Genesis 37:23-24 Now his brothers had gone to graze their father's flocks near Shechem, 13 and Israel said to Joseph, “As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem. Come, I am going to send you to them.” “Very well,” he replied. 14 So he said to him, “Go and see if all is well with your brothers and with the flocks, and bring word back to me.” Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron. When Joseph arrived at Shechem, 15 a man found him wandering around in the fields and asked him, “What are you looking for?” 16 He replied, “I'm looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are grazing their flocks?” 17 “They have moved on from here,” the man answered. “I heard them say, ‘Let's go to Dothan.'” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. 18 But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. 19 “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. 20 “Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we'll see what comes of his dreams.” 21 When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. “Let's not take his life,” he said. 22 “Don't shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don't lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe he was wearing— 24 and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.   A difficulty may be an opportunity in seed form. Recognize the seed   Genesis 37:5-7 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”   Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.   Reframe the situation    Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.   Ripen this season    Proverbs 24:10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!   Reap with a song of joy    Psalm 126:5-6 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow,  will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.   Redemption is the story    Genesis 3:15 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring (seed) and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.   John 12:23-24 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.   1 Corinthians 15:20-22 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

In 2012, Woodleaf Farm was recognized with a Steward of Sustainable Agriculture Award at the 32nd Annual EcoFarm Conference.  Since then, Helen has developed an almost closed loop farming system using chopped hay from some fields to fertilize vegetable and fruit fields. Helen is passionate about minimizing or stopping use of even certified-organic pest control materials, relying on natural nutrient cycling and on natural biological control.  Her new book on these eco-organic methods entitled The Ecological Farm releases on June 22nd.  Resources: Website: http://woodleaffarm.org/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/AgrarianDreams/videos Helen's new book:  The Ecological Farm: A Minimalist No-Till, No-Spray, Selective-Weeding, Grow-Your-Own-Fertilizer System for Organic Agriculture       This podcast is sponsored by Small Farm University, THE go-to resource for gardeners, homesteaders, and farmers around the world. Hey Friend! What a fast week it was!  I was very blessed to spend part of the week in Utah with some great friends!  God has really surrounded me with the best Christian Women and I sometimes have to seriously hold back the tears when God reveals all that He is orchestrating.  I have learned to be patient and wait on Him as He leads each and every step.  I can only do what I am doing through Him and I truely give Him all the glory!!!!! This week I want to pass on another amazing garden tip that I learned a few weeks ago and tested it out! Did you know that you can ripen green and orange tomatoes within 2 days and you don't have to set them on a table or a window seal to ripen them?  I used to put mine in a single layer on a patio table this time of the year and then bring them into the garage at night in case it was going to freeze, but not anymore!  This is another game changer in addition to my freezing tomato tip and I can't believe how well it worked! We had frost here one night last week and because of our crazy schedule lately, I hadn't had time to pick all the tomatoes, but I thought that I better pick as many as I could before I left for Utah!  It is really late for our tomatoes because we werent able to even plant them until early June! I picked a few boxes of tomatoes and I froze all the ripe ones and had a full bag of unripened ones, so what I did was put my orange and green tomatoes in a paper grocery bag along with a few ripe tomatoes, I closed it tight, and I put it in the basement.  After 24 hours, about ½ of the tomatoes were ripe, and the green tomatoes were starting to change color, so I froze the ripened ones and I thought that maybe a few extra days would be ok for them to ripen, but I was wrong!  A few of larger tomatoes must have ripened and rotted very fast, so when I got home and picked up the bag, it totally bottomed out and my tomatoes splatted everywhere!  It was a great learning lesson that it probably only takes 2-3 days for the tomatoes to ripen in the paper bag and not to leave them any longer.  I only lost a few tomatoes because most of them were big roma tomatoes, so they are thicker, but it sure was a mess to clean up!  I guess it is better than having frozen tomatoes though!  Im just really excited to know this tip and I hope this will help you with your harvesting as well   Join our Facebook Group -> Simple Gardening, Homesteading & Holistic Home for Beginners Email -> claimingsimplicity@gmail.com Instagram -> https://www.instagram.com/claimingsimplicity/ Have a great week! In The Language of Flowers, he wrote, In Eastern lands they talk in flowers, And they tell in a garland their loves and cares: Each blossom that blooms in their garden bowers, On its leaves a mystic language bears. In The Flight of Time, he wrote, Roses bloom, and then they wither; Cheeks are bright, then fade and die; Shapes of light are wafted hither, Then, like visions, hurry by.   September 15, 1872  Birth of Frances Garnet Wolseley, 2nd Viscountess Wolseley, English gardening author, and teacher. Her Glynde College for Lady Gardeners in East Sussex was patronized by Gertrude Jekyll, Ellen Willmott, and William Robinson.  She wrote, It is with real sorrow that we see so many [survivors] of an era of not particularly good taste in the shape of iron benches. It is their undoubted durability which has preserved them, and we who try to rest upon them are the sufferers, not only for their unpleasing appearance but from the ill-chosen formation of the back…   September 15, 1937  Birth of Marjorie Harris, Canadian non-fiction writer, garden expert, and garden author. She was the host of The Urban Gardener radio show for CBS. In addition to countless articles and columns for various publications, she wrote more than a dozen books on gardening.  She wrote, The longer you garden, the better the eye gets, the more tuned to how colors vibrate in different ways and what they can do to each other. He wrote: The first trick is to trim some of the leaves covering the green fruit so that they're more exposed to the sun. This helps them warm up during the daytime. But the very best way of making sure that all the fruit on a vine turns ripe is to cut down on their competition. Step one is to pinch off all the side shoots... Be ruthless and remove them all, even if they seem to be producing a small set of flower buds… Step two is… trim the growing tips from all the remaining stems to stop the plant from getting any bigger. One gardener I know swears that severe pinching threatens the plant so much that it hurries to set its fruit (and seeds) much quicker.    Thanks for listening to The Daily Gardener. And remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

So here goes nothing!!!  It's our first "minisode". We found that our conversations with our guests are far too interesting, at least to us, and we couldn't fit any current events and other shiz that we hoped to get into. These "minisodes" will be shorter than our regular episodes and will be just the two of us. Most of the time. We think. We will be chit chatting about stuff that matters more today, reading some listener emails and discussing listener comments. Perhaps we may even go down a side road on our opinions on big world stuff and how we see it from our tiny Island. Hope you enjoy!

The other day my daughter was making Challah bread and I was in a rush. I wanted her to shorten its proofing time so we could be on time for dinner. She said, "No, it wants to be all it can be." She wasn't even freaking joking, she just gets life like that. This brief episode is dedicated to that bread. And to the thousand joys between the time you KNOW you have anchored to something and the time it takes to actually come into your reality. Thank you to the inestimable April Steffler for singing with me in the driveway the simple Strong winds song, today's intro and outro. I included the unedited longer version of the song because it's good joy medicine to let strong clear uplifting songs get snagged in your attention and allow them to carry you aloft.   For the price of a coffee you can give the gladgirls a big ol kiss each month.

Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Josie Josie is a mother of two boys from the northers rivers, Australia. She is a visionary goddess artist and the creator of clay priestess sculpture workshops. Josie is also a vocalist in a roots reggae band with her husband, called Lionheart Rebellion. In this episode of The Natural Birth Podcast we will hear about the birth of her two sons Jalahyn - which means rainbow in the indigenous dialect of the aboriginal people where he was born, and Kiama - which means great spirit in another dialect. The birth of Jalahyn had to be an induction due to pre-eclamsia, however Josie tried some effective natural techniques to ripen her body which helped her to arrive to the hospital already at 3cm which is amazing considering she was a first time mumma getting induced. For her second baby Kiama Josie chose a lay midwife to assist her at home and had her long sought after natural home birth. Curious about Josie? Learn more at josiedoolan.weebly.com

In this week's podcast, my guest Rachel Sizemore and I talk about what to do when you've done ALL the things but still aren't getting the results you want. Rachel Sizemore is a Women's Confidence coach who helps women get out of their heads and into their bodies, so they can get clear on what they want, and confident in their ability to bring it into their lives. She is also the host of the podcast Ripen, home to juicy convos designed to help women turn onto their desires and the truth of who they are. Listen in as we jam on: releasing the shoulds and embracing who we are, moving from bullying yourself to getting to where you want to be, the power of loving acceptance, quieting your inner mean girl and being easy on ourselves and having compassion on our journey, and how to overcome our hidden saboteurs.   She shares some powerful tools to move from not feeling good to empowered.
