With apologies for an unplanned hiatus, during which Gary traveled to Florida to attend the International Conference on the Fantastic, we're back with a discussion that touches upon awards (again, but briefly), SF writers who are also good nonfiction writers, books whose 25th anniversary is this year (including Perdido Street Station), tribute anthologies such as Jonathan's forthcoming Revolution in the Heart, and, of course, what we've been reading.
This week on The Treatment, Elvis speaks with actor and director Zach Braff about the 20th anniversary of the beloved soundtrack from his directorial debut Garden State. Braff talks about the forthcoming concert celebrating the music from the film — proceeds from which will go to Midnight Mission. Then, novelist China Miéville talks about a new limited edition of his breakthrough novel Perdido Street Station. And on The Treat, actress Cristin Milioti talks about the two singer-songwriters who are both "lightning rods for the truth."

Watch the video here. In conversation with Joel Nichols, Data Strategy & Evaluation Administrator, Strategic Initiatives Acclaimed for his ''unparalleled inventiveness'' (Chicago Tribune), China Miéville is the author of a score of fantasy novels, comics, novellas, short story collections, Marxist nonfiction, and essay collections. Associated with the ''New Weird'' writing movement, his books include This Census-Taker, Railsea, The City & The City, and Perdido Street Station. A contributor to The New York Times, The Guardian, Granta, and a founding editor of the quarterly Salvage, he has won the Hugo, World Fantasy, and Arthur C. Clarke awards. In October, Miéville plunges into the extraordinary 1917 political tumult that led to the creation of the world's first socialist state. (recorded 5/16/2017)

Mind Grapes: We get through our post-vacation blues by talking about some new stuff, re-reading some old stuff, and talking about reading very old stuff for the first time. Alli saw Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, the new Tina Fey vehicle about a war correspondent in Afghanistan. It was amazing. Jon has been re-reading an old favourite, Perdido Street Station by China Miéville, and talks about how it screws with the norms of Tolkienian fantasy. Sam decided her next comic project will be X-Men, and so she started with the original run back from 1963. NERD ALERT: We all went on the nerd boat. But first, we spent nerd time in Orlando, so we cover the Universal Parks and our incredible visit to Kennedy Space Center. The nerd boat meant different things to all of us, and so we talk about the community, the events, and the boat experience.
In GBA 225 we get better acquainted with Frog. He talks about Daniel Barker's Birthday, glass aquariums, a love for natural history and the history of science, high and low culture and literature, the twitter-verse, the story of the family Tench and how he came to be writing a book about whaling. And he did all this whilst at the same time cooking a delicious meal for two.
