You “kinda” don't want to miss this week's episode of Hey Sis, Eat This, as we welcome special guests Julie Paiva, a talented screenwriter known for Kinda Pregnant, now airing on Netflix, and her wonderful sister Lisa. Together, they share a heartfelt and humorous look at their unconventional childhood in Northern California, celebrating the life lessons and creativity imparted by their remarkable mother, Momma Bibi. We rewind to the ‘80s, when Momma Bibi and Dad Michael divorced when the sisters were seven and ten. Bibi chose stability first when co-parenting, keeping her girls in their childhood home with their dad, while still fostering a close relationship with them through foodie filled adventures. Daddy Michael tackled single-parent mode with “French-Toast Thursdays,” microwave-cooking classes, and a very liberal kitchen-only cigarette policy that cured any teen smoking phase fast . A Sufi seeker who swaps small talk for theories on the nature of time, Momma Bibi raised her daughters on spiritual “square dancing” and Cheez Whiz with jarred beef on annual camping trips. Her trademark Bibi-isms (“blow your nose, get a little glass of orange juice, take two sips then tell me what happened”) still echo whenever life gets wobbly . Tune in to hear how Bibi instilled in her daughters the importance of love, peace, and connection, and how she encouraged them to embrace their individuality and celebrate their own unique paths. Also, make sure to check out Julie's hit movie, Kinda Pregnant, starring Amy Schumer, now playing on Netflix and her next venture, a children's book series launching with The Lucky Penny, inspired by Momma Bibi's DIY optimism. In this Episode: This episode of the Achieve Results NOW! podcast focuses on creating "lucky pennies" or positive outcomes in your life through mindset and action, rather than relying on superstition. Hosts Mark Cardone and Theron Feidt discuss how to cultivate a sense of luck by focusing on positive expectations and reflections. Here's a summary of their key points: The Pygmalion Effect: The belief in something (or someone) can influence the outcome. If you believe you'll have a good day, you're more likely to. Pattern Recognition: Success can be found by recognizing patterns of positive outcomes and replicating them. Creating "Luck": The hosts emphasize that luck is often created through action and a positive mindset. Ever want to know what it sounds like to go vintage shopping with a friend who spills all the details about their shitty ex in a distinctive mid-range vibrato? Well this is the episode for you!Come join as we spend time with Portland, OR based, singer/songwriter Kendall Lujan. Her music grabbed my ears from the first time I heard it, and I've had it on heavy rotation ever since. Extremely fresh and new take on things, and her voice and vocalizations are distinctly her own.In addition to diving in to her catalog (hard to decide which tracks to play!), we also learn that music was her comfort and happy place, even as a baby, and the universe orchestrated a chance meeting with one Carlos Santana who gave her encouragement and advice (albeit a little weird) at 11.However struggles with anxiety and performing her own music kept her from playing her originals publicly until 2020. But she was recognized for her unique talent rather quickly by Dominic Schmidt of Rola and helped her record her music and get on tour in Europe. She now has a handle on the anxiety, but it needs to be worked like a muscle, she says, and if she doesn't exercise it, it can become difficult again. Her debut album Lucky Penny drops this week! And Kendall will perform live on the show with us, so don't miss it!Text us your thoughts on this episode, and who should be OUR #NextFavBand...As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". it's safe to relax into the comfort of you (headphone recommended + read description) There's a lot of interesting sound effects, if that is something that bothers you, please do not listen. About me/this video: I've been channeling professionally for almost 10 years. I DO NOT claim to know the nature of reality (or really much of anything - I sometimes don't even get my own channeled messages til years later), but I do intentionally make myself a vessel for "the highest best most loving good across all timelines." And I was asked to channel a message while sitting in what was (at the time of being asked to receive this message) a quiet kitchen. As I got into the receiving mode and was beginning the message, my mom and her dog came in the kitchen and made a bunch of noise. The Guidance had me continue with it and it was really fun and interesting. So thank you to mom, dog and all the objects around me for adding your energetic messages. It felt correct to continue and to include/allow the sounds - further, one video in the editing didn't keep the mute on it and I don't know how but it was perfect timing and I love the ADHD friendly/satisfying experience all the "added elements" creates! The MP3 was titled: "Embody Your Pure Form" (bounced at 8:10pm) the Logic project file was titled 10/16. The videos were all from beautiful moments in my life. The music is me using Logic and Unison MIDI Wizard and Sound Doctor. Get my meditative pop music here: @iammarisalynn Thumbnail is Leonardo and Mothra sitting on top of a pine bird house with a lucky penny from 2008 resting on Leo's left foot, slightly left of the middle. Disclaimer: I'm just a human sharing things I make for myself that serve me, in hopes you enjoy it too. I make no claims other than that you're awesome and I'm so glad you're here.

Have Gun - Will Travel is a Western series that aired on CBS from 1957 to 1963. It follows the adventures of Paladin, a gentleman gunfighter who travels the Old West helping those in need. The series was created by Sam Rolfe and Herb Meadow, and starred Richard Boone as Paladin. The show was a critical and commercial success, and spawned a successful radio version. It was one of the few shows in television history to be adapted into a radio series. The title of the show is a variation on a cliche used in personal advertisements in newspapers. It was popularized by the show in the 1950s and 1960s, and many variations have been used as titles for other works. Here are some additional facts about the show: The series was set in the Old West, but the exact time period was never specified. It is generally believed to be set in the 1870s or 1880s. Paladin was a skilled gunfighter, but he was also a gentleman. He was always willing to help those in need, even if it meant putting himself in danger. He was a complex character, and his motivations were not always clear. The show featured a number of recurring characters, including Paladin's sidekick, Hey Boy. Hey Boy was a Chinese man who served as Paladin's cook, valet, and friend. He was a loyal and trusted companion. Have Gun - Will Travel was a popular show, and it was nominat ed for a number of awards, including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Western Series. It won the award in 1960. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dwight-allen0/support
“It's someone's 50th wedding anniversary. They're celebrating a new baby. We've had surprise engagements. We've had people mourning the loss of someone they loved. Every human emotion and experience you can imagine is being shared around this table. And I feel it is this huge responsibility we have to care for that, to nurture it. To create lifelong memories for our guests.” We're in great company with Sherry Villanueva, Founder and Managing Partner of ACME Hospitality celebrating 10 years of creating happiness for her guests and teams alike, with innovative food & beverage concepts and boutique hotels sprinkled around California. Over this time, Sherry has curated a village of hospitality loving hosts, gastro-geeks, delightful diners and ravenous regulars throughout Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, the Sierra Nevada Foothills and soon San Juan Capistrano. In this episode, Sherry delves into the deep connection she has with her two historic hotels in California's Gold Country, the National Exchange Hotel in Nevada City and the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley, lovingly restored by local artists, designers and craftspeople. Listen as she invites us all to experience 165 years of history and welcome a change in the seasons, as we say goodbye to our Indian summer and hello to a warm festive winter. Top Takeaways [1:45] Sherry spent a career traveling the world tracking trends, learning a lot about human behavior before founding ACME Hospitality for “people passionate about caring for people.” [6:40] The moment the stars aligned for Sherry happened to be in her own backyard of Santa Barbara, CA when she was tapped to revitalize a neighborhood called “The Funk Zone.” [10:30] A look back at 10 years of ACME Hospitality includes lots of laughs, a lot of tears, and learning “how to pace and embrace the chaos.” [13:20] Get to know Santa Barbara's culinary scene with ACME Hospitality through The Lark, the restaurant that started it all, Loquita, serving authentic Spanish tapas, La Paloma Cafe, celebrating Santa Maria traditions, The Helena Avenue Bakery, where everything is scratch-made, Lucky Penny, spinning out wood-fired pizzas, Tyger Tyger, with its vegan Thai cuisine, Santa Barbara Wine Collective, a tasting room featuring small family run wineries, and Pearl Social, a music and cocktail lounge. [18:20] When Sherry set off to restore two historical boutique hotels in California's Gold Country, she wanted to ensure a deep sense of community - stewarding culturally significant properties, supporting local purveyors, investing in local non-profits, and connecting to nature. [26:35] The National Exchange Hotel with its Victorian era spirit, is full of rich colors and patterns, opulent furnishings, lovingly restored original features, and mysterious details around every corner that continue to surprise guests as they explore further. [33:40] Sherry explains how two towns such as Nevada City and Grass Valley, which may be just minutes apart, can feel worlds away. Nevada City, full of true craftsmen, sets the scene for a Hallmark movie, while Grass Valley with its rugged edge, is the heart and grit that built the industry. [38:40] The Holbrooke Hotel, where modern luxuries blend seamlessly with a historically unique, rustic-yet-refined, one-of-a-kind property, features the oldest saloon in California serving patrons for over 165 years. [48:00] Since opening another boutique hotel, Azure Sky in Palm Springs, Sherry is setting her sights on San Juan Capistrano, with another hotel and two restaurants opening soon. Starting any business requires your energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the space, but to catalyze its success, you also need a mission, vision, and business plan. Our next guest, Sherry Villanueva, was a first-time hospitality entrepreneur, but with a focused vision and mission, she's been able to successfully grow a multifaceted restaurant and hotel company. The mission is simple: Make people happy. Sherry is the founder and managing partner of Acme Hospitality and proudly serves as the owner and operator of an innovative collection of restaurants and historic hotels. If you've spent any time in Santa Barbara, we guarantee you've eaten, sipped on a fun cocktail, or enjoyed a glass of wine (or some combination of the three) at one of her spots like Loquita, The Lark, Santa Barbara Wine Collective, La Paloma Cafe, Lucky Penny, Helena Ave Bakery, and numerous others. With over a decade in the business, Sherry and her team diversified their portfolio several years back, started Acme Lodging, and have since opened historic properties in Grass Valley, Nevada City, and the newly opened 1950's mid-century modern Palm Springs hotel, Azure Sky. Sherry discusses helping pioneer Santa Barbara's Funk Zone, gives us a look into her creative process, and foreshadows what we can expect from her and her team in the years to come. The concept of the "lucky penny" is a well-known superstition that has been passed down for generations. The belief that finding a penny brings good luck is a prevalent belief in many cultures. It is interesting to explore the origins of this superstition and how it became so ingrained in our culture. The history of the penny can be traced back to ancient times when coins were often used for religious purposes. People believed that placing coins in graves, it would ensure safe passage to the afterlife. This practice continued through the Middle Ages when people would bury coins in the foundations of buildings for good luck. This is where the belief that coins bring good luck originates. The term "lucky penny" can be traced back to the early 20th century when the penny was first introduced in the United States. At that time, the penny was considered a valuable coin, and finding one was a stroke of good fortune. The idea that a penny could bring good luck became popular, and people started carrying them for good luck. During World War II, the United States Mint produced steel pennies because copper was needed for the war effort. These pennies were unpopular because they were easily mistaken for dimes and were often rejected by vending machines. The government issued a statement saying that finding a copper penny was a sign of good luck, and this helped to boost the popularity of the lucky penny superstition. The lucky penny superstition has continued to thrive in modern times. Many people still believe that finding a penny brings good luck, and some even carry one with them at all times. The superstition has also been used in popular culture, with references to the lucky penny appearing in movies, books, and television shows. In conclusion, the superstition of the lucky penny has a long history, dating back to ancient times when coins were used for religious purposes. The popularity of the penny as a lucky charm can be traced back to the early 20th century when the penny was first introduced in the United States. The belief in the lucky penny continues to this day and has become an ingrained part of our culture. Whether it is a real source of good luck or not, the idea of the lucky penny is a comforting one that brings hope and positivity to those who believe in it. www.chucktuck.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chucktuck/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chucktuck/support

Welcome to May 23, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the luck you are given and the kind you make for yourself. The first one-cent coin in America was minted in 1787, and was designed by Benjamin Franklin. On one side, it read “Mind Your Business” and the other “We Are One,” though we're not sure which side counted as heads or tails. Pennies don't have much value, but finding one on the street is still a symbol of luck. If you abide by this superstition, be sure to pick up a penny showing “heads.” And if it shows “tails” flip the coin to heads and leave it for the next person. Who knows if this is what Ben Franklin had in mind, but on National Lucky Penny Day, celebrate the choice to pick up a little luck throughout our day. Life is full of happy accidents, it's all in how you look at things. Consider the story of salt water taffy. In 1883, David Bradley of Atlantic City, New Jersey walked into his store to find his entire supply of taffy had been covered in ocean water during a local storm. When a girl came in that morning to buy some candy, Bradley joked that he only had salt water taffy. She willingly tried a piece and found it was delicious, and then ran down the beach to tell her friends. Salt water taffy is now a mainstay at candy stores and gift shops everywhere. On National Taffy Day, celebrate the sweet solutions to any sticky situation. And thank your lucky stars for those big storms. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Nashville is a town filled with great singers and great songwriters, and certain rare artists are endowed with exemplary gifts in both endeavors. Leeann Skoda is just that kind of artist, and although she's from Arizona and currently calls Los Angeles home, she chose Nashville as the setting to record her new EP, Lucky Penny. While it's true that Skoda cut her teeth singing choral music and the kinds of country standards that comprise the foundation of every storied building on Music Row, her musical evolution on Lucky Penny reveals that her palette is infinitely more varied than yet another cookie cutter country singer in a sequined shirt. Sure, she can pull off a convincing Emmylou, Maybelle Carter, or Sheryl Crow - and she's been doing so for years both with her own songs as well as a hired gun session singer - but the adventurous soundscapes of her new direction are more indicative of a Fumbling Towards Ecstasy-era Sarah McLachlan or even Radiohead's pioneering The Bends or OK Computer albums. The five gems on Lucky Penny were written during an especially inspired artistic period fomented by a month-long songwriting challenge with a friend, and the self-imposed ambitious parameters of turning out new songs day by day paid off in spades. Skoda makes both the writing and the singing sound easy, but they most certainly are not. Making rare gifts sound easy is the hallmark of a true artist.

Mr. Caldlow has lived in Dice his whole life. He knows it's streets better than the back of his hand. He worked for those at the top and those at the bottom fully aware that there wasn't much difference between the two. The Lucky Penny was a common stop for him as his former employer owned the well know yet secretive club. He had been there many times but today for the first time, standing in the rain at the front entrance, he shivered. Not because he was chilled, but because the world was so cold. Thank you for listening to Dice City: Culinary Courtesy with Fabricating Fiction. Special thanks to Timothy Tsistinas for narration, music composition, and performance. Joshua C.
