It's the week of all weeks for cycling tech. The Tour de France has kicked off, the world's largest cycling tradeshow – Eurobike – is on, and we've seen many smaller handmade bike shows, too. With that, Dave Rome, Brad Copeland, and Ronan Mc Laughlin have plenty of things to geek out over. The geeks discuss the new Classified and TRP drivetrain collab, plus new budget groupset options from Microshift and SRAM. Ronan gives a brief overview of Continental's new aero tyres, while there's also chat of a new fancy chain waxing tool seen at the Tour. There's a chat about how to keep a check on your brake tracks. And then to finish things off, you'll hear Brad and Dave discuss new hubs from OneUp, a new gravel bike from Giant, some question marks about Ohlins suspension, and the entrance of drone-experts DJI into bicycles (wait, what?). And lastly, the new Buffalo bike for World Bicycle Relief is discussed. And once again, we apologise for the sound quality on this one. Loic Bruni has five different electronic buttons on his prototype Specialized Demo downhill bike, and we're not even talking about shift levers. He, his mechanic Jack and Ohlins are all pretty tight-lipped about the functions they serve, but today we got a bit of information from the current World Cup DH leader himself.SuperBruni confirms the buttons are not Skittles, he seemingly teases that they're for playing music, and then says their function should be pretty easy to figure out. When asked if using them is confusing, he admits that keeping track of them is not easy and there are risks associated with hitting the wrong button at the wrong time. Regardless of their function or trickiness in pressing, Loic's in the lead right now, and that's really all that matters.

In this episode of Let's Assess I am talking about my thoughts when it comes to Ohlins Suspension and Fox suspension. If you are wondering what the best choice is for you, this should help. We dive into overall feel, adjustability, and price.
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about the 2024 Indian Motorcycles lineup. The Indian Motorcycle company hosted a media event in Southern California a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, we didn't get an invite but we have learned a few things since then. For the FTR, Scout, Springfield, and Chief the updates pretty much only consist of color and graphics. With that said, India released two new colors; Sunset Red Metallic and Sunset Red Smoke. A new model for 2024 is the FTR X 100% R CARBON. This was a collaboration with 100%, known mostly for riding goggles. This is a limited edition creation with only 400 units released worldwide. This new FTR sports Ohlins suspension, blue carbon fiber body parts, and Akrapovic exhaust. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE An Indian Motorcycle representative had this to say about the Scout lineup at the media event: "It's [2023] been an interesting year. It's a turbulent industry right now. You've probably seen earning reports from our brand and some of the other competitors in the space. We're navigating that really well. What's been cool to see for Indian specifically is our market share performance. A couple of weeks ago we had market share leadership in the mid-size category. That is our Scout lineup, for the first time and that is really cool to see. Leading with the Scout lineup, but we're going to focus on other lineups here today, but that continues to be a great performer for our brand. And that's bringing people into the Indian Motorcycle family and over time they're graduating into our other vehicles. So playing the long game there is working out nicely for us and it's good to see the response." CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Indian Motorcycles released a new audio upgrade they call Powerband. It is coming on the Elite models with what they call the bass boost tune. It has a 9-band equalizer, pre-tuned settings, ride command integration, and underglow speaker lighting. The speakers are rated at 100 watts as compared to the normal 50-watt speakers. Indian claims there is 50% more bass with this new system. Electronics and suspension are major components to a racing motorcycle, so we sat down with McAMS Yamaha electronics engineer Tim Seed and experienced Ohlins technician, Mike Norton, to try and find out more about things like rider aids, traction control (or lack of it), compression, rebound, and other phrases from the dark art of motorcycle set-up. It's the first time the fellas have done anything like this and they did a great job! The Yamaha name stands for a heritage of motorcycle performance and classic styling. Visit your local dealer to find the 2023 Yamaha sport heritage bike for you or go to YamahaMotorsports.com to find out more. This week, Editor Don Williams brings you the all-new Harley-Davidson Breakout. This uber-cool and fearsomely powerful motorcycle is not just a head-turner in the looks department. Don explores what he loves about the bike and points out its possible shortcoming as well. In our second segment, Teejay Adams chats with MotoGP commentator and technical guru, Simon Crafar. Many of you know that he was a successful top-level racer and an ex-Ohlins suspension tech, but it's less likely you know that he and his wife are also passionate dog lovers and rescuers too. Simon realized that many of his colleagues in the Paddock shared their desire. So they started Riders For Dogs—a non profit organisation that raises money to support dog rescue charities and they have had a hugely positive reaction from both the MotoGP Paddock as well as all you motorcyclists around the world. Check out their social media to see auctions of awesome rider gear, or of course you can just donate to this incredibly worthy cause. The big news is that an incredibly generous German couple recently donated a spectacular Honda RC45 in Castrol colors, similar to the one that Simon raced in the ‘90s. After Simon has finished with some necessary TLC, the bike will be auctioned and every penny raised will go to Riders For Dogs. As well as his charity work for dogs, Simon also gives us some opinions and insight into some of the current MotoGP happenings. Hello everyone and welcome once again to Motos and Friends—the weekly Podcast brought to you by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling. My name is Arthur Coldwells. In this week's first segment, Senior Editor Nic de Sena rides the much anticipated Yamaha MT-10 SP. That's the model with the Ohlins semi-active suspension. It's only been available in Europe for the last couple of years, but finally the good news is, that it's coming to America. The big question is, whether the extra 3k you're going to have to pony up for the Ohlins is actually worth it, or perhaps there's just not that much improvement over the stock KYB suspension that has suited the Yamaha MT-10 so well until now? In the second segment, Associate Editor Teejay Adams chats with Val Collins. Val grew up on motorcycles and learned to love speed, however her real love is Formula 1 tunnel-boat racing. These are the guys and gals that are strapped into a tiny cockpit and then hurtle down the straights at 120 mile per hour and pull 5G in the corners. We attended the recent season finale in Lake Havasu and watched our friend Mike Quindazzi try to take the win. Val chats with Teejay about her love for two-wheels and tunnel-boats. Yeah, it's crazy stuff. From all of us here at Ultimate Motorcycling, we hope you enjoy this episode and have a great Thanksgiving Holiday! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Get Ohlins Suspension for your Harley Davidson! We installed the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kiton my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. After riding my Harley with the newly installed Ohlin's front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's front suspension and how to adjust things so you have the proper preload and proper rebound dampening. We also installed the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. I highly recommend these shocks and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's rear shocks and how to adjust things so you have the proper sag and proper rebound dampening. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I was not happy with the overall ride of my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, which came with the standard front suspension Harley has used for many years now on its touring models, which has no adjustments. Unfortunately, it is what it is. I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kit has! Upon ordering from the Law Abiding Biker Store, you'll get to choose an Ohlin's front suspension spring that will be adequate for your particular weight. I was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models. I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks have! GET OHLIN'S FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION IN THE LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE! WHY I CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Ohlin's rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store. However, I ride and corner my Harley hard and am constantly dragging floorboards and supports. By installing the 13" Ohlin's rear shocks, I raised my Street Glide Special 1" which gives me more lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I was absolutely blown away at how much smother my Harley rode and cornered after installing Ohlin's suspension! I did not realize what a difference good shocks would make! Wow, it was more than I even expected and I highly recommend upgrading your Harley shocks to Ohlin's! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently test rode and reviewed the new Harley-Davidson 2022 Street Glide ST. Harley shipped me the bike and let me have it for 30 days so I was able to really evaluate it. This bike was a dream to ride and overall performed very well. This bike comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci air/oil cooled V-Twin engine with a heavy breather, making around 106 horsepower and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. That was apparent when I got into the power band at around 3500 rpm. The bike has plenty of get up and go and you can easily pass and get around slower traffic. This bike was inspired by the King of the Baggers series and you should really check it out if you haven't. This ST sits an inch higher than a Harley Street Glide Special model, which makes it the same height as models such as the Ultra Limited. This provides for more lean angle on the ST model and I found that to be the case during my testing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Harley was able to shave 13 lbs off the Street Glide ST in comparison to a Street Glide Special model, making the ST weigh in at around 814 lbs in operating condition. Some of the weight savings are because the Harley Street Glide ST only comes with a solo seat and has no passenger pegs but you can add both after purchase. The saddlebags are also squared off and don't contour the mufflers like on the special models. Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #295: The Harley Street & Road Glide ST-Guests Paul James, Bjorn Shuster, and Eric Buckhouse of Harley-Davidson The Street Glide ST has a 19-inch front tire and 18-inch rear tire, 49 mm dual bending valve front forks, premium standard height (13 inch) hand-adjustable rear suspension, dual front and single disc rear brakes, 6 speed transmission, Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, and 6 gallon fuel tank. The ST gets 41 mpg in premium operating conditions. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley Street Glide ST is a great foundation if you are going to build it out as more of a hot rod. It was designed for weight, power, and performance and for it to be faster, more nimble, and have more lean angle. And, for the first time you get that CVO power train in a non-CVO bike The ST is really a blank canvas for performance parts and you could easily make the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci engine a 131 ci engine with a stage four kit. There are plenty of OEM Harley performance parts for the Street Glide ST to include Ohlins suspension. And as always, you'll get an honest review on this website and on our YouTube Channel. Yes, Harley loaned me the bike but in no way was I paid for this review and Harley has never told me what or what I cannot say or I simply would not do these reviews. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: A Real World Harley Street Glide ST Ride and Review Pros: I really liked the stock stereo system with the Boom Box GTS Infotainment System with two-way speakers and it was pretty loud and clear, even when traveling at freeway speeds with a full-face helmet. During the time we had the ST we did a Boss Audio Stereo/Amp Kit install on another bike and tested it against the stock Harley system. Of course, the Boss Audio system was much louder. I like that the Harley Street Glide ST sits an inch higher for that extra lean angle and I really liked the look of the differing front fender. I am 5'-08" tall and the bike fit me fine and I was flat footed when stopped with plenty of bend in my knees. The stock seat was pretty comfortable and has a nice curve up in the back, keeping you in the saddle when rolling the throttle and giving some lower back support. But, if I was long distance touring I'd replace the seat. The stock suspension performed very well, even when on a gravel road with potholes. Cons: The Boom Box Infotainment System does not come with a WHIM (Wireless Headset Interface Module) out of the factory. The WHIM allows you to have Bluetooth headset connectivity with the Boom Box while using a Harley branded Sena wireless headset. You need this to activate both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You can also use a Harley branded 7 pin wired headset instead. If you want any wireless headset functionality though, you'll have to add a WHIM during or after your purchase. I think that all Harley's with the Boom Box should come stock with the WHIM like the CVO models do. The Harley Street Glide ST comes with a LED headlight and taillight but the front and rear signals are still halogens. Lurch is 6'-4" tall and also test rode this bike. He reported that his shin was up against the heavy breather and that he'd have to change that out immediately with a lower profile air intake. He'd also move the floorboards forward, install an extended brake pedal, and install taller handlebars. Final Thoughts: Really, the question is whether you spend the extra $2,500 on the Harley Street Glide ST or save it by buying a Street Glide Special. I'd say that if you are really looking to have a hot rod of a bike, add many performance parts, and really push it in the corners then the ST should be your choice. If you're looking to do more relaxed riding, tour long distances, and maybe have a passenger, the Street Glide Special is all set up for that upon purchase with a passenger seat and pegs and is $2,500 less. But, it does have the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci engine with a few less horsepower and overall torque. It's still a great engine and has plenty of power for most. With that said, make no mistake about it, the Harley Street Glide ST would be awesome too for long distance touring if you set it up with a passenger seat and pegs. Overall, I can say that you will not be disappointed if you buy the Harley Street Glide ST and it was a dream to ride. Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! TESLA ANNOUNCES FREE HOLIDAY SUPERCHARGING - Tesla is making its Supercharging free for the holidays -- with some caveats. The move, which is intended to curb long wait times at the automaker's charging stations during this busy season, is limited to off-peak hours in select locations. - A map on Tesla's consumer website confirms that between Thursday, Dec. 23 and Sunday, Dec. 26, owners motoring along select travel routes in the US can receive free charging at specific stations between the hours of 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. (local time zone). - The majority of stations covered under this incentive are concentrated on the West Coast, primarily in California, where over 30 locations are free, as well as Arizona (10 locations) and Nevada (7 locations). Tesla CEO Elon Musk indicated the feature was in development in July 2020, but now it's here to (hopefully) make maneuvers like changing highway lanes a little bit safer. - Other practical improvements include an easier way to add multiple waypoints to a journey, and simplified controls for accessing a car's primary controls. It means the former now starts from £25,805 on-the-road including the grant, with the latter down to £29,365 including the grant. - Vauxhall's decision to reduce the price of its two electric cars means that even the expensive trim levels, namely the Corsa-e Elite and Mokka-e Ultimate, all fall under the £32,000 cap on the grant, so are eligible for the £1,500 discount. Within just three years, half of all vehicles built in Ingolstadt should be fully electric, and “from 2028, only electric cars will then roll off the production line in Ingolstadt,” an Audi spokesperson told Der Spiegel. - The first model to be produced in Ingolstadt will be the Q6 e-tron. The Audi spokesperson said the first pre-production units are already being built and series production is planned for 2023. The Q6 e-tron is based on the new PPE electric platform, on which Porsche will also introduce the electric Macan successor in parallel. Of the 13 plants that are planned, eight are joint ventures between automakers and battery manufacturers. Many of these new plants will be located in the Southeast or Midwest. | Manufacturer | Location | Expected Opening | General Motors & LG Chem | Lordstown, OH | 2022 | SK Innovation | Northeast of Atlanta, GA | 2022 | General Motors & LG Energy Solution | Spring Hill, TN | 2023 | SK Innovation | Northeast of Atlanta, GA | 2023 | Stellantis & LG Energy Solution | TBD | 2024 | Ford | Northeast of Memphis, TN | 2025 | Ford & SK Innovation | Central KY | 2025 | Stellantis & Samsung SDI | TBD | 2025 | Toyota | Southeast of Greensboro, NC | 2025 | Ford & SK Innovation | Central KY | 2026 | General Motors & LG Energy Solution | To be determined (TBD) | TBD | General Motors & LG Energy Solution | TBD | TBD | Volkswagen | Chattanooga, TN | TBD Original Source : https://www.energy.gov/eere/vehicles/articles/fotw-1217-december-20-2021-thirteen-new-electric-vehicle-battery-plants-are POLESTAR 3 ELECTRIC SUV: LOOK MA, NO HANDS (OR ACCIDENTS) Polestar 3 will go into production in late 2022 or early 2023 and the SUVs will be equipped to use an advanced lidar system from Luminar, a tech company making waves with its efforts to build the "uncrashable" car. - The long-range lidar system offers Level 3 hands-free driving on designated stretches of highway. The driver can take their hands off the wheel, feet off the pedals, and can also divert their eyes and attention elsewhere such as answering emails or watching a movie. Luminar developed its own hardware and software and created the Iris sensing platform for significantly less cost. - Its lidar can read the landscape from 1,148-1,640 feet away, depending on the size of the object, which is much further than the human eye can see or headlights can illuminate. That is a real strength because it gives the vehicle more time to react. - Luminar will provide lidar sensors to Volvo starting in late 2022. They will be used in the Volvo XC90 replacement, which could be called the Embla. The new 2022 flagship electric SUV will be on the next generation of Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture or SPA2, designed to handle the advanced driving capability. - Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said he will wait until 2025 to make the more advanced Level 3 hands-free system available in the Polestar 3. When the time comes, it will be activated via an over-the-air software update. In this episode I talk with Dave Moss, the founder of Dave Moss Tuning (DMT). Dave started racing motorcycles in the late 1990s at the age of 35. He built his own race bike and spent a lot of time digging into the nuances of bike setup and researching motorcycles, their behavior, their design and the physics behind them so that he could get the most out of his own bike on the track. A lot of other track day riders and racers started coming to Dave for advice on how to set up their own bikes. The help that Dave started offering at that time continued to evolve and develop over the last 24 years, and Dave now has a web site and YouTube channel with over 1000 items of content related to motorcycle suspension, motorcycle setup and riding technique that runs the gamut from podcasts, to videos to written articles. Dave has an intense passion for helping riders of all experience levels get the most out of their motorcycles and their motorcycle riding. He has found that often simple changes to the setup of a motorcycle can lead to huge gains in rider comfort, rider performance and rider safety. Dave has developed many tools and techniques to help tweak and adjust a motorcycle so that it fits the rider the way a well fitted suit or glove fits your body. His advice, to anyone who will listen, is to first focus your attention on the ergonomics of your motorcycle, and making sure it fits you properly, suits your riding style and handles properly, before you invest in other things like exhaust pipes, chrome and engine modifications.
