The season is on the line this week and we needed to bring in a ringer. No, he has never played tackle football at the high school level or beyond, but he is an MBA Candidate. Come listen as Danny Felton takes our jumbled podcast and turns it into the menacing Cohort of the Correct Takes on Notre Dame Football. We address everything from how design thinking can be applied to college football programs to the gut-brain connection to a SWOT analysis of the Louisville Cardinals.   In all honesty this was a great episode of shooting the breeze and trying to figure out how to fix this season. Thank you Danny (Kellogg '25 (anticipated)) for joining the show.

Dave tells everything about no longer lying to himself in the mirror. He talks about breaking his scale and realizing that he weighed well over 400 pounds. How he set his sights on achieving big dreams and the fact that he is in act 1 of his 3 part hero's journey. We chatted about the fact that you'll never feel “ready” if you're waiting for your nerves to go away. You just have to face your fears head on because they're the only thing standing in your way.Documenting The Process For AccountabilityDave has an incredible story of his journey on social media. Dave tried many times to lose weight before, but the main thing that made a difference this time?Documenting the process on social media. That was the difference between this weight loss journey and all the others before. We talked about the mixed reputation social media has and some of the pros and cons. How to be authentic, how to create in a way true to you and the message you want to share. Such a wild thing to hear how unexpected it was for him to become a social media influencer.Tips For Your Own Weight Loss JourneyDon't over analyze the plan, mostly take action. Do things that make it more sustainable.Eat less bad foods and more healthy foods.Create some elements of accountability. If not social media, how do you keep yourself accountable?Make sure supportive people know what you're up to and how to hold you accountable.Keep it lighthearted and fun as much as possible because it's going to be serious in many other ways. The best exercises are ones that you'll enjoy doing as much as possible.Choose a gym and times that you are comfortable with.  Do what works for you that you can stick to.Creating Content In The GymDave shared how he decided to start filming and posting his workouts. He talks about how scary it was at first. It did not come naturally at all. It was like a whole year before he started to feel comfortable with using his camera in the gym. Now that he's done it a bunch of times he is much better and more comfortable.Maybe a few people look, but really no one is paying attention to you.Now he creates multiple pieces of content on his phone over the course of about three minutes during his workouts. The main thing to keep in mind is being respectful and ethical toward everyone else in the gym.Don't do any filming or pictures in the locker room. And don't get anyone in the backgrounds of your videos. And remember that most people want to support you, so don't give energy to the negative reactions, or comments.Memorable Quotes“Try things. Whether it's different diets, different exercises, different types of content creation, different platforms, different careers, different things in academia and education, different parts of the world to live in, just try more things”"Man, now I'm gonna be the fat guy filming himself in planet fitness.”“I don't really know what to do except I don't wanna get on the bad side of Joey Swoll in the gym. Haha.”Guest Bio“Life is good, Dave is fat. Aspiring supermodel. 30. Accountant.

Happy Memorial Day! This week's podcast kicks off with some discussion of latest wait list movements and anticipation of more activity over the next couple of weeks. Graham then discussed the Application Overview Workshops that have now concluded and previewed Clear Admit's July webinar series, which will be focused on each MBA program's essays. Graham also noted a special webinar event on June 8, focused on entering the management consulting field (signups are here: https://bit.ly/caconsultingjune). Graham then highlighted two 'Real Humans Alumni' pieces; a Cornell / Johnson graduate working as a Technical Account Manager for Google and a Columbia MSFE graduate working as a Software Engineer (also at Google).  Finally, your hosts discussed the news of the new dean at Michigan / Ross. For the WireTaps portion of the show, Alex selected three ApplyWire entries to review: First up, is a candidate with outstanding numbers (3.9/740) who appears to have done well at work. Alex and Graham had some thoughts regarding their goals, and would like to know more about their activities outside of work. With that said, all the information on hand does look promising. The second candidate this week has an “unconventional" career trajectory and will need to expand on the “whys” behind those career decisions. Their numbers will raise concerns at the very best MBA programs, so they need to attend to that. Graham and Alex also wanted to know more about their goals in green tech. This week's final candidate has a 730 GMAT, and despite that high score, we debate whether it's worth a retake. For some candidates, this may well be the case. Their GPA is 'modest', and while it appears they have done well at work, their work experience is going to be a little 'over-represented'. We also have questions about their 'consulting in non-profit' goals. This episode was recorded in Cornwall, England and Paris, France. It was produced in 'always sunny' Philadelphia by Dennis Crowley.

Chapter 4: Choose Your Framework - The Equity Imperative w/ Ale Trevino and Deshawn Adams Insight: There are many frameworks for pursuing organizational culture and diversity, and each has different objectives. Action: Choose your framework and know why. The conversation I'm sharing with you today is with my friends Deshawn Adams and Ale Trevino. Deshawn is a human capital consultant for Deloitte and he and I connected many years ago through a racial justice education program we were co-leading at our church. And Ale is an MBA Candidate at Kellogg School of Management, but prior to being a grad student was also at Deloitte working as a consultant and strategist. I got to know Ale through an organization we both love called Plywood People. I had Deshawn and Ale on the podcast because last year, they were on the team at Deloitte that created a report called The Equity Imperative. This report, which is linked in the show notes, is full of world-class research and business insights for leaders who want to do more than talk a good game about DEI. I was so grateful to be able to talk Ale and Deshawn about the equity imperative and about what racial equity requires of us in this day and age. Quick note, while Deshawn and Ale created this report at Deloitte, the opinions they express in our conversation belong to Deshawn and Ale alone, and do not reflect an official perspective of Deloitte as a company. I would have to say when I was in college, I had this crazy idea to raise enough money to send my Dad over to Europe and pick up my sister where she was serving a Christian mission. He had served himself in England and always wanted to go back, but my Dad being my Dad always put other people first and did not have the finances to let himself go visit again. I took on the goal to raise enough money from friends and family to send him over there. After a few months of trying, I almost gave up, but I had this point where I said to myself, "I do not care if I have to sell my car, blood, sweat, tears, guitars, whatever, I will get him to Europe no matter what" After I made that solid commitment, the money was found, I succeeded in my goal, and I cried with my Dad as I gave him the tickets and itinerary to have him go tour Europe, England, and pick up my sister. That experience alone showed me that if I am committed, work my rear off, and believe when all others say that it isn't possible, I can make it happen. I use that in every area of life even now. Imagine you woke up tomorrow and you had to start all over what would you do differently? Relax more and enjoy the ride and allow myself to create some fun stuff just like now!
