Sharni Norder (Layton) is a former captain of the Australian Diamonds Netball Team, 2 x International Player of the year and domestic premiership winner. She also is an AFLW All Australian, former Collingwood Vice Captain & TV & Radio Presenter. What a blast it was welcoming Sharni onto the show and having a laugh whilst discussing a wide range of topics in both the sporting world and Sharni's personal life. From inside the locker room stories in both the Australian National Netball camp & AFLW dressing rooms, to the wider and complex issues in Women's sport, Sharni isn't afraid to hold back in her beliefs and opinions and shared stories that left nothing on the table. We laughed as Sharni told premiership winning bender stories, dirty opposition tactics & on field sledges. But we also heard some of the amazing hardships she has had to experience including the impact of Danny Frawley's death, her battle with depression and some of the darkest days she's ever faced. This one will affect you in different ways but you'll sure be laughing throughout and hear some incredible insights. Here is the one, the only, Sharni Norder! Sir Donald Bradman is quoted to have said “Walter was the greatest billiards player who ever lived". Walter held the World Professional Billiard title from 1933 until 1950 and held 57 world records of which 56 are still standing. And all this after losing the tip of his index finger at the age of 3 which led to his father teaching him to play billiards left-handed. A true Aussie sporting legend. We had a strange week around here at The Blue Testament. Vox Media announced that MLS sites will no longer be "supported" by SB Nation. We don't have much info to offer an update at the moment, but we really appreciate all the support that has come our way and we want everyone to know this won't stop us! Thanks again for all the love this past week. We'll keep you updated on the next steps. Sporting KC made a very MLS trade involving fake money (GAM) and a chair on the bench (international roster spot). How many green cards are we up to these days? Roger Espinoza joins us from Arizona to give an update on preseason action. He's back again at age 36, but says his body is feeling good. Although he doesn't expect to replicate what Tom Brady is doing. The midfield will look quite different from last season with new faces like Radoja & Flores, and the return of Gadi Kinda. How exactly does Espinoza fit into the mix? During the scrimmage with the Portland Timbers last weekend, Roger & Diego Chara reminisced about their long careers of running into people. We talked about dipping his toes into coaching, high expectations for his wife Lo'eau LaBonta & the KC Current this year, Cristiano Ronaldo, and much more. It's always a good time hanging out with the future Sporting Legend. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Life and Sporting Legend of Jim Thorpe.
Sophie Devine is pretty much NZ sporting royalty (She will squirm big time at that sentence!). She's played hockey for NZ and she is currently the captain of the White Ferns cricket team. She made her first class debut at 14 and has been in the national side since she was 17 (she's 32 now). She's a bloody laugh and I loved our chat. She was 100% open and honest about a terrifying breakdown she experienced that saw her walk away from the game she loves until she felt ready to return. We also talk about living with diabetes, her really-reaaly long distance relationship, playing in all boys teams as a kid and loads more. Theres a fair bit of cricket chat in here. But shes such a good story teller that it is all pretty good stuff. Follow Sophie on IG: @Sophd77 This podcast has been brought to you by Arepa. The Female Career. Trailblazing New Zealand women share their career journeys
Honey Hireme-Smiler has had an incredible sporting career, representing New Zealand in Rugby League, Rugby Sevens and Rugby Union. She's been an exceptional flag bearer for women's rugby league. She has played with the Kiwi Ferns in 4 rugby league world cups, finishing the 2017 tournament as top try scorer and is current co-captain of the team alongside Laura Mariu. In 2020 she was appointed a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for her services. In Rugby, she was part of the Black Ferns team to play in the 2014 Rugby World Cup where she was named as part of the tournament ‘Dream team'. She has played in the NZ Rugby Sevens team in the 2013 world cup and in the IRB world series. In recent years, she's moved behind the microphone, working as a sports commentator and presenter for Sky Sport. As a day job, she works as a Disability sport advisor for the Halberg foundation, helping young people with physical disabilities to get involved in sport. "Courage has been huge for me. I think I naturally always had it on the field. Make no mistake; I play a contact sport and I spent the first 10 years of my career from 5 through to 15 playing against boys, tackling boys. So that took a lot of courage obviously. But what I've found is that courage has now developed off the field and in my career. There's so many lessons in sport that can teach you in life as well."

A new year and a new season of the Shades of Blue Soccer Show! That's right, they have yet to kick us out of the studio. And we are starting this year off with a bang as club legend Jimmy Nielsen joins Cody, Robert, and Thad for a very long show. The White Puma was rather candied as he spoke about his youth career all the way up to his coaching career. He and his family have come back to KC after a brief stint as the head coach of Hartford Athletic, where he was far from happy. He shared some wonderfully kind words about Kansas City that will warm the heart of any native. The Cauldron, of course, gave him fond memories that we all enjoyed revisiting. For the league and club's 25th anniversary season, we will be having on several former players and staff all season long to take a look back through the years. We asked Nielsen his thoughts on the progression of Sporting Kansas City and Major League Soccer as a whole. He had some hilarious stories to tell about shenanigans of old teammates like Casey Keller, Kei Kamara, and even an Aurélien Collin hangover at training. We also hit him with rapid fire questions like his most hated MLS player, best friend, funniest teammate, and worst game he can remember. His coaching mind was also put to the test in naming his Sporting KC All-Decade team. Hear him describe the fateful 2013 MLS Cup Final in which he played 120 minutes then won in PK's with a broken rib. "I was in pain. I couldn't get out of bed. I could not sit on the toilet. But I didn't want to miss that one," the puma explains. "I took injections and tried everything. I had a shot in my ass, I had shots directly into my ribs, everything!" This man is an absolute legend. Yet somehow not an official Sporting Legend. What exactly are they waiting for? Sit back, relax, and enjoy a deep dive into the good ol' days! If you watched the U.S. broadcast of the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony, you may have heard Matt Lauer and Bob Costas mention Jim Thorpe during Sweden’s entrance. Thorpe, arguably the best all-around athlete in U.S. history, won Olympic gold in both the pentathlon and the decathlon in the Stockholm 1912 games. But his victory was marred by a controversial International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruling that stripped him of his medals six months later. In Native American Son: The Life and Sporting Legend of Jim Thorpe (Bison Books, 2012), the first comprehensive biography of Thorpe, biographer Kate Buford explores how Thorpe’s Native American heritage shaped his life, but also the impact Thorpe himself had upon American sports. Ultimately, he was the country’s first celebrity athlete, excelling at both baseball and football. His life was memorialized in a 1951 film and, in 1963, Thorpe was among the charter class inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Despite his other successes, the revocation of Jim Thorpe’s medals remains a source of contention for his admirers, Buford among them.In 1982, the IOC approved the reinstatement of Thorpe’s medals and during London 2012, the Hammersmith tube station has been temporarily renamed in Thorpe’s honor. But, despite public outcry, the IOC still refuses to enter Thorpe’s scores into the official record of Olympic events. As Buford writes: “A gentle person, intelligent and funny, with many flaws, Jim Thorpe was not a complicated man. But what happened to him was.” Learn more about your ad choices.
