Together, they reflect on the complexities of efficiency in food systems, the yearning for simplicity in a complicated world, and the values that guide their lives and work. Matt discusses the importance of pragmatism in environmental work, the need for tangible solutions on the ground and in policy, and the impact of commodity agriculture on communities and how to be more involved. They also explore the role of death in food systems, reflecting on their personal experiences with grief and gratitude. The conversation also touches on the cognitive dissonance surrounding food production and the need for businesses to be resilient and regenerative, ultimately advocating for a deeper connection to the land and the hands that tend it. Agriculture stands as one of the most pollutant practices known to man. In Canada alone, 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions come from crop and livestock production, excluding emissions from fossil fuels or fertilizer production. Not only that, but considering how we handle manure, transportation, chemical pesticides, and fertilizers, we are looking at a giant impact on the environment worldwide.     At the other side of that scale, we have Robby Sansom, Co-Founder & CEO of Force of Nature, a regeneratively sourced meat company in Austin, TX. Robby's journey intertwines deeply with the natural food community, having previously delved into similar practices during his tenure as CFO/COO at EPIC. His commitment to regenerative practices birthed Force of Nature, aiming to accelerate the creation of a global regenerative supply network.   Force of Nature operates on the principles of regenerative agriculture, facing head-on a market that, for decades, has been advertised as a great business opportunity without any regard for its environmental impact.   Considering the poisoning of soils and water streams by chemical agents so commonly used in agriculture and livestock production, alongside the needs and implications of each location and its natural species, Force of Nature looks to redefine its market while bringing nutrient-rich meats to consumers' tables.     In this week's episode, we'll explore Robby's and Force of Nature's story and question if producing more meat can be considered a solution in a century-old practice that's been slowly changing our planet.   Follow us on Instagram: @someonelikeyoupodcast.

We also explore the immense benefits regenerative meat can have on human health, including higher nutrient density and a more sustainable way of consuming animal protein. Its unique perspective will inspire and leave you feeling hopeful about the future. Even though regenerative farming is still less than 1% of our country's agricultural technique he explains that by adopting regenerative farming practices and incorporating regenerative meat into our diet is essential but also more achievable than we might think. What does the health of soil have to do with our health? How do we make choices that help heal the land if we're not farmers? And is "regenerative agriculture" just a trendy term or is there substance and merit to it? Robby Sansom is the co-founder and CEO of Force of Nature. Today he goes over key components of regenerative agriculture and the difference it makes for the health of the planet and those populating it. Robby discusses the five principles of soil health and contrasts them with how the soil is treated in the conventional agricultural model. He shares startling statistics: how 80% of our food has lost its nutritional value and how the United Nations has said there are only 60 years of food production left. He covers the implications of these numbers, and he explains how these make the regenerative agriculture movement more critical than ever. IN THIS EPISODE OF THE HUMAN UPGRADE™...… you'll learn why regenerative methods for taking care of soil and raising animals provide a solution that creates food sovereignty, improves human health, and helps reverse climate change. Previous episodes of this podcast featured regenerative farming and soil conservation topics. Dave Asprey keeps the conversation going because when you know what's happening and what companies are doing about this problem, you can be informed and take action to support regeneration efforts in your own way.Robby Sansom, co-founder and CEO of Force of Nature, joins the show to talk about the new developments igniting real change. His roots run deep in the natural food community, caring for soil and caring for animals. He spent much of the last decade studying regenerative agriculture at ranches all over the world. Through this education, he helped found the Austin, Texas-based regeneratively sourced meat company, Force of Nature. The company's building brand new global supply chains of grass-fed and regeneratively managed livestock. Force of Nature works in partnership with land stewards, ranchers and farmers committed to creating a positive return on the planet. There's an undeniable sense of urgency about the state of soil and its ability to provide enough food for a growing population. Over more than a hundred years of conventional farming and ranching depleted land and disrupted natural ecosystems. These harms (have and continue to) adversely affect animal and human health. Force of Nature focuses on repair and regeneration—in their own operations and by educating farmers and ranchers from homesteaders to big corporations. In spring 2022, Force of Nature hosted a What Good Shall I Do? event about learning and leading with regenerative intent. This educational forum hosted several dozen speakers from soil scientists to leaders in the regenerative movement to individual farmers and ranchers. By providing information, resources and tools, conventional farmers and ranchers can make the switch to regenerative methods. And farmers and ranchers who already use regenerative methods can improve and have even more impact. You can get involved, too! In this episode, Robby talks about the true cost of meat and gives tips on what to look for in your own local grocery and how you can support regenerative agriculture and ranching in a way that aligns with your own values. That means no tilling, no synthetic chemicals, no hormones or antibiotics, and beautiful, wide-open spaces. The result is what you expect. Disrupting the Big Food Industry We spent the last decade studying regenerative agriculture at ranches all over the world before we answered the community's call to launch Force of Nature. If you look at what's going on with social media and the internet as they try to censor conversations, we need consumers to break out of their mold and become independent thinkers to stop allowing themselves to perpetuate the myths and the lies that they have been fed for years and to look at what's really happening in the food industry. A value meal at Chic-fil-A is more expensive than buying regenerative protein and whole vegetables to make a meal together as a family." - Robby Sansom Healing with Regenerative Ranching "If my wife was still vegan today she would either be dead or in a wheelchair. We ditched the vegan diet and began to eat in an evolutionary consistent manner. Started by first generation farmers, Katie and Taylor's journey into ranching was based on a vision to positively impact large-scale agriculture through producing nourishing food that improves the lives of animals, enriches the health of consumers, and regenerates the land on which we depend. Like much of the world, this once-fertile region has been industrially farmed for the past 100 years. Through persistent tilling of soil, planting of monoculture row crops, and overgrazing, ROAM Ranch was not capable of producing food upon its purchase. Land in this condition is often deemed "unsalvageable" and in many circumstances further degenerates with rest- but we are going to prove otherwise. Force of Nature Meats partners with regenerative ranchers to bring you the best meat on the planet, for the planet.  With the intention to accelerate the creation of a global regenerative supply network. Never before has a company founded in the principles of regenerative agriculture curated a vast collection of land stewards, ranchers, and farmers who are committed to creating a positive return on the planet. Force of Nature now exists to give consumers the ability to vote for environmental regeneration by consuming meat that is actually good for the planet.

The term “regenerative agriculture” has become more commonly discussed in recent years, but like many new terms – and like many oft-repeated buzzwords in agriculture and food marketing – it may not be well understood by most people, or even well-defined in general. What does regenerative agriculture mean, and what role does regenerative farming play in the future of the meat industry? In this episode we talk with Robby Sansom, the co-founder of Force of Nature, a regeneratively-sourced meat company, and from Curt Covington, senior director of AgAmerica Lending. Feedstuffs editor Sarah Muirhead talked with Sansom and Covington during a recent Feedstuffs 365 livestream to explore what is being done by producers of all sizes to keep meat on consumers' plates, as well as what the structure of the future meat industry might look like. This episode is sponsored by United Animal Health, a leader in animal health and nutrition. Discourse around meat production and eating meat is fraught with judgments, misconceptions, and a disconnection to the natural world and ecosystem at large.  My time in Texas has brought me closer to the end cycle of an animal's life, and the courageous acts of butchery that conscious land stewards – such as today's guest, Robby Sansom – are committed to. I recently joined him during a harvest of a Bison which was mind-blowing.  Robby's regenerative farm, Force of Nature, was founded on the belief that one can and should enjoy meat without sacrificing their values. We all know the dark side of industrial farming and have been force-fed a lot of hype around the virtuous wonders of plant-based eating and agriculture. On the other hand, regenerative farming offers the truly revolutionary opportunity to collaborate with the natural world in a way that's actually beneficial for the planet.  Sink your teeth into this juicy episode where Robby and I carve out space for an alternative agricultural reality to the dysfunctional one that's eating this planet alive.    03:50 — The Harvest of a Bison  Nourishing life beyond its own Giving consumers a choice to be intentional with what they eat What it feels like being witness to an animal's death How the modern experience disconnects us from the natural world    23:16 — Conventional, Organic, and Regenerative Farming  The evolution of conventional farming  Combatting nature's food systems  Exploring the organic food movement and its shortcomings The environmental crisis caused by tilling soil  Soil loss and food insecurity – imagining what will happen if we don't move towards regenerative farming   46:54 — How Farmers Can Transition Into Regenerative Farming? How Force of Nature helps land stewards shift gears Variety of proteins and celebrating food diversity  Livestock setting versus regenerative farming animals How animals revitalize the soil Allowing domestic animals to express their wild tendencies  Engaging the consumer to vote with their meat purchases   1:26:20 — Debunking Myths About Meat  Framing a profitable narrative  The real carbon impact of beef Monocropping of plants Reconciling my relationship with meat  Meat production and wasting water  Why a synthetic, processed, plant-based meat disrupts the environment The soil and weather connection    More about this episode.
