In this episode of Trending in Education, we dive into the exciting world of immersive learning with Josh Reibel, CEO of Dreamscape Learn. We explore how virtual reality and cinematic storytelling are revolutionizing education, particularly in STEM fields. Josh shares insights on Dreamscape Learn's innovative approach, which combines Hollywood-style narratives with rigorous academic content to create engaging, interactive learning experiences. We discuss the company's origins, its collaboration with Arizona State University, and the impressive results they've seen in student engagement and performance. Josh explains how their VR experiences work, from asynchronous biology labs to synchronous classroom sessions, and how they're addressing scalability challenges. Throughout the conversation, we touch on various topics including: The process of creating immersive learning content The impact of avatar-based interactions on student participation The potential applications of generative AI in their platform The importance of maintaining academic rigor while leveraging entertainment techniques Key takeaways from the episode include: Immersive learning experiences can significantly increase student engagement and success rates, particularly in challenging STEM courses. The combination of Hollywood storytelling techniques and academic content creates a powerful tool for capturing and maintaining student attention. While creating high-quality immersive content is complex, there's growing potential for educators to develop their own experiences using accessible tools. We conclude with Josh's insights on innovation in education technology and his vision for the future of learning spaces as "departure hubs" rather than isolated classrooms. Episode 52 of the How We Do Digital Ministry podcast features Dr. Karen-Marie Yust and Dr. Erin Reibel from Real Kids Real Faith. Karen-Marie, Erin, and Charlotte Elia discuss nurturing children's spirituality online, growing in faith through questions rather than dogma, and seizing this opportunity for innovation. "The combination of the diminishing Sunday school and the reliance on online resources means that children's ministry needs to move toward providing those more direct resources to families, even if families are still intersecting with the church. Because on a Tuesday afternoon, when a parent is thinking, 'My child is asking this question and I don't know how to explore this issue with them,' they're not going to wait until the next Sunday they're in church to ask their pastor about that. They're going to Google it." - Dr. Karen-Marie Yust "Your traditional Sunday school lesson is about putting information into a child, and what we are opting to do instead is to open up an avenue for them to explore their own spirituality." - Dr. Erin Reibel Listen to the full episode as Karen-Marie and Erin talk about these topics: Growing Spiritually Through Exploring Questions [2:55] Changing Landscape of Children's Ministry [6:12] The Innovation Hub [9:53] Children's Ministry in the Digital Space [13:39] A Word to Congregations [18:26] You can find Real Kids Real Faith online here: https://www.realkidsrealfaith.org How We Do Digital Ministry is brought to you by Faith Growth, a small business dedicated to helping churches do digital ministry through coaching, consulting and website development. Listen. Learn. Love thyself. Never fear your future again. Welcome to the show today ladies. Thanks for tuneing in. I have a great interview for you today. And it was quite a pleasant surprise for me. On today's show, I brought on a ...Former actor now turned Hollywood casting director for reality TV shows that are plastered all over the tv set... She grew up in Chicago and always wanted to work in the entertainment industry. She moved out to Los Angeles when she was 19 to pursue acting and then made a career of it. She landed roles on Two and a half men, 90210, and Monk just to name a few. After pursing that for a while she started to take an interest in casting and started helping out friends on low budget jobs and working for free until she got her first paying casting job as an associate for a development job at with a company called Relativity. From there she never stopped working. When asking her to be on the show, I knew I was taking the risk of being too inside and was afraid that this podcast would gear more towards my TV/Film listeners... But I must tell you, the words from Stephanie about never giving up, believing in yourself and owning it...ring true for all of us as women. I was so pleasantly surprise on how inspiring Stephanie was to me.... She has a history of working her ass off to get what she wants and how she wants it AND she is only skyrocketing higher and higher in her career today. And did I mention that she is doing all this with a 2 year old a boy and another one on the way.... We talked about: Never giving up on your dreams. Don't take your job too seriously. How to get your child into acting. How to get Your story on a reality TV show. If you haven’t already, check out this podcast episode where we dissect Stephanie's story to give you compassionate advice and actionable tips on how to never give up AND oh so much more!
