The Uncanny is a 1977 British-Canadian anthology horror film directed by Denis Héroux, written by Michel Parry, and starring Peter Cushing, Donald Pleasence, Ray Milland, Joan Greenwood, Donald Pilon, Samantha Eggar, and John Vernon.   Although it is similar to the horror anthologies released by Amicus Productions and could be mistaken as one, it was actually distributed by The Rank Organisation. However, the co-producer was Milton Subotsky of Amicus.   Cat's Eye (also known as Stephen King's Cat's Eye) is a 1985 American anthology horror thriller film directed by Lewis Teague and written by Stephen King. It comprises three stories, "Quitters, Inc.", "The Ledge", and "General". The first two are adaptations of short stories in King's 1978 Night Shift collection, and the third is unique to the film. The three stories are connected only by the presence of a traveling cat, which plays an incidental role in the first two and is a major character of the third.   Its cast includes Drew Barrymore, James Woods, Alan King, Robert Hays and Candy Clark.   Opening Credits; Introduction (1.00); Background History (41.36); The Uncanny (1977) Trailer (42.08); Feature Presentation (44.37); Let's Rate (1:21.14); Introducing the Second Feature (1:35.49); Cat's Eye (1989) Trailer (1:37.12); Lights, Camera, Action (1:38.34); How Many Stars (2:08.26); End Credits (2:26.00); Closing Credits (2:27.28)   Opening Credits– Epidemic Sound – Copyright . Happy New Year to all listeners out there and welcome to the first new episode of 2023! In this inaugural episode of the new year, I am accompanied by popular soundtrack album producer and editor Neil S. Tchaikovsky and North endure unkind cuts

Synopsis Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was first performed on today's date in 1881. The premiere took place in Vienna with Adolf Brodsky the violin soloist and the Vienna Philharmonic led by Hans Richter. It was not a big hit. The next day, the conservative Viennese critic Eduard Hanslick wrote: "The violin is no longer played: it is tugged about, torn, beaten black and blue." According to Hanslick, the concerto's finale (quote): "transports us to the brutal and wretched jollity of a Russian festival. We see gross and savage faces, hear crude curses, and smell the booze... Tchaikovsky's Concerto confronts us for the first time with the hideous idea that there may be musical compositions whose stink one can hear." Ouch! Tchaikovsky's score survived the bad review, but a more recent American work suffered a far unkinder cut. The original film score for the 1968 blockbuster movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey" was written by Alex North, who was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on today's date in 1910. Director Stanley Kubrick hired North to write the music for "2001," but Kubrick ultimately decided to use pre-recorded classical and contemporary music instead. When North attended the New York premiere of "2001," he was devastated that not one minute of the music he had written was included in the final edit. Believe it or not, no one had informed him in advance! Music Played in Today's Program Peter Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) Violin Concerto, Op. 35 Itzhak Perlman, violin; London Symphony; Alfred Wallenstein, conductor. Chesky 12 Alex North (1910-1991) Unused "Opening Theme," for 2001: A Space Odyssey National Philharmonic; Jerry Goldsmith, conductor. Varese Sarabande 66225

In today's episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST, Jason Drury joins Erik Woods to present part two of their look at Varese Sarabande Records' latest three batches of CD club releases. Varese Sarabande CD Club began in the late '80s which was a mail-order CD club of great film scores not otherwise available on compact disc. It wasn't until 1989 did we get to see the first release. In the first batch of releases, which came out between 1989 and 1992, we got to finally hear on CD for the first time such scores as CHERRY 2000, FEDORA, VIBES, RED SONJA, RAGGEDY MAN, STAR N BARS, THE BURBS, WE'RE NO ANGELS, JAGGED EDGE and others for the first time on CD. In part two, you'll hear selections from DANTE'S PEAK by John Frizzell with themes by James Newton Howard, PAYCHECK by John Powell and LIONHEART by Jerry Goldsmith. You'll also hear a surprise suite at the end of the program from one of the earliest releases in the Varese Sarabande CD Club back in the late 80s. On the program, I recommended that you all listen to the LIONHEART episode of THE GOLDSMITH ODYSSEY.  It's one of their very best episodes where they do a deep dive into all of the missing music and the numerous themes Goldsmith composed for the film. In Chicago we have the host of Body Counts and Beer Podcast (Mark Rosenthal) along with guest Robert Shumate. Rounding out our discussion is friend Peter Foos....who is definitely the outcast for our chat and has fallen out of love with the creature feature. We spend time discussing the origins of the first film, and whether the franchise needed Arnold to stick around or not. We chat about the sequels, and where they succeed and fail. Finally, we make our predictions for where the series should go, and who would be the best director for our favorite space faring hunter. It's a lot of sci-fi discussion on this epic episode. Enjoy! On today's episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW, we resurrect a themed show that we started producing back in the early 2000s when this very record label was established.  La La Land Records has been around since 2002 and since then we’ve produced dozens of shows dedicated exclusively to the label. We’ve also had partnerships with other labels including FILM SCORE MONTHLY, VARESE SARABANDE, KRONOS RECORDS, etc but over the years but these record label themes programs started to wane after a while. The last show dedicated solely to La La Land Records was back in June of 2012.  You can still find that show Rby going to http://www.cinematicsound.net/la-la-land-records-round-up/ So, today, we thought we’d give this other go. La La Land Records has kindly supplied the program with some of their more recent releases and we’ll include a score from their back catalogue as chosen by you on Twitter. On the program today you'll hear selections from FAR AND AWAY by John Williams, SLIVER with music by Howard Shore and additional music by Christopher Young, MYSTERY MEN by Stephen Warbeck with additional music by Shirley Walker, POINT BREAK by Mark Isham, and CASPER by James Horner. Plus, we’ll pay tribute to one of the greatest guitar heroes of all time, Eddie Van Halen, who lost his battle with cancer on October 6th. We will spin the track "Respect The Wind" from TWISTER in his honour. A big thank you to MV Gerhard and Matt Verboys at La La Land Records and Tim Burden for making this show possible —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. We discuss character turns, character deaths, dragon deaths, and production schedules. Dominic Lewis, composer on: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, Disney XD's upcoming “Duck Tales," and on the first two seasons of Amazon's THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE returns to score season 3 of the popular streaming series. The Man in the High Castle is based on Philip K. Dick's award-winning novel and explores what it would be like if the Allied Powers had lost WWII, and Japan and Germany ruled the United States. Season three of the Emmy award-winning series finds Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) grappling with her destiny after seeking safety in the Neutral Zone. Realizing that their fates are intertwined, she works with Trade Minister Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) to interpret the mystery of the last remaining films. Season 3 of The Man in the High Castle debuted on October 5, 2018 exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video platform. In the last episode of The Annotator, Lewis opened up his work for seasons 1 and 2, but here he reveals how his score for season 3 has continued to evolve while still making subtle references to thematic material introduced in the earlier seasons. Dominic Lewis talks through three pieces he wrote for season 3. He opens up on how he continues to develop thematic material introduced in previous seasons and finally, in his climactic piece of the season 3 finale, he details a number of components and processes he utilized to evoke a sense of mystery and danger.ANNOTATED TRACKS AND SEGMENTS01:45- "Trudy Suite"03:40- "Scrap Metal"05:23 - "Frank and Inspector Kido"09:20 - "The Bunker"SOUNDTRACKThe soundtrack was released by Varese Sarabande on February 9, 2019. 1987's The Hidden is a sci-fi action horror film directed by Jack Sholder, and starring Michael Nouri and Kyle MacLachlan. As the back of the VHS describes it the Hidden is about "A series of bizarre, inexplicable robberies and murders have L.A. police detective Tom Beck (Nouri) totally baffled. And it doesn't help when mysterious FBI agent Lloyd Gallagher (MacLachlan) tells him that a demonic extraterrestrial creature is invading the bodies of innocent victims -- and transforming them into inhuman killers with an unearthly fondness for heavy metal music, red Ferraris and unspeakable violence!" The film's a really great underseen gem, although several articles last year for its 30th anniversary helped raise its profile. It's a very early role for MacLachlan, and shows that directors were putting him into odd characters right from the start. The soundtrack, compiled by IRS Records, is one of several that the label put together around that time, and thus, this is the second film in a row that featured Concrete Blonde's "Over Your Shoulder" and "Haunted Head," as did the previous year's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. There was never an actual soundtrack release, although Michael Convertino's score was put out by Varese Sarabande, and the Truth's "It's Hidden" was released as a single by IRS.
