The Schmucks roll into Memorial Day weekend with pure chaos energy—looped audio, busted controllers, and Nick proudly announcing Monster Java as their “sponsor.” Eric and Mike spiral into a full‑blown Metamucil appreciation segment, complete with poop testimonials, before the crew derails into viral videos, car‑maintenance disasters, and a wild (and very incorrect) rumor about Rufio from Hook. They fact‑check themselves in real time, roast each other relentlessly, and cap it off with gun‑range talk, suppressor nerding, and a George Carlin rant about how everything's a lie anyway. It's unfiltered, unhinged, and unmistakably Schmucks.

EP 679: Logan Chierotti Alright, let’s be real — most supplement companies are just slapping a label on a generic capsule and calling it a day. Logan Chierotti didn’t do that. The guy bootstrapped Physician’s Choice from nothing — literally from the ashes of a failed energy mint company and a basement mugshot removal hustle — into the number one probiotic brand in the world, pushing $300 million in annual sales. No VC money. No trust fund. Just relentless grinding, a willingness to look failure in the eye, and the smarts to go all-in on one thing when everyone else was trying to do everything. But here’s what really got me interested in Logan — it wasn’t just the business stuff. It was watching a guy who built something massive still show up for his kids. Still out there on the mountain with them. Still manufacturing adversity in a life that could easily get too comfortable. That’s the tension I think a lot of us deal with, and Logan’s as honest about the struggle as anyone I’ve talked to. We go deep on the entrepreneur journey — the early days of getting sued and losing everything, the hard pivot that changed everything, what it means to go all-in on one category, and why your work ethic might actually be your biggest enemy. We also get into the dad stuff — raising kids who aren’t entitled when you’ve worked hard to give them more than you had, and why nature and hard things might be the most important parenting tools we have. If you’re an entrepreneur, a parent, an outdoorsman, or all three — this one’s for you. Pull it up on the drive or the trail. This isn’t a plug just because they write a check — I use this thing every single day. Land ownership, public/private boundaries, terrain analysis, offline maps, trip planning — it’s the full suite. I built it, our whole team built it, and we built it because every watch on the market was at best “usable” for hunters. That wasn’t good enough. Bridger Watch is a full-feature smartwatch built for the hunting lifestyle — not just the hunt. It does your training metrics, mapping, texts, all of it — and it does it with an insane battery life that actually holds up in the backcountry. No compromise. No fluff. Just a tool built by hunters, for hunters. Check it out at bridgerwatch.com — use code TRO at checkout. 3 Key Takeaways 1. Going all-in on one thing is a competitive advantage, not a limitation. Logan turned a flatlining supplement company into the world’s number one probiotic brand by doing something counterintuitive: he cut products that were making money to go deeper on one category. Most entrepreneurs spread themselves thin chasing every opportunity. The real unlock is picking the thing you can be truly elite at and pouring everything into it. Saying no to money today to dominate tomorrow is one of the hardest and most important decisions a founder can make. 2. You don’t need to invent something new — you need to do something existing much better. Logan’s framework for picking a business or a category isn’t about creating blue oceans — it’s about finding something that’s clearly working (proven demand, clear leader) and identifying the one thing that can be improved. Metamucil is doing $400M in fiber and their product is outdated junk. That’s not a threat — that’s an invitation. The best businesses often aren’t revolutionary ideas; they’re relentless improvements on proven ones. 3. You have more time than you think — stop the rush and be present. Both Logan and Cody landed on the same insight from different angles: the frantic urgency that drives early entrepreneurs often costs them the things that matter most — time with their kids, their health, their relationships. Logan’s parting advice says it all: your brain will work until you’re 70, there’s always more time to make money, but you can’t get time back. Whether it’s slowing down on the hustle or getting out in the mountains with your kids — presence is the play.

Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 4-09-2026: Dr. Dawn shares a follow-up from an emailer in Switzerland providing seven functional medicine practitioner addresses near Zurich and Aargau, noting that Switzerland uses different terminology but is actually an "epicenter of functional medicine." Dr. Dawn calls for support of the bipartisan Break Up Big Medicine Act, modeled on Glass-Steagall, which would prohibit common ownership of medical providers with insurers, pharmacy benefit managers, or drug wholesalers. She explains how vertical integration by companies like UnitedHealth, CVS/Aetna, and Cigna allows them to game medical loss ratio requirements through self-dealing while driving up costs. A European clinical trial implanted 2mm x 2mm light sensors beneath the retinas of 38 people with advanced macular degeneration, with 80% gaining clinically meaningful improvement (two lines on the vision chart) after one year. The device bypasses damaged rods and cones, sending camera images from glasses directly to the optic nerve. Dr. Dawn explains that air temperature warnings are measured in shade, but direct sunlight can add 20°C to heat exposure. Heat stroke triggers gut permeability, releasing lipopolysaccharides that cause cytokine storms and organ failure. She advises fans over air conditioning when possible, shade, hydration, and loose natural-fabric clothing. An emailer asks if low-dose oral strontium supplementation has the same problem as pharmaceutical strontium. Dr. Dawn confirms it improves bone density scores without reducing fracture risk, and recommends telopeptide testing to monitor actual bone loss after discontinuing. An emailer's doctor wants to prescribe high-dose dexamethasone for low platelets. Dr. Dawn advises against rushing to steroids since platelets of 40 are adequate for clotting, recommending a hematology consultation and repeat testing with citrated blood. Dr. Dawn reviews fiber types: wheat dextrin (Benefiber) is fermentable but technically gluten-free; guar fiber (Sunfiber) ferments slowly and works for low-FODMAP diets; inulin feeds bifidobacteria and produces anti-inflammatory short-chain fatty acids; methylcellulose (Citrucel) is non-fermentable; and psyllium (Metamucil) is facing a class action lawsuit over undisclosed lead contamination. An emailer with varicose veins reports recurring superficial blood clots. Dr. Dawn explains these don't travel to lungs like deep vein clots, but repeated clotting suggests possible thrombophilia requiring workup. She recommends consulting a vascular surgeon about superficial venous ligation under local anesthesia. Analysis of 25,000 wearable users found that three daily "exercise snacks" of just 1-2 minutes of vigorous activity (stairs, running for a bus) reduced all-cause mortality by 38-40%. Benefits plateau around 7,500 steps daily, and simply standing up every couple of hours dramatically reduces sedentary risks.

The script explains why fiber is critical for gut and metabolic health, focusing on how soluble fiber is fermented in the colon to produce short-chain fatty acids (butyrate, propionate, acetate). It contrasts soluble fiber (forms a gel, lowers LDL by binding bile acids, slows glucose absorption, increases satiety, feeds the microbiome) with insoluble fiber (adds stool bulk, helps constipation). It highlights research showing 10 g/day psyllium husk (Metamucil) is linked to a 10% reduction in all-cause mortality and typically lowers LDL about 7–15%. Butyrate is emphasized as the primary fuel for colonocytes, supporting gut barrier integrity and potentially reducing colon cancer risk, while also affecting mitochondria, inflammation, and the brain. Propionate influences liver cholesterol production and satiety hormones, and acetate provides systemic energy. Practical supplementation "stacks," dosing ranges, food sources, GI side effects, and timing cautions (e.g., separating psyllium from minerals) are discussed.   Metamucil (psyllium husk fiber) — https://www.metamucil.com/   Psyllium husk (soluble fiber) — https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a601104.html Psyllium husk (PubMed search) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=psyllium+husk   Soluble fiber (overview) — https://medlineplus.gov/dietaryfiber.html Insoluble fiber (overview) — https://medlineplus.gov/dietaryfiber.html   Inulin (prebiotic fiber) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=inulin+prebiotic+fiber   Acacia fiber / Gum arabic (prebiotic fiber) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=acacia+fiber+gum+arabic+prebiotic   Beta-glucan (oats/barley soluble fiber) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=beta-glucan+oats+LDL   Pectin (soluble fiber) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=pectin+soluble+fiber   Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=partially+hydrolyzed+guar+gum   Resistant starch / Potato starch — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=resistant+starch+potato+starch   Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) — https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK557571/   Butyrate (SCFA) — https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=butyrate+short-chain+fatty+acid+colonocytes   LDL cholesterol (general) — https://medlineplus.gov/cholesterol.html   Magnesium (mineral supplement info) — https://medlineplus.gov/magnesium.html   Show Notes   00:00 Butyrate and Colon Health 00:49 Why Fiber Matters Now 02:28 How Fiber Is Digested 03:45 Soluble vs Insoluble Fiber 06:36 Gel Effect on Blood Sugar 07:36 How Soluble Fiber Lowers LDL 10:19 Short Chain Fatty Acids 101 11:32 Butyrate Deep Dive 16:40 Propionate and Liver Benefits 18:22 Acetate for Energy and Appetite 19:29 Best Fibers to Supplement 21:33 Dosing and Food Sources 24:44 Ideal Fiber Stack and Safety 28:37 Wrap Up and Next Steps   The Hart2Heart podcast is hosted by family physician Dr. Michael Hart, who is dedicated to cutting through the noise and uncovering the most effective strategies for optimizing health, longevity, and peak performance. From beef liver capsules to frankincense smoke bombs, from kinesiology to emergency osteopath appointments, this is what it ACTUALLY looks like behind the curtain of a successful launch.Leonie also gets beautifully honest about the inner growth that launching demands — the fear, the freeze, the false belief that everyone else has it together while you're in chaos. (Again) On the show this week we head back to 1985 when the Cola Wars took off for low orbit because Coke and Pepsi had money to burn. Along the way we learn that Dave never stood a chance at NASA. (They didn't make space suits in 5XL) Then we dive right into what the first astronauts ate in space. (Goo, they ate goo.) Then we head back down to the Earth where a Coca Cola executive had an idea that was out of this world, and how it turned into yet another vicious skirmish in the long running and increasingly bitter “cola wars”. We learn how Coke spent a quarter of a million dollars and Pepsi opened their medicine cabinet.  Finally we discover why sodas crashed and burned like a solid rocket booster in chilly weather.  (Too soon?). Our Sponsor this week is Tap Water, if you're thirsty get some.  We open the show with Coke in space and close with astronaut Chris Hadfield singing out sitting in a tin can. The doctors explore essential nutritional strategies, emphasizing the importance of magnesium, proper hydration, movement, and why choosing plant soluble fiber over common supplements like Metamucil (psyllium) is crucial for feeding your vital microbiome. They also discuss the temporary effects of stimulants like caffeine. Beyond diet and lifestyle, this episode highlights the critical, often-overlooked neurological connection to gut health. Learn how: Your nervous system is the master controller of your entire GI tract. The birth process can create misalignments impacting infant pelvic nerves and leading to early constipation. Digestion begins in the mouth, and issues like poor latch can affect the whole system. Introducing solids (especially bananas) before a baby gets their first tooth can disrupt the gut, contributing to leaky gut and future food sensitivities. Chronic GI conditions like Crohn's or IBS are NOT genetically predetermined (hereditary myth) but often stem from impaired neurological communication. Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie explain what constitutes a healthy bowel movement (and why it should feel good!) versus signs of dysfunction like hemorrhoids or pain. Discover practical tips like the corn/beet test for transit time and understand why addressing the neurological root cause through chiropractic care is key to resolving constipation for good. Trending Terms Explained: Constipation: Difficulty or infrequency in passing stools. Discussed as a widespread epidemic, not a normal state. Plant Soluble Fiber: Fiber from plant sources (vegetables, fruits) that feeds the microbiome, essential for gut health. Contrasted with psyllium husk (Metamucil). Microbiome: The community of bacteria in the GI tract influencing digestion, immunity, and brain function – your "second brain." Leaky Gut: Increased intestinal permeability, allowing particles into the bloodstream, potentially caused by introducing solids too early. Nervous System Control: The brain and nerves regulate all digestive processes; interference (subluxation) can cause constipation or diarrhea. Birth Process Trauma: Physical stress during birth potentially causing misalignments that affect nerves controlling infant bowel function. Hereditary (Myth): Debunking the idea that constipation or diseases like Crohn's are genetic, highlighting neurological response patterns instead. Key Takeaways: Constipation is common but NOT normal or hereditary. Aim for 1-2 comfortable bowel movements daily. Focus on hydration, movement, magnesium, and PLANT SOLUBLE fiber. Your nervous system dictates gut function – address the root cause. Birth trauma is a major factor in infant constipation. Wait for the first tooth before introducing solids to prevent leaky gut. Chiropractic care is vital for optimizing the nervous system control of the GI tract. CALL TO ACTION: Stop normalizing constipation! If you or your child are struggling, seek answers that address the root cause. A pediatric or family chiropractor focused on the nervous system can be a key part of your health team. If you're one of those people who thinks pooping every few days is "normal for you," we need to talk. In this episode of The Wellness Effect, we're diving deep into why constipation isn't just a gut issue—it's a whole-body problem that could be the root cause of your acne, irregular periods, bloating, and even anxiety. From the emotional component of "letting go" to the very real fact that you could be holding 30 pounds of waste in your colon, this conversation will change how you think about your daily (yes, daily!) bowel movements forever.   In this episode, you'll hear: What actually counts as constipation - and why needing Metamucil every night means you're constipated How constipation creates estrogen dominance, leading to fertility issues, painful periods, and stubborn weight Why your poop is the bottom of your drainage funnel - and what happens when that pathway gets backed up The connection between your pelvic floor, emotional trauma, and your ability to have a good bowel movement Why your morning routine might be sabotaging your digestive system before you even start the day The real deal on fiber intake How chronic stress and mineral depletion are literally backing you up from the inside out   Key Takeaways: You should be pooping 1-3 times every single day - anything less means those toxins and excess hormones are recirculating through your body Your gut can hold up to 30 pounds of waste, creating bacterial overgrowth that shows up as bloating, mood issues, and digestive problems Constipation isn't a laxative deficiency - if you've been taking the same supplement for years to poop, you need to dig deeper into the root cause   You might want to check out: Meal Hygiene 101: How Mindful Eating Can Transform Your Digestion and Health   Drainage Pathways 101: How to Support Detox, & Eliminate Toxins Naturally   Want more from us? With Dion away, Christian and Josh settle in for a two-hander that begins with Christian’s recent holiday — and the logistical challenge of who would feed the cats. Christian reveals he enlisted six different friends (including Josh) and provided an extensive PDF detailing every aspect of Moe and Gus’s care. We unpack the line between thoughtful preparation and over-engineering. Is it helpful or excessive to include things like backstories, indexes, and optional enrichment activities? Should you instruct friends to “play with the cats”? And why do pets seem to get more detailed care notes than actual children? We also explore how people interpret instructions differently and what makes a favour feel like a burden versus a shared act of community. Is it overkill to create a video walkthrough of how to reach your lockbox? Or is it actually a kindness? Later, we shift into kitchen territory to tackle one surprisingly divisive question: should you stir your drinks with a fork or a spoon? Christian swears by the fork for Metamucil, Josh agrees (in this one case), and the debate expands. Does the utensil depend on the drink? Should we be rinsing and reusing, or are we just transferring wet teaspoons into dry coffee jars? Along the way, we challenge the usefulness of whisks, praise the versatility of silicon spatulas, and call for an overhaul of salad tongs — especially when time spent tonging for capsicum might be socially judged. Also in this patch: talcum powder confusion, Pyrex nostalgia, and a cat who may now have a job. Hour 1 Boomer is back today. He was at a speaking engagement in Columbus, Ohio. His bag was checked by the TSA because of his container of Metamucil. Daniel Jones is going to get benched as we all know. The question now is where do they find the next guy and what does it take to get him. Gio has been wanting the Jets to go after Jon Gruden. Boomer checked his sources and confirmed that Gruden wants back in. Gio wonders if Roger Goodell would let him back in after what he said in those emails. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with audio from Giants GM Joe Schoen as he met the media. Boomer wants Sauce Gardner to put the phone down and stop tweeting. The NBA Cup started last night and the Knicks beat the Sixers. Jerry Seinfeld called in to C-Mac's show after the producer said there were only 3 good episodes. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito starting in place of Daniel Jones after the bye. DeVito brings energy and excitement and the fanbase likes him. Maybe the Giants are afraid of having success with him. Hour 2 We talked about who could be the next head coach for the Jets and a name that has popped up is Steve Spagnuolo. He's been involved with 4 Super Bowl championships with the Chiefs and Giants. The Bears and Cowboys are going to be the most coveted jobs, the Jets the least, so Spagnuolo coming here is not likely. A caller wants the Giants to sign Arch Manning now, which is not the way it works in the NFL. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Joe Schoen meeting the media. Jerry Jones was on the radio in Dallas and again was talking about the sun during games. The Knicks beat the Sixers in Philly. Jerry Seinfeld called in to the C-Mac show last night and talked about the great Mets run, saying it was the most magical outside of the two World Series wins. Seinfeld would rather build a Mets team than getting Juan Soto. He then asked C-Mac what the pain was like in the fifth inning of the Yankees debacle. In the final segment of the hour, a caller said Boomer doesn't admit when he's wrong. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his Wednesday spot and we start with the game in Germany that Phil did on the radio. We talked about Daniel Jones' performance against the Panthers and Phil said he's seen this before over and over again. Phil doesn't think the Giants are going to leapfrog Drew Lock for Tommy DeVito. We asked Phil if he thought Jon Gruden would be a good fit for the Jets, but Phil said the NFL will not welcome him back with open arms. He does think Gruden and Rodgers would be a good combo. He doesn't think Gruden and Caleb Williams would be a good fit in Chicago. Phil could not believe how much the Cardinals rolled the Jets. Jerry returns for an update and has audio from NFL films as the Cardinals were beating the Jets and Kyler Murray was talking about fast food. We wondered if Long John Silvers is still around. In the final segment of the hour, Rich Gannon joins us to talk about Jon Gruden wanting to come back to the NFL and Gio would love to have him for the Jets. Rich thinks the Jets are a complete disaster right now. Rich said not one player has come out to say something bad about Gruden. Rich doesn't think Aaron Rodgers is not coming back next year. Rich also told us what's to blame for the Jets current situation. Hour 4 We talked more about the possibility of Jon Gruden to the Jets. He is the perfect fit for the Jets. But Rich Gannon seemed to think Gruden wants to go to a better situation than the Jets have right now. Boomer thinks his personality is great for the Jets, the same way Rex Ryan was. Gio is worried that no real candidate wants the Jets job and we thought maybe Gruden was desperate enough to take it. But if there are multiple teams offering him a job, he's not coming to the Jets. A caller wants Rex back. Jerry returns for his final update of the day, but first Boomer wonders about Aaron Glenn coaching for the Jets. Jerry asked Boo ...

Boomer is back today.

Please Subscribe and Review: Apple Podcasts | RSS Submit your questions for the podcast here News Topic: SNACK FOOD CEO VOWS TO BATTLE OZEMPIC   Questions:    Shitty question: digestion and regularity Jonathan writes: Hey Robb and Nikki, Long time listener, first time caller. Have been listening on and off since the paleo solution days with Greg Everett. (six listeners can't be wrong!) Quick back story (that you can cut if this is too much but maybe helpful context), about a year ago I had a bout of food poisoning and developed a weird aversion/anxiety around eating for a few months after. I got through it with meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy and completed the Nerva hypnotherapy course recently (which was pretty nice). I think a lot of ibs symptoms that I developed came from anxiety, panic, hypervigilance and fixation and have mostly subsided as I worked in it. However, I still have problems with Regularity. I'll have a few days of slow digestion and some heartburn, bloating, and gas then a few days of everything coming out with some moderate to severe "get your ass to the bathroom quick!" mixed in, then back to slow... You get the picture. It's like things get backed up then all move at once, rinse and repeat. Went to a gi doc and he was pretty not helpful - tested for celiac (I don't have it) and IBD (I don't have it) and then told me to, like, ya know, drink Metamucil and maybe, if I wanted, follow a low fodmap diet, or whatever man... Oh, and stop drinking kombucha. Good luck! I also did a Viome test and it told me my overall gut health was good but digestion scores were poor and have some very vague dietary recommendations, though I haven't tried their probiotic yet. Anyway, with the testing behind me I went down the path of looking back at diet and driving myself insane, it's just so hard to pick through the noise Fiber is good! No fiber is not necessary! Eat yogurt! No actually, dairy is bad! Take Probiotics! No, Probiotics don't matter, take prebiotics instead! It's probably Sibo bro! But you can easily check for that so.... And on and on it goes. OK, so my actual question is: Are there any general dietary or lifestyle non-negotiables you would reccomend to help with digestion and regularity? What are the food or diet boxes to tic. Maybe there are even some supplements or other potential things like zone 2 cardio, abdominal massage, cold showers... Anything. I'm pretty healthy otherwise with my exercise being wendler powerlifting and rucking, but don't follow a super strict diet. I do now super enzymes before the first bite of lunch and dinner and take Probiotics on and off along with some fermented foods. I try to drink a lot of water but fiber drinks tend to give me some stomach upset. Appreciate you taking the time to read this. Thanks for any help you can give!   GERD, ammonia breath, and macros Nancy writes: Hi Robb and Nikki: Been one of your 6 listeners since the Paleo Solution Podcast days and first just want to thank you both for the wealth of knowledge you continue to share... your curiosity, smarts, humility and sanity have been a godsend, especially over the last 3 years. Okay, here goes... I'm having two troubling issues and am wondering if they're related: I've had what I'm pretty sure is undiagnosed GERD for about the last 3 years, but a recent overindulgence at a cookout sent it over the top. I don't feel so much heart-BURN as bloating (in the stomach, not abdomen), along with a dry cough (mostly at night), a globus sensation in my throat, the feeling of post-nasal drip, and even fluid on the middle ear when things really flare up. Oh, and the first symptom I ever noticed was after an emergency appendectomy when I discovered my tooth enamel was being corroded... coincidence? To mitigate symptoms since this recent flare-up, I've been sleeping propped up at a 45-degree angle, chewing my food into oblivion, walking after meals, practicing diaphragmatic breathing and hoping like hell to get a handle on this (without meds) before it destroys my esophagus. (Tried pickle juice, ACV and ginger... very modest effects, at best, but tasty!) No one has had the balls to tell me this, but I'm pretty sure my breath smells like urine. I constantly smell it on the rim of my drinking glass, and no, I'm not drinking pee. Also did the lick-the-wrist test and got the same smell. The internet wants to convince me I have chronic kidney failure but my kidneys appear to be working fine... no pee issues at all other than smelling it where I shouldn't. For context: I'm a 56-year-old, post-menopausal female, 5-ft 8, 150-lb mesomorph, active daily (yoga and hiking), in good shape, strong immune system, don't smoke or drink (other than a glass of white wine once a week), have regular, near-perfect poops, and eat fairly clean (whole foods plus olive oil, butter, the occasional white basmati rice and super dark chocolate), with a long, never-fully consummated flirtation with keto... hey, fat is flavor, what're ya gonna do? I also, pretty naturally, tend to stick with a 16:8 fasting-feeding window, skipping breakfast most days. I'm wondering if (despite getting a decent amount of vegetable-, fruit-, and rice-based carbs) my high fat intake and the IF might have generated enough ketones to make my breath smell pee-ish, or if that's almost always a sign of too much protein. Thing is, I don't typically get more than 40-50g of animal protein a day (e.g., 2 or 3 eggs for lunch and a 6-oz. slab of salmon for dinner) and as a post-menopausal woman, feel my protein intake is already low. My hunch is that the pee breath and GERD are related, but I'm not clear as to how. I'm wondering — if I AM getting enough fat to be in ketosis, could the fat in my diet be causing the GERD? Or is it more likely that I'm not actually in ketosis but that the GERD is causing the pee breath? (And do you think the appendix surgery could have caused the GERD, what with things getting shoved around in there willy-nilly?) Apologies for the long-winded question-palooza... totally understand if this is too long for the podcast, but if you ARE able to offer any insights, they would be very much appreciated.
