This took Kris on a wild ride over the next seven years, during which he built Australia's largest independent team of personal trainers. Rapid PT grew in Sydney and then Perth, expanding to multiple locations and over 40 PTs, turning over just shy of $400K per month... yes, you read that correctly! Kris shares parts of that wild ride, including how the business ultimately shut down in 2017. Being the type of person that Kris is, he turned adversity into opportunity, embarking on a completely new role as a remote sales closer. Sharni Norder (Layton) is a former captain of the Australian Diamonds Netball Team, 2 x International Player of the year and domestic premiership winner. She also is an AFLW All Australian, former Collingwood Vice Captain & TV & Radio Presenter. What a blast it was welcoming Sharni onto the show and having a laugh whilst discussing a wide range of topics in both the sporting world and Sharni's personal life. From inside the locker room stories in both the Australian National Netball camp & AFLW dressing rooms, to the wider and complex issues in Women's sport, Sharni isn't afraid to hold back in her beliefs and opinions and shared stories that left nothing on the table. We laughed as Sharni told premiership winning bender stories, dirty opposition tactics & on field sledges. But we also heard some of the amazing hardships she has had to experience including the impact of Danny Frawley's death, her battle with depression and some of the darkest days she's ever faced. This one will affect you in different ways but you'll sure be laughing throughout and hear some incredible insights. Here is the one, the only, Sharni Norder! In episode 10 we bring you a story from our dear friend Sharni. Sharni has not struggled with infertility, but she sure has had more than her fair share of struggles. Her little girl was born with Polymicrogyria, Arthrogryposis, and she had an Omphalocele present at the 12-week scan. The Arthrogryposis was picked up after 20 weeks, but the Polymicrogyria was not diagnosed until an MRI after birth. Further to this, she was also born with 2 holes in her heart. A few years later Sharni then suffered from 2 recurring miscarriages. Today Sharni shares the reality of being told that her little girl would be born with a disability, and how no one was able to tell her exactly what that would look like! She also shares what an emotional roller coaster it was being told scan after scan that her baby would not survive, however she has defied all odds! Little Harlow is a little fighter and is now three years old and progressing further then her doctors ever expected! Here at I&B we think it's important to not only talk about the struggles of when trying to fall pregnant but even once women are pregnant, the scary and uncertain challenges that come with motherhood such as abnormalities around scans, confronting appointments and the ongoing responsibilities that we can face for the rest of our lives. No one should ever feel alone at such a difficult time so we know that this episode will pull on a lot of your heart strings and be very close to home for some. This is the last episode of The Word On The Street Podcast for the year. We have over 4o episodes!!! And some news for next year… The Word On The Street Podcast is joining Eternity Podcast Network! I am really excited to be working with Eternity News! I can't wait to bring you more shows in the new year. What is your favourite way of celebrating Christmas? My favourite way to celebrate is the amazing feast with my family. We also like going to carols in the park, looking at fairy lights, decorating the house with gorgeous decorations, doing lots of craft. My kids would say their absolute favourite part are the presents. Gifts are a huge part of Christmas. Do you like giving or receiving the most? QUICK QUESTIONS: What is the best gift you have ever been given? What is the best gift you have ever given anyone? Who gave Jesus gifts when he was born? Would you have been happy with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh? In our family my kids don't have a lot of money and so they give presents to their siblings on their birthdays or at Christmas from things that they already have. It could be a toy, or some food they've made or a voucher for them to give me a massage. It is hard to give presents to people when you don't have much money. We can be generous with things other than our money. I can be generous with my time, and I can spend it (spend!) doing all kinds of things - things for myself - watch TV - or things for other people (cook something special, do some chores, say something nice to someone or play the game that they want to play. Bible Passage: 1 Kings 17:8-16 How was this woman generous to Elijah? She gave her last bit of food to him, even if that meant starving herself. Sometimes it is really hard to give. I have bought presents for people that my kids have wanted to keep. It was really hard for them to give them away. How hard would it be to give your last bit of food away! Imagine giving away all of your favourite toys. Would you do it? Being generous is sometimes easy. It is easy if we have plenty and what we give is only a small amount. Sharni has about 100 Beanie Boos. To give away one that she doesn't really like is fairly easy for her. She has only 1x keyboard that she plays every day. This is much harder for her to give away. Bible Passage: Mark 12:41-44 You don't have to be rich or have a lot to be generous. Jesus is saying that it isn't the amount that you give that is important. He is saying that anyone can be generous, even poor widows. And even kids. Discussion Questions: Do you find it hard or easy to give things away? Why/why not? Think of something that you have that someone really loves. Do you think that you could give that away? Discuss your thoughts together.

Sharni Nowland discusses building the case for change with onboarding and compliance training at Queensland Rail. This is a prequel to episode 47 which was about Queensland Rail’s award-winning program All Aboard. Sharni describes the challenges faced with onboarding and compliance training in the organisation. These will be familiar to others. The first is the lack of organisational-wide governance which results in a cumbersome set of mandatory training modules. The second is delivering eLearning to regions with poor intent connection. The third is how to build a compliance business case for a learning program. Sharni discusses how she tackled these challenges to gain approval to develop the All Aboard program. Marcy plays a new game with Connor and Sharni they conceived when wanting to make roleplaying games more accessible for everyone, SYNarios! In this first instalment, Darling Dashingwood the complete trickster of a bard (played by Connor) and Snuffles, the talking chess-playing dog (played by Sharni) must go into a supermarket, to purchase an whole assortment of things: milk, cookies, bread, and of course, chewing gum. And of course, chaos ensues from there. SYNarios is a Dungeons and Dragons, Choose Your Own Adventure blend of fun storytelling and roleplaying mayhem, without all of the complicated mechanics tabletop role playing games like DnD usually have. Each SYNario has a different scenario, and different characters, but choices within each SYNario are at the mercy of probability (aka a 20 sided D20 die). Expect lots of fun, and whimsical chaos, as each player improv their way through each SYNario, bouncing off each other, the Game Master (GM), and the scenario itself! Originally broadcast on Sunday the 10th of November. Produced and edited by Marcy Di Bartolomeo.
In this second instalment of SYNarios on Art Smitten, Marcy takes Connor and Sharni, whose characters are an unholy fusion of Marvel's Wolverine and Devil May Cry's Dante (who is a wolf...also named Dante), and a young sword-swinging apprentice named Lana respectively, through a zombie apocalypse. Which quickly becomes a race against time, as Dante and Lana must find the cure to their newly acquired zombie infection, before they succumb to their infection, and become shambling corpses themselves. SYNarios is a Dungeons and Dragons, Choose Your Own Adventure blend of fun storytelling and roleplaying mayhem, without all the complicated mechanics tabletop role playing games like D and D usually have. Sharni's weight loss journey started 4 Jan 2017 when she stood on the scales for the first time in a long time. She knew it was time for a change and after a lot of hard work lost 45kgs in just over a year, however she was left with redundant skin and large, severely sagging breasts. After a lot of research, Sharni had surgery with Dr Matthew Peters from Valley Plastic Surgery in Brisbane and says he's "the man who changed my life." This is her story.

Over a 14-year sporting career, Sharni Layton became one of our most well-known and decorated netball players. She’s won world titles with the Samsung Diamonds, along with Commonwealth Games gold in 2014. Meanwhile, off the court, the popular defender shocked Australia earlier this year when she has bravely stepped away from the court and missed the 2018 Commonwealth Games due to mental exhaustion. Having recently retired from netball (and announced a move to AFLW in 2019) Sharni’s now more determined than ever to make a comeback on the international stage, speak openly about mental health, and be an inspiration to others who’ve experienced adversity. In this intimate chat, Sharni shares what she’s learnt about emotional resilience, backing yourself, the incredible rise of women in sport, and how she finally decided it was time to walk away from the career she truly loved. The fall out to the attempted murder of a former spy continues with UK police contacting a number of Russian exiles to discuss their safety That's after Prime Minister Theresa May said it was highly likely the Russian State was responsible for posioning Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the English City of Salisbury. In response, amongst other sanctions, came the decision this week that no member of the British government or Royal family will go to this summer's Football World Cup in Russia But should England pull out of the tournament completely? We speak to sports historian John Hoberman. The increase in media coverage of Paralympic sport since London 2012 is clear. NBC in the United States aired a record 250 hours of coverage from these games in PeyongChang. But how accessible are some of the Winter Paralympic sports below the very elite level? We sent Richard Fleming along to join a ski group on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. We also speak to US snowboarder Amy Purdy, who was only given a 2% chance of survival when she had meningitis when she was 19 years old. This week, she won silver and bronze at the Winter Paralympics. She tells Caroline about her journey which involved dancing at the Rio Games Opening Ceremony with stomach flu and TV show Dancing with the Stars. Less than three weeks away from the Commonwealth Games and for the first time in the Games history, there will be a women's competition in Rugby Sevens. Sharni Williams will be part of the Australia team and will be looking to add to the gold medal she won at the 2016 Olympics in Rio but as she tells Caroline, rugby was not Sharni's first love - instead she has a real passion for getting her hands greasy and fixing cars. After clinching her first win at the Cheltenham Festival in March as an amateur, 22-year-old Bryony Frost is the talk of the racing world, with 30 victories since April 2017. As a child, Frost was riding the family donkey by the time she could walk and often her parents would let the donkey effectively be Bryony’s babysitter when they went out. When she was 15, after a fall, the infection turned into septicaemia and went to the lungs. She was in hospital for two months and was close to death. But Bryony recovered and became an amateur jockey at the age of 16. Now Frost is expecting to compete in the Grand National. Frost’s success has brought up a lot of headlines about the lack of professional female jockeys. A recent study showed that roughly one in 10 race jockeys with a professional license are women, with female jockeys only taking 5% of available rides. Ruqsana Begum is from a strict Muslim family in East London, who fell in love with kick-boxing but kept her participation secret from her parents for five years. Ruqsana Begum went on to become a world champion despite a disastrous arranged marriage and a mental breakdown. No wonder Hollywood are interested in taking her story to the big screen. On Saturday, Ruqsana starts a new career with her first contest in professional boxing, and hopes the extra expose can inspire more Muslim girls to take up sport. Despite having no professional league, and not even another side to play against. And despite making do with second hand kit, the countries only ice-hockey team have their sights set on the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. They practise every Wednesday night in Nairobi, led by captain Robert Opiyo. Picture - World Cup draw (Credit - Getty Images)

Shannon and Fiona sat down with dynamic NSW Swifts midcourter Paige Hadley and were blown away by the young athlete’s incredible attitude to life and overcoming the obstacles it can place in your way. Still only young and in the earlier part of her career, Hadley has reached the incredible heights of netball, having recently won the world championship with the Australian Diamonds, but has felt the massive lows elite level sport can dish out too. Currently sidelined with a knee injury, it’s not the first time Hadley has found herself working hard to get back on the court and into the team. But a strong support network in her family, some off-court distractions and commitments (she’s just finished her degree in business and is now starting a personal training qualification - talk about driven!) and role models to help her on the way (a role she’s happily adopted herself), Hadley is determined to be back and help take the next generation of Swifts to the success she’s already been part of.
It’s that time of the month again! Where Ben and Brooke sit down and answer some of your questions about all things slow living, and try to keep the stupid jokes to a minimum. (In today’s episode they succeed in at least one of these areas). This month the show opens with a question from Sharni about camping, which is super fun and timely as Brooke and Ben are currently waiting for the soaking wet Sydney March to end so they can spend some time in the national park down south. Sharni asked specifically for a list of the bare essentials when it comes to camping, which you can find over on the blog at http://www.slowyourhome.com/147. Keep in mind, much of what is suggested in the list can be borrowed rather than bought (particularly if you’re just starting out with your camping adventures and aren’t sure of your style yet) and it’s definitely worthwhile taking a few exploratory trips before committing to one kind of set up. Aside from camping, Brooke and Ben also answer questions about phone use and the arguments it can cause, as well as how to deal with the guilt that arises from even necessary purchases, learning to adopt ‘holiday slow’ in to daily life, and what to do when people aren’t down with the changes you’re making in life.
