Extremely lucky to be able to sit down with Paul and Luke Field this week for a chat! Paul Field might not wear a coloured skivvy, but he's one of the original brains behind the Wiggles - as their original and long serving manager. After his retirement Paul handed the reins of the The Wiggles machine to his son Luke who is still currently at the helm of the much loved children's band. In 1988, Paul's daughter and Luke's sister, Bernadette, died from SIDS. Luke was 2 at the time and still remembers that devastating time. Since this Paul and Luke have both been huge ambassadors for Red Nose and the work they do in SIDs prevention. Paul stands by the fact that The Wiggles likely wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Red Nose Day. The transition from a pub rock band to a kids band kicked off with a gig for Red Nose Day.Support Red Nose here: https://rednose.org.au/ COOLDAD MERCH IS LIVE! Why you should spend 5 minutes listening to Paul talk about aftershave, I hear you ask? Because Paul figured out that his aftershave choices are quite similar to his attitude choices... Curious what he means? All is explained in this 5 minute podcast!

Though each of them address very different present-day problems, their shared message is "You are not alone" There's lots more information on their respective websites : www.kintsugihope.com www.opendoorsuk.org This week, we feature music from Manchester Cathedral Choir, Paul Field and Martin John Nichols, and Graham Kendrick. There's also our notice board - and if you have any information to add to the notice board, or if you'd like to choose a hymn for inclusion in a future programme, please do email me - judithley@manxradio.com

The Wiggles are one of the most successful children's entertainment groups in history. Guiding them for 24 years was Paul Field, brother of founder and blue Wiggle, Anthony Field. What you may not know about Paul and Anthony is that prior to The Wiggles they were pop stars in Australia with the band The Cockroaches, alongside their brother John as well as future purple Wiggle, Jeff Fatt. Last year Paul retired from managing The Wiggles and he's just released his first ever solo album called Love Songs For Lonely People. Featuring guests such as Jimmy Barnes and Australian country musician Kasey Chambers, it's a collection of originals and covers of songs Paul has always loved. We talk about that album in this interview, as well as Paul's days in The Cockroaches playing alongside bands like INXS, and how those experiences helped inform the way The Wiggles operated as they climbed to global stardom.

Whereas our western 'wealth' affords us at least some certainty in difficult times, a combination of the pandemic and the effects of climate change have widened the gap between us, and our poorest global neighbours. This year's Christian Aid project will help young unemployed people in Burundi - still one of the world's most poverty-stricken countries, with over 70% of the population who have no work at all, and as she launches the NO SMALL CHANGE appeal, Christian Aid's local representative Louise Whitelegg wonders if she's a lover? Or a fighter? This year's project will be life changing for young people in Burundi. Using local Christian Aid partners, they'll be helped to set up agricultural businesses suitable for the changing climate in their country and taught about marketing and finance, so they can save money, and also set up loan groups to improve life in their villages. If you want to be part of creating a more just world, Louise Whitelegg - our Island representative - is your best contact - you'll find her on Facebook - and she's always happy to get your text or a call on 07624 474275 There'll be lots of events to support Christian Aid over the coming months - look out for local publicity and do please join in if you possibly can. To find out more about the work of Christian Aid, look at their website: https://www.christianaid.org.uk And we ask the question ….. what would make someone give up a high profile, well-paid, influential job ? Was it because all those seeming benefits just weren't enough …..? An interview with Loretta Minghella, recorded some ten years ago when she visited the Island in her capacity as Director of Christian Aid, holds the answers. Also on today's programme, Phil Craine reads from a new book published to mark Christian Aid's 75th anniversary - it's called Rage & Hope: 75 Prayers for a Better World and is out now and available here: https://spckpublishing.co.uk/rage-and-hope And there's music too - including Paul Field and Martin John Nicolls who have written a number of songs inspired by the issues which Christian Aid confronts time and again. `Paul Field is the Managing Director of international children’s entertainment mega-brand The Wiggles. He’s also an ambassador for Red Nose Day, which funds research and support around the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS.Nine babies and children in Australia will die today as a result of SIDS, but that number is down 85% of what it once was due largely to the incredible research and awareness that Red Nose Day raises money to support. After listening to this, I’m sure you’ll want to throw some help their way - you can donate year-round RedNoseDay.com.auPaul Field is now the MD of The Wiggles but as you’ll hear he was once the front man for incredibly successful Aussie pub rock band The Cockroaches - along with his brother Anthony, and a sleepy keyboard player named Jeff. However, as you’ll hear, The Cockroaches eventually wound down and The Wiggles wound up, all while Paul dealt with an incredible tragedy in his life - the sudden death of his infant daughter Bernadette when she was just 8 months old. This is a heavy tale, and if you or anyone you know has been through something similar this podcast might bring up some intense emotions for you - perhaps there’s some unprocessed grief still lingering - we talk about that a lot - if so please reach out for help if you need it or if you’re in Australia call Lifeline on 13 11 14.I can’t thank Paul enough for coming around and sharing his story so authentically- and I hope you resonate with his message about how he loves his life now even after going through such incredible loss and grief.I’m grateful you’re here and grateful that together we can have this conversation with Paul Field. We're back for a bit. No biggie. Just Steve Norman, Owen Hughes and Paul Field, hanging around recording a random triple bill podcast trying to ride the crest of interest that usually comes during the Oscars season.Resurrected from the near dead, the Failed Critics revive an old quiz - not an old quiz format, literally they replay an old quiz - and chat about what they've been watching lately. Paul revels in riotous horror Freehold, Owen revisits 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Steve rubbishes a bunch of Netflix Originals. In the triple bill section, there's chaos, confusion and regular shambolic behaviour as each critic picks a movie that missed that all important award nod from the Academy throughout history.Don't get too excited; this doesn't actually signal a return to a weekly format for FC.
