We're on the edge of so many tipping points it's hard to know where to start. But paralysis isn't useful and so we need to talk to the people who are still moving forward - and who have ideas of how we can carry more and more people with us. With that in mind, this week's guest is a many-time friend of the podcast: someone completely aligned with our aims and ideals and whose energy, activism - and capacity to write and publish books that are right on the nail - leave me awestruck. Professor Rupert Read is an associate professor of Philosophy at the University of East Anglia. With a first degree from Oxford and a doctorate from Rutger's, he has a polished academic pedigree and he's certainly written a lot of philosophical texts and papers. But it's as an activist, thought-leader and fearless advocate for truth that he really stands out. Rupert's books 'This Civilisation is Finished', 'Parents For a Future' and, most recently 'Do you want to know the Truth' are all hard-hitting examinations of exactly where we are and how we could move forward in ways that will at least begin to acknowledge the truths of the meta crisis. It's not all writing, though, Rupert, was one of the core founders of Extinction Rebellion and has been arrested for his actions on behalf of our future. He went on to co-found the Moderate Flank and is now one of the key thinkers and figureheads of the Climate Majority Project. He appears almost daily on television and radio in the UK and around the world and I am really grateful that he's made the time to join us here at Accidental GodsRupert's website https://rupertread.net/books/The Climate Majority Project https://climatemajorityproject.com/IF you want to help - the CROWDFUNDER is here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/power-climate-action

This week: How long do city electric buses last? Our city says, 'Not so long.' Tesla refines its own lithium because it has to. Lagos, Nigera gets twelve THOUSAND electric buses. 45% of auto dealers in the U.S. won't sell you an electric car. You can't call someone an enviromentalist just because they want to save the planet from being unihabitable for their grand children. Colorado is looking to ban gas lawn mowers! Good for them. They follow California. Speaking of California, they're looking at forcing all EVs sold in the state to be capable of vehicle to grid sharing. 3% of so-called Canadian energy is being stopped due to wild fires in Alberta. We end with the Lightning Round, a fast-paced look at the headlines in clean energy and transportation. Featuring ‘Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics', ‘Stop Global Warming – a price for carbon to fight climate change' and ‘Fraternité 2020 - Mobility. Progress. Europe.' ECIs In 2022 we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the ECI, and in this chapter we meet organisers from the past, present and (potentially) future - Simona Pronckutė, Dr Julia Baines and Virginia Fiume. Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics is a current initiative aiming to fully ban cosmetics ingredient tests on animals and modernise animal-free science. And they want to become the fastest ECI to reach 1 million signatures! After two years of campaigning and the signature collection period closing in the summer of 2021, Virginia Fiume shares insightful reflections from the Stop Global Warming initiative. She and her colleagues have channelled their experience with the ECI into the EUMANS.eu project and promise to be back! Finally, we hear from an organiser of the first-ever registered ECI ‘Fraternité 2020 - Mobility. Progress. Europe.' What was Simona's experience like 10 years ago – and how has taking part in an ECI influenced her life?

The fossil fuel industry knows how to stop global warming, but they're waiting for someone else to pay, says climate science scholar Myles Allen. Instead of a total ban on carbon-emitting fuels, Allen puts forth a bold plan for oil and gas companies to progressively decarbonize themselves and sequester CO2 deep in the earth, with the aim of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 and creating a carbon dioxide disposal industry that works for everyone.

Copyright 2020 - The Energy Show, Barry Cinnamon As our society recovers from the triple threats of Coronavirus, economic collapse and social unrest, the longer term threat of global warming continues to hang over our heads. Earlier this year — just as the Coronavirus hit and our economy went into a recession — the Trillion Trees Act was introduced. Representative Bruce Westerman, a pro-logging advocate from Arkansas introduced this act, along with several Republican colleagues. Representative Steve Stivers of Ohio hailed the act as offering a powerful solution to combat our changing climate. And President Trump declared the US will join this initiative. A fundamental claim of this initiative is that a trillion trees is an important part of solving the global climate crisis. In itself, this claim is an acknowledgment by Republicans that there is indeed a global warming problem that humans can effectively address. Both political parties to some degree acknowledge that global warming is a man-made problem. With abundant apologies to Joyce Kilmer: "I think that I shall never see, a Global Warming Solution as lovely as a tree. So the real question becomes: “how effectively can a trillion trees solve global warming?” Please listen to this week's Energy Show as we delve into a few of the scientific and economic issues related to the Trillion Trees Act, including: how trees sequester carbon, how much CO2 will a trillion trees remove, how much land is required, how much will it cost to plant a trillion trees, how long will it take for these trees to capture atmospheric CO2, and to cap it all off — can Congress pass such a bill.

If we really want to address climate change, we need to make gender equity a reality, says writer and environmentalist Katharine Wilkinson. As part of Project Drawdown, Wilkinson has helped scour humanity's wisdom for solutions to draw down heat-trapping, climate-changing emissions: obvious things like renewable energy and sustainable diets and not so obvious ones, like the education and empowerment of women. In this informative, bold talk, she shares three key ways that equity for women and girls can help stop global warming. "Drawing down emissions depends on rising up," Wilkinson says.

I saw my first fashion show in Paris when I was 11 and when I was in high school, I wrote everything I wore on a calendar so I wouldn't repeat an outfit! Not much has changed! I found yoga in 2009 when I landed in LA & managed a popular yoga studio in Santa Monica. While I enjoyed practicing yoga, I was drawn to the boutique at the studio and prided myself on taking really good care of it. One day, a student left his script at the studio by accident, and it clicked to me that the entertainment industry lent itself to a casual lifestyle. I realized that Angelenos are working from home writing, learning lines, auditioning, rehearsing music & working out. After I joined this eco-conscious & creative community of yogis, I realized that they were under served in casual lifestyle apparel that can be worn on and off the mat.It was then that an idea was born to design a line of clothing that was fashion forward, eco-friendly, and versatile for a casual lifestyle. So I designed Soul Rx, a line of ecologically responsible & versatile clothing line made of biodegradable resources and made right here in Los Angeles.Soul Rx launched in March at The Oscar's Gifting Suites.

The advocacy group's president, Fred Krupp, believes business-friendly approaches such as carbon cap-and-trade systems are the best way to fight global warning.
