Here's the sitch: this episode, Filmshake's covering 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer...the movie, not the TV show, NIC! To kick things off, Nic reports on his punishment film, the 1993 Cory Haim comedy Just One of the Girls, where Haim dresses up like a cheerleader to evade his high school bullies. We then naturally segue into more cheerleading and back to some bloodsucking with Buffy. Listen, as Jordan chides Nic continually for talking about the TV show and not the movie, while Nic can't quite escape the looming spectre of Joss Whedon. Meanwhile, Jordan connects with Buffy and their shared interest in a certain celebrity heartthrob. Capping it off with their usual trivia battle, Nic seethes with a vampiric vengeance for his loss to the cryptkeeper last time. Can Jordan prevail against such diabolical rage? Especially having never seen two 80's sci-fi staples? Find out on Filmshake!

The Doppelgangaz and I first linked up when they were a five-man group known as Fab Nickel. Back in 2006, they’d sent me their project, Mark Our Words, which you can check on YouTube. I thought it sounded great and they were the next HipHopGame Demo of the Month. When EP and Matter Ov Fact formed The Doppelgangaz, I continued interviewing them about their projects, and even when I took a hiatus, which has happened a few times, I’d come back to discuss the latest Dopp project because of how much I enjoy their music. It’s been about a year and a half since we last spoke for their Dopp Hopp project. Today, we’re catching up before they head overseas to talk beats, as their fourth instrumental installment of Beats for Brothels dropped. The first thing you’ll hear in this podcast is Q-Unique’s “One Shot” instrumental, the lead single off his first solo project, Vengeance is Mine, released by Uncle Howie back in 2004. That was the first time I’d heard Q as a solo artist and while I was always a fan of his work with The Arsonists, this was a new way of hearing him. Over the years, Q has continued reinventing himself, from linking with Fieldy from Korn and recording and performing with Stilwell and Kings Bounty to going back to the boom-bap sound with The Brown Bag All-Stars with Blaq Coffee. Today is no different, as Q released The Mechanic with beats chosen by the one and only Vinnie Paz, as well as Medina Bridge, a rap/rock mash-up with Iron Myke. In this interview, we talk about Q’s career going back to his Nomaad days, how releasing old Arsonists music went, how Q stays motivated today, and much more. Make sure you hit the links to support Q’s music, subscribe to the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher, and read the books. My latest book, the Chopped Herring Interviews, also features Q, breaking down his Nomaad days and how that led to him joining The Arsonists. twitter.com/quniquemusic twitter.com/seven3zero instagram.com/mr_q_unique instagram.com/seven3zero Cop The Mechanic and other Q-Unique music: https://q-unique.bandcamp.com/ Cop The Chopped Herring Interviews: Volume One: www.amazon.com/Chopped-Herring-R…s-1/dp/172188632X Cop the other books: linktr.ee/seven3zero Subscribe on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/wegoi…d1205045550?mt=2
Anthony “Q-Unique” Quiles is the perfect guest to start off the podcast for 2019. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he's a member of New York's legendary breakdancing group the Rock Steady Crew and co-founder of the iconic underground hip-hop group the Arsonists. He's traveled the world as frontman for his own rock groups StillWell (with members of Korn and P.O.D) and now King's Bounty. And - no surprise for MAM listeners - he's a lifelong martial artist. From his hardscrabble background in south Brooklyn to hanging with hip-hop legends to appearing on stage across the globe, Q's is a true New York story. He takes us on a journey through his early days kickboxing with Brooklyn icons Louis Neglia and Jerry Fontanez; how martial arts values influenced his life as an artist; the lessons he learned as a martial arts parent, shepherding his own son through to black belt; returning to training in his 40s (and having to spar with Shihan Dunn); reflections on his life and relationships in the music industry; and his ongoing commitment to improvement, progress and black belt as a student of Jiu-Jitsu. Funny, deep, charismatic and memorable, this episode explores what it means to be an artist, a parent, a practitioner and a citizen of the world with someone whose creative vision is sharpened by his martial arts training. Q showcases the best part of a martial arts life. We sincerely hope you enjoy the conversation. We sat with Q-Unique for an in depth Interview about his lifelong musical journey from Hip-Hop to Rock , and back to Hip-Hop Again. From his early days with Rock-Steady crew to playing in a band with Fieldy from Korn, Q-Unique often has found himself in a situation he may not have expected, but he explains his approach to stepping up to the new roles he finds himself in. We joked in the podcast that he seemed like Forest Gump in the way that he often bumped into other musicians or situations and found himself right in the middle of something legendary. Q-Unique shows us what his life is like and how it is indeed, like a box of chocolates. Q-UNIQUE-https://www.q-unique.com/ IG-https://www.instagram.com/mr_q_unique/ TWITTER-https://twitter.com/quniquemusic THE ARSONISTS- https://www.q-unique.com/the-arsonists KINGS BOUNTY--https://www.q-unique.com/kings-bounty STILLWELL-https://www.q-unique.com/stillwell
I met up with Anthony "Q-Unique" Quiles at a coffee spot on 86th Street in the heart of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn to talk about a couple, two, three things. We talk how he was introduced and brought into the Hip-Hop subculture by "Crazy Legs" of the Legendary "Rock Steady Crew" to being a member of the underground classic group "The Arsonists". How he then went solo and put out several records under "Q-Unique" along with his metal and grunge background. He met "Fieldy" from "Korn", toured with them for several years and learned how a successful metal band works behind the scenes. He then joined a band group called "Stillwell" with members of Korn and P.O.D. then embarked onto his own group "Kings Bounty" with guitarist Mike Dijan. Very cool, laid back conversation with a super nice guy, all while drinking coffee with our pinkies out and eating avocado toast. Yes... we did. Enjoy.

BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 112! While Meeks and Doe are on Spring Break this week - they still somehow manage to figure out how to bring that raw. This week they accomplish that by bringing you a guest mix from the Brown Bag All Stars' own DeeJay Element! We interviewed Element a number of months ago, so it made perfect sense to have him get behind the wheels of steel - and boy did he deliver with a Brown Bag All Stars Takeover mix! Interview session - oh yeah, we got that too - how about Miami's own DYNAS?! That drops on Thursday, so check out this weeks mix, go back and listen to the DeeJay Element interview if you missed it and clear out room on your device for the Dynas interview that drops Thursday! The Q-Unique and Brown Bag All-Star connection was one forged at Fat Beats, one of the iconic hip-hop landmarks that has gone the way of dodo and dope mixtapes. On their collaborative album, Blaq Coffee, Q-Unique revisits his boom-bap roots as he gets incredibly personal and reflective. None of that would have been possible without the soundscapes crafted by Audible Doctor, DJ Element, and J57. In this interview, AD discusses the making of Blaq Coffee, the underground hip-hop business, his under-the-underground roots, preventing the burn-out, his production process, the possibility of a sequel, and more. http://twitter.com/audibledoctor http://twitter.com/seven3zero www.amazon.com/Words-1-Brian-Kayser/dp/1535126035

On this season changing early Autumn night we have: The Outlawz join us as a full group on the eve of 2Pac's tragic anniversary to talk about reuniting as a group with Hussein Fatal, EDI Mean and Young Noble. Their new album Perfect Timing drops March 2011 but this epic and edgy, 50 minute interview, takes the listener on a journey through the hardships and glory of one of hip hop's most consistent independent groups. Eager to break free from the shadow of their lost brother and establish their own identity, The Outlawz cover topics such as Death Row Records, the plagiarism of 2Pac's sound/image and even find time to add some credence to Keith Murray's claim of "squaring off with Pac in The House Of Blues". A true war story unfolds. Beastie Boys are the topic as the creator of such classic albums as Check Your Head and Ill Communication. Mario C, steps in live from his studio to unravel the untold story of the Beastie Boys' history. We cover individual track creation, with Mario even spontaneously recreating such beats as "Sure Shot" for us while we talk and exploring the studio tales from classic Beastie Boy albums. No true Beastie Boy fan can miss this rare insight. 7L & Esoteric pounce into the studio to talk about their upcoming Oct 12th album 1212. As well as divulging information regarding the numerous collaborations contained within the album, such as Alchemist, Evidence, Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz, the dope dynamic duo tackle many pertinent hip hop issues such as Raekwons recent Justin Beiber feature and Dr Dre's SUPERB Detox leaks. Q Unique is a noble knight. His new album "Between Heaven And Hell" is superb and it was our honour to welcome back onto the show to discuss the closure of Fat Beats Records NYC, his disgust at the dispensable nature of the hip hop industry, working with Necro and Ill Bill and heaps more, in a truly sensible and reaffirming 30 minute feature. Foreign Beggars are one of the UK's guiding torches when it comes to album releases, label management and live shows. Their success is seldom challenged by their competition, so it was a pleasure to talk Bukkakes, Dented Records and the future of the group with Metropolis, who remains as likeably modest as you'd expect. We talk possible collaborations with The Prodigy, Jay Electronica and MF Doom, even offering all listeners the chance to send their tracks for a possible Dented Records record deal. AND THAT'S NOT ALL! We launch over 4 hours of hand-passed, quality hip hop to renew the dying fans faith and reaffirm the diehard's affiliation with this untouchable culture we affectionately refer to as "hip hop". None of the other radio station's did that this week - because they can't. Enjoy!
