In collaboration with fellow scientists and teams across the organization, she plans and executes research studies, then implements and disseminates the findings for WeightWatchers members, the scientific community, and the greater community at large. She also leads the company's nutrition point of view using the latest in nutritional science, and works across the organization to translate the evidence in member content, programs, and beyond.Dr. Cardel is an obesity and nutrition scientist and registered dietitian with a focus on the development and implementation of evidence-based healthy lifestyle strategies for adults and children, particularly those from medically-underserved backgrounds.Before joining the WeightWatchers Science team in 2021, Dr. Cardel was an assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She was also the founder and director of the University of Florida Obesity Research Alliance, and an associate director for the Center for Integrative Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases. Dr. Cardel holds a PhD in nutrition sciences and a master's degree in clinical nutrition from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Florida State University. She also holds specialized training in motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, implementation science, and is a dedicated advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion.Throughout her career, Dr. Cardel has authored over 120 scientific publications and received numerous honors including the Excellence in Emerging Outcomes Research award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Superior Accomplishment Award for Diversity & Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of Florida Health Sciences Center, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Outstanding Woman Award and Outstanding Young Alumni Award. She was also awarded Fellow Status for The Obesity Society, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of obesity. Dr. Cardel is a skilled proponent of science communication and has conducted dozens of media interviews, including a recurring segment on nutrition for Channel 9 News in Denver. In Part One of our conversation, Dr. Tim Kanold and I discuss the power of smart brevity, the concept that brevity in communication is confidence and that length communicates fear and avoidance. He discusses some of the essential elements for communicating effectively and efficiently using Smart Brevity—the concept borne by Jim Vandehei. Dr. Timothy D. Kanold is a mathematics educator and author of textbooks. He was the president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) from 2008 to 2009.[1]Dr. Kanold holds a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. In 2007, he retired from his position as Superintendent at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois,[2] where for 17 years, he served as Director of Mathematics and Science.With Ron Larson, Dr. Kanold is co-author of 27 mathematics textbooks grades 6-12, written for Houghton Mifflin/McDougal Littell Publishing Company from 1988 to the present. Additionally, since 2001 he has authored and co-authored 18 books on K-12 mathematics and school leadership, published with Solution Tree Press.[3] He continues to write and present for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics on the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, as well as for AASA and NASSP. He is the lead author for NCTM's update of the Teaching Performance Standards Document, and has presented more than 600 talks and seminars nationally and internationally over the past decade, with the primary focus on the creation of equitable learning experiences for all children in mathematics.Dr. Kanold is the 1986 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching,[4] the 1991 recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Illinois State University, the 1994 recipient of the Outstanding School Administrator Award from the Illinois State Board of Education, and the 2001 recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award from Addison Trail High School. He also is the developer and presenter for New Dimensions in Leadership: Leading in a Learning Organization, a training program for future school administrators. Considered to be a “Teacher of Leaders,” he currently provides training in mathematics program improvement, professional learning community development, and school leadership on behalf of Solution Tree.[5] He also presents mathematics curriculum, instruction, and assessment workshops for NCTM and NCSM.Dr. Kanold's daughter, Jessica McIntyre, taught mathematics at Aptakisic Junior High School, in Buffalo Grove, IL then served as the Principal from 2011–2016.

Her unique point of view brings together the past and the present, encompasses culture and nature, art and science. Yan is a recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the 2014 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Project Grants from the Canadian Council for the Arts, the Chalmers Arts Fellowship, Mid-career Grants from Ontario Arts Council, and many more. By 1986 he and his wife, a veterinary school classmate, owned 3 clinics at the age of 27,necessitating a learning odyssey that continues to this day. He studied practice management continuously and was involved with veterinary politics at every level, serving on many committees. He chaired Veterinary Economics Committees for 12 years, overseeing extensive economic surveys of the profession and implementation of fee guides. He has worked with most of the multinational pharmaceutical companies either as a key opinion leader or as a small contractor. He has lectured to veterinary students all over the world and coached over 100 hours in the veterinary student communication labs. Twenty-five years of clinical practice culminated in the formation of a 12 hospital partnership and the directorship of an ultramodern 15,000 square foot hospital in Nova Scotia. He started one of the first emergency clinics in Canada and was chairman of the board for 7 years. Steve has worked with dozens of clients as a management consultant involving on-going dialogue with veterinarians about their concerns and issues. In 2008 Noonan ‘burned out'. Suffering from a severe physical and mental breakdown, he left active practice. He sought strategies and tools to heal himself permanently and immersed himself in their study. He studied stress management extensively through Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses,completing 2 x 8 week courses and attending multiple workshops with other medical professionals in the US. Heis a certified life and executive coach with the prestigious Coaches TrainingInstitute (www.thecoaches.com ) , a process that took18 months. He is an avid student of positive psychology, a branch of the science that studies methodologies to improve the human condition and help people flourish. He has taken online courses at Berkeley and knows about the evidence behind the science of positivity and happiness and how this can be used to help the veterinary profession cope with the stresses that threaten our members. He is an experienced communicator with expertise in media interviews, radio, television and speaking to veterinarians as a management consultant. He is a passionate and engaging speaker who has a mission to help prevent others going through what he has and build resilience in other veterinarians to help combat the challenges of daily professional practice. She completed both her DVM (2011) and PhD (2015) in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences at Oklahoma State University where her graduate research focused on several vector-borne infections of dogs. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiology, Parasitology sub-specialty, completing her residency training through the National Center for Veterinary Parasitology at Oklahoma State University in 2015. Dr. Starkey joined the faculty at Auburn University in May 2016 where she is involved in various research projects involving vector-borne and food-borne infections, diagnostic parasitology, and parasite consultation and outreach. Dr. Starkey also is heavily involved in the teaching of parasitology to first, second, and fourth-year veterinary students, and she has received two teaching awards while at Auburn, most recently being awarded the Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award in March 2020. Dr. Brian Herrin is an assistant professor at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He graduated from Oklahoma State University for both his DVM and PhD. His current research focus is on the control of ticks and fleas on companion animals. Some of his recent interests are on surveillance of ticks and tick-borne diseases of horses and the surveillance of Spotted Fever Group Rickettsia in the US. Although his research focus is on ticks, Dr. Herrin enjoys working with all parasites of veterinary importance through the diagnostic service and teaching/outreach opportunities. How do you turn your digital marketing into actual clients that come into your veterinary practice? That is the question that we're going to cover in today's episode with guest Dr. Andy Roark. Andy has done an incredible job of turning his digital community into an actual community of people who attended his conference Uncharted.  Today's episode is longer than an average episode but it is filled with some really great insight that will help you and your veterinary practice. Events are a great way to get people who just normally engage with you online to turn into clients who build a relationship with, and today's episode is packed with great tips on how to do just that.  For those of you stuck under a rock and who don't know Andy, he has some impressive accomplishments under his belt when it comes to digital marketing. Andy is a practicing veterinarian, international speaker, author, and media personality. Dr. Roark has been voted Practice Management Speaker of the Year at NAVC, one of the world's largest veterinary conferences, two out of the last three years. He also received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine. Practices where Dr. Roark works were named as finalists in the American Animal Hospital Association's Practice of the Year Contest in 2013 and 2015. He also has built his website to the point where it gets hundreds of thousands of page views, has grown his Facebook page to over 234,000 likes, and most recently, launch a successful conference and online community.  I was able to speak at his conference, UnchartedVet.com and I was blown away at the quality of the attendees, the amount of community he helped to foster and the level of high execution he and his team performed to make everything come together.
