As the Ban Ki-Moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations said: “Investing in women is not only the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do.”For the Authority Partners, gender diversity is one of our business priorities. In AP, close to 30% are women. While this is an excellent number for the IT industry, there is still much to do. We are involved in IT girls, the Women mentorship network, Women's Empowerment Principles program. In AP, do not differentiate between men and women in IT. We are welcoming all IT professionals. In this Podcast, Amina Karic, Vice President of Operations at AP, and Zerina Mandzo, Project Associate for IT Girls in B&H, are discussing reasons for the lack of women in the ICT sector, how do we shape one voice to fight stereotypes, how important is to engage in encouraging a change of attitude and behavior and more. This podcast is just a small step to inspire and empower more women choosing IT-related career paths.Disclaimer: The views expressed in this podcast are the speaker's own and do not reflect the view of Authority Partners.

Topic - Women and the military draft In October, 2017, the Pentagon recommended that women be required to register for the military draft in order to boost enrollment by 11 million soldiers. Currently, only male citizens and immigrants between the ages of 18 and 25 are currently required to sign up for the draft. At this time, there is no active draft and no citizen is required to join the military. Of course, that could change in a moment if we were attacked by a foreign government. However, we have a big problem. 71% of 17 to 24-year olds don't qualify for military service because of obesity, lack a high school diploma or have certain tattoos and ear gauges. Some are taking medications for ADHD. However, some of these requirements can be waived. We may not be ready to go to war, but we may not know until the troops take to the battlefield, the oceans or the skies. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message

The Lionel SHIPman $HAPE YOUR FINANCES Show is a financial & life empowerment show focusing on our lives around money & finances. The show aims to educate and motivate people to improve their financial outlooks and empower them to take charge of their lives and to live life to the fullest. Topic: Women and Finances Series #10: Tune in and hear the challenges and achievements of various women in finance and business. Guest: Lisa Phillips. A native Baltimorean, Lisa was raised in the Lexington Terrace Housing Projects. Her childhood in Baltimore was mired in neglect, sexual abuse and abandonment. With no support, guidance nor treatment for these issues, she found her gripped with homelessness, severe poverty, stress and a lot of anger. Despite all these barriers and many other struggles, she maintained a positive outlook on life and eventually became a proud graduate of Coppin State University with a BS in Business Management and a MBA from University of Baltimore. While pursuing her bachelor's degree, Lisa started Celeebrate Us Gift Baskets (spelled with an extra “e” because she does extra for her customers). As she continued her journey on personal development, she embraced the value and power of volunteerism. In 2015, she contacted the Department of Social Services to ask for a volunteer opportunity to mentor women on welfare. Lisa spent many years on welfare and understood the pain and humiliation of having to depend on government assistance. As she shared her desire to mentor young women with a staff member at DSS, she was connected to the Workforce Development Administrator that thought that her journey towards self-sufficiency was very powerful and offered her a contract to conduct a workforce training course. That relationship has blossomed in a tremendous way and now includes providing workforce training to homeless youth in Baltimore City.

IronRadio podcast listeners participate in a variety of ways. Some, especially nerdy, even submit research news. Karin Layton is one such long-time listener. Bringing a background in biology, engineering, and a passion for powerlifting, it was high time she verbally joined the discussion. Topics range from peer support, to the qualities of a good scientist and how they serve a lifter, to women granting themselves permission to get big and strong. Also, special appreciation goes out to Scott and to Damon, Neil, Jill, Kurt, and Ryan for their ongoing strong support of the show!

Strength From The Lion’s Den- host Apostle John L. Solomon Sept 27th at 7pm Call in {516} 418-5937 topic: “Women and football: She loves me, she loves me not” Football has long been consider a man’s game, played, loved, and operated by men. Those days are over where only tomboys liked sports or the women were in the kitchen and the men in the living room watching the game. In today’s society women have fallen in love and built a substantial and rather prosperous relationship of fandom, operations, and participation with football. But has football loved and treated women with the same passion, respect, and affection. Join me as my panelist and I discuss women and football.
Topic - Women and Smoking. Women have a much harder time with quitting smoking and it's a brain thing. When women smoke, dopamine, the reward and pleasure chemical is released rapidly into the part of the brain associated with habit formation. We know that nicotine causes 200% more dopamine to be released when you smoke. But this “double whammy” of delivering so much dopamine to the habit forming center of the brain makes it difficult for women to quit. Women need a very different approach to reduce their tobacco use than men. They may smoke because of habit and not a true addiction. An effective program may focus on their smoking behavior. When men smoke, dopamine is released into the part of the brain that reinforces the effects of drugs making withdrawal difficult for them. Men continue to smoke to avoid withdrawal, so the patch system may work better for them. Understand the “why” behind your smoking before you decide “what” to do about it. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message
Topic - Women and Depression. Adult women are diagnosed with depression twice as much as men. Why? Certain types of depression are related to our smaller skulls. The occipital lobe which is responsible for visual processing, sits at the back of the brain. Because women's brains fit more tightly in our skulls than men's brains, the right and left sides of the lobe wrap around each other. Unnecessary brain cells weren't killed off and there's too much brain matter to fit in the skull. This lobe overlap is associated with schizophrenia. This wrap around situation may not be helped by antidepressants. However, treatment may bring relief by pruning or killing off some of the intense connections that are responsible for depression. When people have crippling levels of depression, they are vulnerable to suicide. Having treatment options is critical. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message

Topic - Women and Clutter. When it comes to being a “neat nik”, who comes to mind? Felix Unger, Adrian Monk? Where are the women on your list? Obsessive-compulsive disorder occurs about equally in men and women. In the real world, it's women who are constantly nagging about “flat space-itis” whereby all flat space has something laying on it. Recent research shows there's a biological basis for this behavior. Surprise! Connie's ancient brain tells her to constantly evaluate the environment so she can see any possible threat. Because Connie isn't as physically strong as a man, she has to use her intelligence to keep herself safe. The dopamine in her brain helps her to see novel things around her. Basically, she has to “clean up the clutter” in order to see the sabertooth cat waiting to pounce. Oh wait, it's not a sabertooth cat, it's a backpack! Silly me! There goes my ancient brain again! Kids, give mom a break. Clean up your stuff! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message
