Today could be a monumental day in the saga of Harry and Meghan. With Trump and Harry reportedly far from friends, there's speculation that a future President Trump could, in theory, give the Duke of Montecito a one-way ticket out of the U.S. Royal watcher Hugo Vickers weighed in, saying, “I wouldn't be at all surprised if Trump suddenly said, ‘Right, I'm sending Prince Harry out of this country.'” Other royal experts think the Sussexes new Portugal pad is just a vacation spot. Richard Fitzwilliams was quick to point out that Harry and Meghan probably aren't looking to replace their California home base anytime soon. Fitzwilliams also didn't hold back on calling Harry's drug-use revelations in *Spare* “extremely foolish.” As for Trump actually making a scene by ejecting Harry, Fitzwilliams doubts it, saying it's unlikely he'd want to risk a public fiasco with the royal family.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! So many layers today...Hours before he was due to appear at the 10th anniversary service of thanksgiving at St Paul's, Harry was spotted leaving an event. Harry waved and said "hello" to onlookers. Holding a black folder under his arm, Harry was asked if he was "happy to be home", to which he simply chuckled and dodged the question by saying: "Nice to see you."We'll take that as no.Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths She claimed Harry made "certain demands" about who could be in the room for a meeting with the King, and who couldn't.  One wonders if the couldn't includes Camilla, the wicked stepmother.Royal expert Rupert Bell suggested to TalkTV "Maybe the King just feels like he's not ready, emotionally, as well as anything else, to have even 30 minutes with his son."Thirty minutes isn't really enough time to get beyond the small talk stage. What they really needs is some honest-to-goodness father and son time."On Wednesday, Prince Harry made a poignant entrance into St. Paul's Cathedral, adorned with four medals proudly displayed on his blazer, accompanied by another around his neck. His attire spoke volumes about his dedicated service and commitment to various causes. The medals adorning his blazer included the Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal, each symbolizing different milestones and achievements in his service to the nation.Around his neck, he wore a star, a distinguished emblem signifying his status as the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO), further highlighting his esteemed position within the royal hierarchy. However, amidst the solemnity of the occasion, Prince Harry appeared to stand alone, without any other members of the royal family by his side. While he attended the Invictus Games service at St. Paul's Cathedral, his absence was notable at Buckingham Palace, where the King hosted the inaugural annual garden party, joined by other senior royals. As he entered St. Paul's Cathedral, Prince Harry greeted the crowd with a warm smile and a wave, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and resilience that defines the Invictus Games. His presence at the event, where he was slated to deliver a reading alongside actor Damian Lewis, served as a poignant reminder of his ongoing commitment to serving those who have sacrificed for their country.Harry received a warm welcome from the Dean, the Very Reverend Andrew Tremlett, as he was escorted to his seat beneath the cathedral's majestic dome.Taking his place beside his mentor, Mark Dyer, Prince Harry engaged in a brief exchange with his uncle, Earl Spencer.Acknowledging the stark realities of conflict and its aftermath, the Dean lamented, "We lament the pain, cost, and indignity of war and terror, and pray for a world where justice shall reign and where the nations will find their longed-for unity.""We recall, with admiration, the skill and determination of those who seek to repair, rehabilitate, and reclaim the lives of those living with serious illness or injury: changing and saving lives."..Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News "Mike Tindall, who is the husband of Zara, the King's niece, has been given a high position to do something about the Invictus Games."I think Harry is absolutely furious about this. It has been announced, but very quietly." The Royal Family presented a united front in support of King Charles at the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the summer season. His Majesty was joined by Queen Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester for the event.Charles, dressed in a distinguished grey suit paired with a light blue waistcoat, greeted the gathered crowds with a smile as he entered the garden alongside the Queen.Buckingham Palace announced Prince William and his father would be sharing a joint engagement in the upcoming week. William will be bestowed with the distinguished title of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.Prior to Prince Harry's decision to step back from royal responsibilities four years ago, it was widely speculated that he would assume this prestigious role, considering his deep connection with the regiment he had bravely served alongside during his time in Afghanistan until 2014.The timing of the announcement, however, raised eyebrows among royal observers. "Timing is everything," remarked one insider. Another insider noted that the King's choice to pass on this cherished role to his eldest son, coupled with the apparent lack of a meeting with Prince Harry, is likely to be interpreted as a deliberate messageRoyal Insider Deep Crown tells us, “"The timing of Prince William's appointment as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps is no accident."  And as for the King being busy, Deep Crown quipped,  remarks Deep Crown, a seasoned royal insider. "Even I could secure 15 minutes with the King this week, if His Majesty had wanted to make time for me."

As Kate-gate went nuclear on Tuesday, Kate - or at least someone with the same type hair and body shape, but facing away from photographers, was spotted in a car with Prince William.Royal commentator Richard Palmer observed on twitter: It's interesting too that the BBC and other broadcasters as well as newspaper websites have used this car shot when no major UK media organisation used one a few days ago.Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams commented that this "sudden appearance" was not the appropriate response to the controversy over the edited image released to commemorate Mother's Day. He remarked, "When journalists expressed a desire to 'see' Catherine, no one, as far as I understand, meant it in this manner. A sudden appearance, as she has just made, is a knee-jerk reaction lacking the dignity expected of royals.""This matter has also overshadowed Commonwealth Day. There should never have been a period of two and a half months where she appeared to disappear; we should have occasionally felt connected while she maintained her privacy.""William and Catherine are facing tremendous pressure, particularly difficult considering her recent illness. However, the error of editing the photograph, though highly embarrassing, is not a major catastrophe."In the latest version of the timeline, we're told Kate sent the photo to her team on Saturday. A plan was then put in place to release the photo on Sunday at 9am along with a message, Insiders told The Times Kate was 'thinking of her own children when editing the picture, hoping that they looked good for their own sakes'.Royal writer R.S. Locke tweeted; Sky News has also analyzed the metadata and reached a similar conclusion as the Telegraph with one exception. The Telegraph assumes that the photo was taken last Friday because that's the first date it was saved on Photoshop. Sky News states that the date is UNKNOWN.

With the death of Queen Elizabeth, one of the longest serving monarchs in world history, the commonwealth is adjusting to a new normal and a new face of the firm, Charles III.  “God Save the Queen” is back to “God Save the King”, there's a new face on postage stamps, a new face on the pound, and a slew of other changes big and small.  But above all,  Britain is grappling with their identity, and what the monarchy means for them today.  For some, this means that the time has finally come to do away with the outdated parliamentary monarchy system in favor of a proper modern republic. They argue that the British Royal Family is out of touch with ordinary Britons, and represent an unsavory colonial history that must be left behind. The slew of scandals plaguing the Royal family hurts the country's image internationally.  They argue the Royals represent the past, and Britain must move into the future. But others argue that the royals serve an important albeit limited function.  Beyond representing a rich and storied history, the Royal family is a unifying force amid political and cultural divisions. And without the royal family, the UK loses an important piece of their cultural identity at a time when Britains are struggling to define themselves.  The Royal family may have problems, but they're existence is necessary. Arguing for the motion is Polly Toynbee, columnist for The Guardian newspaper since 1998.Toynbee previously worked as social affairs editor for the BBC and also for The Independent newspaper.  Arguing against the motion is Richard Fitzwilliams, freelance royal commentator, film critic, and vocal monarchist.  He has covered the largest royal events of the last two decades for the BBC, Sky, CTV, CBC, and Al-Jazeera. Speaker Quotes  POLLY TOYNBEE: “ If they are the sovereign and we are the subjects, we are subject to the absurdity of this extraordinarily ordinary family, who had after all the highest education available ended up being so very little intellectually interested in anything, beyond the polo and corgis”. RICHARD FITZWILLIAMS: “There's nothing ephemeral about a reign such as the Queen, and there's nothing ephemeral about an institution that's lasted a millennia.”.   The host of the Munk Debates is Rudyard Griffiths - @rudyardg.   Tweet your comments about this episode to @munkdebate or comment on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/munkdebates/ To sign up for a weekly email reminder for this podcast, send an email to podcast@munkdebates.com.   To support civil and substantive debate on the big questions of the day, consider becoming a Munk Member at https://munkdebates.com/membership Members receive access to our 10+ year library of great debates in HD video, a free Munk Debates book, newsletter and ticketing privileges at our live events. This podcast is a project of the Munk Debates, a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to fostering civil and substantive public dialogue - https://munkdebates.com/   Senior Producer: Jacob Lewis Editor: Adam Karch

Introduction: to minute 3 We'll be off the next two weeks and back on December 4th. Chandra has been watching Dexter: New Blood and likes it. Royals: Minutes 3:00 to 23:15 Duchess Meghan did a talk with the New York Times book summit with Mellody Hobson and conducted by Andrew Ross Sorkin. Meghan was so prepared with facts and clear points. I play a segment from that where Meghan talks about the Mail on Sunday appealing the ruling in her favor. Jason Knauf gave Meghan's emails to the Daily Mail revealing that she wrote the letter to her father anticipating that he might leak it. She was just protecting herself and this was smart. He also released emails showing that she authorized him to give briefing points on her behalf to Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand for the biography Finding Freedom. This has nothing to do with the case, which is about the copyright of the letter to her father. Prince Harry did the re:Wired summit. He talked about misinformation online and creating change in social media platforms. He also called the term “Megxit” misogynist. He referenced the Bot Sentinel report we discussed. We talk about whether Twitter or Instagram is more toxic. Here's a link to the post I mentioned on Instagram which went mildly viral. This week we got another report from Bot Sentinel that showed all the royal reporters who interacted with the hate accounts. Angela Levin was the top one, as we talked about two weeks ago, and Richard Eden, Richard Fitzwilliams and Richard Palmer were the other main ones. Harry and Meghan attended the Salute to Freedom Gala where Harry gave out Intrepid Valor Awards. Meghan wore a red Carolina Hererra taffeta gown that we have mixed feelings about. Duchess Kate did one event this week after her vacation and her events with William at the climate change summit. She went to a photography exhibit at the Imperial War Museum. Chandra wonders why we haven't seen Kate in so long. I mention the ridiculous story about Biden allegedly farting in front of Camilla. According to reports Camilla has been talking about it to everyone. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra thinks that someone in Charles' office leaked that story, particularly after we heard that Camila was trying to have one of Charles' staffmembers fired. We sympathize with Biden because everyone gets gassy sometimes. Antivaxxers: Minutes 23:15 to 31 Aaron Rodgers is still not suspended by the NFL or the Packers despite lying about being vaccinated and catching covid. He initially defended himself and claimed a woke mob was after him and that he did his research by talking to Joe Rogan and taking horse dewormer. Then a source told People he was being crucified and that we should respect his choice for his body as an athlete. He finally did an interview where he half apologized and took full responsibility but doubled down on everything he said before. Matthew McConaughey also revealed that he's against mandating covid vaccines for children and seemed to suggest that his kids are not vaccinated. Then when he got called out for it he said he was misrepresented, that he's not against vaccines for children he's just against mandates for 5 to 11 year-olds and that his son Levi, 13, is vaccinated against covid. We hope he doesn't run for governor of Texas. Emilio Estevez got fired by the Mighty Ducks Disney series for not getting vaccinated and then issued a wordy statement saying he's not antivax and that he had long covid. He never said he got vaccinated though! General Hospital's Ingo Rademacher is so much worse. He's one of those “medical freedom” nutjobs. He got fired after 25 years on that show for refusing to get vaccinated. Chandra wonders what happened to Doutzen Kroes, the Dutch model who revealed she's antivax. I go on a tangent about being disappointed in Dakota Johnson for this interview. Comments of the Week: Minutes 31:00 to end My comment of the week is from Mia4s on the post about Paul Rudd being named the Sexiest Man Alive. Chandra's comment of the week is from Tiffany on the post about Ivy Getty's excessive wedding. Thanks for listening bitches!
