is among her achievements; co-authoring "Create a Fertile Life," a preconception healthcare guide, stands as a testament to her commitment and expertise in fertility health. Website: https://www.rhreproductivehealth.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rhihardingham/ Endometriosis is more than just tissue growth outside the uterus; it involves immune dysregulation and microbiome dysbiosis, making it a multifactorial condition. Diagnostic strategies for endometriosis include ultrasound, laparoscopy, CA-125 blood tests, and there is an emerging role for MRI assessments. Diet and lifestyle modifications, such as consuming high-fibre foods and omega-3-rich fish, avoiding processed foods, and engaging in regular exercise, can have significant impacts on managing endometriosis. The microbiome plays a pivotal role in the regulation of inflammation and immunity; specific probiotic strains like Lactobacillus rhamnosus, reuteri, and crispatus are beneficial for uterine health. Individualised approaches in treatment, testing, and supplementation, including considerations for hormone clearance pathways, are critical for optimal outcomes in managing endometriosis and fertility challenges.

In this episode of the Conceive Baby Podcast, we're diving into the world of menstrual cycles and particularly how to better understand your unique cycle to help you create your healthy pregnancy. A healthy menstrual cycle and ovulation is vital to creating a pregnancy but did you know you may be getting your period without ovulating? If you are ovulating, only around 14% of women actually ovulate on day 14 like the text book tells us? Also that once ovulated, your egg only lives for about 12 – 24 hours each month! But is really only capable of being fertilized in the first 4 hours! Yet despite how important this is, research shows that almost 90% of women attending IVF clinics, didn't have a good understanding of their cycle and their fertile window. So today we're going to be talking about how you can get a better understanding of your cycle and your fertile window as well as new technology that can help make it even easier. And to dive into this topic, my guest today is Olivia Orchowski. Olivia is a personal trainer, women's health coach, doula, and founder of Femtek. Olivia has spent almost a decade working with women, and in that time realised just how many of these women were suffering from poor body literacy, menstrual health issues, and were utterly disconnected from their fifth vital sign. This lead her to years of research and development, to then birth Femtek into the world. Infertility is a team sport. Yet, for many, the focus is on the woman. Not only in regards to preconception health, testing, treatment and diagnosis, but also around emotional health and support. Jon Summers is leading the charge when it comes to opening up this conversation around infertility for men. Just like women, men can experience a fertility diagnosis. And just like women, that diagnosis brings it uncertainty, fear, guilt and all sorts of emotional turbulence. Many men feel negative emotions as they watch their partners suffer, both with the burden of fertility treatment and also the pain that they may feel for their missing baby. After surviving testicular cancer, Jon and his partner Laura went through 15 IVF cycles, 2 sperm retrieval surgeries and thousands of injections. They discovered that infertility is a marathon that requires strength and resilience. Jon's pragmatic yet jovial approach to the challenge of infertility helps to ease a bit of the burden, especially for men. In this episode, Jon shares his personal infertility journey, what he has learned along the way (and the mistakes he'd like to help you avoid!) as well as his tips and advice for navigating the journey through infertility.
