Slow Jamz Radio is back on the internet, this time we're doing live visual sets from Slow Jamz Gallery. Episode #006 kicks off with a melting pot of Da Bassment Cru, Swing Mob, & the SuperFriends. Da Bassment Cru (aka Swing Mob) was a collective of artists founded by Jodeci member, DeVante Swing in 1995. These artists included: Timbaland, Missy Elliott (Sista), Magoo, Ginuwine, Playa, Tweet (Sugah), and many more. The group made a compilation tape that they marketed to record labels, then eventually their contributions have made it's debut from Jodeci's The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel. Da Bassment Cru/Swing Mob eventually disbanded from DeVante's mood swings and the artists continued to collaborate under the collective, The Superfriends in 1997. In my opinion, this is really when each individual artist began to shine and rise to growth. Timbaland & Magoo dropped their album, they adopted Aaliyah to their roster (in which Tim, Missy, & Static backed her project), Missy dropped Supa Dupa Fly, Playa dropped Cheers 2 U, and Ginuwine wanted to be your pony. Aaliyah's death in 2001 shook the collective and the members began to drift apart. TRACKLIST: Heartbroken by Aaliyah Say My Name (Timbaland's Remix) by Destiny's Child After Dark by Drake ft. This year has brought plenty of good and controversial news surrounding Aaliyah. It began with promises that the late singer's music would be added to streaming services after decades of fighting for it. At long last, her second and third albums, One In A Million and Aaliyah, were uploaded to DSPs after Blackground Records, the label the projects were released on, signed a distribution deal with EMPIRE. That move proved to be controversial as it was soon revealed that Aaliyah's estate would not benefit from the move. Now, months later Blackground has officially announced a new posthumous Aaliyah album is on the way, and today, they've released the lead single from it. Blackground shares “Poison” with The Weeknd, a cross-generational collaboration between the R&B stars of yesterday and today. It features songwriting from the late Static Major and The Weeknd himself as well as production from DannyBoyStyles and Nick Lamb. “Poison” marks the first original release from Aaliyah in well over a decade, and there's more on the way. The track is the first single from Aaliyah's upcoming album Unstoppable, and in a press release, Blackground's founder Barry Hankerson spoke about the new song and the upcoming project. “I'm so excited to share this new song by Aaliyah and the very talented The Weeknd,” he said about the new single. “I wanted her adoring fans to get a special gift before the holidays and felt it was the perfect time to release a never-before-heard offering.” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support

Mark Ronson has a CV too long to list here. Suffice to say he's a musician who's worked with everyone from Amy Winehouse to Lady Gaga to Dua Lipa, has one of the highest selling singles of all time with Bruno Mars in “Uptown Funk,” and has been making just really good music since the turn of the millennium. He's also the presenter of one of our all time favorite TED talks on the history of sampling, and he's been continuing that journey of musical curiosity with the Apple TV show “Watch The Sound,” which explores the untold stories behind music creation and the lengths producers and creators are willing to go to find the perfect sound, and the FADER Uncovered Podcast, where he interviews artists ranging from David Byrne to HAIM. Today, Mark is the guest for another episode of Modern Classics, in which he brings Ginuwine's classic 90s jam “Pony,” produced by Timbaland and Static Major, as an example of the ways that innovation and radical experimentation undergird even the biggest of pop smashes.  Songs Discussed Ginuwine - Pony Rakim - Juice (Know the Ledge) Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Part II Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody? 10cc - I'm Not in Love Shangri-Las - Remember (Walkin' in the Sand) Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson - Valerie Paul McCartney - Get Enough Usher - Climax Beatles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer Stevie Wonder - You Are the Sunshine of My Life Cher - Believe Gang Starr - Work Nikka Costa - Like a Feather Stevie Wonder - Superstition Learn more about your ad choices. As names like Florence Price and William Grant Still become more familiar to the masses, it's important to also celebrate Black musicians who embrace "classical" music's contemporary aesthetics. Composer Clifton Joey Guidry III joins Garrett to talk about mental health as a young creator, their experiences as a Black, trans bassoonist in contemporary music spaces, and the situation that inspired their composition, "Shut the Fuck Up and Listen". Public Media continues to be one of the principle vehicles for "classical" music, and the coalition, Public Media For All, is here to push its institutions toward radical and equitable change. Born in Chicago and raised in Louisville, KY, Solo LaMaze is a breath of fresh air for the growing music scene in the Midwest. As with all the greats, Solo LaMaze found his passion early picking up the mic at the age of 11. When local producers denied him access to studio time and beats much like his hometown hero Muhammad Ali he responded like any champion would and opened his own studio and production company, Organized Swagg, before his 18th birthday. His first single "Eeeh" blazed Louisville's number one hip-hop station, B96.5 WGZB, for weeks and when his next single followed, "Lace Me Up", he was basically a household name.Solo Lamaze was mentored by the late platinum recording artist Static Major. Solo LaMaze's "Ain't Normal" takes you through the gauntlet of what is the black experience in 2020 America; where everything is stacked against us, even our own communities. The goal is to survive and instead of being afforded the luxury to thrive. This shouldn't be Normal! Stay connected with the artist: Instagram : sololamaze

We discussed Mike and Headliners being instrumental to the local music scene and how without it's existence there would be no Villebillies. We shared some crazy stories including the time Villebillies and Too Short had a show together at Headliners and it resulted in the police shooting tear gas into the venue, George Clinton wearing a diaper asking for weed, Static Major and Universal Records watching from the balcony, Method Man, Terry Harper and a ton more. The changes will take effect with the 61st Grammys in 2019 when it returns to Los Angeles. Rapper T.I. is in talks to join Eddie Murphy in the Rudy Ray Moore biopic, "Dolemite Is My Name!" Murphy will star as Moore, which also features Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, and Tituss Burgess. You here for a Dolemite reboot? XXXTentacion bectoms the first lead artist to top Hot 100 posthumously since Biggie. Back in 1997, The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize" and "Mo Money Mo Problems" hit #1 on the Hot 100 after his death. Another deceased leading artist hasn't topped the chart until this week when XXXTentacion rose to the highest position. XXX's "SAD!" is now the most popular song in the country. Only seven other acts have reached #1 on the Hot 100 after passing away. Static Major was the last act to earn a chart topper after death with his feature on Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" in 2008. XXXTentacion was killed in Deerfield Beach, Florida on June 18. He was 20 years old - R.I.P. We also had in studio, King Midas. Check him out everywhere @kingmidas (IG) @kingmidasmusic (Twitter). It was a pretty spontaneous episode for us as we didn't know whether Edd was going to be on the podcast, so we had to freestyle our way through it. The result was actually solid as we talked about new and old R&B. We start off the podcast talking about Ne-Yo's new single which is Poppy with sort of a disco vibe to it. Afterwards we talk about the outlook of Ne-Yo's career and try to see where he can go with his next album. We also talk about his sound and whether it's fair to classify him as R&B. We also try to figure out if we can put The Weeknd and Frank Ocean in the same category as Charlie Wilson when we talk about pure R&B. Afterwards we talk about Mali Music's new album as well as the rumored solo album from T-Boz. We also talk about younger R&B listeners and debate whether they appreciate ballads and real vocals. We agree that they probably don't listen to R&B songs for vocals anymore because that's not what they're exposed to. Afterwards we talk about whether there needs to be a new Aaliyah album as it has been rumored for the last couple of years. We also talk about the upcoming Static Major mixtape that his window is planning to put together. For our R&B hall of fame, we don't actually go too deep in the discussion so we're going to leave it up to you guys to induct H-Town and Christopher Williams into the hall of fame. Lastly, we do an album look back at Keyshia Cole's sophomore album "Just Like You" and talk about what prevented her from reaching that next level with her career.

Aaliyah - Try Again Free DL >> https://hypeddit.com/track/7aj6wf "Try Again" is a song by American recording artist Aaliyah. It was written by Static Major and Timothy Mosley, and produced by Timbaland. The song was released on February 22, 2000, as the lead single for the soundtrack to the film Romeo Must Die, and was later included on international pressings of the singer's self-titled album. "Try Again" features an intro in which Timbaland pays homage to Eric B. & Rakim by rapping the duo's opening verse from "I Know You Got Soul". It's been a long time I Know I shouldn't left you, left you, Without a dope beat to step to Step to, step to, step to Step to, Freaky, freaky, freaky (baby girl) What would you do To get to me? What would you say To have your way? Would you give up? Or try again If I hesitate to let you in? Now would you be yourself Or play a role? Tell all the boys Or keep it low? If I say no Would you turn away Or play me off Or would you stay (oooohhh)... If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again I'm in to you You in to me? But I can't let it go So easily, Not 'till I see What this could be Could be eternity Or just a week? You know our chemistry It's off the chain It's perfect now But will it change? This ain't a yes This ain't a no Just do your thang And we'll see how it goes (oooohhh)... If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again See you don't wanna throw it all away I might be shy on the first date but what about the next date (huh, huh, huh, huh) See you don't wanna throw it all away I might be buggin' on the first date but what about the next date (huh, huh, huh, huh, oh) If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again It's been a long time (long time) Shouldn't have left you (left you) Without a dope beat to step to Step to, step to, step to If at first you don't succeed (First you don't succeed) Then dust yourself off and try again You can dust if off and try again, try again 'Cause if at first you don't succeed (at first you don't succeed) You can dust it off and try again, Dust yourself off and try again, try again Again, again It's been a long time (long time) Shouldn't have left you (left you) Without a dope beat to step to Step to, step to, step to Download for free on The Artist Union
